5321  Economy / Economics / Re: Passive Income on: December 15, 2015, 05:55:25 PM
Don't know if this is really considered a passive income, but I run a couple of websites that earn me some affiliate income plus some Google Adsense revenue.
I do have to keep them updated to maintain a high number of visitors.

My only really passive income is from cloud mining Smiley
5322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What wallets do you use and why? on: December 15, 2015, 05:50:12 PM
I use a couple of different wallets, some hot wallets on Blockchain.info and an Electrum wallet on my desktop pc.
Also have an Armory wallet on a laptop that isn't connected to the internet for cold storage + backup.

And another one on my Android phone, though that one hasn't seen much use to be honest.
5323  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is it profitable to run a dice gambling site? on: December 15, 2015, 02:05:09 PM
Starting a new Bitcoin dice site today would require you to do massive amounts of promotional campaigns, just to get any kind of userbase.
The competition is pretty huge, like other before me have already mentioned.

I don't think you'd need something unique, just a website that looks trustworthy, games that are provably fair and like I said, pay for a lot of advertising.
5324  Economy / Economics / Re: Europe in Crisis on: December 15, 2015, 08:41:11 AM
Maybe Europe is now in crisis, but just give them a few years and the economy will be fine again.
Is like the other years in the pas the economy was also bad.

Wow!
Do you really believe what you're saying?
Not Europe is the problem. The EU is the problem! This thing will collapse sooner or later.I'd guess sooner.
We are already at a point where is not way back too good old or better times. Not for the folk, the average joes.
What is going on right now, what we see now is one last big deep breath and then this EU will die!
The EU is indeed the problem, not that I think the concept of the EU itself is bad, but the current form has been proven to be overly bureaucratic and inefficient.
I do think you're exaggerating though, I believe things will get fixed or otherwise they will see EU members leave.
5325  Economy / Economics / Re: Why You Should Never Sell Your Bitcoins Ever on: December 15, 2015, 08:36:48 AM
There is NO FIAT MONEY that goes from simple to double without a fucking crazy event like a crazy enc of WWI  Roll Eyes

And it was not in one day Wink

There are plenty of currencies that have halved in value in a very short period of time. The Brazilian Real is currently halving in value every 7 months.

There was no crazy event to cause the Zimbabwe dollar to crash, just bad monetary policy. It took a few years.

Again, I perfectly agree. The difference being that it took, as you said, "a few years" or at least "a few months". Bitcoin changes in only a few days, so I find it hard to get convinced that "no this time is the good one, it gonna be stable".

I don't even know how many times I saw that btc is going up and is going to stay up ^^

Not saying you're wrong, just saying that as everyone is screaming "this is it this is the time" everytime btc gains 100$, I find it hard to believe that this time is the one.

Well if you look at the overall picture, then Bitcoin has only seen a steady increase in value over time, accompanied with a few bubbles, the largest one being the 2013 one, when prices went over $1000.
So in that regard, this is indeed the time, and I think it will last for a while.
5326  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [SPECULATION] Next big thing in online gambling? on: December 15, 2015, 05:35:15 AM
I want to believe that skill-based games will be a new thing, but it seems like they won't be a big thing because there will always be someone who will have more of an edge. It seems like luck is the main thing gamblers want to see.

I think the next thing in online gambling, however, will most likely be fancier slot/dice machines, or we might see thing like coin pushers become a thing, even though that is far harder to do than is probably worth it.

As it currently stands, the Bitcoin gambling scene is fairly saturated with basic sites, and it'll take someone making something flashier to convince anyone to switch whatever site they're comfortable with.
For skill based gambling games to work you'd need some popular network that hosts different kinds of games.
Something like what Pokerstars is for online poker.
5327  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [SPECULATION] Next big thing in online gambling? on: December 15, 2015, 03:46:19 AM
So, we've all pretty much seen it all when it comes to new gambling websites that are coming out now and days.  From P2P games like blackjack and poker, to provably fair lotteries and dice sites... different types of sports gambling games are also starting to pick up interest in the bitcoin world which is also a very good thing.  All of these are well and good, and while I do like to frequent some of these sites when it's a rainy day; it leaves me to think about what new possibilities are out there for new entertaining games that casinos will implement in the near future.

I keep frequenting the gambling section just to see if there were any new games and ways to gamble that have been recently made, and really, it's all just the same thing... people predicting sports picks, best ways to play dice, etc. etc.

