I don't think MRO will catch us in market cap anytime soon, but I've been thinking... if not having ring signatures is the only way people can attack DRK other than the absurd "Instamine Scam!11!" crap trolling --  then maybe Evan should pull in ring signatures and put them in V1.  Of course, I have no idea how hard the coding would be, but the longer we let mindshare form that DRK's anonymity is second rate to MRO's the harder it will be to win people back once V2 is released.

Tell me I am crazy here...   Undecided

With all the trolling over the last few days it is funny to see that Mintpal has just recovered to about 0.013 and the updates/technological developments from Evan are moving along swimmingly.  There is no problem here in DRK land!!   Cool

I wrote to coindesk. they have made a half ass update to their article. no mention of a correction.

Quote
Pioneered by darkcoin, X11 has slowly gained traction in terms of new coin implementation. Darkcoin, along with Hirocoin and québecoin, are perhaps the most notable examples of X11 coins. Additionally, the algorithm has been integrated by some elements of the multipool community, with several pools offering X11 as a mining option.

http://www.coindesk.com/advanced-algorithms-maxcoin-dogecar/

Well that's the best you can hope for, right.  With the update, at least you call what they have now reasonably accurate.
524  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 17, 2014, 03:49:03 PM
This action should be expected, IMO, doesn't Zerocash (FINALLY) launch tomorrow? Or at least they are finally revealing how they are proceeding if I remember correctly.

I haven't looked too closely at what they are doing, but (maybe someone who has can post a reply) it seems a bit clunkier of a process than (what I think) is a bit more fluid and elegant solution in DRK.

But there does seem to be a true "competitor" looming and i'm really curious as to what they release. I don't think they've said anything about algo, distribution or even mining at this point.

Their white paper is supposed to come out tomorrow I believe.

As for the price it is normal. Let people take their profits... then come back and complain when it rises again.   Tongue

Try the list in this thread:

Absolutely exactamondo!

I PM'ed you Macno immediately after to save you from lining some potential cretin's pockets!!

Ah, cool, thank`s! So, has it been hacked or not? With what Nicname does she post now? TanteStefana2?

Maybe.  At best, the whole thing is unclear.  It is probably best to wait a bit and see what it posted by the accounts before sending any tips.
527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 17, 2014, 12:04:47 PM
PLEASE NOTE!!

It might be just my paranoia, but recently Tante thought her account might have been hacked...... shortly after someone offered to tip her / suggested putting her address up for tips. Coincidence? Hopefully, but please hold off for the time being till this gets resolved.

Hi,

it was me who suggested that. I suggested it here already, without response from Tante:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg6720257#msg6720257

I don`t quite get if by coincidence you mean that someone hacked her to post such an adress or if you think I hacked her adress.
Anyway, I`m open for inquiries of any kind, I just don`t know how to prove that I am not even able to hack my own account.
I just wanted to openly respond to that. I appreciate Honest Tim`s warning (@HT: I answered you PM).
I only want to make sure not to be suspected of hacking her account myself (I know some guys here on the forum personally who could testify that I have neither the criminal energy, nor the ethical mindset, nor the technical skills to do so, if someone whishes).

Cheerio

Macno

Edit: By the way...has her account been hacked or not? You write she only suggested that.

My reading of that post was: "upon seeing the fact that a prominent member of the community might receive tips someone may of hacked the account.  Be wary of sending coins to the tip address under her posts until more is known".  I don't think anything about the person who originally offered the tips was implied... but I may have misunderstood.

Ive read this person's activities here; i think yall should reconsider him(nzminer) from the troll list. from an outsiders point of view, he only brings up legitimate concerns. from my community's experience, giving these outrageous(maybe one day they won't be) price that it COULD be is an easy way to get burned later(its what we went through at BC) this is not a speculating coin, this is a USEFUL and valuable coin. let the coins utility speak the price for you. talk not of how much it will be towards the moon, but rather keep the good news coming, and innovations and developments streaming.

