5281  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Short term investment suggestion on: April 11, 2022, 01:38:14 PM
Guys, any suggestions for short-term investment?

Is that something that gains in value at 500% overnight or can this short-term period be a month or a little more? If you want such quick earnings, I suggest you throw yourself into altcoins hunting, some have successful pumps and over 600% in 24 hours.

By the way, what you advertise in your profile is not good enough for you?

5282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Madeira and Prospera "adopting bitcoin" on: April 11, 2022, 10:53:03 AM
Maderia and prospera fall under outermost regions of European community.

Madeira is indeed part of the EU (Portugal), but Prospera is located in Central America on the island of Roatán off the coast of Honduras. The difference is not only in the geographical position, but also in the fact that Madeira is an island, and Prospera only one town on the island.

These regions are embracing bitcoin to stimulate their own economy, by offering a crypto friendly place to highly skilled crypto experts. This will lead to immigration of highly skilled and high earning techies to maderia, this will help to increase GDP, diversify work opportunities and developments in these regions.

Maybe that’s really their goal, but this isn’t the first time some islands or small countries have tried to create a crypto paradise, let’s just remember Malta or Gibraltar and their attempts. Their problem, as well as the problem of the island of Madeira, is that they are too small to make some major changes that would attract people to move in and start a business. In addition, the EU has a not very friendly attitude towards cryptocurrencies, as they have been showing lately.

Can anyone recommend me a safe place to store my bitcoins?

I found something perfect for you, but only if you have no problem handing over your BTC to someone else for safekeeping. I am more for the "my keys, my coins" approach, which is the only correct way - if a nuclear war breaks out, it doesn’t matter where the BTCs are, in the underground bunker, or in the hardware wallet.

5284  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Any vulnerabilities in changing OLED screen of Ledger Nano S? on: April 11, 2022, 10:13:55 AM
Does that mean I need to hard reset the hardware wallet before I surrender the Ledger to them? Or they will just send a new unit without them receiving the faulty product?

Of course, the only correct way is to reset the device to factory defaults in case you send it for repair. I found the case I mentioned in the previous post, and the user had a broken device replaced with a new one even before he sent the old one to Ledger. Still keep in mind that it was in 2019, but I still think it's worth trying to get a replacement rather than changing the screen - try to report a problem with pictures or even video, you have nothing to lose but some time.

5285  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best desktop wallet on: April 10, 2022, 02:44:21 PM
When it comes to the desktop multi-currency wallets, most users opt for Coinomi or Exodus, so I would recommend you to try both and see which one suits your needs better. What many will cite as the downside of these wallets is that they are not open source, but considering that they are free wallets, this is a risk you have to accept.

If you want a higher level of security, you need a hardware wallet - Trezor supports what you need and it is open source.
5286  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BITCOIN ATM IN VILNIUS (LITHUANIA) on: April 10, 2022, 02:16:13 PM
I want to buy few bitcoins totally anonymously. Just for experiment Smiley

If you would use crypto ATM you have to keep in mind that this is usually the most expensive way to buy Bitcoin, as the fees are mostly 5%, but often more than twice as high. Also, not all crypto ATMs are anonymous, some only require a mobile phone number, while others require scanning a document or even video verification.

I will search for another way...

You can try to find an honest trader in the Currency exchange board, although I suspect that there is someone who would be willing to sell you a few BTC. For such an amount, I would be extremely careful, because it is quite a lot of money.
5287  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Any vulnerabilities in changing OLED screen of Ledger Nano S? on: April 10, 2022, 01:47:52 PM
If the device is about 1.5 years old then it is still under warranty, and accordingly, you could ask for a replacement. I know someone on the forum had a problem with the screen and that that device was replaced for free.

All Ledger devices (Ledger Nano S and Nano X devices) and Cryptosteel Capsules are covered by a 2-year warranty.
If you're experiencing issues with your product, please reach out to our support team for help.
In case your product might need to be replaced, please prepare a copy of the product invoice in advance.

