Casting!

As I've mentioned in various places I've been learning how to do casting, first with cuttlefish bone where I ended up with a sort of blob which I tried to turn into a sort of droplet and then I tried to make a small castle from solid silver through delft clay casting. While the accuracy of the casting process itself was fantastic and I can also re-use the wax moulds whenever I want to make a silver piece in delft clay casting, my wax moulds aren't great at all so I need to get better at carving and shaping them.

I'll be sure to post more updates for you as I progress along with my casting as well as on the handmade stuff as well, learning casting properly will allow me to be a bit more competitive and enable me to make more complex shapes that otherwise would be pretty tedious or difficult by hand.

Droplet made by using a cuttlefish bone for casting

Castle attempt, includes the blue wax mould used to make it, created by imprinting the wax into clay and pouring the silver into the space left behind - WIP it might look better once it's cleaned up and polished

5322  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Raising BTC to get Mark Karpeles called a bitch liar face to face on: February 24, 2014, 04:42:23 PM
Wouldn't it be cool to start a counter-donation to get all those childish, immature kiddies here bitchslapped?

Especially the dickheads who post bullshit and misleading thread titles due to being starved for attention.

+1 Tongue

Yes MTGOX is a poorly run company/scam and deserves to die, but just lowering yourself to harassing a person especially begging for money to do it is pretty pathetic, I prefer to watch him go out of business and then boycott anything he's a part of for all eternity and warn people about him whenever they get curious, much more effective.
5323  Other / Off-topic / Re: Suggest me a computer to buy on: February 24, 2014, 03:56:34 PM
I would say build your own. Don't buy it pre-built. Don't get a laptop.

This is really the best option to get a properly powerful computer because you'll know what components are in and you won't have weirdness installed on it by the manufacturer, the thing about pre-built computers is they often but in junk components, so they'll have a really nice graphics card perhaps and then a crappy CPU or a really nice CPU and a crappy graphics card.

You'll also find you'll save quite a chunk of money just getting the components yourself and assembling them.
5324  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: POLL: Do you think Mt. Gox will survive? on: February 24, 2014, 10:00:45 AM
People used Gox because it was mentioned in the media a lot. I think everyone learned there is better exchanges now, and hopefully the media follows suit and forgets about Gox.

Pretty wishful thinking there, you can expect the media to either continue mentioning MTGOX or you can expect them to use it as an example of why Bitcoin is totally broken and conveniently leave out how badly they were operating even before stopping withdrawals.

"Re: Sweden makes it illegal to have sex with animals"
 Huh
until now it was legal??? I dont understud that....
Nords lose virginity faster than anyone else in the world. In Iceland, the AVERAGE age for first time having sex is 15-16 (~16 elsewhere in Nordic countries). In the West, it's generally ~18 years, and ~22 years in the East.

Maybe they're low on body heat, have poor school attendance enforcement, they're trying to correct a labor shortage, or rotting fish just really kicks their hormones into overdrive, but they seem to hump everything, everyone, everywhere. Can't guarantee the authenticity of this statement, but I believe Sweden actually made "hump day" a weekly holiday where everyone's excused from work and school to hump each other.

Who can blame them? I'm pretty sure they have a higher percentage of hot girls to hang out with compared to most countries Tongue
5326  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which of the following occupations is most inherently evil? on: February 24, 2014, 09:17:47 AM
Since this is meant to be answered subjectively then I would say that no "occupation" is inherently evil. Jobs are merely a means to an end, a tool perhaps that may be used according to an individual's morality and perceived based upon another individual's morality. No job is going to impede someone's decision to commit an immoral act, it is solely based upon the individual, not any other external factor.

I was wondering if I was going to be the one to have to post this, I agree with you, it's the same logic that is used in blaming inanimate objects or a type of media for murder, just because someone does something that gets publicised a lot ( which is usually the cause for this kind of thinking ) doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with it, take Bitcoin for example, lots of media are claiming it's evil and it's only going to be used by terrorists and drug dealers, but do we listen to them? No, because we actually have knowledge on the subject and don't form prejudices against the people who use it, I also remember there being an article once about a small time banker who received bailout money and instead of running off with it like the rest of the CEO's did he actually gave it away to his employees because he knew the bank was going to collapse regardless.

Even when it comes to bankers and the military I refuse to get funnelled into this way of thinking where something inanimate or a title automatically equates somebody to being something.

lol Phinnaeus Cheesy I've seen your posts, you mess people around but you're not an asshole Tongue A lot of these people really do deserve to be on my list with some of the things I've seen them say.
5328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency "The Alt-ernative" Beginners Reference Book on: February 24, 2014, 08:13:24 AM
Let me know if you guys who know your stuff agree with me but the only altcoins listed I've seen which have actually tried to be different are: Anoncoin, Primecoin, Litecoin, Peercoin and maybe Worldcoin

The rest are coins which are either direct copy and paste jobs of Litecoin or they are aggressive pre-mines or centralised systems, I do think there are possible a couple of extra ones out there that have the potential to change their code though with the devs behind them.
5329  Other / Meta / Re: Wow, you people are messed up! on: February 24, 2014, 07:53:56 AM
I have 1081 names on my Ignore list, mostly because I started adding people with paid signatures to the list.

