I prefer not to show it at all. No one really needs to know, and it'll probably cause hurt feelings and drama.
5442  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to delete bitcointalk forum account? on: March 08, 2012, 05:49:57 AM
Deleting accounts doesn't mess up any threads, like this thread. It just changes to anonymous, with no profile information. Post stays intact.

As you can see here, I only change the username to "Anonymous" on request.
5443  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Astana used stolen cedit cards? Maged can you back this up? on: March 08, 2012, 05:46:08 AM
Oh good you saved yourself for the moment i'll decide on you later. But not so fast. Those who snitched on me, who are hacking me i.e you absolute fucking  cowards & dogs are not forgiven. louscalet, gigavps, jackrabbit, & psy I want you to write full apoligies in a thread. Or I pull the trigger. 40 lawyers just licked their lips. Don't worry it's not about money, I could give two shits about money now. But what happened was dirty and downright disgusting.

This kind of nonsense is why you were banned. I don't care whether you're a scammer.
5444  Economy / Services / Re: Shades Minoco / Shakaru / Collections / Debt on: March 08, 2012, 05:38:37 AM
Scammer paperwork has been filled out and submitted. This is in theymos' hands now. Unfortunately, the evidence I submitted is quite convincing. Sorry shakaru.

Shakaru can't be a scammer because he has made arrangements to repay his victims, and it looks to me like he is honest about repayment. This is similar to terrytibbs' case: he had his scammer tag removed once he made arrangements to repay and had paid a few people. Maybe the issue can be revisited if shakaru doesn't start making regular payments in a month or two.

Because shakaru's donator title might give him more trust than he should have at this point, I am removing his donator status for now. He will then have no advantage or disadvantage in acquiring trust.
5445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Security update: duplicate transaction vulnerability fix on: March 07, 2012, 07:00:59 PM
I understand this is conspiracy theory stuff, but can anyone unsettle my fears about this scenario?

Anyone can read the code and verify that it really does what it claims. It's like 10 lines of code.

Can the proposal be amended to explain exactly what will happen to these transactions?

They won't be touched. The new rules only apply to blocks with a time after March 15.

1 @ .8

.8? This wouldn't be enough to get in even if prices not evenly divisible by 0.5 were allowed.

Current state:

3 2.5 edd
5447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: storage.swf on: March 07, 2012, 01:47:06 AM
I went to look at the page source and got a little worried when I saw storage.swf in the <head>. But then I realized it was just there because of the topic title...

Try comparing your version of the source to unmodified source (gotten through a proxy) to see what else has changed. Extra info from that might help you find the problem.
5448  Other / Meta / Re: We need a "No begging" policy... on: March 06, 2012, 08:06:51 PM
I tend to agree, though I usually don't delete them unless I'm annoyed by them.
5449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Github Vulnerabilities and Bitcoin on: March 06, 2012, 02:26:37 AM
Every developer has his own SHA1-protected git data, so bad code couldn't have been introduced easily.

IIRC bitcoin.org is served from Github, so a worst-case breach of Github could cause some damage.
5450  Other / Meta / Re: I feel tiptopgem has destroyed the auctions board. on: March 05, 2012, 04:19:01 AM
I can't find the link to the rules about spamming but I read somewhere that repeatedly bumping your own thread was not allowed. Some of his threads are 15 posts of nothing but him.

I personally do not have a problem of him having many threads for auctions but bumping auctions that ended months ago just seems silly.

He's not just bumping -- he's also adjusting the price, which is more meaningful than the typical "bump reply". So that guideline (no more than once per day and a few times in a row) doesn't apply.

It may be excessive, though. Not really auctioning, either. But it seems like most people here aren't bothered by it.

If we ever had a disagreement that got violent, would you try to fight me with a wild onion?

Shocked The Pokèmon do the fighting, not the trainers!

Farfetch'd.
5453  Economy / Auctions / Re: Advertise on this forum - Round 23 on: March 05, 2012, 02:29:36 AM
Just so I understand the process correctly, the auction was actually extended by WM before me right? because it was after 1:30?

