5381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Open Discussion] Centralized Bitcoin Services at Mt. Gox on: March 07, 2012, 12:26:19 AM
Gox is pioneering, you say?
If you call pioneering to buying something that already exists(MtGox was bought) and copying bit-pay, only integrated into their exchange, then yes, they are pioneering... Roll Eyes

I usually listen to what you say and agree with you, but pioneering, really?  Shocked

Well, MtGox was beaten when the first bitcoin exchange appears. MtGox won by being more convenient than others. They're also one of the first to implement mutli-factor authentication. Now they're competing with bitpay, which provide competition.

Not exactly original, but winners are often decided on execution, not the most original idea.

Being better is not a sign of being pioneers(original). I was only disagreeing on his choice of words. I know that MtGox is the biggest, and so far it isn't for lack of competition, I think it's more the "beaten wife" syndrome, we just got used to it Smiley

I would like to know the answers to the previous poster questions, also.

Interested in the Photoshop CS5 key Smiley
5383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Open Discussion] Centralized Bitcoin Services at Mt. Gox on: March 07, 2012, 12:12:47 AM
It's voluntary centralization so I don't care. If they screw us over, we are all free to go somewhere else. Until this choice exists I don't really mind their share of the market.

+1

There is strength in having many exchanges, sure. But, Bitcoin is still small, and there is also strength in one exchange being relatively strong and powerful. Gox is pioneering many things, lots behind the scenes in the legal realm, which they could not do if they were small.

Damn, are you Portuguese also? Here they disallow those Value Added SMS's and one has to explicitly activate them to be able to subscribe to the services exactly because of what you described.

What made me more suspicious was the fact that there is no "About Us" page in none of their 2 websites and the fact that I've never heard of them on this forum before. One would think that they would get a lot more "customers" advertising in a forum full of bitcoiners if they were really serious.

Disclaimer: I also don't have an about us page on my sites, more because I'm lazy and I don't like to write much than any other reason, but I advertise them openly here and it's very easy to get to me.
5385  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 5 dollar logos (or 1btc) on: March 06, 2012, 11:42:53 PM
I'm looking for a logo for a website called Bitcoin Scammers.

The website can be seen at http://bitcoin-shitlist.com as to give you an idea on something that fits those colors/style. The domain will be changed to BitcoinScammers.com in the near future Smiley
5386  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: LargeCoin Pricing Announced; Taking Pre-Orders on: March 06, 2012, 11:32:07 PM
The escrow will be with a Canadian law firm based in Vancouver, British Columbia; escrow funds will be held in a lawyer's trust account in accordance with stringent trust account rules of the BC Law Society. I will be happy to share the escrow agreement with the forum when it's ready for release.

Thank you!

Just one more question: Why don't you use a well known escrow service, like escrow.com?
I'm guessing it will be because of the non-conventional payment methods(Bitcoin), but just want to be sure.

And yes, I may be interested in buying. I'm not asking just to rattle the cage. I know I usually do that, but that's not the case Smiley
5387  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hey! New member would like advice! on: March 06, 2012, 11:20:06 PM
mmh perhaps there is no information on cost of sms because they send the sms to you, not the other way around. could I be wrong? can I still be charged for receiving a sms?

Like I said, 1% chance of being wrong, thus I deleted my reply.

Yes, you can be charged to receive an SMS(or several).

Not going to tell you exactly how, but I earn several tens of thousands of USD every month from those mobile phone subscriptions Wink
The method is the same: You enter your phone number, the service sends you a confirmation code, you get charged at least $9 and will continue to be charged every month on the same ammount. Ofcourse we have the fine print saying all that. And I know some guys who just don't put the fine print as a way to get more visitors to input their phone # and verification code in there, hence my suspicion.

Sorry man, Bitcoins (and all the scams) make me (even more) paranoid (than usual) Cheesy

The fact that I've never heard of that site before was what made me write my first reply. And I spend a lot of time in here Roll Eyes Probably more than time than I should, now that i think of it Cheesy

EDIT: The fact that none of their websites has a clue about WHO they are makes me even more suspicious.
5388  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: LargeCoin Pricing Announced; Taking Pre-Orders on: March 06, 2012, 11:11:33 PM
I'll ask again and if I'm ignored I'll start yelling SCAM...

WHO'S THE ESCROW?

No, I won't PM you asking for an answer, I want a public answer and it's on your best interest to give it.
Or do you have something to hide?
5389  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hey! New member would like advice! on: March 06, 2012, 11:03:58 PM
Dear psy, not so fast, I did not know that, so please don't call me a scammer. Angry

I used the faucet 1 on pre-paid phone number and never got charged. I will check immediately my post-paid phone invoice and block the payment. Are you sure about it being a scam?

Well, I know 99% of those services who ask you to introduce a code will charge you whatever they want because when you introduce the code you are authorizing them to do so.

