5421  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to deal with kernel updates on: February 23, 2022, 05:51:49 PM
This is a question I had since a long time ago, if I'm running a Linux distro with my Bitcoin Node each time I update de system and it has a Kernel update (which is really common) I have to reboot the system. Which means to stop the Bitcoin Core.
You don't need to update Linux OS all the time, except it the case of some important security update, so you can disable it and do manual updates.
There is nothing wrong in restarting your computer and node sometimes, do some cleanup if needed and than quickly sync up your node after that.
I don't know what Linux OS you are suing but I prefer stable version that is rock solid and just works, unlike rolling release system that are often updated with latest software releases.
5422  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Regulator in Canada Warns Crypto Exchanges Not to Promote Self-Custodial Wallets on: February 23, 2022, 05:17:24 PM
Canadian regulators and government officials are more desperate and pathetic with every move they are making, but I guess they have to listen someone else who is controlling them, because they are all just tiny puppets.
I am promoting self-custodial wallets, I will continue to do it in future, and I think that move from Jesse Powell was spot on and unexpected for me.
I think regulators are scared of people who are using their brains, have their own wallets and real decentralized exchange.

I don't think Admin needs to do it: icopress could set a rule that disqualifies anyone who Merits posts in the topic before the deadline passes.
I like this idea very much, but let's not talk about it in public anymore, keep it a top secret and wait until voting ends.

I know what you mean, I've recently successfully degoogled the phone, except for using a custom android rom of course, which you could argue is a Google product, but it's at least specifically designed to get rid of Google apps, and use open source alternatives, any way while you can use a Youtube app without signing in, and giving all your data to Google (newpipe via F-droid), there's still no true streaming services which is even close to competing. In fact, I don't think we'll see it anytime soon either.
Number of people who are joining alternative streaming platforms are growing every day, and it's not because those alternatives are better or offering something special, but because youtube censorship is at record levels now.
It's either that or speaking on yt in coded language so that stupid algorithm don't ban you or restrict your account for saying something that is against their weird rules.
PeerTube seems to be interesting alternative, it's decentralized and some Bitcoiners created channels there, for example bitcointv.com (n0nce wrote about it above) is based on PeerTube.
People who stay on google and youtube will probably have to buy and learn special 1984 edition dictionary of allowed words soon  Undecided
5425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏆 2022 OSCARS - Nominees, Odds and Predictions! on: February 23, 2022, 04:02:54 PM
Do you also feel the same way with Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s sequel Aliens? I reckon the feelings might be similar if you were younger hehehe.
I don't remember exact part and sequels of Alien/Aliens, but I do remember that I had nightmares as a kid watching horror movies like Jaws, Freddy Krueger Elm Street, etc :/

Yeah I understand. By the ay, when is the last time you watched T1? If its been many years I suggest to watch it again.
I watched it many times and recently I watched some remastered and improved segments, especially part with eye surgery, robot chasing in the end, and endoskeleton final battle.

Back to the Oscar rewards, did you know that you can vote online for your favorite movie (if you live in United States) on their website or on their Twitter channel with tags #OscarsFanFavorite and #Sweepstakes?
You can vote up to 20 times per day and this will be Twitter Oscar category, you can be one of the three people to win a trip to Los Angeles and participate in next Oscars reward with all expenses paid.
5426  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X - Black box 2022 on: February 22, 2022, 07:46:13 PM
Is this black box, same shit, in different wrap?
Yes, it's exactly the same shit, without any real changes on device.
Black boxes are starting to ship along with new ledger logo that is also following new redesigned website.

Has anyone got same battery problem with this?
Yes there are still issues with batteries on nono X devices even with new black boxes.
If you don't trust me, you can check out their reddit page and find all complains from customers.
Along with battery we have new problems with devices acting crazy, making it impossible to enter PIN code for your accounts.
Here is fresh example from today - Ledger Nano X Battery not working:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/syv0ki/ledger_nano_x_battery_not_working/

Has go this one a different hardware on?
No it's the same crap inside, with closed source code and new L logo on metal.
They had to justify recent price increase somehow :/
5427  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus on: February 22, 2022, 07:33:13 PM
Do you think they will lose email address? We can do a little test: create a new mailing address and put it on their website. If phishing offers (or what threats do you expect?) come in, we will know who is to blame. But there is a nuance, it is not known how long this will happen.
I don't think they will lose anything, and I always use temporary alternative email addresses when I am registering for some testing like in this case.
Some of my old emails are receiving spam all the time, so for anything new I sign up I use new email address.

