cgminer basically does Zadig for you automatically on Linux. It's still ugly behind the scenes.

It might be ugly but if it get's the job done I'm happy.  Windows is ugly and does not really work all the time. Some are lucky and they get Zadig to work first time.  Others its a pain.

I love the compac-cgminer.  It works great on RPI.   Weather it's code is ugly or beautiful it just works great.

Err: Asked to memcpy 0 byets from util.c parse_notify <>:2077

getting this  alot, only at about 800MH/s - 1000MH/s

*Edit*

DAMN, moved USB ports blamzo, 8-10Ghash.

Glad to hear it's working.  Not all USB ports are equal.  This is why a nice powered hub is nice to have you know what electricity it has.

With windows moving also might have did something with drivers and helped.  The zadig drivers in windows is why I like linux so much.  If your doing it long term look into RPI with a powered hub. Not only is it easy to setup but it cost almost nothing to run.

I have been meaning to get a raspi for mining and messi g around with, do you not need to install drivers on ubuntu? I put the zip file for the cg miner on the comp but i dont get how to run it lol.

No that is the nice thing is it works great.  No messing with drivers like windows.

So that is why I refer to it.   If you get a RPI you will be very happy for minera or running it on a desktop on RPI.
5323  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining rigs rental is that profitable? on: October 18, 2015, 09:30:47 PM
Bit x cloud ,someone said 1ghs gives around 130 satoshis, soo these value are fixed or volatil? And the roi calculated at btc is around 3 years.Altcoins get pumped and dumped if lucky the coins mined can turn into profit but well is a shot in the dark the same way as rent and wait to roi .

I don't know current price.  If you sign into Bit-x you can see the hash market.   I suggest taking a look at it if interested.

I would not base it off what someone say's.  There is a lot of info that is crap to be honest.  But do some research and see what you think.  I know I have trusted 2 sites with a little on cloud.  But I always say don't let me push you into it.
5324  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: October 18, 2015, 09:26:53 PM
Hi, when I got into bitcoins, people around me already told me mining is dead. BTC mining will not make you any money because the electricity fee used will be greater than the outcome. Is this true? And how can btc mining be easier again?

Hello,

Really! Mining is not profitable. Same they say to me. Its nice hobby but nothing else.  Embarrassed

Mining is not one size fit's all.  With things such as electricity and Vat.  It's just very different for each person.

In my case I am able to mine profitable.   I consider myself a "hobby miner"   not a "home miner".  I think its in between home and full out living from BTC.    But it really is not dead and has lots of life currently.
5325  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: October 18, 2015, 09:24:19 PM
antminer all the way no more avalon tried in past and cost more than ever mined and didnt even brake even well recovered about 90% ish but still a loss will never use avalon again and higher power use and delivery times ill pass.

Depends on pricing.  Which Avalon are you referring to?

I know  some consider Canaan-creative different, and some still hold a grudge from when it was just Avalon.   I do not take sides as i was not part of it all.   I can say the 4.1 is a great machine.  If they do like that on the Avalon 6 and close or lower then bitmin I would definitely try one.
5326  Economy / Services / Re: Antminer s5+ purchase on: October 18, 2015, 05:55:19 PM
Are there any reputable sites where I can still buy an antminer s5+? I am thinkig of starting mining bitcoins and want a large machine to start it with! I am only willing to buy from reputable insured sites such as Amazon or Ebay.

(please do not post WTS posts here about antminer s5+'s)
http://bitcoinbg.eu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3293

This is in Bulgaria and I'm not sure what did they mean by the price "5800лв"

5800 Bulgarian Lev = 2,963 Euro

Even if it is for 3 miners looks a bit high for used s5
yes , I know. It isnt my offer. I ve just posted

I think they are mistakenly put extra zero in the price and it's actually 580 Bulgarian Lev (296 Euro)  for one s5 which looks reasonable.

On the page it is a S5+ not 3 S5's tough.  So I'm not sure fair market value but it is higher then 3 S5's.

