5182  Economy / Speculation / Re: Massive spike to $7 (then $15.9499) sunday 3PM BST at MtGox on: September 11, 2011, 07:53:23 PM
If you're not going to trade it in the next 24 hours, get your money out.

24 hours is more than enough to see the price reach that $2 some people is talking about. Now *that* is a serious buying opportunity in the short term.
5183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Realism on: September 11, 2011, 06:31:19 PM
I would prefer a subtle change, for example 2016 blocks with a maximum of 3 weeks.
5184  Economy / Speculation / Re: Massive spike to $7 sunday 3PM BST on: September 11, 2011, 03:22:36 PM
Yep, bitcoin monitor has the 43BTC @ 15

Where does bitcoin monitor get its data from?  If it's just a feed from mtgox then they're just using the same (apparently wrong) data.

You beat me to this.
5185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Massive spike to $7 sunday 3PM BST on: September 11, 2011, 02:48:25 PM
Volume doesn't agree with that spike, I think those $15.95 trades didn't happen.
5186  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Show your firstbits - get 2 bitcents on: September 11, 2011, 07:21:33 AM
Out of curiosity, do you have any idea the longest minimal firstbit today?

Assuming you don't need anything meaningful, I'd say it's at 1+4 or even 1+3 if you're lucky.

Even better, has anyone graphed the shortest/average/longest as a function of blocks (time) with predictions into the future?

Predicting it would be hard since it depends on the rate of transactions.
5187  Economy / Speculation / Re: Paul Krugman Effect on: September 09, 2011, 06:53:22 PM
take a look at this one, yikes!

There's a subtle difference tho: DJI shows a ≅10% fall—mtgox has fallen 50% since the netrin graph highs.
5188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New Solidcoin Client Fully Open-Source! on: September 08, 2011, 09:57:52 PM
Does your client download those huge blocks very slow too? Can it be cured somehow?

Oh, the *downloading* is as fast as everything else Grin. It's the processing what takes its time. It's worth to keep a backup of blk*.dat!

5191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin 1.04 Released [Hardened Edition] on: September 07, 2011, 11:06:09 AM
FWIW I reach block 29940 with version <1.03 (1.02?), albeit my ~/.solidcoin directory is 6.9 GiB in size. I'll try re-downloading the block chain from scratch with both "1.02" and 1.04.

Reached block 30800 in all cases, although 1.04 got stuck a couple of times (at blocks 6000 and 17600) and had to restart it. Going through ArtForz's transactions is CPU intensive (made my laptop shutdown a couple of times due to heat) but not a blocker.

Yo me comprometo a:

5193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: September 7th - 10pm GMT on: September 07, 2011, 09:22:27 AM
Announce will be in this topic? or where? Roll Eyes

He said "post a 24h countdown here" so I guess it will.
5194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: September 7th - 10pm GMT on: September 06, 2011, 07:45:45 PM
GUI's are for wimps, the faithful keep it command line. What new features have you got?

5195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Send to IP, why hasnt anyone taken advantage of this yet? on: September 06, 2011, 07:23:04 PM
You will need to do something like "paytome.coin" + "purpose" where the purpose will have to have the ability and in case of shops need to be unique, what will lead again to difficult, hard to remember combinations of letters/numbers.

I believe that IP payments transactions can have a comment attached to it.

Edit: huh, I killed solidcoind and now the directory is only 84 MiB.
5197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New Solidcoin Fork Fully Open-Source! on: September 05, 2011, 10:41:12 PM
Code:
~/soldcoin/src$ make -f ../build/makefile.unix solidcoind
g++ -c -O2 -Wno-invalid-offsetof -Wformat -g -D__WXDEBUG__ -DNOPCH -DUSE_SSL -DUSE_UPNP=0 -o ../obj/nogui/util.o util.cpp
Assembler messages:
Fatal error: can't create ../obj/nogui/util.o: No such file or directory
make: *** [../obj/nogui/util.o] Error 1

I'm probably late to this but I fixed and published this problem. Look into my last posts, it should appear within the last week or so.

5199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Profitability of mining solidcoin vs bitcoin on: September 01, 2011, 09:34:49 PM
i looked at one of the exchanges but it only accepts BTC for SC.

Pitiful comment...

It's not a bug, it's a feature!
5200  Economy / Speculation / Re: Holy CRAP the manipulator has pulled out!!!!! Freefall seems inevitable on: September 01, 2011, 09:28:02 AM
I want to change my screen name to "The Manipulator".  Roll Eyes

Whenever the market moves in a way that displeases bitcoin traders, they shout about The Manipulator.  He's everywhere, and controls every market move.  Clever fellow.

In fact, I am The Manipulator. Whenever I buy, price drops and vice versa. I'm sure there are tons of other Manipulators who move the market like this.