As for replacing the screen, if you are skilled enough to do so, I do not see what the vulnerability of such a procedure would be, or I do not know if such a screen can be modified in any way to be malicious. I know there are malicious USB cables to watch out for, and I guess everything is subject to some malicious modification.
5288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! on: April 10, 2022, 01:26:27 PM
I will strongly suggest the government of El 🇸🇻 Salvador should push through with the development since the Bitcoin bond is an integral part of the building of the Bitcoin city, President Nayib Bukele should as a matter of national economic interests act right, and not waste any more time.

I have already written that El Salvador and their president refused to condemn Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and thus certainly lost the support of some investors - and it is possible that some were connected with Russia. Besides, do you know why Bukele abruptly canceled his Miami conference? This was certainly not because roses were blooming in El Salvador, or honey and milk were flowing in the streets - on the contrary, something else was flowing.

Bukele was scheduled to speak at the Bitcoin 2022 conference on Thursday afternoon. His government declared a state of emergency on March 27 after a wave of gang-related killings.
He said this week authorities have since arrested nearly 7,000 alleged gang members and said if the bloodshed continues, prisoners won’t get a single meal.
5289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to leave btc on: April 10, 2022, 01:14:07 PM
No movement of btc so its time to leave and come back after 2 years.
Its just not moving where is the daily 20-30% price swings? Of alt coins also? ,barerly 5% price moves in few days for that long you cant earn nothing with futures.
I leave btc im disapointed it just dont move i need btc to move no short no long just standing all market thats not why we here for.
Lets see in few years if btc is fixed and it moves again now nothing to do here for this year maybe one month there is movement but thats not enough we need to earn money everyday but if btc dont move then nothing to do.

So i come back after few years then lets see if they have fixed btc.

Has Bitcoin become boring to you again? All this time you spent on the forum using various alt profiles did not have any positive effects on you, in other words you did not move a millimeter in the direction of understanding at least some basics. Smart people profit every day no matter the price Bitcoin has, but for things like that you have to be intelligent.

Btc is boring
5290  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm new here, Is it a scam or what? They ask me to invest $100 and after 24 hou on: April 10, 2022, 11:14:21 AM
Facts, Many of my newbie friends know the risk on investing on rhis kind of scam scheme but they still choose to try it because they are tempted on the huge return for a short period of time. There still some ponzi scheme that paying early investors then just scam later which leads to some user keep on risking hoping that they will be paid as an early investor and neglecting the risk involved.

Then we have to say that some of them deserve to be scammed if they invest in something that is very likely to result in financial loss. It reminds me somewhat of gambling or playing the lottery because even though we know our chances are minimal, we will still give our money out of some hope of winning, while some others do it out of addiction.

At the end of the day, everyone should be responsible for their own behavior, and even that old saying goes "as you sow, so shall you reap".
5291  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation hitting a 25yr old record | Predictions for the future on: April 10, 2022, 11:01:27 AM
I don't expect to ever fully pay off the debt we own, things were going quite better before Covid-19 hit though, now we're at rock bottom again, at least we're not alone now.

The time when governments tried to help the economy and ordinary people with various measures is over, now they will try to charge us with interest, and they have two good excuses, inflation and war. It is not easy for ordinary people, but for those who knew that this time will come sooner or later, it is still easier to reconcile that we have to adjust - I have experience with much worse things than inflation, so I can accept such challenges perhaps easier than others.

P.S I was to visit Croatia next week but couldn't find affordable tickets from my area (I live on an island), I really hope I could visit next time, Zadar and all the Adriatic islands are extraordinary.

I hope you enjoy your visit, especially at this time of year when it is not too hot - and I hope it will be nice weather, because yesterday was a very stormy day with strong winds and rain along the entire coast. The good thing is that all measures against covid have been removed, masks are needed only in pharmacies, hospitals, and nursing homes. I would buy you a beer, but unfortunately, I am currently located far from the coast.
5292  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's play: "Pretend to be Satoshi!" on: April 09, 2022, 03:10:49 PM
I like your response now, and I agree with that. Maybe you are Satoshi after all!

