541  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Which GPU should i pick? 1070 or 1070 ti? on: January 15, 2018, 11:06:29 PM
The TI uses a little more power so if that's a concern in your rig, go for the gigabyte. If not? You'll make it up easily in hashrate, sso my vote is for the ti as well.

News for Helping people who sell Verge. I have my coin so no comment.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/money/5180704/cryptocurrency-verge-xvg-price-bitcoin-buy-january-10/

For those of you not familiar with UK newspapers, both The Sun above and the Express linked here are both considered rags, dog faeces.

https://www.express.co.uk/finance/city/904697/cryptocurrency-news-latest-verge-ripple-bitcoin-value-soar-2018-money-finance

But, that said it is still a little more exposure to the coin cannot be bad.

I was going to say something, but then I just figured "they'll figure it out". When I lived over there, the only person I ever took remotely serious that had a copy of The Sun was the fish and chips guy.

Sometimes I wonder why people like this even bother replying... the whole point of me making a post here is not so I can brag about what I already "understand".... it's clearly because I don't and have a question to ask and would like an answer.

Ugg I'm not trying to be a jerk man but you are just really missing some big electrical concepts and I don't want you to fry your unit. Let's say it this way, the D3 run's at ~1100 Watts on 13/13/13 at 120v that's 9.2Amps (1100/120 = 9.16). That's your power draw. If you are on a 15 amp breaker switch you shouldn't put much more on it, typically 80% of the rated breaker is the max an electrician will tell you (15 * .8 = 12 amps max). Anything more than 12 Amps on a 15 amp breaker running CONSTANTLY might pop the breaker switch. Now that is out of the way changing to 13/18/13 will draw more current, I'm not sure how much but what I will say it applying that much voltage to the board has the risk of overheating or instantly electrocuting the ASIC chips on the hashboard. Thus if you don't understand these concepts I'd highly recommend you not to go past the 13 setting.

Agreed 100%. Learning more about messing with electricity is key if you don't want to trash your gear.

That said, if you want to mess around and are more concerned about draw than damaging your D3, you CAN pick up a kill-a-watt and figure out your voltage/draw without math.
544  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Building Cheap Miners : My "Secret" on: January 14, 2018, 12:18:56 PM
I suppose its my turn to contribute something.  If you are into Cryptonight mining, which it sounds like a few of you are, check out this Gigabyte mini-pc for $250:  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856164036

You won't be adding any graphics cards (unless you are using eGPUS) but this thing will hash at 614 H/S.  You might be wondering how its possible to get that kind of performance out of a cpu with a 6 mb l3 cache.  The game changer is that this processor has an embedded Iris Pro GPU with a 128 MB L4 cache.  XMR-Stak recently included an optimization to take advantage of this cache space.  It should ROI itself in 2.5 months.  You have to provide your own ram and HD, but it does come with a wifi card so you could put this thing anywhere.

...and it's already almost doubled in price.

Thats a third party seller "Fateka". Not Newegg. It likely sold out from Newegg. Or Fateeka bought out Newegg and is looking to profit.

The latter. The link bypasses the sold out page and takes you directly to their third party offers.

EDIT TO ADD: also the average ebay price jumped up from around $260-80 just a few hours ago to $340 and up now.

EDIT2: I WAS able to find an i5 model at a reasonable rate (comparing the two on the Gigabyte page, the specs are identical other than the CPU i class, so I'm assuming it should come pretty close to the above estimates). Picked up one to play with.

Old thread, but I am rebuilding my smallest rig tonight, which also happens to be on my heartiest CPU/mobo, so I plan on testing this out. Will post back if it works (probably won't if I give up, though).
547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Marijuana coins in 2018 on: January 12, 2018, 11:42:48 AM
I do not think that such tokens will take off. Why create separate coins for the purchase of marijuana, alcohol, or some other things if all this can be bought with bitcoin?

Yup, this. This is why the alt thirty six folks focused on DASH.
548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: D3 miners on: January 09, 2018, 10:26:13 PM
Now there is no profit from D3 miner

Not true at all.
549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethos + electroneum or nicehash? on: January 07, 2018, 11:50:11 PM
I actually meant using EthOS/Claymore to mine ETN

I don't see why it wouldn't, just change the miner settings.
550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Marijuana coins in 2018 on: January 07, 2018, 09:00:43 AM
Let me ask the obvious question here -- why in God's name do you need a cryptocurrency to pay for marijuana, when it's legal? Why not just pay for it with fiat? You'd think the essence of marijuana cryptos would be to keep transactions under the radar. What is the point of a "weed" coin once it's legal?

Is it just so the pot heads can feel like they have some grip on, or portion of the crypto community? You can toke up, play video games, eat cheetos, and proclaim your blockchain prowess!  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I don't get it.
I think one important thing to note is that even though marijuana may have been legalized by the state, it is still illegal on the federal level (at least in the US). There are plenty of web-based businesses in the marijuana industry that can't necessarily work with cash, and the hazy state of legality may put a number of people off from using credit/debit so cryptocurrency fills that gap nicely. So while it may not be completely necessary, I think it's a good layer of security for something that's still possibly very risky.

Also, a few of the weed coins are setting up platforms for marijuana businesses that get shunned by more "mainstream" platforms. They can't advertise with Google or Facebook, so DopeCoin's Smoke Exchange could be a great option for them.