Why not freshen things up on here with a speculation topic that asks the question: "What's your idea of the next big thing in online gambling?"
I have to agree with you there, the last couple of weeks I'm seeing the same kinds of threads over and over again. Nice to see something different, I'll have a go. Smiley

I'm a fan of new games that incorporate concepts of Bitcoin in it, for example those mining games or predictions based on the Bitcoin price or difficulty, satoshimines comes to mind, but I'd like to see some new fresh ideas in that area (games based on Bitcoin, the blockchain).

I'd also like to see more pvp skill games (either new or existing games) with a gambling aspect, not really something new, but it's definitely something that hasn't really caught on yet by the big public (with the exception of poker). I'm thinking of tournaments with a jackpot consisting of entry fees. So that's something I hope will be the next big thing.

Most people arent gonna post their ideas here because if they do theres a chance some guy steals the idea and makes the game they were want ing to make.

I don't think that's necessarily true, I think there are enough people with great ideas, who have no interest whatsoever in starting a gambling site themselves. Just regular customers can give great insight in what they want and what would be popular.
5328  Economy / Gambling / Re: How can casinos profit from investments? on: December 14, 2015, 05:25:04 PM
So why would an established casino like Just-Dice accept investments? Like you said, they already have a large enough bankroll...
Do they profit in some other way from these investments? Maybe to further expand their operation with new sites or whatever else is possible...

Maybe read my post just above? In a sense, JD is working as a PoS staking pool with a 10% fee. It is clearly beneficial for JD and doog to take bankroll investment.
Woops must have missed that, yeah that makes sense indeed.
5329  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo Mining on an S3 with 51.1 Difficulty - here we go! UPDATE: Block Found!! on: December 14, 2015, 03:34:27 PM
Hi Folks,

I stopped my nearly brandnew S3+ miners at BTC passing 400US$ (S1 -> S3 selfmade Upgrade),
though I have 2 pay high energy fees.

With the winter comming in, it got reactivated,
and the better one (~478GHs) is participating in this S3 Solo game (the other @nicehash).

... after 16 days, I got a respectable best share,

{"hashrate1m": "338G", "hashrate5m": "434G", "hashrate1hr": "447G", "hashrate1d": "460G", "hashrate7d": "433G", "lastupdate": 1449149542, "workers": 1, "shares": 178751257, "bestshare": 749187554.6695118, "bestever": 749187554}

but no goal yet.

... I will keep it running for about 120 days.

Cheesy PanneKopp

P.S. I do not believe, it us useful to permanently reboot the miner - strong wishes do not provide good luck ^^

Cool, keep us updated Smiley I'd love to see you find a block, since I'm also going to attempt solo mining once I get my S3.
I think 120 days is cutting it a bit short though.. Just my opinion.

Yes, 120 days is very short. You wouldn't try to catch a fish with only 15 minutes of fishing! Smiley When is your S3 coming in EternalGloom?
I'm still comparing different options at the moment, I'm set on getting an s3, it's just a matter of finding one at the right price with relatively cheap shipping.
Import tax is also something I need to factor in possibly (am from Europe).
5330  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo Mining on an S3 with 51.1 Difficulty - here we go! UPDATE: Block Found!! on: December 14, 2015, 02:57:42 PM
Anyone,

it would help if anyone can help me step by step on how to start a solo mining pool??

Windows if possible but if it ubuntu i dont mind setting it up... i have '0' knowledge about ubuntu.
This is the closest I could find to what you're asking, it's not a guide for creating a solo mining pool, but it will get you started.
Luckily it's still up to date I believe.

5331  Economy / Gambling / Re: How can casinos profit from investments? on: December 14, 2015, 02:19:28 PM
I think i am disagree with you, if casino cant make profit there will be no more casino on this world

most of the casino make huge profit everyday, from the gambler and others maybe advertising or sponsorship

so investing in casino is a very good investment

Disagree with who? I never said they are not making profit, I asked how so please dont post off-topic things and answer the question.

I know investing in a casino will bring the investor profit in the long term, meaning that the casino will actually lose money in the long term so why are they doing it? What is the benefit they get from it?
I would guess it gives the casino the ability to raise the stakes of the games, since they have a bigger bankroll themselves.
I see a lot of smaller casinos starting out with pretty small maximum bet sizes.

