Well, they have to do something.  Cool

Interesting thoughts guys. Sadly I think being a rich white guy does play a role. If he were poor and black he might already be in jail. And if his girl friend was white, he might already be executed.  Undecided

It does play a part but he wouldntve been executed already. Does South Africa even have the death penalty?
I don't know? And I was exaggerating.

It will be interesting to see what happens ten years after giving the next generation of computer scientists bitcoin. there are some smart people at MIT, any one of them may produce the killer app needed by the mainstream.

I carry a gun everyday and keep one ready every night. If I killed someone, as described in his defense, then I should go to jail because it was my fault they died. I don't know know the law there, but here if you blindly shoot through a door then you are going to prison.

Yeah, let's tear it down! We don't need laws or police or roads or education. All that stuff get's in the way of my plans to enslave your children anyway. Without the government we can enjoy the peace and quiet that comes from the aftermath of a well executed poison gas depopulation.
Your children will not have to deal with the distractions of civilized life. There will just be mining and dying early. Easy peazy. It will be just like the good old days after the fall of Rome or the glitter of the bronze age collapse.  Grin

Well done! It is much improved.  Smiley
5428  Other / Off-topic / Re: Time Does Not Exist on: April 30, 2014, 05:41:33 PM
I think of it as time does not exist independent of an observer. If all of us were gone tomorrow then there is no time, as it is only our perception that creates time. To some physicists, everything that has, could, or will happen is there. It is our brain that perceives us as moving through these possibilities and causes the phenomena of time.

Mind blowing stuff.  Smiley

Again, you are not proving times existence, you are just stating that it "seems to go by" to you. But again, you are acting like your perception of light, distance, etc matter, when all that matters here is "Is there a substance called time, and if not what exactly are we calling time" and what we are calling time is "Movement and change" which is NOT "time".

Oh, I'm not claiming to understand. I'm at a loss. It is weird though how we think of time as movement. Is it that we are moving through the matrix of possibilities held in some kind of superposition? Hell if I know?
I like how Stephen Hawking asks "how do we know time only moves forward? Would you be able to tell if it stood still or went backwards?"

Can you explain how he thought time could bend? I do not understand that.
The twin paradox is often referred  to for an explanation.

I would guess your best option for conversion to fiat is a face to face meeting. Perhaps you could say what city/place you are in and find a person that way?

5432  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why Habitable Exoplanets Might Mean Humanity Is Doomed on: April 25, 2014, 08:24:28 PM
I never thought much of the "habitable zone" theory. We have no idea what life really likes. We only have one example to look at, and for all we know it is a weird example. Perhaps it is more common for life to exist on stars than planets? or maybe the ultra-cold areas of deep space is where most life exists?

Do you promise this is the Final Warning for Long-term holders?
We don't get to look forward to any more?  Cheesy

Haha ha. So true.  There will be daily final warnings for centuries. Cheesy
5435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just bought my first tangible thing with bitcoin - so exciting on: April 25, 2014, 05:53:56 PM
Since late 2013 it seems few people have realized the real potential of bitcoin. I never sell my bitcoin, I spend it. Each time I do I have the same experience you have had. It's the fastest, safest, and cheapest way to use money on the net.
I use it several times a week at restaurants, stores, private sales. It's awesome! I feel sorry for the suckers who hear about bitcoin and think they are going to get rich as "investors". That was never the intention of bitcoin. It is for buying stuff.
5436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PBOC made it clear it wants btc below 3000CNY (480usd) on: April 25, 2014, 05:46:10 PM
So the source is another thread in these forums? That means the source is "a guy on the internet".
I don't know what the PBOC really thinks or wants, but I know they have no chance at all at controlling the price of bitcoin. I read a lot of threads about who is taking over or controlling bitcoin. What I never see is how the hell it could be done. The best any entity could do is play spoliator. In that scenario they would buy up a billion dollars of BTC then sell it all for a few pennies each. That would drive prices down a lot. But for how long? and who is willing to lose the staggering amount of cash needed? What would they even have accomplished?
5437  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTS 3 BTC for paypal Only on: April 25, 2014, 03:28:42 PM
I understand your caution. But I doubt anyone here is going to send a stranger their identity. Or deal with paypal. Both are non-starters for me.
5438  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTS] 0.05 BTC on: April 24, 2014, 08:28:28 PM
That's such a small amount, why not just spend it?
I need this it's something to me and I don't gamble.
Fair enough.  Smiley
I don't gamble either, except for the stock market.

5440  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Safe way to buy Bitcoins? on: April 24, 2014, 07:09:15 PM
I would recommend never using PayPal or considering an offer at a low rate. It is a drag, but you should either use localbitcoins or research exchanges in your country then fund your account with a USPS money order. Then, after executing a buy, withdraw your bitcoin right away. If you do not have total control of your private keys then you do not own any bitcoin. An exchange could close anytime and leave you Satoshi-less.

Why wouldn't you use paypal to buy ? I understand why wouldn't you sell, but I don't see the harm in buying.
I just don't like them. lol
No, it is because trading bitcoin is against their TOS. I don't trust them to do the right thing in a dispute since I would be operating outside of their rules.