Does anybody really use those "expected" prices as investment advice tho?  I don't think nzminer is a troll, but that seems like an odd thing to take issue with.  Price "predictions" happen in every coin's thread.
i think he means for the good of EVERYONE invested, not to get newbies invested with false hopes;it helps keep the value from tanking so quickly if things do slip. not everyone can take risk well.like dominoes,it can fall out of control if people get misled;youd be surprised how many people in cryptoland use those price guides as an investment resource -_-.then if you tell them anything other than the one they liked to hear, then they just say its all FUD.

I think we will have to agree to disagree on the importance of all the price talk.

Maybe this is just my personal thing, but you should never invest more money that you can afford to lose into a volatile market like altcoins.  It would really really suck if DRK's value dropped to 0 tomorrow, but that I wouldn't mean that I would need line up for welfare checks.  My thinking is that it is really a question of responsibility and research that separates those who profit and those who don't and if price "predictions" mentioned in a public forum sway you enough to make a move then you don't have enough of either.

All that said tho, I get where you a nz are coming form...

JGCMiner is obviously a troll.

Also, +1 on listing this is the first post.  Newbies should know the names of the blatant FUD'ers.

Sorry if i come across as a troll, I do hold DRK.
What annoys me is reading here all the posts about it getting to $300 or even $1000 like some are saying, I think it has the potential to reach $100 possibly, but i have a realistic approach.
Im not trying to spread FUD, but i feel its wrong to give newbies false hopes and have people dig deep into their pockets into such a risky investment, which goes for all cryptos, and DRK is still dropping, which i was expecting, so what if it goes back to $2? It still has the potential to get up to $100 if it is indeed a solid coin.

I intend to invest in more DRK, as well as NXT, MEC and other coins, its wise to not keep all your eggs in one basket and anyone with their head screwed on should agree.
But im not going to panic buy DRK like what is happening at the moment.

And yes, the "instamine" is a concern to me and it would be appreciated if i can get an explanation why the windows QT wallet was not released on launch. Again i still think this coin is a strong contender in the market for the short to mid term and it will easily topple litecoin sometime this year, but people like me need solid faith in this coin. Its silly to invest in something just because its going up in value.

The Coindesk article really pissed me off.

post the article plz

http://www.coindesk.com/advanced-algorithms-maxcoin-dogecar/

So praising x11 without mention of evan who is pretty easy to contact instead getting information from a pool. Bad journalism and rather strange.

Really strange.  Even the name "x11" was an invention of Evan combining Xcoin (DRK original name) and the fact it has 11 algos.

Though, as somebody mentioned earlier, if the coin continues to grow, adds more anon features, and price continues to rise -- then other bigger and more reputable news outlets will feature DRK.  It is just a matter of time.

The Coindesk article really pissed me off.

Yeah... unfortunately nothing you can do about it. I suspect an agenda. They deleted a few of my comments criticizing the piece as well.

You guys are seriously such blind fanboys, im not a troll, i like what dark did. But im out cause of the shady things here.
And remeber, never get emotionally attached to a currency, it can destroy you lol

Good -- leave this community alone while we support a great coin and dev.  You can go lose money on the lastest P&D shitcoin.
534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 17, 2014, 09:44:58 AM
I dont see a reason why the whales should stay with darkcoin.

At first the abilitys of the coin aren't important.
Most people are just looking for a good return and just wanna go in for a short time.

So the whales could pick any other coin and pumpt it... enough people will follow.

Just my 2 satoshis

Disagree. If you were right Bitcoin would have dropped down to $1 by now. Utility matters and people hold coins that have a future.

Also, the whales thing is a myth. If 100btc worth of darkcoin appear on the exchanges it's not necessarily a whale - it's likely early DRK adopters day trading. I have more than 100btc worth of darkcoin. Am I a whale?

No, just one of the few people that instamined them Wink

Ha! Wrong! I have never mined. I don't know how. I bought in during Feb.

