5306  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: ICOs contribute to the growth of Alts and Bitcoin on: May 07, 2018, 05:34:07 PM
Trouble is, many (most?) of those ICOs are outright scams, many others are just utterly lame and will never produce anything worthwhile. I don't think that's the right way to grow the "cryptoeconomy" and in any case it would be naive to expect that this whole mess could last. Governments are already stepping in - e.g. the SEC wants to regulate the ICOs.

Most ICOs do not accept participation from the US residents anyway, I don´t think is going to have that much of an effect. The market may change, but I hope it will still be there for a few years.

The SEC is just an example. The point is - this whole ICO mess is so horrible that even the slow-moving US government bureaucracy seems compelled to do something. Other countries will catch on too. If there is no serious effort to self-regulate and clean up the ICO "industry" then it will end up permanently marginalized, and for a good reason.

Re US residents - that would imply KYC, which most ICOs still don't do.

I haven´t seen many ICOs without KYC in the last month. In fact, that would lead me to think they may be a scam.

I think that the scams are dealing damage to the system, you have a point on that definitely. But think of it as something that can actually bring a good change, that is, rather than becoming marginal, legal stability and regulation may actually bring in institutional investors that cannot risk their client´s money on an unregulated market, but may happily do so given at a legal framework where they can play with know rules.

For an ICO to comply with the regulations they would have to jump through pretty much the same hoops as any other business seeking funding (via bank loans, venture capital, crowdfunding, etc), which then raises the question - what's the point of an ICO? Right now many are simply saying "no US residents" because that's easier, even though there is a fairly well-defined crowdfunding regulation in the US.

I took a look at a few ICOs on icowatchlist.com and they don't seem to ask for any personal info during registration although some may ask to check a box saying "not a US person". Not quite KYC. I didn't go through with any registrations, maybe they ask for more details later. But they do look like scams, that's true. That whole site looks fishy.

I think that the advantages of ICOs are not related to jumping over regulations, but mainly

a) Immediate liquidity for the investment, as the tokens jump into secondary markets within days or weeks. Shares rarely do, you may be stuck with your investment for years.
b) No loss of voting or property for the team, as tokens do not represent shares nor voting rights.

These two would remain even if rules make it harder to setup.
5307  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Can a cryptocurrency project be a target for patent trolls? on: May 07, 2018, 05:29:41 PM
Anything can be a target for patent trolls and particularly any new technology. I think that Google has already started to patent some inventions that are far too generic.
5308  Local / Mercado y Economía / Re: Qué define el precio de una criptomoneda on: May 07, 2018, 05:24:44 PM
In order to identify the price of the currency, it is important to teach not just the factors of the external and internal environment and some factors of the economy such as: price, turnover, volume, the law of supply and demand.

5309  Local / Mercado y Economía / Re: COMO ELEGIR BIEN LA ICO - CUANTO MAS FEO EL EQUIPO MEJOR on: May 07, 2018, 05:20:34 PM
Totalmente pasmado XD

* Si no eres gringo ->  ojos azules, cabellera dorada, suco.. !!

(y yo nunca he dicho esto)
5311  Local / Mercado y Economía / Re: COMO ELEGIR BIEN LA ICO - CUANTO MAS FEO EL EQUIPO MEJOR on: May 07, 2018, 05:16:30 PM

5312  Local / Mercado y Economía / Re: COMO ELEGIR BIEN LA ICO - CUANTO MAS FEO EL EQUIPO MEJOR on: May 07, 2018, 05:11:13 PM
Me dejas "paxmao"  Grin

5313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vesting Periods: What is appropriate to the community on: May 06, 2018, 03:21:16 PM
Private pre-sales, teams and advisors should have a vesting period that goes in line with the project, normally minimum of 6 months to 2 years (5 in some cases) and the release of those tokens should be staggered adequately month by month. Above all, all vesting periods must be publicly know and, ideally, the positions of the managers should be public.

I am in favour to consider positively good questions from newbies to Juniors for their first merits to motivate them staying in the forum. After that, I have no conscious bias regarding the rank.

5320  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Rampant Scams Getting Serious on: May 05, 2018, 12:05:55 AM
There is a basic (and wrong) assumption in your proposal: Governments do not want an excessive number of financially literate people, nor an excessive number of properly educated people for that matter.

Educated people are difficult to manipulate, have their own views and are much more difficult to lie to. These are the traits that politicians and governments are most scared off. They don´t mind if a number of people loose their money to scams, as this additionally provides a perfect rationale for the false myth that "everything is possible if you work very hard, but there is no way to do it quickly".

You have to work (sometimes hard) but do so intelligently, and no institution wants to give away the tools that you need for that. Self learning is your friend and our hope.
