5241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm fucking out. bitcoin will be over soon..confirmed. on: February 26, 2015, 06:35:56 PM
Pretty interesting how worthless threads like this get many pages and responses that just compound upon each other.
If the OP is "fucking out", then why post and announce it to the forum? Just sell and disappear.
This is a thread trap.

Maybe some kind of strategy to lure out the weak hands and make some profit. Dunno but that's what I first perceived in this thread.

Or maybe OP is not actually anti-bitcoin, maybe that's just sarcasm and his sense of humour?

Maybe that's why he has linked to satirical bitcoin obituary site and "You can't kill the Bitcoin" video?

Just maybe...

There's no harm in such promotion. It would be good to see some counter-balance to all the negativity.

Btw, there's already a thread about this:

I am new to bitcoin so please excuse me if this is simple.

I purchase $6.40 worth of bitcoin from bitbargain.co.uk last week. After the purchase was transacted, I transferred it to my MultiBit wallet. It showed up in my wallet and I closed the wallet. Today, the wallet shows $0.00?

I just bought £81.00 worth of bitcoin from bitbargain.co.uk and now I am being asked to direct it to my wallet, but I don't know my MultiBit wallet address. I have logged into my MultiBit wallet but there's nothing telling me what the address is or where my $6.40 worth of bitcoin has gone?

Please help.
Create new wallet in multibit, copy address from receive tab and send to it from bitbargain or whatever site u are using. Then wait for your coins in your wallet. Simple as that.
Make sure your computer is clean from malware and viruses.

And make sure you've downloaded Multibit from reliable source. There's plenty of fake links to wallet-stealing softwares pretending to be Multibit.

Official website is multibit.org (not .com or anything else).

I have tried this. See the image showing that I am logged in and the balance is $0.00, plus see that I have clicked "Request" but still don't have a receiver address. Multi-bit is terrible software, it's lost my money and is overly complicated to use. I am now using https://www.coinbase.com and it works much better. But, I still want my money from Multi-bit wallet, even though it's not much, it's the principle.

This image isn't showing any wallets, there's nothing on the left panel...

Have you deleted it?
5245  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.8 Required Update on: February 25, 2015, 09:37:09 PM
Hello Dogecoin Community,

we worked over 4 weeks on a new dice website for Dogecoin.
You can play and invest and earn some dogecoin. Hope you like the website.

Completely new, untrusted dice site with 2% house edge? Good luck with that...

does the player "jason02703" have a btct talk account or can drop by at the site and pm user "rexxludi"?

he hit the 4millionth (https://safedice.com/bets/4000000) bet and thus the 0.01btc prize for it.

but I don't want to tip an abandoned account  Wink

No idea.

There was prizes for reaching a bet? wow.
How will I get to know about it next time? Where was it announced?

yeah, sorry, it has not been announced officially yet, but since the 3millionth bet there is a prize for hitting the x millionth bet on site of 0.01btc.

I only announced it at the trollbox so far.

only rule = no 0 bets allowed. if the x millionth bet is a 0 bet than the next non 0 bet will get the prize.

it is planned to make the site automatically tip the player the prize after he hit it, but that's not on top of the to-do list right now, so I'll tip by hand for the time being.

Brill idea! Everyone have the equal chance of winning and it encourages to check the site regularly.
You should definitely announce it/make everyone aware of that.
5247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gaming and bitcoin will bring mass adoption on: February 25, 2015, 11:38:11 AM
Several crypto gaming sites now accept more bets (by value) in Darkcoin than in BTC due to the very fast confirmation time.  Directbet for one.

If that's true, that's more likely to fact that there are plenty of bitcoin gambling sites and only few that accept darkcoin, not because of confirmation time.
5248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gaming and bitcoin will bring mass adoption on: February 25, 2015, 10:50:47 AM
I dont really see this being a big addition.

Why would game companies go out of their way to implement a BTC system when they have a CC and Paypal system in place.