I had already deleted my reply because when i looked closely at their page I couldn't see the fine print and couldn't be sure about what I was saying(and with no fine print, if they do it they will be banned from the service sooner or later). But I'm a marketer and we use a lot of mobile stuff and like I said, 99% of those that ask you to introduce the code WILL charge you a lot of money and they will do it every month. The code is the way for you to say that you authorize the charge/subscription.

If it was just to send you a bitcent they wouldn't need a confirmation code from your phone. Wink
But try to follow me here, they have absolutely NO information about the cost of the SMS, and that's fishy as hell...
Like I said I deleted the reply because there was still 1% chance for me to be wrong Smiley

What does everyone think of the Bitcoins?

Looks amazing but could be a scam.  Google 'bitcoin' if you haven't heard of it.
Anyone got one?  What are your thoughts?

I had one but I lost it. Fucking hole in the pocket!
5391  Other / Meta / Re: We need a "No begging" policy... on: March 06, 2012, 08:37:26 PM
There is no clear line to draw.  Donations towards a common project should still be allowed.  Would Bitcoin100 be considered begging?  Couldn't beggars circumvent this by "selling" pictures of smiley faces they drew in MSPaint?

I am inclined to just leave it at moderator's discretion.

I would however support a rule which permits trolling of begging threads.  Cheesy

Ofourse Bitcoin100 isn't begging. Far from me to think something like that.
I was talking more about guys registering and start begging the same day. Those are the ones that turn out to be scammers most of times. The pattern is there if you look closely.

I also support the rule which permits trolling of begging threads. Ofcourse threads like Bitcoin100 should be excluded from that rule Cheesy
5392  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Taint checker list on: March 06, 2012, 07:03:47 PM
The same day MtGox publish their "taint list" I'm cheking my addresses for stolen coins and sending poisonous pills to the blockchain as transaction fees in order to shotgun-spread the stolen coins to the miners.

Let's see where all this madness lead us.

You'll have my help when it happens Smiley

Yes, so please explain it to me..

It is so helpful for you to post this...  I would be lost without you

I can't also be bothered to hold your hand while you press the quote buttn to read the small text. Cheesy
5394  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 10BTC Loan, repay 13 in a week (probably sooner) on: March 06, 2012, 05:59:22 PM
In your site you say only 25BTC were erroneously distributed, and here you say 400BTC. Which is it?
Just curious, not trying to make waves Smiley

I say this is just fear mongering... Doesn't matter how you twist it.
5397  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What does everyone think of the BitForces? on: March 06, 2012, 05:32:12 PM
There are at least 400 pages on this forum alone about the "bitforce"...

I suspect what people think is already explained on those 400 pages
5398  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to delete bitcointalk forum account? on: March 06, 2012, 05:23:28 PM
Well, your IP is not your private information. It MUST be known if you want to roam around the interwebz. That's how they designed the internet.
If you were so worried about it why didn't you use a slow anonymizing network?

But now lets use a little analogy:
If your car is stolen and used on a bank heist are you still to blame?

And dude, being offensive? You registered here yesterday and the only posts you made were to ask for someone to delete your account, so I'm not offending you, I'm stating a fact: You are indeed a moron!

Or do you go around randomly entering peoples' houses and later ask them to put you out just like you did here? FFS Roll Eyes
5399  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: LargeCoin Pricing Announced; Taking Pre-Orders on: March 06, 2012, 05:09:50 PM
I am still hung up on the 90 day warranty. How can you drop 30k knowing it may not function in 91 days? Can/will they repair it and at what cost?
+1. Even BFL has stated a 6 month warranty. Most computer manufacturers guarantee their products for at least a year or more.

If they sold them in Portugal they would need to give a 24 months warranty, wether they liked it or not.
Also, BFL said something about shipping from Germany, so I have good news. If they do that(and they said they would to avoid customs) they must follow European rules, and guess what: 2 years warranty

Thread about it in a gamers forum:
http://www.avforums.com/forums/xbox-360-hardware/475729-2-year-warranty-standard-eu-law.html

The actual law
http://ec.europa.eu/publications/booklets/move/64/index_en.htm Download the document and it's on page 7(pdf page 9)
More info http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/cons_int/safe_shop/guarantees/index_en.htm

Be aware that some countries may not follow the EU directive yet as they have 7(?) years to make it into law, so Germany could have only 1 year mandatory. At least that was the case in The Netherlands not many years ago.
5400  Other / Meta / We need a "No begging" policy... on: March 06, 2012, 04:51:19 PM
Like the title says, we need a no begging policy around here.

Or are we the kind of suckers that will give the fish instead of teaching them how to handle a fishing pole?

Beg 1 time, get a warning.
Insist on begging, BAN the fucker.

If people are banned for off-topic posts, they should be banned for begging.
Also, if you notice carefully, 99% of the beggars will turn out to be scammers. <--- Reason enough for this policy

Your thoughts about this?