Actually the problem is banking. Most banks, being national and not state based, are unwilling to risk working with dispensaries (even medical ones) right now, which has resulted in most dispensaries becoming cash only as POS became impossible, especially once Square started refusing to process indirectly. Here in Oregon, that all happened right around the time Sessions took office (shocking, I know). Altcoins, specifically DASH, could solve the problem (google "alt thirty six" if you're interested in specifics). I know the weed named coins want to be that coin, and in some markets I think they are established to some degree--or it's all marketing and nobody is--but either way my money is on DASH to take on that role, at least initially, as the alt36 people have been setting up a POS system and trying to make agreements for over a year now (unless that is also marketing). However, in the log term, I think any stable coin with a fast confirmation cycle can easily take on that role...
551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ethOS - Ethereum Mining Platform on: January 07, 2018, 03:30:41 AM
Hi!

I'm using ethOs with ethminer and card is GTX 970 4G. Ethminer shows hashrate 10.3-10.3-10.3-15.7-10.3.-10.3-10.3-15.7 Mh/s. Why every fourth is bigger? Could I do something so that I would get 15.7 Mh/s all the time?

I've found most often that those types of variables are usually due to either the miner (see if you have the same result using Claymore) or the underclocking/memory settings. Try setting all to default (# out any memory or powertune/core settings) and rebooting, if it's still the same change the miner to Claymore (globalminer claymore) and reboot. If it's still the same, check your risers and PSU and make sure you are providing enough power. It's also possible that you just randomly have it set up so every 4th card happens to just be better (better memory or clock speed). You can mess with the settings for each individual card to drive up hashrates once you are sure everything is stable.
552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethos + electroneum or nicehash? on: January 07, 2018, 03:19:35 AM
does anyone know if it works with claymore?

Ethos? Yes, it comes with Claymore 9.8 as of version 1.2.7, but they JUST released an update so they may support 10 now (you can also manually install 10 on an earlier build, their website has instrux on how to).
553  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Hotmine X5/X6 upgrade for antminer S5/S3 on: January 06, 2018, 03:43:05 AM
The pre-order is apparently made by email; I haven't paid for anything yet.

I asked them for a 1 x Miner X6 1.1 KW, 7.2 Th/s- 1900 usd. They asked me if it would be local pickup (which is the case), and told me they would contact me to arrange payment beginning of February when the unit is available.

However, they also told me they had 60 of these X6 available when I first got in touch with them... I'm not totally convinced this is legit yet to be honest.

I'll post here if I ever hear back in February as they said, but this might just not happen...

Yeah, personally I'm done with them. Between the price hike, the ROI rate, and the complete lack of customer service, I'd rather just buy an S9 at this point

They had 89 available when I contacted them and did say they all shipping was local or they do local pickup. I do think they are legit, but are just focused on doing local business as it is easier. You can't really blame them for trying to keep thing simple for themselves.

I'll try ping them a couple more times and see what happens.

Yeah, no, wasn't meaning to imply they aren't legit, I'm just over trying to buy from them. Smiley

555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: L3+ Way Overclocked! 500M frequency - 650 MH/s! on: January 05, 2018, 09:33:05 AM
Overclocking ASICs is always a really stupid move. Especially when you have no clue how they function and think that the temperatures are all that matter.

P.S. Stop being lazy and using nicehash, sit down for an hour and figure out how to do things the proper way and you will earn much more in the long run.

Not really. Think about when the D3 first came out. If you'd overclocked it to the highest stable hashrate and left it running back then, by the time the second batch shipped you'd have made more than you probably will with any batch since on any setting. So it really just depends.

I have my L3 overclocked to 600 with zero problems (running for a couple months now), my D3 uses BlissZ's mods and runs underclocked a lot of the time, but will be overclocked when it moves to the basement. If I had an S9, though, I would leave it at stock, because that will be a consistent earner until something new comes out for BTC.

I mean, there is certainly something to be said for longevity, my S5 still earns a steady profit and heats my living room. But just by the math, the $2-3/day it earns is nothing compared to what it earned when it was king of the block, so if I had it back then, overclocking would have likely resulted in more income.

YMMV. I'm mostly conservative with my hardware (except the L3), but I totally get the logic in overclocking.

(also Nicehash is nice when BTC drops in value, but in general yeah, I totally agree: mine coins and support blockchains of coins you believe in!)

all good and well that this is an interesting coin, but getting a wallet to work on OSx is just to run miles away from.

Everything leads back to following fix:

"xcode-select --install
ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
brew doctor
brew install boost"

and it's still not working.

OSx version is 10.13.2 High Sierra

I got the Electrum-XVG 2.4 wallet working on 10.13.2. You just need to add 83.169.38.218 to the Network settings, that will add like 5 new blockchain sources and everything will start workig just fine.
557  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you smoke weed? on: January 01, 2018, 03:26:57 AM
No, I don't. And I don't believe that weed could ever help someone.  Undecided

Your beliefs don't matter to the millions of people it helps. Just fyi.

Anyone know of an active lyra2rev2 pool? Aikapool is in maintenance mode (and closing in Feb), IDCray gives me an error message, and zpool doesn't seem to have one anymore (just X11)...
559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining farms for heating houses? on: December 29, 2017, 09:28:16 PM

It's definitely providing heat, even if the fans are at only 25%.

Yup. Fans have nothing to do with amount of heat generated, just efficiency and dispersion (though turning them down should actually generate a bit more heat in theory, since improper cooling will force the card to work harder, but that's not really worth messing around with IMO).

If you want to know how much heat you are generating, check the wattage, not the card temp or fan speed.
560  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AntMiner, What does "HW" mean in Miner Status on: December 29, 2017, 09:19:26 PM
OK So what is an acceptable number; <5, 0, 1 Huh?

It depends. I watch the percentage more than the actual number, since that's basically your lost profit. So for example, if overclocking by 5% hashrate leads to a 1% increase in HW and not a huge increase in power consumption, I watch the machine for stability to be safe but am fine with that, since the increase in efficiency outweighs the error loss.