I love my S5+ I won't be selling it for a while.

Running on windows I get "The program can't start because zlib1.dll is missing.

See if you can get the .dll from the regular CGMiner.  It should be in there if it is missing.

Honestly Linux is the way to go with these.  So much easier.  Even a RPI is very nice and easy to use.
5329  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: October 18, 2015, 05:05:10 PM
Bit-X is a great campaign so it has a lot of people who want in.   Recently there was a open recruitment of some.

Right now it is closed unless you bring something special.   If your asking for to join and not getting a response back that would be a no I'm guessing.   But best of luck to you.
I believe that he was talking about there being low quality posters in the campaign, not about him wanting to be in the campaign.

I wanted to be in this campaign some time ago when those open positions were available, after trying the automated application on their site and it bot working with my ID or bugging, I sent him a PM about it and didn't get a reply, then sent another one later asking if there would be any spots open, still no reply.

I guess he has a lot to do and random full members asking him questions isn't on his priority to reply to. :p

I'm guessing he is busy he run's quite a lot.  But yes it's changed from open to closed.  There is not a timeline to when it opens.  It's based more off how many people are in it and if it ever needs a infusion like it had.

So at this point you need to bring something special and PM him to join.  But really does mean something special.

shuold not be a pool for this?
every one uses diferent ones
i use on line trading wallets like poloniex but its me lol no need secure or safety

Not really as this is "best bitcoin wallet".  Most of us consider best to be the most secure which just makes sense.  If you did that paper wallet should win most of the time.  Then hardware wallets next, and last regular wallets.

Cold always wins out if done right though.  It just is safer.
5331  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best way to earn Bitcoins? on: October 18, 2015, 04:57:14 PM
best way is just minig.

I'm mining...I mine around 600 satoshi per day...

Really mining has become a joke now a days. It has happened to me when I was actively expecting returns from the famous cloud mining. But when bitcoin prices go below $400 levels I started earning in negative satoshi. Cheap electricity and latest ASICs are needed to mine bitcoin now a days....

I still mine I love it.   I mined through all summer with quite a bit of gear.  It no longer is 90 day ROI.  But it by far is not a joke.

You have to have the right set of circumstances.   Mainly decently priced electricity.  But people still can mine.
5332  Other / Meta / Re: PSA: ACCOUNTS WILL BE LOCKED IF THE SECRET QUESTION IS USED TO RECOVER IT on: October 18, 2015, 04:55:33 PM
Why not just remove the secret question?
When the account is locked for security reasons you will have to sign a message from an unused address anyway

I would guess it's that the forum really does not check email when you sign up.  Some assumed  secret message was enough.   But after a while that big hack the secret messages were compromised.

So now you really need to sign with a address used or something else to prove ownership.   Honestly everyone should stake a address
5333  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Placing machines outside on cold winter? -20 on: October 18, 2015, 04:49:29 PM
Nice experiment man! Don't forget to write down the results you get for yourself and for public knowledge as well  Wink

Specifications usually mention 0 deg C as a minimum, because equipment is not tested below that, but this doesn't mean it won't work. Maybe you can even give feedback to the manufacturer saying that you tested it for X time and worked / did not work.

As for your cables, others said as well, look into them. Burned cables are no good. Also, 4A/mm2 can be taken as the rough measure on how much current you can push through a copper cable. Don't go above it when operating continuously.

Cables are not that expensive they really need replaced with proper cables.  It appears like it burnt  through coating on parts and is covered with electrical tape.  Just almost asking for electrical fire with that.

You will think us one day if you spend the money to get new wires.

Yes, I agree. Even if they are working ok now as OP says it's still better replace them because electrical tape is not a good coating for cables.

It honestly hurts me to read threads like this.  Those wires are not safe.  Add some cold weather and some snow/other water source.  Combined with exposed wire... it's asking for trouble.

I can understand trying to stay low cost but really change out the wires.   After you burn them out electrical tape is not a fix.
5334  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 18, 2015, 04:46:52 PM
Can this be ran on unbuntu?