You know you can just turn off signatures right? Cheesy
5330  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malicious Firefox Installer - Google & Anti-Virus Companies Non-responsive on: February 24, 2014, 06:54:54 AM
Good find, but this is precisely why you should very rarely click on sponsored links etc. this is old news but there was a similar type of incident where some kind of Winrar virus got out and because of how much it spread it became increasingly unsafe to download the free version from any mirror sites. What bothers me is that Mozilla Firefox has always been free and open source, have they said anything regarding this? I only ever go to the official website to download open source software, I don't think this is the U.S governments' work though we should probably be careful of this kind of thing in the future.

You may want to send a message to the developers so they can maybe issue a warning about this and see whether they know anything.

Oh and a fun thing to keep an eye on, if no one is using adblock there are sponsored 'Download' buttons all over websites now where if you click on them they try to get junk installed on your PC, this is precisely a reason to install adblock though because they're trying to take advantage of inattentive people, it's pretty sad that the only ones who can really survive on the internet are those who are borderline paranoid about what they click on.

Scammers trying to dupe people. Liars and trolls spreading FUD, trying to profit off gullible people or just trying to cause havoc for fun. People hating on each other because they have different opinions, insults flying low and pitchforks seemingly always at the ready.

All these people you mentioned are on my ignore list, you'll find that these morons look like they're the majority of the forum because they're busy trying to spam people like you off the boards because that's how they roll and it's a common theme on any forum the only difference is that on here there are that many people it looks like there's just a wall of hate, feel free to add the following people to your ignore list so you will have a much more pleasant time on the forums.

When it comes to community sites, I refuse to join any that don't have a working block/ignore function simply because it's completely taken advantage of, much like how marketers and scammers take advantage of the fact that your home phone line doesn't have a block/ignore function as well.

Included in the list are the following types, some of which you've mentioned: FUD Spreaders, racists/xenophobes, people who use personal attacks when they can't get you riled up any other way, scammers, spammers and all round in general fairly unpleasant people, funnily enough I think precisely because of the ignore function a lot of these people have given up posting now because their trolling doesn't really work.
5332  Other / Off-topic / Re: Let's talk about how hot Asian girls are. on: February 24, 2014, 06:29:26 AM
This thread is the best topic on bitcointalk.

Another evidence that the vast majority of Bitcoin users are male..... and single.

And straight! ^_^

Glad I'm not the one who thinks these guys are trying to become a wannabe central bank, I don't trust them in the slightest, especially considering they let people like the MTGOX CEO join in as well.

5335  Economy / Speculation / Re: Market sentiment short survey on: February 23, 2014, 05:54:43 PM
People are beginning to realise the bullshit going on with MTGOX so I think all the exchanges will break away and stop relying on them for information regarding prices, consider this the kind of panic we saw with the news coming out from various central banks, this kind of thing definitely causes hysteria and panic selling but it won't cause Bitcoin to collapse, far from it.
5336  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Zerocoin, the bitcoin killer? Time will tell but I say yes on: February 23, 2014, 02:31:06 PM
You do know that ZeroCoin is a protocol change to *coin?

It's not designed to be it's own crypto- currency unless the dev team has run out of patience with it being adopted and decided to fork.

From the github page:

Quote
Zerocoin: C++ lib for anonymous extension to bitcoin

That's what I thought, to me Anoncoin is a more realistic option that actually seems to be making progress, for the record, I've realised I've mentioned it a number of times now and no I don't own any Tongue I would like to though.

5338  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Canada's changing laws about crypto money on: February 23, 2014, 02:25:50 PM
It's not possible to regulate cryptocurrencies themselves, they can only regulate their own paper money, I expect this will be an exercise in public relations with their central banking masters and nothing more, until they get told to write in laws giving permission for the government to kill suspected Bitcoin users >_>.
5339  Other / Off-topic / Re: Planetside 2 on: February 23, 2014, 02:20:46 PM
I'll try and keep it simple because if I elaborated on it a huge amount I'd probably stir up a shit storm depending on who's reading this thread. The basics is this, RPG systems aren't balanced and can never be balanced because these kind of systems were designed for going up against NPCs and not other players. The only way to make the balance acceptable would be to make all the upgrades you get fairly 'useless' where there are only tiny differences in statistics and the starter weapons are just as good.

For instance using Planetside 2 as an example unless they have done the above since I left you will find yourself getting slaughtered constantly by whatever can do the highest damage, usually in games like Planetside 2 that tends to be items that you pay real money for, because the devs have to reward the players who give them money over the free players right? When it comes to item shops you're paying for in game cheats, you get faster resource gains, experience and you can progress much faster than somebody who hasn't gotten suckered into the system. Going by memory though because the designers hadn't properly designed the game and thought about what they were doing there were tons of complaints by people about the infiltrator class, specifically though they were complaining about the New Conglomerate, because guess what? They did the highest amount of damage out of all the three factions so they ended up dominating a lot of map.

Note: I say this having played the closed beta and early release so it may be as clusterfucked anymore but because this is SOE we're talking about I doubt they're going  to have suddenly changed their attitudes in just a few months.