I hope you're kidding, but just in case, I'm not Satoshi Wink

It's difficult to disagree with that person - signing so many old keys at once and so long after 2009 is quite the feat! That person has very good chances of being Satoshi.

The chances are always there, but it could be any of the early miners, and we know there were many more than Satoshi and Hal Finney during 2009. See more in this thread.

(I should have checked but thought you were referencing one of the other post 2011 Satoshi things, many of which I question heavily.)

I got lost here because I don't understand what post you're talking about - Satoshi was last active on December 13, 2010, and I wasn't a member of the forum back in 2011.
5293  Economy / Speculation / Re: A Little Surprised! on: April 09, 2022, 02:55:44 PM
I think the reason why it didn’t is because there is too much economical and geopolitical Issues at the moment. We got a war going on. Gas prices are at highs. We got horrible inflation and due to that we got maybe 8 or so rate increases this year. Fed has no choice but to increase interest rates.

Rising rates is not good for stocks and right now crypto follows stocks pretty closely especially the nasdaq index. So many people are on the side lines until this boils over. Another issue is the inverted yields which usually signal a recession. So people are going into risk-off mode.

I think you have a good idea of what is currently affecting the markets, and there is a lot of talk about these things on various business TV channels that I have watched in the last few days. Despite the good news, risky investing at the moment is not an option for the average Joe as he becomes increasingly aware that the prices of all essentials are skyrocketing.

Of course, that doesn’t mean no one is buying, but even big fish can’t move the crypto market upward at the moment.
5294  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation hitting a 25yr old record | Predictions for the future on: April 09, 2022, 02:35:41 PM
A little update, after the announcement of March inflation in Greece, from the Hellenic Statistical Authority. Greece's inflation in March surpassed 8.9%, the highest since 1995. On top of that, the average price for fuel is 2€/liter for petrol and €1.70/liter for diesel, while we're having one of the most expensive electricity in Europe.

I will not say that there is anything in the fact that Greece is in a position to pay dearly for all the help it received to get out of bankruptcy, but it seems to me that your hands are quite tied and that you are at the mercy of Brussels and the European Central Bank. I will not say that it is better in my country because we are somewhere in the middle when it comes to inflation and data for February, but since we have our own currency, some things are still easier to implement than being in the eurozone.

Some other countries are even more disadvantaged with double-digit inflation rates - Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia are examples that there can always be worse. Given that all three countries have decided to stop importing Russian oil and gas, it remains to be seen how this will affect inflation in the coming months.

5295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's play: "Pretend to be Satoshi!" on: April 09, 2022, 01:56:53 PM
That sounds like two opposites? How can there be a change of on-chain capacity without changing constants in code or reducing security? I actually just don't understand what this is getting at here, but would like an explanation.

You'll have to ask who wrote it for an explanation, and since he signed a bunch of BTC addresses from 2009, maybe it's Satoshi - it seemed appropriate to me in answer to your question. It is logical that Bitcoin must be developed and upgraded, but the emphasis is on the fact that it must retain its essence, that is, there should not be some radical changes like what people who did some of their visions of Bitcoin did. All of this is written in the context of proving that CW (Faketoshi) is not Satoshi.
5296  Economy / Economics / Re: Will sanctions force Russia to create a CBDC of its own? on: April 09, 2022, 01:36:35 PM
A digital Ruble living on its own blockchain network would be truly unstoppable. If other countries wanted to bring down Russia's economy, they would need to shut down the entire Internet to become successful (something that's largely impossible). Imagine if the new digital Ruble is launched as a sidechain to the main Bitcoin blockchain. It'll be as secure and censorship-resistant as Bitcoin is, greatly undermining the US Dollar's influence in the mainstream world.

What is the benefit of digital currency if most of the world will not accept it? Let's say that Russia has its own CBDC at the moment, it would have to convince all its allies to accept the currency and that would make trading somewhat easier for them - but that doesn't solve their problem with sanctions imposed on almost all major countries.