I have some internal sources about Ledger Nano S Plus.
Is this the same source that told you about ledger store you ''found'' in Iran?  Cheesy
I would not pay 119 euros for nono S plus because it's untested, closed source device and I bet it's going to have similar problems like terrible model X.
Double the price for a bit more memory and larger screen is not a good deal in my opinion.
5428  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: n0nce's Steel Washer Backup jig (customisable) on: February 22, 2022, 06:34:31 PM
Well, it's not a big investment is the point I'm trying to make. You can get a working, small 3D printer for probably very close to 100€. But of course it will take time to build, set up, get into the whole process for sure.
3D Printer is a great investment but I am not sure you can find decent machine for around 100 euros (if I am wrong about it please post some links).
Maybe this cheap machine can work for printing jigs for steel washers or for some simple objects, but I don't think it can print more complex objects.
What I would really want to have is 3d scanner, because it's much harder to make 3d model than to print it, and scanners would help a lot with this.
5429  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Donation Campaign For 15-Year-Old Swimmer Lana Pudar on: February 22, 2022, 04:51:53 PM
I will leave the thread open just in case, but I have no intentions of taking part in any further activities.
Just did a quick web search with term Lana Pudar Donation and your topic was on top above that NFT crowdfunding page and above her wiki page, so anyone searching to help with donations including Lana will find this place and write if she needs help.
Maybe she prefers paper convertible marks and she doesn't care about inflation  Cheesy

btw I found one more failed gogetfunding campaign for collecting money that was approved by her father Velibor:

5430  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Irresponsible trust wallet support on: February 22, 2022, 04:43:07 PM
Don't trust Trust wallet and better don't use it at all.
I am not really expecting good support from any crypto wallets, except maybe from Electrum wallet that have big and active community volunteers and developers.
I don't like any project supported by Binance, that includes Safepal hardwae wallet and Trust wallet that are both closed sourced and code can't be verified.
No reason for using this wallet but I guess people still use it because they support bunch of shitcoins, and there are not so much open source alternatives for this.

Well, I will do it for sure. I'm planning to use Electrum wallet on my phone and desktop for Bitcoin. BTW, is there any open source multi-coin wallet?
Only available option is to use Unstoppable wallet that is open source multicoin wallet, or just buy open source Hardware Wallets like Keystone, Trezor or Bitbox.
Mycelium wallet is not bad but it has lot of ads and stuff I don't like so I am not using it anymore, all other multicoin wallets are closed source.

5431  Economy / Reputation / Re: Shady behavior by DECENT account, managing the DECENT ANN thread, 7yo project. on: February 22, 2022, 04:18:12 PM
I don't see anything strange about this account deleting content of their topic especially when this ANN topic was made back in 2015, except maybe that account changed hands in 2018 when password was changed.
Before that he was mostly speaking Chinese language and using machine translation to post in other local boards, than he switched to Russian language in 2019 and 2020.
It's possible that someone could speak both of this languages but I doubt that is the case here.
My conclusion: Account changed hands.

5432  Other / Meta / Re: Fluent with multiple languages, can i join multiple local boards? on: February 22, 2022, 04:04:08 PM
If i can speak, understand and write correctly in two or more languages, can i be a member of multiple local boards and engage in their various local discussions in their respective languages? Is there any rule against it?
You can write in multiple language section if you know to speak and write them well, but don't do it if you are going to use some machine translation all the time.
Whenever I see posts like this written in our local section I report them to moderators if I see they are coming from newbies or spammers who are promoting something.
We even had one guy who was translating bunch of ann topics but he was using g-translate all the time making bad translations, and he is now banned.
5433  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Decentralised Exchanges, Which to use and how to be truly anon vs banks on: February 22, 2022, 03:56:34 PM
I would like to know the best/most secure and easiest way for a person to buy and sell bitcoin and to turn that into fiat if needed without alerting banks and government bodies since this excessive use of power shows how vulnerable bitcoin and crypto as a whole has become. it undermines the entire concept of free movement of money and ownership.
Best and real decentralized exchange would be Bisq, it works everywhere in the world, you hold the coins and you can exchange it with fiat currencies without passing any kyc verification.
Nobody can freeze your coins or block your accounts because there are no accounts, just open source software and people who use it for trading p2p.
Second option would be using some p2p trading centralized websites like LocalCryptos or something similar, but it's possible governments can ban their website or forbid access to it.
Last option is risky and it involves using some centralized that donb't have strict kyc rules like kucoin or okex, but never use any exchange for holding your coins.
5434  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Personal seed phrase on: February 22, 2022, 03:40:17 PM
So i want to know is it possible for me to create my own personal seed phrase to make it easy for me to remember it and maybe i may not have to write it down.
It's possible to create your own seed phrase, but I don't suggest using easy to remember phrases that can reduce your security and make it easier for someone else to break it down.
Best way for generating your own seed words is using dices to achieve true randomness, something our brain is not doing very well, and than just calculate the last word.
My suggestion is that you don't trust your brain memory long term because it's not reliable, so it's better to write down seed words and keep in in multiple location safe places as backup.