You lose then, the dev launched a broken coin with huge block rewards and then reduced the supply to become rich overnight, how convenient, but at the expense of fools buying now lol

If I instamined a ton of coins at launch then I would have already dumped at 0.015 or whatever. No sane person would risk the profit especially for coins that they got in abundance for basically nothing.

That HASN'T happened so one of the following is true:

1. The devs do indeed have a lot of coin.
 - I have absolutely no problem with this... Maybe I would if Eduffield had not made x11, DGW, Darksend, committed to improve on Darksend (ring signatures, ip obfuscation), pledged 2 years of his time to the coin, delivered on every promise to date, and been very engaging with the community. Why should he work for free while investors get rich? Really, give me one good reason why he should NOT be making money on DarkCoin you greedy son of a .... well you get the idea.

2. The initially mined coin has already been very well distributed.
- Pro Tip: This is very likely the case.  Cool

Seems the free "advice" in this thread is on a permanent rewind loop. How many days in a row will the same "advice" be given out only to have it be wrong before people realize that DRK is different?
536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 15, 2014, 10:49:16 AM
going by this graph, i think nows the time to sell and then reinvest when it crashes

dont tell them sssssst

Great post, thank you.

Yeah you're right, drk looks like it is about to come crashing down! Probably a good time to sell before everyone else does. Cheers
wanna get in ? Grin

nope i am still in the process of getting out actually Smiley

me too...i'm quite worried that darkcoin is going to look quite silly as an anonymity solution when monero hits the exchanges...Dark has had a good run, but yeah now would be a good time to unload

Its been rising too fast its too unsustainable, the dump is just around the corner.
And this is coming from someone that likes darkcoin.

Unsustainable based on what? This rise started nearly three weeks ago at the end of April. Most coins get dumped with a few days or a week after a pump... IMO, DRK has already shown to be resistant to the standard P&D tatics. It will drop some, but don't expect it to go back to 0.005 levels.

Sorry for not participating a lot these last 2 days, but I'm creating a FAQ for Darkcoin - which has escalated to something like 5000 words: http://wiki.darkcoin.eu/wiki/FAQ

I think I can take it to 100 Q&As and then perform a context organization per topic.

Send me questions, Q&As, corrections, suggestions, feedback etc. If you feel like it, you can also send some tips for encouragement Grin Thank you in advance.

Excellent job on the FAQ so far! I recommend everybody giving it a read.

tried to send 47 darkcoins and it says I need to pay a fee of 4.1 darkcoins (I tried to send ~70 but it said transaction too large). ?!
Saw something similar in 9.3.3.

Tried to send 141 coins to one of my other wallets and it said "transaction too large" and asked for a 0.009 fee. I paid it since it was reasonable and the transaction went through without issue, but I've sent larger amounts to myself or to exchanges in the past and have never seen that pop up.
any idea how to get it to send? I can't make a larger transfer, only 9.x drk works, 47 drk wanted 4.1 drk fee, 77 "too large"

For my case I just clicked ok to accept the fee since it was small. Maybe PM Evan to get to the bottom of the issue.
539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 14, 2014, 04:47:37 PM
Can someone explain to me why DRK is still rising when a wallet was just released for BTC that allows for anonymous transactions?

http://www.teambitcoin.com/blog/2014/5/8/darkwallet-here-to-make-bitcoin-anonymous-again

Doesn't this make DRK's "darksend" technology second rate?  I am a bit confused, can someone please explain to me or any potential investors?  Thanks

Darkwallet is still alpha... however more importantly they are using a centralized server. Now a Darkwallet dev came here to explain that all the data is encrypted client side (a la blockchain.info), but handling client side encryption, via a browser plugin, still has it risks.  Even if that is without problem, the biggest issue with Darkwallet is that a centralized server is much easier to shutdown compared to a decentralized currency like DRK. Even with the masternodes, since there will be a few thousand of them if some get shutdown or ddos'ed DarkSend will still function. Who knows what will happen to your bitcoins if the Darkwallet server gets attacked.

And if you have ever heard Amir Taaki (main DW dev) speak then you will know for that for how smart he seems to be - he also does a very good job of painting a target on his back.