Do you think economic sanctions will force Russia to create a CBDC of its own? If not, why? How do you think Russia's economy will fare in the next 5-10 years? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley

I know there have been some stories that they are working on it, but as I have already written I do not believe that something like this can help them save their economy. In 5-10 years, Russia can be back to where it was before the war because it has what the world needs (oil, gas, nuclear fuel ...), but only if war ends as soon as possible. Of course, the condition for lifting the sanctions will be for Putin to step down, but he can always set up a puppet to rule for him.

People are very forgetful (or pretend to have forgotten), so it is possible that Germany is leading the EU, and 80 years ago they caused the deaths of tens of millions of people - Serbia, which only 30 years ago did the same thing Russia does today, is a candidate to join the EU without changing their foreign policy towards their neighbors at all.

Q: Satoshi, what do you think of the lightning network? What do you think is next?

Quote
A -- The Lightning Network is a significant achievement. However, we need to continue work on improving on-chain capacity.
Unfortunately, the solution is not to just change a constant in the code or to allow powerful participants to force out others. -- SN

5298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thiel: Warren Buffett is a "sociopathic grandpa from Omaha" on: April 09, 2022, 10:51:35 AM
You have to love Peter Thiel today:
1. Warren Buffett is a "sociopathic grandpa from Omaha"

Regardless of all the views Buffett has about Bitcoin, and regardless of the fact that he is not on my list of people I appreciate for one reason or another, I would not call him a sociopath just because he thinks negatively about Bitcoin. He’s an old-fashioned investor who’s too late to change anyway, and with one foot in the grave why should anyone care what he thinks of Bitcoin?

What worries me more are these modern sociopaths who are in a position to make laws and fight Bitcoin at a level where they can do the most damage. So I think our focus should be on some other things that we might have some influence on, and old people like WB should be left to enjoy the rest of their lives, even if their opinions don’t match ours.
5299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are getting stronger, how are you contributing? on: April 09, 2022, 10:19:08 AM
I don't mind someone promoting Bitcoin in this way, but it still depends on the environment in which the individual is. A person who goes to a Bitcoin conference or a person who promotes some of their own Bitcoin-related business will take the opportunity to send a message with their clothes. On the other hand, the average person should always ask himself whether it is wise to draw attention to himself with such clothes, because our own safety should always be a priority.

I would love to wear a T-shirt or hat with the BTC logo, but I’m sure it would only bring me problems, so I try to keep all my crypto activities online.
5300  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jack Mallers’ Strike Announces Shopify Integration for Bitcoin Lightning Payment on: April 09, 2022, 09:46:44 AM
This is what sells now to the masses.
The technical aspect of the real advantages are not making views, are not getting followers, you need to go full extremist...

Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned, but for me such presentations are quite irritating and uninteresting, but I understand that these future generations want to listen to just such things - luckily we have the choice to change the program or turn off the TV whenever we want.

I'm disappointed in this thing about usage too but, what can someone do about it?
It's irritating to the core, first we had no services to buy with coins, now we can almost buy everything (by using a third party, acknowledged) but nobody wants to buy stuff anymore, 99% of the holders want Amazon to accept bitcoin but not to use it, they are waiting for a 5x increase in price.

In the end it all comes down to the price of Bitcoin and unfortunately it must be admitted that the vast majority do not care about anything else. If we look at how the crypto market reacts to the Mallers exposure at the conference, then we see that people were mostly disappointed given that for days there has been talk that Apple is the big news. No one takes into account that Apple is not MicroStrategy, and that some of the biggest shareholders like Berkshire Hathaway would certainly not be happy if the company was linked to Bitcoin in any way.

I think the best way to deal with this is to fully admit bitcoin is a tool, and everyone is free to use it as it deems fits...

It's the only logical thing, people need to decide how to use something, and if these big investors send a message with their example that Bitcoin is digital gold, I have no doubt that most of them will follow.
