Disregard Women.
Acquire Bitcoin.

... of course only after begging and pleading hopelessly.

Yeah, me neither. It will be worth the wait.

At least wait until CES.
Christmas sucks compared to what CES will have for us this year.

That's sort of what "lite" clients do, such as Electrum.
5346  Economy / Economics / Re: What's a proper measure of economic growth? on: December 16, 2012, 10:28:36 PM
First you might start by asking,

"Why measure economic growth?"

as sure as day follows night when "economic growth" began to be measured then an army of centralising bureaucrats, politicians and sundry do-gooders were advocating their "solutions" to fix, improve, etc "economic growth", gathering power, influence and favours upon themselves in the process ...... a thing that up until that point, no had even known was broken.

Any social metric, once conjured up, will forever after be used as a pretext for laws to empower the State to interfere in individuals' lives, for their own good of course.
That's an interesting perspective. So you are against civilization in general, I take it?
5347  Other / Politics & Society / Re: national minimum wage LAWS. good or bad? on: December 16, 2012, 10:24:45 PM
^^^ This. Beat me to it. Just need to add...

We need minimum wage laws to prevent America from becoming a dictatorship.

You don't have to pay to be able to vote. Those earning below minimum wage would be able to vote just as much as those earning a lot. Billionaire Sheldon Adelson's vote counts for 1 vote, just as much as a retired old lady's who is living only off of SSI. So, no, political corruptions lead to dictatorships. What's happening in China was actually what started as a dictatorship, which is now slowly being eroded away by capitalism.
Thanks for taking the red herring. The original argument was getting boring. It's kinda hard to vote when you can't get time off of work to do so. Those mail in ballots tend to get misplaced and not counted. Oh, and what about those 10 hour waiting lines for voting in the poor districts? It's hard for many parents to pay for a babysitter while they vote. Poll taxes are just a stepping stone to dictatorship.

can set their own wage floors, based on the quality of service and products they want to sell, and possibly even save money due to increased employee competence, decreased turnover, and increased sales volume, and that those wage floors they set can be even higher than the "officially" set ones. Which is exactly what we were arguing - that the free market can set its own wage floors, and they will not be close to zero, since a business can be much more productive by paying living wages and having happy employees.

So... why do we need minimum wage laws again?
can... possibly... looks like your moving the goalposts here. So what about those employers that want to do the same things, maybe even better, but want to pay lower wages? This will make them more profitable and hence more competitive. They will put your higher wage employer out of business. Then it becomes a race to the bottom.

So why is In-N-Out so successful? Why hasn't someone done the same thing they're doing, but paid minimum wage, thus running them out of business?
In-N-Out is in a different market than McDonalds. In fact, I have only ever seen but a few In-N-Out stores compared to thousands of McDonald's. But if they do intend to compete with McDonalds, I wish them well.

Saying that a "free market... can be much more productive by paying living wages and having happy employees" is only supported if you can prove that it produces higher wages, which you have not. If higher wages produced more productive employees, then we would not be outsourcing labor to prisons and communist dictatorship countries.

We need minimum wage laws to prevent America from becoming a dictatorship.

$Exports - $Imports = true economic growth

GDP is a propaganda statistic. Youtube "Fuzzy Numbers"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPkTItOXuN0

So the economic growth of the planet is 0?

No, it is negative since we spewed out all that expensive tech into space.  Roll Eyes
Yeah, ET imports might not be so good for the economy. They might take r joobs.

5353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Ripple a Bitcoin Killer or Complementer? Founder of Mt Gox will launch Ripple on: December 15, 2012, 10:08:05 PM
We work hard. We follow the rules. We feel we are responsible citizens. Should we also feel entitled to more debt than others less responsible? It makes sense to think so. Ripple seems to follow this conclusion. Fraudsters count on this fallacy. Past performance does not predict guarantee future results.
5354  Other / Politics & Society / Re: national minimum wage LAWS. good or bad? on: December 15, 2012, 06:01:11 PM
Well, since the conversation is no longer about minimum wage, and the last statement actually about minimum wage laws was that they're bullshit, I guess that point's been conceded.
or that nobody cares.

Nice analysis, and well written. Thank you for not making it overly alarming. More of this research is always interesting.
5358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Major Dutch bank blocks bitcoin purchases on: December 12, 2012, 04:13:37 PM
This thread cracks me up. Wasn't bitcoin created as an alternative to banks? I think Satoshi is beating his head against a wall right about now. Instead of trying to figure out how to use bitcoin with banks, figure out how to use bitcoin without banks.

My two bit-cents. Smiley
Very good point. The issue is liquidity. Most people consider something exchanged with fiat currency as liquid, but other assets are fairly liquid as well. It will take time for Bitcoin to become recognized as a currency unto itself. Hopefully folks will find other means of exchanging Bitcoin for assets they want. With the ability of 2-party escrow, now is the time for creative finance ideas to form. For instance, I imagine private lenders like pawn shops can form networks to provide competitive lending for higher risk customers.

On the other hand, Bitcoin is an opportunity for banks to be competitive. Eventually the bailout money will run dry and banks will be forced to work for their paychecks. Bitcoin will look better to them by cutting administration costs.
5359  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-12-07 americanbanker.com - Disruptor Chris Larsen Returns with a Bitcoin on: December 12, 2012, 11:45:20 AM
The point I'm making is that it would take one willing scam artist to play a nice confidence trick, and then the whole thing unravels. When considering this system, the 'stigma' of social shunning doesn't mean a thing when the person has already set out to deceive people for profit.

How would it unravel? A Ripple network is decentralised and robust, pretty much like an internet for credit. If one node is corrupt it is only bad for its immediate neighbours, who actively and voluntary took that risk for themselves. The rest of the network is not hurt and future transactions will be routed around the bad node.

Ripple does not rely on social stigma. The participants can handle their own risk any way they please: love and flowers, hitmen, social stigma, contracts and courts, whatever. The system couldn't care less. If a participant fails to do this effectively no one is hurt but itself. Risk or cost can't be pushed to others.

The risk is not for immediate neighbors if conspirators are playing the long con. The risk is based on trust. Ripple requires faith that people will not conspire to defraud. A Ripple system can be layered on top of Bitcoin, but cannot replace its trust-less utility. You can even use Bitcoin to transact with known fraudsters through escrow.

I am also interested in this. Stickers can be made with the same hologram, but with individual overlays.