Seems like alot of work for a currency that you have to jump through hoops to buy.

I think the next big step for BTC is making it more ease of use to get BTC and manage your BTC.

IT would be cool to see BTC integrated into more outlets but I dont see Activision spending the money to implement it when they have a fiat system in place.

If they accept BTC now they have to cash it out ect, when they could just accept cash in the first place.

Implementing BTC is not hard or costly, they could just use BitPay/Coinbase.
Therefore there's nothing to lose by accepting bitcoins along with CC/paypal.

Wait, what? Have they paid ransom with tax payers money?

The department felt it had no option but to pay up. Records show the department paid $606 in a money order, which included bank fees and surcharges, to a New York Bitcoin cafe.

I ain't no lawyer, but pretty sure that's not quite legal what they did.

Depends, if they see BTC as a Commodity not money they basically gave the hacker a pizza as reward.

Not money.

Irrelevant. Most governments (and their institutions) have "no ransom" policy, for obvious reasons. It doesn't matter whether it's money, gold, bitcoin or pizza.

Why would this not be legal? There is nothing in the law that says governments are not able to pay bounties for services.

The reason why they paid the bounty was because doing so was going to be cheaper then possibly being able to recover the encrypted data

It's not a "bounty" it's "ransom". There's a huge difference between those two.

They effectively paid the criminal to reward him for his criminal activity using tax payers money.
5251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin makeover. Reputation re-build by ad agency on: February 24, 2015, 09:59:18 PM
Just came across this article on WSJ (the blog):

BitBeat: For Bitcoin, Some Good Press, Finally
Quote
Bitcoin, the six-year-old fledgling cryptocurrency with an image problem, will be getting a makeover.  Unless you’re familiar with social-media stars like Julia Kelly, Jorden Keith, and Acacia Brinley, though, it’s going to be an ad campaign unlike any you’re used to.

A consortium of bitcoin insiders, including the Bitcoin Foundation, BitFury, BitGo and Tally Capital, hired avante garde ad agency TheAudience to rebuild the currency’s reputation among the general public. The goal is pretty standard: highlight bitcoin’s positive aspects – its potential to help the “unbanked,” for instance – and get people to forget about Mt. Gox and Silk Road.

“We need to highlight the opportunity of bitcoin, we need to educate people on what it is,” said Oliver Luckett, the firm’s CEO, sounding as passionate about it as any bitcoin evangelist. What’s different is how the firm will go about achieving that goal.

Sounds strange that pro ad-agency will be working on image of open-source, decentralised project. But hell, why not? Can't wait to see the outcome.

Thoughts?

Agree, gaming industry is the right direction.

I'd love to see some MMORPG not only accepting BTC but making it in-game currency. When implemented correctly, it would make payments much more smooth. Although there could be some legal implication (KYC/AML requirements) as such game could be used as an fiat/BTC exchange.

And I'd be very surprised if there will be no Bitcoin reference in GTA VI. Since most of people, who ever heard of Bitcoin, think it's a currency only for drug dealers and other criminals, therefore RockStar have to include it somehow/somewhere. Otherwise they'll look like they're out-of-date with the newest trends in criminal underworld  Wink

$3500 in bitcoin, consider this already invested. Just let it sit there and see what happens.
At what price did buy? thats a nice stack if you bought at 200.

LOL It's a scam account, 1 post 1 activity dude!  It's not for real.

He wouldn't have kept just 15 BTC if he had bought in 2009, they were worth pennies literally.  He'd have a larger stash than 15 BTC easily, because even liquidating the majority of hoard, he'd buy back in with his profit and still be in the hundreds of BTCs if not thousands easily.

Just do the math everyone.  If he had bought in 2009, say at $0.10 a Bitcoin, say with $100 worth of fiat, he'd have 1000 BTC.  So say he sold at the high at roughly $1200, say 75% of his stash.  He'd have sold off nearly a $1mill worth of Bitcoin, still leaving him with 250 BTC worth $60k as of right now.

