It seems like someone (no strings attached) is trying too goddamn hard to crush it. Also there was a market manipulation attempt that flash crashed the price which rippled across the market. Leave the OP more red trust to speedup this exponential blowup.

Well said

Fair enough you can add far more to a Turing complete system like user I/o to make it useful. But I think it does behave more like a Turing machine than most computers because presumably in verifying the blockchain you run it in order.
523  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: November 23, 2015, 10:59:39 PM

For first Bitcoin miners it took 4 years,to get paid for their work Wink

There was no competition to bitcoin and once it was picked up by media it rocketed up. It's not the situation anymore with a bazillion cryptos begging for attention. It's likely most of these coins and developers will never get paid.

Once people realize that the value in technology lies in its network effect, then Bitcoin will win. In the meantime, people will underrate it, laugh at it, deny it, avoid it, ignore it.

Don't be naive! Botnet can be built from the coin daemon.

The only thing that there is no botnet yet, that your coin doesnt have value.
It will remain so until, the dev (or someone else) doesnt pump the coin.

Better have botnets than large ASIC facilities. Here you could turn on mining at any time to prevent 51% or decentralise the network. In bitcoin you actually could do nothing. But yeah, CPU mining is a real concern here.

Any progress on this front?
526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FACT] Anon coins will never work ! on: November 23, 2015, 10:41:50 PM
How is it related to silk road being shut down? Feds tracked it down because of altoids simple mistake with a single post on shroomery. There does not appear to be anything to suggest in the indictment that they had made any real progress attributing sr ownership before that point.
527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So I just read on BBC NEWS... on: November 23, 2015, 10:32:02 PM
Sounds like a weird app.   I'll make a dog collar for my dog and let his run the fields nearby.

This broke my heart. My dog heard the howl, jumped on my bed, and cuddled me. We finished watching together.
528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SOIL - fair launch, environmentally conscious, community driven on: November 23, 2015, 10:26:56 PM
knip

also, our android wallet is finished and working perfectly!

it will be available on the google play store as soon as we get the $25USD publisher fee paid out to google. im just waiting for my military pension cheque to come in before i can pay for that, but if anyone in the community wants to contribute towards that, i'd be eternally grateful. you could donate some SOIL towards the cost at:
0xe46731382fbc47621a6c480d4b6118026bbbcb3a
that is my publicly available developers reserve wallet address, and any contributor towards that could see and be comforted that we are using the funds for exactly the purpose we are stating. we are, as always, dedicated to utmost transparency regarding the SOILcoin project.

you could also donate any portion of BTC to my wallet at:
1H3xcVEZqPpAH4m8ULr6eh6aF3kpywc9Rw
we will need approximately 0.09BTC to make up the $25USD needed

or you could send any small amount of fiat via interac transfer to abvhiael@live.ca as the payment must be made through a bricks and mortar bank or credit card. google doesnt accept BTC, the silly buggers.

just send me a personal message here at bitcointalk letting me know how much you have contributed. ill acknowledge any contributor here, and will bake you a batch of hero cookies. (chuckles)

knip

we discussed using some of the funds from the community reserve for this purpose, selling it against the buy wall at bittrex, but both peter and myself felt this was the sort of thing that would require community input for such a withdrawl, and would be looking at approximately 8000 SOIL to achieve the $25USD needed to pay the publishers fee at google to be listed on the google play store. in any case, should we need to wait until my pension comes in, the android wallet should be up and available by end of next week.

I have a challange in mind for the first smart contract of SOIL:
I posted this:

Thx for this work! I tested coldwallet.soilcoin.xyz

Question: Is it posible to read wallet address and import the privkey from QR-codes of the SOIL coltwallet?
If not then better add that function first before publish the endroid wallet.
Maybe I donate 50% of BTC then.

The QR-code implementation will be added and I posted that I want to contribute 50%.

I read about spending "community reserve" for this $25 fee what is about 8000 SOIL.

What if I pay the 0.09BTC and get 4000 SOIL in return?
You can program that into a SOIL smart contract with me.
You can add some extra rules like time and exchange rate.
If the exchange rate of 0.045 BTC for 4000 SOIL is in 3 weeks is not reached I get 4000 SOIL.
If rate is more than 0.045 BTC value of SOIL I get value of 0.045 BTC SOIL.

Is this a nice deal?

It would be great to couple this with a rent contract system, something ethereum maybe capable of. All I can say is if you are gong to do genetic engineering I agree that it would be best to do it open source and non-profit.
529  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Fantom | CPU Mineable | DarkSend | Masternode | Tor+I2P | sMP Releasing Sn on: November 22, 2015, 03:36:17 PM

Mostly*, but I can't wait forever, so whenever a good stable major commit takes place in the first week on a month, I imidiately download, rebrand, push changes to my *normal* repo and let people use that as the current version.

