5481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Pre-order Bitcoin Magazine - Quality control, final revisions on proofs on: January 25, 2012, 12:40:27 AM
UPDATE: The first issue of the magazine is starting to trickle in to all of our subscribers! Such a glorious day!  I hope all the negative detractors can swallow their pride and be constructive enough to help us move on and make each month's issue better and better by providing us with valuable feedback.

Thanks for the support everyone!

UPDATE

Quote
This magazine will very shortly reach every Barnes and Nobles in the USA. We will start it with a 2,000 issue run. If things go well each month, we will double the run each month and continue to build exposure.

Right now our target locations are USA + Canada, but we will gladly ship anywhere internationally for a small additional shipping and handling fee.

This magazine will change the way people look at Bitcoin in the media. It will represent us to the outside world. When people go browsing the magazine section, they will grab this magazine and open it up to see what Bitcoin is all about.

This is where it begins people. You can help us do it right by doing two things:

1) Buy an issue -- we don't turn a profit. We need as many issues out the door as possible to ensure that the next month will be as fruitful. This is how the magazine world works. Tell your friends. Tweet about it. Write a blog article about it.

2) One of the biggest complaints Bitcoiners have so far is that they are being misrepresented in the media-- well, here's your chance to make it right! Help us, help everyone. If there is something you feel we should be doing differently, tell us-- we'll listen. Our lifeblood is the interest of our readers. Speak loudly and clearly.

All it takes is 1 Bitcoin and you can have your print issue shipped to your door, a collectors item and a piece of Bitcoin history.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd add my own TA with an animated graph of MtGox prices and the benny hill music...

I'd watch that for at least a few seconds.
5483  Economy / Economics / Re: Tradehill hacked? on: January 24, 2012, 09:44:31 PM
It wasn't a hack, someone from TH staff just typed in that info.

That was my first guess as well. Seems like an internal reminder that should never have been published. Shit happens.
5484  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Do you own a bitcoin business? If so... on: January 24, 2012, 07:29:39 PM
Another full-page slot sold. Only 3 remaining and then we will focus on the half and third-pages.

Keep in mind, this magazine will be sold all across the world, but in the US, primarily aimed towards Barnes and Nobles and other bookstores.

Speaking as someone who has been standing beside Zhou from day 2, watching it grow, hearing about all the issues and how they were being fixed (stuff that most people don't know about still) and discussing all the legal, business, marketing, partnerships, etc, it really annoys me to see people so ignorant as OP try to downplay all the work that's been put into Bitcoinica.

Your lack of understanding is not Zhou's problem.

Do the world a favor and start putting question marks at the end of your drivel.
5487  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: I need a new exchange to use! on: January 24, 2012, 01:14:53 PM

5488  Economy / Economics / Re: I need help finding a bank, please read. on: January 24, 2012, 10:39:55 AM
Hi. I'm less than 18 years old.

I'm in Miami, so the bank need to have a branch around here.

Would you perhaps be that scamming teenager from Florida that ripped people off in the Marketplace and on IRC?

I'm shocked that you don't find the OP credible Matthew.  Shocked, I tells you!

Me loves some drama. Trolololol.
5489  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitscalper anyone use this ? on: January 24, 2012, 09:14:19 AM
Remember proper arbitrage happens in realtime and most of the within a few seconds if not less than a second. You dont buy 1BTC at exchange 1 and then wait minutes or hours so that exchange 2 price is higher and then sell at exchange 2. The arbitrage price difference must be available in realtime and executed near realtime.

You can't transfer $ instantly between exchanges.  So how can this work?

You can't transfer $ instantly without BitInstant you mean?
5490  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MtGox account with $220 blocked for more than six weeks without explanation on: January 24, 2012, 07:35:22 AM
After a conversation in IRC, I was essentially told by magicaltux that they believe the Dwolla account that funded the account is likely hacked/compromised and that they are anticipating a chargeback on the funds.

I'm pretty sure everyone else assumed so as well. That doesn't explain why sending the money back to Dwolla wouldn't have been much better than just holding it for their own benefit.

If someone hands me a credit card and I believe it to be stolen, I still have to give it back. I can however inform the police and the credit card company. I'd just refund the money, report it to Dwolla, and move on.

He indicated a fear that if he did so, that that wouldn't absolve him of the chargeback liability.  As though he would be sending them $220 of "new money" and still be liable for the original money received.  Seems odd that Dwolla wouldn't have a refund button, such a basic feature.  Dwolla's side of the story (as presented to the OP) would be interesting.

Bureaucracy at its finest.

I still want to see someone come out with a debit card that literally works exactly the same as a current debit card would, except it withdraws BTC from your account equal to the USD you spend.

OKPAY already does that.

Finished another advertisement for one of the clients in the magazine. Showing it here for other businesses to understand the level of quality we're working towards.

5496  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Wanted: Your questions! on: January 24, 2012, 02:53:04 AM
If Bitcoin becomes widely adopted, thereby increasing demand and price, will hoarding be an issue?  What solutions are available to mitigate the effects of hoarding?

If Bitcoin becomes the globally accepted form of currency, what good reason is there to believe that there won't be a huge disparity in wealth between the rich and poor, and what good reason is there to believe that the rich won't find ways to centralize Bitcoin?

The first question is slightly similar to a previous question already seen, but I think it's adaptable. The second question is a great question. I'll PM you regarding your free issue.

Thanks!

Tell us about all that BIP 17 BIP16 and so on shit, what is that about why is it important, i realy would like a summery abot that!!

Excellent question. I'll put that in the "Mineshaft" questions area, as that is specifically a mining-oriented question. I'll PM you regarding your free issue.

Thanks!

What is currently the most frictionless way to move from USD to BTC and vice versa?  Could help a newbie who doesn't want to mine and its afraid of Dwolla or other currencies from Iowa  Grin

Very good question. I'll PM you regarding your free issue. Thanks!

We're now down to only 4 full-page slots and I'm pretty confident they will be gone by tomorrow.