No. His bid was about 5 hours before the auction end. The bid needs to be within 30 minutes of the ending time for the auction to be extended. (Your bid was about 2 minutes from the end.)
5454  Economy / Auctions / Advertise on this forum - Round 24 on: March 05, 2012, 02:21:22 AM
In order to collect more money for the creation of good forum software, the forum is selling ad space in the area beneath the first post of every topic page.

Ads this week will be allowed to contain any non-annoying HTML/CSS style. No images, JavaScript, or animation (no marquee or blinking). Ads must appear 3 or fewer lines tall in my browser. Ads will be prefixed with "Advertisement:". Ad text may not contain lies, misrepresentation, or inappropriate language. Ads may be rejected for other reasons.

There are 10 total ad slots which are randomly rotated. So one ad slot has a one in ten chance of appearing. Eight of the slots are for sale here.

The ad lasts 7 days starting from when I put it up.

Stats: On the 20th of November, 2011, there were about 120,000 views of topics. So one slot would have appeared around 12,000 times per day. The ad doesn't appear on topic pages with only one post, though, and it only appears for people using the default theme. Total views per day on more recent days (in March):
- 1st: 154232
- 2nd: 534317 (This is unusually high. Due to recent Linode press, I think.)

Efficacy stats:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=54182.0

Info about the current ad slots:

Auction rules

Post your bids in this thread. Prices must be stated in BTC per slot. You must state the max number of slots you want. When the auction ends, the highest bidders will have their slots filled until all eight slots are filled.

So if someone bids for 8 slots @ 5 BTC and this is the highest bid, then he'll get all 8 slots. If the two highest bids are 8 slots @ 4 BTC and 1 slot @ 5 BTC, then the first person will get 7 slots and the second person will get 1 slot.

- When you bid, all of your previous bids are automatically canceled.
- All bid prices must be evenly divisible by 0.5.
- The bidding starts at 0.5.
- The auction end time is 02:00:00 on March 12, UTC. Countdown. (The end time may be extended -- see below.)
- If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first.
- Bids are considered invalid and will be ignored if they do not specify both a price and a max quantity, or if they could not possibly win any slots

If any valid bids occur less than 30 minutes before the auction end time, then the auction will be extended by 30 minutes. If any valid bids occur less than 30 minutes before the new end time, then the auction will be extended again, etc. The time will not extend beyond 6 hours total.

You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address. Otherwise your slot may be sold to someone else.
5455  Economy / Auctions / Re: Advertise on this forum - Round 23 on: March 05, 2012, 02:10:58 AM
The auction is extended by 30 minutes because of aurumxchange's late bid. The auction will end when the countdown reads 00:30:00 if there are no other bids.

Current state:

8 5 aurumxchange

5458  Other / Meta / Re: ADMIN why are you deleting my threads? on: March 04, 2012, 12:08:18 AM
- They were in the wrong section.
- You're posting way too many "announcement" topics.
5459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Ultimate Delimma on: March 03, 2012, 09:07:00 PM
Anonymity allows a service to opt out of the legal system (to some degree). Without legal restrictions, services can operate with much lower cost and risk, though users of the service will have higher risk. I don't see anything morally wrong with it as long as the service doesn't pretend to be non-anonymous -- users can weigh lower costs with higher risks and make their own decisions.

Doesn't common sense say that no matter what happens, if something is anonymous, it shouldn't be trusted because the risk is too high?

It's reasonable to trust anonymous services when it's more profitable for them to operate legitimately than to steal everyone's money. This is common for services that don't hold onto customer money for long periods of time, such as stores.

Quote
I am ready to humble myself and work towards an entirely new mindset, one where "exchanges" like CoinExchanger can actually exist without me saying a word otherwise, but there are just too many unanswered questions.

There's nothing wrong with you investigating them or pointing out that they are very risky to use. Arguing that risky, anonymous, or scammy services should be prevented from existing is incorrect in my opinion -- let the customers decide for themselves.

Quote
Should his claim that he has 12,000BTC of the stolen coins not be investigated?

Nothing wrong with investigating it and revealing the truth. It'll give customers more info about the service's trustworthiness. Stealing BTC is obviously a sign of serious immorality, and knowingly storing stolen coins could also be seen as immoral.

Quote
What good is reputation if everyone is anonymous?

Building a reputation is expensive. So having a good reputation can be seen as a sort of security deposit.