2. What wallet can i do it with, or will any wallet support me to make my own seed phrase.
Most wallets are supporting BIP39 seed words so all of them will be supported including Electrum and hardware wallets.
Electrum is using their own system but it can import BIP39 seed phrases.

3. Has anybody done something like that and what was the experience, is it risky?
It can be risky if done incorrectly and I already explained it why above.
5435  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus on: February 21, 2022, 05:28:05 PM
I just saw that Ledger started to open registration for new nono S plus device waiting list, but I would not suggest anyone to use their main email address or pre-order this device.
Obviously nothing changed regarding their licensing and they continue to be closed source, focused mostly on nft, and other shitcoins... not a word about Bitcoin on this page!
Device should have bigger screen and memory with up to 100 apps, but I am afraid it could inherit some of the weaknesses from older model X:

InKapital je nedavno  povecao maksimalni dnevni limit bez KYC na 70,000 kuna, cisto da se updejta ona tablica u prvom postu.
Ažurirao sam to u tablici, ali bilo bi dobro ako bi mogao to nekako potvrditi, i ne znam važi li to i za Exclusive Change i za druge koji imaju Electrocoin partnerstvo.
Na njihovoj stranici nisam našao ništa o tome.
5437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Writing down seed phrase: printer ink or pen ink ? on: February 21, 2022, 03:42:05 PM
I'm not sure what you are proposing using this invisible ink for, but it tends to fade far more quickly than regular ink so would be a poor choice for backing up your seed phrase.
I don't really propose using it for anything more than maybe sending some temporary love messages, and it was more of a joke for governments using invisible yellow dots for tracking printers. Wink

You do get USB drives with a physical write protection hardware switch. There are also WORM (write-once read-many) SD cards, which do exactly what they sound like.
They probably exist but I never saw one of this devices in my life and I never used it.
Most USB stick drives on the market don't have such option.
5438  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏆 2022 OSCARS - Nominees, Odds and Predictions! on: February 21, 2022, 03:18:29 PM
Saw the trailer but I haven't seen the series yet. It's on my watchlist though so eventually I will watch it. Series that are available on streaming sites are kinda priority to me, I got lazy downloading series.
I didn't download that, just watched it with online streaming.

Unpopular opinion: When I was younger, I preferred T2 over T1 as it is more of a "blockbuster" type of movie with better effects, bigger budget etc but as I was growing up, I kinda started preferring T1 as it is much darker and imho superior movie. After all, in T2 is machine v machine, while in T1 its man vs machine which is even more tense.
Blasphemy!  Shocked
I am not saying Terminator 1 is a bad movie, and it had much lower budget, but T2 is much more than just a story, it's the soundtrack, great music, very good actors, special effects, etc, and you can't deny it won Oscar reward.
All other grandpa terminator sequel movies are boring junk, and this is the real ending of T2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEaS8X1_gcU

PS
I like watching deleted scenes and there are a lot of them for Terminator movies.

5439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: question about seed phrases on: February 21, 2022, 02:45:11 PM
what if i have seed phrases (12 words ) and i want to know my bitcoin or ethereum or solana  any private key of my currency in my wallet but i don't know what is my derivation path(assuming i forget the origin wallet),
how i can know my seed phrases derivation?
Different wallets can have different derivation paths, and real problems are starting with all the shitcoins and mess they created.
I don't think you will have any issue with Bitcoin derivation paths unless you used some custom path, but I don't suggest ever doing something like that.
Stick to regular paths and you can always contact wallet developers and ask them to tell you exact derivation paths.

and how i can get my other currency private key if i didn't find wallet support my derivation path anymore?
Along with iancoleman tool you can also use it's fork Coinomi BIP39 tool that works with few more coins, but use it only offline:

5440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Really need some help... on: February 21, 2022, 02:35:23 PM
I'm basically trying to break back into my own wallet if anyone is able to help. I've lost all other options and would really love some insight on how I can possibly code this myself or guide me in a direction to make this
Making mistake with one of the seed words is not such a big problem as you may think and it is possible to fix this, but are you absolutely sure that you those twelve words in correct order?
That is something much harder to correct, and I would recommend writing numbers in front of words, and in future always double check seed words after you wrote them down.
This should apply for all wallets, and some hardware wallets even have option to check if all words are correct without importing them.