Yeah I thought about that but there are casinos like just-dice that have already enough bankroll and they are actually accepting investments.
So why would an established casino like Just-Dice accept investments? Like you said, they already have a large enough bankroll...
Do they profit in some other way from these investments? Maybe to further expand their operation with new sites or whatever else is possible...
5332  Economy / Economics / Re: When do you buy Bitcoin ? on: December 14, 2015, 12:49:21 PM
I've made it into a habit to buy Bitcoin at the beginning of every month, part of it I invest into cloud mining, I save a bit in an armory cold storage wallet and I gamble a bit with what's left over.
This is now the second year in total that I've been doing this. Smiley

5334  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 21 cents per kw, Any way to mine? on: December 14, 2015, 11:02:44 AM
Iv been looking at mining for a while now but as you can see i pay quite high electricity fees. Ive done mining in the past with gpu but have always wanted to start btc mining. Is this even possible with such high electricity costs? Im even open to mining ltc and then converting to btc but maybe id just be as well buying any btc with flat?
You could set up a small solo mining rig and gamble basically. Something that doesn't use too much power and leave it on for a couple of months.
You might be really lucky and find a block Wink
5335  Economy / Economics / Re: How does rising BTC prices affect the loan market? on: December 14, 2015, 10:59:35 AM
I do some P2P lending and with the recent uptick in Bitcoin price something crossed my mind, how does this affect the rate of payback? Logically, anyone who uses the coin to convert to cash is going to have a harder time to pay it back. Of course, the opposite can be said for times where the price goes down.

Most borrowers do not convert bitcoin to fiat and then convert back to repay the loan. It takes too long to convert back and forth, leaving little time to actually "use" the money. Nevertheless, rising prices made it more tempting to default because they would get more fiat value out of it. Securing collateral is the only way for lenders to protect themselves. When bitcoin prices rises, you should raise collateral percentage in tandem.
I've seen people do loans for specific values in fiat, which could be useful if there is high volatility on the market.
It's different with loans on BTCjam though, I could definitely see more people defaulting if the price rises with 100 dollars or more...
5336  Economy / Gambling / Re: PocketDice gambling on: December 14, 2015, 10:56:29 AM
Pocket dice looks good.. But why there are no posts in this form?  any problem with pocketdice?
These smaller sites just don't get as much attention, I think, doesn't mean they're scamming.
I've placed a few bets there before, didn't cash out though, so can't comment on that.

5338  Economy / Economics / Re: If bitcoin price is $10.000, will fiat be worthless? on: December 14, 2015, 10:45:57 AM
No, fiat will not be worthless, since they will still remain the official currency of many nations. I don't think we'll see many first world nations adopting Bitcoin to replace their own currency.
It would be cool to see though, that a country adopts Bitcoin as their currency..
5339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So...bitcoin is now a national currency on: December 14, 2015, 10:41:42 AM
So this small island off of Portugal, Principality of the Pontinha, has been a sovereign nation by royal decree since the 1400s. It has been handed down and changed hands a few times. The current leader has decreed that bitcoin is the nation's official currency.

This could literally kick off a lot of things. Bitcoin would officially become a foreign currency for all nations.

Equador, which is the only country to actually pass a law banning Bitcoin (which the law only banned Bitcoin from running on its banking network) had a stipulation that it would be recognized if it became a national currency. So by passing such a law...they may have potentially forced themselves to recognize bitcoin as an official currency.

I wonder how US will deal with considering Bitcoin a commodity when it is officially a foreign currency as well.

I thought it was going to be a few hundred people, not just 4, all one family..
That isn't really news, that is just someone using bitcoin.
Oh lol, this isn't really news then, I do know of another newly formed country that has declared Bitcoin its currency.

They appear to have a bit more citizens Smiley
5340  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Blocksize needs to be increased now. on: December 14, 2015, 09:28:44 AM
We are reaching the blocksize limit fast and delays in confirming transactions with standards fees is becoming noticeable. A consensus needs to be found quickly otherwise Bitcoin is going to choke in unconfirmed transactions soon.

https://blockchain.info/charts/avg-block-size?showDataPoints=false&show_header=true&daysAverageString=7&timespan=all&scale=1&address=
How long would it take for something like that to be implemented and decided upon?
I've recently noticed quite a significant delay in confirmation time, sometimes so bad that it's messing up purchases.