Just don't fall for it noobs...

Yup, OP is just a troll. I wasn't around in 2009 but according to blockchain's all time price chart, in 2009 BTC was worth zero. If you got it then, it would likely be through giveaway.

I'm one of the few that actually bought bitcoins on 2009 and made a 1000% profit.

and 1000% from zero is...
5256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What company should take btc? on: February 24, 2015, 07:52:38 PM
Obviously Amazon! If they accept Bitcoin, it would give it the biggest validation it could possibly get. I mean that company is the world's(!!!) biggest retailer. It's not a shady company and people may re-consider their position if they previously though Bitcoin was only used for illicit purposes!

I agree Amazon should accept Bitcoin, but to piggyback off your comment, I'd propose an even bigger company.....

Alibaba accepting Bitcoin would cause a tear in the time space continuum...c'mon Jack Ma you can do it!

That would be huge.

Not likely to happen though, not until China softens their stance on Bitcoin.
5257  Other / Politics & Society / Re: British mum, 59, "I'll give birth to baby of my dead daughter" on: February 23, 2015, 10:38:08 PM

They can use a surrogate for delivery the baby.
You made it sound like is as easy as using a taxi services. But the reality is not always in line with hollywood reality (gay couple use surrogate and all live happily ever after etc). You know there's very strong emotional bond between the child and women who carries it under her heart for 9 months and gives birth?
You know that 'surrogate' can eventually perceive the baby as her own and can simply refuse to give it away? What about breast feeding?

And, as Chief Ramsey mentioned, it doesn't solve the age problem.
Quote
It is a valid point, because said child is not a child because it does not exist
I see your point here, but that's a bit of moral short-cut and escaping from discussion. That's not really an answer to "should or shouldn't".
And the question still stands:
Quote
if such child is born anyway, would you be able to point a finger at it and say "it should've never been born"?

Quote
plus there are more than enough people on the planet, adoption of an already existing young human being would be the correct thing to do, it is very selfish and primitive thing to do if one's motivation is to pass their own genes.

Primitive =/= wrong

It's as primitive as eating, drinking, copulating or providing for your family.

Would you go as far as to say that every couple who decide to have their own children is "selfish" and everyone should adopt instead (until there are no orphans left)?
5258  Other / Politics & Society / Re: British mum, 59, "I'll give birth to baby of my dead daughter" on: February 23, 2015, 09:46:01 PM
Stating the obvious is obvious but damn, this woman is gonna be in her late 70s before this kid grows up and gets out of high school - and that's assuming everything goes as planned. I have to believe the kid is going to be teased when his peers either find out about the dynamics here (grandmother had her daughter's kid  Huh) or that his so-called parents are already in their 70s when everyone else's parents are in their 30s or 40s max. Even if you go the surrogate route, most of my sentiments still apply unless the surrogate plays the roll of mother for real and not pretending that the grandparents are the parents. It'a best if this couple just retires and starts a foundation in memory of their daughter or something.

Oh how I love those ethical/philosophical debates! Just for a sake of discussion:

Is it better if such child is never born, because it won't be teased by other kids and won't be raised by elderly grandparents? Isn't living in tough conditions better than not living at all?

If you don't exist you don't exist, one is not sorrow for not existing...

The couple in question is probably in sorrow knowing that they'll die alone without passing their genes on to the next generation.

But my point was, is it a valid argument to say that certain child should not be born because it may have (very) difficult life. Consequently, if such child is born anyway, would you be able to point a finger at it and say "it should've never been born"?

Just a moral dilemma for Tuesday evening...

That's the problem, it's very hard to estimate number of bitcoin users. This figure could give some indication, but not necessarily. But you definitely cannot call it 'number of users'.

Although I didn't expect it to be at 3 mils, I'd be guessing ~1 mil tops.
