521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | scrypt | PoS | No premine on: March 01, 2014, 12:50:08 AM
Just a simple story id like to share...

It was almost 3 years ago and I had money tied up in the stock market from an inheritance. It was completely out of left field, I went from barely keeping up with my bills to having roughly 50K in stocks and mutual funds to manage. Being naive and in a position to leverage such a great amount of money (to me) I just HAD to cash some out...

I became a quasi 'Wolf of Wall Street' so to speak, and started looking at my different holdings. Out of all of them there was one sure fire "loser", it was Bank Of America. They were in the news for housing scandals, bad loans, shady business practices. Every major news outlet was reporting these stories on a daily basis. They say there is no such thing as bad press, but for shareholders, it was a very dark time. Shares of BOA began dropping at an unprecedented rate, everyday another few percent. Forgive me if the numbers are not listed with verbatim accuracy, but at the time I started to manage the shares they were $16 and change. Over several days they continued to drop and stabilized around 9-$10 per share, but a few days later they were down to $7 per share. The news was becoming more and grim and it seemed like we were approaching the end, but then.... A our savior arrived...

In the following days investor Warren Buffet and his brokerage firm Berkshire Hathaway ended up pumping more than 1 Billion into Bank of America. If you have never heard of Warren Buffet, then I suggest that you do your homework. He is a financial investment GOD. To all shareholders of BOA, myself included, this seemed like a godsend. But as the market adapted it wasn't long before shares started dropping again. Over the course of a month my 20K stake in BOA was reduced to less than $5000, I still remember listening to the market report on the radio in my car and saying "It's time to sell".... So I did....

I ended up with a check for $4600 and my stake in BOA was done... Good riddance! But Warren Buffet isn't in the market to lose money. A couple months later the shares came back, and have now hit several all time highs since the time I sold. Those same shares of BOA today are still worth 20K, making my effective loss from selling about 15K. I suppose the moral of this story is to look towards the future when it comes to investments of any kind. Blackcoin could be a total failure, and if you invest there is the possibility that you could LOSE EVERYTHING! However people said the same thing about Bank of America, Bitcoin, DOGE and even Apple. It goes without saying, but never invest more than your willing to lose, but most importantly... Enjoy the ride everyone!

The market being totally manipulated right now by someone who has a HUGE amount of BC. They have the market cornered and are buying up every last piece of BC they can get. This coin could be worth nothing tomorrow, but this mass buying spree is happening for a reason. If you have coins, HOLD THEM! If your looking to buy more, then you would be wise to do it sooner rather than later.

For me personally I feel the whole staking issue / how to stake instructions posted here are nothing but BS. If you want staking to WORK just run the latest version of the wallet,,, THAT'S IT! I never encrypted my wallet or unlocked it or did anything that was suggested in this thread, I was just patient and I received my first stake just a little while ago, its kinda neat! So if your worried about getting your stake, just remember that all good things come to those who wait.

It's all abt patience. I'm an early miner too. From the moment it got launched I was there. I had to wait till this afternoon for a first stake of 0,1... to arrive. The only thing is an open wallet. And if it's encrypted using the passphrase cmd line.
Easy as that.

Exactly! Cheers mate, my stake was 0.1 BC as well. Welcome to the mile high club  Grin

Guys how do we unlock the wallet?  Grin
Send me your wallet.dat and password, I will show you.

wow, you guys are so mean.  poor guy just wants to unlock his wallet so he can stake some black shitcoins!  Shocked Shocked Shocked

For the sake of the community and those interested in Blackcoin, I believe I speak for all of us when I say that your posts are doing absolutely nothing constructive nor are they contributing to the topic in any meaningful way. I think its great you made out trading BC, so did I, however if you plan on filling the thread with useless posts then kindly take your negativity elsewhere. Thanks

How does PoS work?

PoS can only be done by an unlocked wallet. In the client it is called 'Staked Mining'. As soon as you unlock your wallet (there is a difference between encrypted & locked) the stake miner will start. You will start to see coins being moved from your balance to your 'Stake' balance. Coins will not be lost. After a while you will start receiving transactions with your earned interest.

How to unlock:

Go to your Debug Window and then open the Console. Type in:
Code:
walletpassphrase -yourpassword- -secondstokeepwalletopen- true

An example would be:
Code:
walletpassphrase Ex4mpl3P4ssW0rd 3600 true

In this way you'll unlock your wallet for one hour.

How to lock:

Go to your Debug Window and then open the Console. Type in:
Code:
walletlock

Now your wallet is locked and you'll stop PoS mining.

Is my stake balance spendable?
 - Not sure yet, has to be confirmed by either dev or community

This is the information I have managed to gather so far, If you have any other questions, please leave them here so I can try to answer them!

So, if you have an unencrypted wallet (never encrypted), will it be mining or do you need to go through this process, encrypt, then unencrypt/unlock it?

This is the real question for me too. My wallet ISN'T encrypted and I have had NO passwords / pass-phrases entered into my Blackcoin wallet since installation, im running 1.01.

The stake mining portion sounds awesome, but at the same time I don't want to start using a feature that isn't fully implemented / tested and put my coins at risk. Is there ANYONE who can clarify this?

Than just use p2pool - p2pool can't be down and it's always paying - p2pool is DDOS resistant as it's distributed through nodes:)

Just choose the best node, with the lowest ping to your location ! We're currently at 900MHs total hashpower ! Smiley Remember that p2pool is best suited for bigger miners (bigger than one or two radeons).
Don't get pushed away if you won't get your payout with the first block - p2pool needs to get momentum Smiley

Mined on Liberty for almost 2 hours at 300+ kh/s and NOTHING!  Waste of time I guess.

At 300 k/hs with the current difficulty your machine isn't powerful enough to produce much from a pool, let alone mining on P2Pools. Add some more graphics cards!!! Smiley

Forget the whales/multipools who have millions+, what is considered a decent size stake of BC? What do some of you first day miners have ?

first hour miner Grin i have about 52k now on my measly rig. Sad

Nice! Lets see those specs!!!

Lol, Why did i just sell at 2500?  This coin is 1% interested annually.  It only took me 3 days to make 1 BTC at 5mh/s? Guys.  Please I feel guilty now.

Please elaborate. No offense, but your post sounds like bullshit.

While the new logo's are cool, I still like the original "cyber 80's" style the best.

Im glad im not alone on this. The current logos look embodies so many positive charastics as is, i'd hate to see them change it.

Difficulty just spiked all the way to 150 (currently 130). I thought I was going to be able mine 100,000 EASY GUARANTEED when I started right at release. So far I've mined 63,000 and if my daily earnings have dropped to ~13,000 so I might not make it.  Undecided

WOW! I was hoping for 10K with a single R9 290, but with this difficulty im not so sure. What are you using to mine if you dont 'mine' me asking?

Ive been mining at Greek Pool since this morning. I have 655 coins there that are still showing unconfirmed. I moved over to Dedicated Pool and it was showing my first confirmed coins available in a little over an hour. What gives?! Anyone else still having issues with Greek Pool?
539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | Launched | scrypt | PoS | No premine on: February 24, 2014, 07:50:24 PM
on my 290x because of the way it behaves (needs less intensity mine is at 13) I only get about 600kh/s and mining this coin is pretty tough. The high buy orders like 400k for 1btc is laughable

Strange, its not behaving differently then any other coins for me. Using a pool now and was on P2P earlier, getting 800 k/hs on both with a R9 290 (Not X). Using cgminer 3.7.3 with the following config...

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
cgminer --thread-concurrency 27622 --intensity 17 --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://onceyougoblack:3333 -u wow -p wow
