Will the spending of the money be transparent guys? We are now talking about a lot of money and I couldn't find anywhere reference to how the money will be spent. Is it a non profit event or are you guys taking a cut? I don't begrudge that at all just interested. I'm sure others are too.
spending will be transparent, bits of proof is our partner and will facilitate ticket payments. we will try to use the ticket payments only for the event itself. on the other hand the orga team (cheech300, bulleric and me) are working lots of hours already on this without compensation. we have jobs, families, a life - it could easily turn out that this is a full time job all by itself soon. we take big responsibility for a safe and reasonable planning, and since there are contracts to be signed with venue, caterer, security, promoters, etc, etc we are also looking into substantial personal financial risk. we will try to get sponsors on board and hopefully doing so we will be able to use ticket sales only for the event itself. http://bitsofproof.com/

Might as well mention here that Exante's Bitcoin hedge fund was apparently the best performing hedge fund in history. I remember being so impressed that the Jim Rogers / George Soros Quantum Fund made 4000% return in 10 years. How about 5000% in 10 months?
It looks like the BIT may achieve similar distinction.
yeah, all those fund managers will have juicy dreams/nightmares about this "k" at the percentage figure on the top listed fund here edit:typo

+1, count me in.
And agree, Berlin is way cooler than Frankfurt.
Which is perhaps reason why we should reserve Berlin for the $2500 party (i.e. next summer).
That'd be just about a week later then... don't stress me out dude. get used to it: your live will be one great party from now on

Apropos Weihnachten. Schließlich bekommt die Welt bald Weihnachtsgeld. Frisches Kapital, für frische ATH.
könnte man auch entgegengesetzt argumentieren: die leute brauchen cash für weihnachtsgeschenke...

The world is seeing the introduction of a new currency. To understand what this can do, it is useful to look at the 'ad absurdum' argument of radically changing the currency asset.
Imagine a pretty island economy. Everyone goes about their business as usual. For as long as people remember they have been using black shells as their currency. Some people that have worked hard and done well have hoarded socks full of the black shells. They feel pretty secure they can live out their lives wanting for nothing.
Now shock horror! The people of our island wake up the next day and suddenly only white shells are accepted in the economy. People still working can expect to be paid in the new white shells and life will go on pretty normal for them. But those people that had hoarded the black shells can find themselves poor overnight. And other people that just happened to live on top of a pile of formerly useless white shells are the new wealthy elite.
Bitcoin has the potential to create a big change the worlds wealth distribution. Like a reshuffling of the cards. But don't expect those with a big stash of the old currency to take it lying down. Soon they will realize a switch is going on, and they will rush to get into the new wealth asset. This will be the great tipping point where the future distribution of wealth is decided.
there are only 21/12 million btc. not enough for the 12 million millionaires in the world. (not to mention the billionaires). if some percentage of the wealthy elite thinks that this is about future wealth they will purchase them at almost any price. op is right: this will be the moment when early adopters to bitcoin can get a nice chunk of this wealth. let´s just never sell out, save coins and let them pay astronomical prices.

I'm sure we can work out a parallel gathering in Vegas
there were posts about having synchronized events in buenos aires and bangkok and australia. vegas would be very welcome. synchcronising will be a pain though.

Has anyone thought that if Bitcoin (or similar) becomes a world currency, there will be historians and anthropologists crawling all over the backups of these forums 200 years from now, understanding how the crypto revolution happened?
Weird to be in the middle of history.
Very cool thought-- I agree, we are in the midst of something spectacular (and historic). I can't help feeling both proud of and a little jealous of the guys sitting on thousands of coins (my mind almost implodes thinking about Loaded's 200k. Also, when we attend the 10K/coin party (didn't they move it to 10K?), we need to wear name tags with pictures of our Avatars so I can recognize you guys. I gotta say I'm grateful to be here. Fucking p2p is the shizo. btw choo choo Nice party to visit for some criminals with a few armed buddies I don't see the point. I don't carry paper wallets on my person. besides, any such gathering would be spectacularly well armed itself, personally I think a brace of model 94 carbines would be appropriate In Germany? That's not legal dude. Plus kidnapping and torture are always nice options to have. I don't think most of us would be targets, and the people who would be targets know it and would have security teams. They'd certainly be able to afford it at 100K/coin yes... way ahead of you. setting up personal armies is just going to become normal around here. i have received questions about personal security service for the entire visit (i am not kidding). upon request we will organize such services for people who feel safer this way. frankfurt has a large security infrastructure, so does berlin.

By the way, if you held your Bitcoins longer than a year, in the US they should qualify as a capital asset and therefore you would be subject only to the capital gains tax, which is 20% a year plus some additional percentage (<5) if over $200k.
move to germany while holding on to your coins for 12 months. overhere NO CAPITAL GAINS TAX in bitcoin gains if you hold longer than 12 months. you save 200 k $. after a few months, move back... http://www.coindesk.com/german-government-relieves-capital-gains-tax-on-bitcoin-positions/speaking of future bitcoin millionaires: here is the party you shouldn´t miss: https://btc1k.com/I sent you a PM on this but ill ask publicly too in case anyone else with info can comment. Can one just hop on a plane to Germany, get a crappy little apartment (or even stay in a hotel), and cash out all their bitcoins free of capital gains tax? Don't you have to be a citizen, and open a Bank account? And can you really withdraw hundreds of thousands of dollars without the german bank asking questions, blocking it, accusing you of money laundering, or simply rejecting it? These matters are usually a lot more complex than that. And when you go back home, how exactly do you bring hundreds of thousands of dollars with you? pm sent. residency is obligatory i think. easy for u.s.americans to establish here in germany. of course there will be questions by the local authorities, but since it perfectly legal. choose a bitcoin friendly bank such as fidor bank. they have contracts with exchanges like bitcoin.de or kraken.

850 k ... i heard about your prius before, but i didn´t know you had purchased one with a body made of pure gold (it was at one of those bitcoin meetups when i mentioned i was thinking to buy a car and pay with bitcoins. someone warned me intensively giving your story as an example.) Yep. It was exactly BTC1,000 BTC, spend when bitcoins jumped from $10 all the way to over $22, and I thought it was a bubble I should get out of while I can. The nice round number makes tracking the cost of my car rather easy Also, nice to hear my Prius is that well known. I should take some new pictures of it, since I put an extra $1,000 into it to pimp it up a bit man, i am struggling sooooo hard to reach 1000 btc. almost impossible. i guess i rather buy a prius also and just pretend it´s worth 1 k btc and yes, your prius is well known when people in heidelberg or frankfurt meet and talk about btc and cars. you served the community