So, first week of December, one way or the other, the new version is gonna come

* - I will MERGE their changes, I can't just reinject my changes on every commit, that would be exhausting

Speaking of which, I might try to create another altcoin and that is for those WHO GOT SCAMMED, just like BARR but not an NXT Asset. Do you think it's a good idea I shuttle between two coins, and by all means - your PERSONAL opinion

I think you should focus on developing this coin. You are doing great work and I cannot wait until the new wallet comes out. Stay focused on Fantom. It is still just the beginning! Put more work into this coin and expand the community further. Maybe some Proof of Mining like Magi does? Or some other sort of marketing campaign like a sig campaign maybe?

Most alts are just someone trying to establish a viable cryptocurrency. Whether it takes off is another thing. You just have to watch, participate, and play the waiting game. On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for this coin drops to zero.
530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: November 21, 2015, 04:56:16 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLWhU3f0xlc&feature=youtu.be&t=27m14s

i have this idea for long time with monero. its not so important now, but no one can really predict how monero will perform under load. so better we find out.
does anybody know how they do it in bitcoin? do they even have this kind of setup?

would love to help build this up synthetically, maybe so that it can be repeatet without burning too much money all the time. sure we would need help from devs for this, a special fork with premine that we flush again would maybe be best? or are there other ways to do it?

how many nodes? how strong would they need to be with what kind of connection? what about the spammers, how much

all bullshit? good idea? please tell

btw check the very nice question in this video too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLWhU3f0xlc&feature=youtu.be&t=30m51s

the answer is simply: MONERO Cheesy (but no mention at all)

someone should send him an email

Judging by all of these agencies jumping on board so briskly, this has been cooking for quite some time now... We should be looking at past moves made by any of the agencies, especially devs and btc companies!
531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KARM] Karma / ₭ / X11 on: November 21, 2015, 04:51:16 PM
Karmacoin very close to be declared dead....... Undecided

lol ... i think very much alive ... but truly decentralized ... there is no dev/leaders ... but the network and infrastructure is still fairly decent ... magic could still happen with this one.

Agreed..

i think with some decent direction - it will become a good stable coin ...

this means that further development and ownership of the coin ( yes - that means a takeover or a team ownership ) should take place - so that a solid path can be forged and followed through with - a developmental program / path - and a solid backend ( nodes - faucet - block explorer - etc ) can be established ...

so leadership is crucial for the coin to move forward in a positive direction ... this is what not only keeps the coin stable ( including the community support ) - but also so that funds can be accrued and spent on doing the positive things that will move the coin forward ...

there are issues with karma at the moment that need attention and can be fixed with a few solid decisions that need to be made ... none of this can happen without leadership and someone ( or team ) to step up and take the code under their wings and not only fix the code - but also stabalize the network and bring it back to the place karma was when mining was a beneficial and trading was pretty good Smiley ...

until then - its a coin thats floating in crypto space - that has a good community behind it - but no direction ...

#crysx

I agree with that. The value of most altcoins is pegged to Bitcoin over time, with higher risk of them disappearing or being abandoned. Many fall victim to pump and dump schemes or short term run-ups because of popularity (if that is not the same), but are surely nothing you would like to invest in (speaking of holding long term).
532  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ] GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays - Live on Android and iOS on: November 20, 2015, 09:59:57 PM
Fragout, Nextgencoin, and 1,2 others are trying to push an agenda here. I encourage not to fall for this. These guys have probabaly sold and are trying to push the price down.

No holder in his right mind goes in public trying to make a bad name out of the project he currently is invested in.

The more the price goes down the more these guys get active in pushing their circus act, until they have bought.

Nextgencoin was pushing Vanillacoin as the next big thing in this forum, he just like now being so sure in his critics was very sure about Vanillacoin going to be huge. His prediction failed so hard and Vanillacoin is pretty much dead now. I encourage GetGems supporters not to fall for these fud attempts, these guys love to see the price go down atm.

mrvegad decided to shit on everyone and deleted the whole general discussion with around 70 members in the getgems app and kicked out everyone, probabaly after also selling where Daniel had to make a new one inviting people again.

If you are still holding and no single positive thing comes out of your mouth about the project you are invested in you must be very stupid, i believe these guys sold already and can only gain from this shitstorm.

Think about it, would you type essays of criticism and negativity about a project you are currently invested? These guys or just want to bring the price down or just sold and want to see GG fail. Excuses like its from principle reason are all bs.

I'm amazed at the semantic wranglings you have to go through in order to justify attacking one worthless crap that you see as a competitor while sparing another that you see as helping your investment.