Also the "new rbox" is using Icurus :S .. (On my windows PC, nothing running on my ubuntu)

Yes it can be used on Ubuntu.  The instructions might be a tad different then the Debian ones.  But it will be very close.

Basically forget about Icurus.  Install the compac-cgminer and run it.   So you will need to install it and use it for best results.
5335  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining on Rapberry PI on: October 18, 2015, 04:44:52 PM
Hello everybody Smiley

I'm a happy owner of a "old" Raspberry Pi (model B, and not B+). I installed cgminer, and joined Slush's pool. I managed to make the USB ASIC miner block erupter 330MH/s working. However, the rewards i got are extremely low. Therefore, i was wondering which device i should buy, to get a reward superior to the power consumption. My budget is around $100, although the absolute maximum would be $160.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

With the block erupters 1 of siehacks compac's can bet them by quite a bit.   Compare 333 MHz to 8GHz normal and up to 16 GHz without much work.

Also what is your electricity price?   If cheap enough there are options on used miners.
5336  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread oct 15th to oct 29th picks are open!! With a bonus reward. on: October 18, 2015, 04:41:46 PM
Price is falling around 262 ATM.  270 did not last very long.

Hopefully we see a  little rebound today on it.
5337  Economy / Goods / Re: Gauging interest in secure laptops on: October 18, 2015, 11:10:41 AM
What kind of Laptop do you sell, can you give some picture?

Maybe... For the right price that is, what are you looking to get and have in stock right now?

I don't know off hand what I have in stock I'll make a list when I go to the shop tomorrow.  Off hand I know i have a bunch of older models like a gateway solo 5350, these are around $115 each, come with a battery (life can vary) and charger.

Is from earlier in thread.   You can google it and see specs and that info.
5338  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: October 18, 2015, 11:08:54 AM
A bot cannot distinguish what the quality of a member's posts are (at least not yet). The 'estimator' you used is nothing more than that, a very rough estimator.

Ohh marco, you have people like that running in your campaign yet you never replied to any of my PM's. Sad

Bit-X is a great campaign so it has a lot of people who want in.   Recently there was a open recruitment of some.

5339  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 18, 2015, 11:01:06 AM
A 503 error is usually due to human intervention - maintenance or.....for a reason. As it's been down for quite a few hours now, I'll go with "for a reason".

They might have pulled it to stop sales of batch 2/3.  They needed to do it somtime soon.   So possible they pulled it down during US time and work on it with more of the workforce during China time, it's now morning there.   They really have not had a ton of time in China yet to fix it.

And also with price of coin we could see increase.  They could have  a meeting or  two on that before putting it up with another batch.

They wouldn't take the site down to remove quantity or products from sales.

One would think.  I have not tried to hit up any BM contacts.  But it is China daytime now.

Do you have any idea why they are down?

No, its a Sunday so no one is on.

I'm thinking someone got told to go in and work on it.  The website is now up again.

I don't see anything really different after a quick glance.
5340  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I invest? on: October 18, 2015, 09:14:37 AM
Alot of sites scam now days you could try lend to trusted members

Yobit could be the best site to invest, for small people.

You even have it in your signature. It's just a good exchange that holds your money safely, while you can invest in very cheap yet profitable altcoins.

all exchange site doesnt guarantee our money is safe, they could be trusted for now but sooner or later we still dont know. remember what happened in MtGox?

Circle and Coinbase are insured. That means if the money is lost (i.e., MtGox) you lose nothing. MtGox was not insured.

for how much they are insured? like bank up to 100k? i'm sure that if they will be hacked big, they won't be able to cover every loss

so the problem still stand, better to save in your cold storage

They're not FDIC insured, they're insured by A+ third-parties. Meaning they aren't limited like banks are.

The bigger thing then how much is what they cover.  For example coinbase - https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1662379-how-is-coinbase-insured-

If you read it they are insured if a huge data breach.  But if say one single account is compromised due to owner being phished, etc.  Its not covered.