Perhaps some day, you'll find that life is a lot more fun if you lead a principled existence, where you don't bend every rule to pump up your own petty investments. Until then, good luck.
533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: November 20, 2015, 09:53:03 PM
I'm having trouble editing some of my pages on the Devtome. I'm told I don't have permission. However, I can edit some of the pages. I can also access the admin side.

I was able to add some content to the Devtome and create a new page, but I can't add it to my invoice page.

It looks like others have had this problem too, so I just wanted to chime in and say so am I and ask if there are any updates on this.

Thanks Smiley

This is the exact text of the error message I'm getting:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /doku.php on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Devtome management seemed to be looking for this, since they obviously knew about tons of issues. Really, if they were indifferent they wouldn't have burnt every last interest I had invested in site. And the truth is, I would call for no more of justice, should I only be restored of my writer account.
534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the hottest alt coin right now? on: November 20, 2015, 09:50:30 PM
If you want to be scammed you can trade any shitcoins they don't have to be hot or cold.

I'm tooting my own horn, but my family business started smoked a lot of crypto bacon OTC and this year. 2014 has been a good year for crossing the chasm. 2015 will most likely be well into mainstream territory.
535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MrPUMP - your guide to what whales are doing on: November 20, 2015, 09:46:44 PM
Considering that the largest asset markets in the world are heavily manipulated every day (U.S. equities, commodities, basically everything), it isn't a conspiracy to observe inexplicable patterns in a thinly traded virtual currency market and suppose there is someone somewhere pulling the strings.
536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Multicurrencies | Test Net Live | Unmoderated on: November 20, 2015, 10:44:34 AM
Hm. Won't this then open up another another large privacy-leaking surface on the blockchain? In which case, I wonder if it might have just abstracted the privacy problem to another level instead of fixing it. Whitepaper for this?

PHOTOMEAD PRESENTATION:  en, ru.

The project is urgently need enterprising persons:
marketing and SEO experts

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhahahahaha wrong thread for that my friend.

perhaps. but who knows?
creative experts inhabit in the most unexpected places usually  Smiley

You've to hire an agency or a newbie with 13 posts to market this project. That will add more robust experience. Working with different clients who have different styles and ways of doing things will give you broader experience. Plus, you get to learn about different roles from the people around you.
538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which is the best altcoin exchange POLL on: November 19, 2015, 08:16:17 PM
For sure BTC38 being the worst platform I've ever used. However this does not matter, because I’m afraid any massive bitcoin bull run is likely going to send the whole altcoin world to its doom eventually.
539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: !WARNING - Doesn't Look Good for Litecoin - Sub $2.50 within a week - WARNING! on: November 19, 2015, 08:09:49 PM
LOL!

Delusional PEOPLE. So DELUSIONAL. UN B LIE VABILE !
UN --> United Nations --> LIES & ILLUMINATI
B --> BEES
LIE --> LIE ... SAYS IT ALL!

All in the word... UNBELIEVABILE !

Sell people, Litecoin is going DOWN. I have warned you! Do not say ''that guy bitcoinlitcoinbtcltc KNEW it was going down but he didn't warn us because he is SUCH A TROLL.''

NO. SELL. And buy back LATER. When it is CHEAPER. So you can HAVE MORE.

Conspiracy theorist/troll

This is too sarcastic for me. This could be a form of disinfo put out by the system hoping you guys might link onto it. The idea would be to discredit you and make you look silly when talking about ANY conspiracy be they credible or not. They don't want the masses looking at the real conspiracies like Sandy Hoax for example.
540  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: November 19, 2015, 08:05:23 PM
People should archive this forums... these are the digital books of the new ERA... =) One day it all going to be history... some will like to read, some others not. But the nice thing about it is that people forget how much intellectual property is shared on these forums! It's basically a database of information indexed in a very strange way only humans can dare to understand... still, sometimes not even those!

I do not care for the fact who's a crap guy or not... or who robed who or made false announces or the other way around... if you all got interested about the genesis of bitcoin... then all of you knew in what "trouble" you were going to... this is research... not business! The passion about cryptocurrency is not money/profit... it's rather technology and the ability to create new tools that revolutionize the way we exchange value and information. Money was a simple way of attracting people and just another way of proving that money moves mountains... even people that did not knew a thing about coding did learn a bit just because of crypto. So at the end it proved to be a success reason to call people into a cause. But not because it was ever the real cause. If you risked your life on bitcoin you risked your life in research... it's not a betting game (sorry). It's others motivation and dedication your are believing in. Get real with yourself...

Good things should be remembered... bad things should be given second chances... be positive and you will find technology and learning much more fun.

Barwizi... one thing, you have balls! And what a story you created. Good luck. Have Fun! =)

A technique this guy uses is to be mindful of the moment between when I have an urge to post and then actually post that. That is the place you have a choice. There is a moment of choice before you do something you regret, and the negative feeling will pass. Never look back, you won't like what's behind you.
