I thought the server has a good anti-ddos service as it's hosted by MTGox's servers?

Looks like the problem was from within:

I see that PayPal now has a reloadable debit card that is reloaded with cash through any Neteller (at 7-11, for instance) agent location.

Would BTC-Pak consider selling these reload amounts?

If something big went down, you can know (after the fact) looking at BitcoinDays destroyed:

If you want to see the most important trendline (in my opinion), the number of transactions per day (excluding top addresses):

And an aggregation of content:

Here's another story reporting a similar problem:

And this exact scenario was the basis for this post:

Quote
Specifically, here is the challenge.  Consider the scenario that your bank is no better than RBS and for the next seven days (at least) you and a good third of everyone around you will be denied access to your bank account — no checking, no ATM, no debit card, no online bill pay, and no wire transfers.  Except for this scenario you happen to be exceptionally prescient and know that you have a few hours before this actually happens.

Do you, at this very moment, have several thousands of dollars of “available funds” at your bank?  Does your bank serve requests for larger cash withdrawals or will they take the opportunity to educate you on some policy that they have instituted where even a $2,500 USD withdrawal request will not be honored in full?

Do you know for sure?  Have you ever tried?

If you can't find a counterparty here, AurumXChange does this type of trade:

5586  Other / Meta / Re: Lock old user accounts on: June 29, 2012, 10:14:29 PM
It looks like quite a few members here got scammed by people who managed to get access to abandoned accounts, most likely because they used the same password on multiple sites.

If only there was some authentication method that could be used when doing over the counter trading like this.   Cheesy

Apparently, PayPal is not blocking this use (as a cash-out only service).

Three providers of this:

The best rates though, however, are still found on the #bitcoin-otc marketplace, where you can find those with a good trust history in the #bitcoin-otc Web of Trust (WoT), who pay 1:1 at market exchange rate (or better) to buy your bitcoins.

Nah-hah... screw that. Let them start accepting Bitcoin. All it takes is the slightest bit of spine. I for one would much rather donate my money to someone willing to accept BTC than to someone not willing.

Seriously, they aren't saying they don't know how, or that they don't see the return for the effort, or any other reason that might have a tinge of logic behind it, ... they are saying they don't want Bitcoin.  [And, by saying that, they are saying they don't want to promote Bitcoin or the idea that Bitcoin works as a payment system for donations.]

They are playing politics is all it is.
5591  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] btctip.com- send bitcoins with a tweet on: June 29, 2012, 05:35:39 PM
There's a problem where if I'm retweeting, that doesn't mean I want to send payment too!

Here using @BitcoinNews I clicked the Retweet:

And BTCTip interpreted that as a request to tip.

If I had sufficient funds in that account, they would have been taken and sent out as a tip.

That's probably not desired behavior. I believe the Twitter API allows you to know that what you saw is a native retweet and for BTCTip to ignore those.

In October in San Diego is Libertopia 12 (October 11-14, 2012).

Are there any other gatherings or clusters of Bitcoiners?

I also see in Las Vegas, July 11-14, 2012:

Freedom Fest
 - http://freedomfest.com/keynote-speakers/
 - http://freedomfest.com/all-other-speakers/

Looks generally focused on banking, investment and politics.

Some interesting presenters, including:
 - Tom Woods (@ThomasEWoods)
 - Jeff Berwick (@DollarVigilante)
 - Bob Prechter (@RobertPrechter) (Elliot Wave theory creator)

Then in August in Florida right before the RNC are two Libertarian events:

On August  24, 25 and 26, 2012 at the Fairgrounds in Tampa:

Also on Augh 24-26 in Polk County (near Tampa):

And I almost forgot, ... there's probably a few Bitcoiners that are gonig to be at Burning Man:

5593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cell phone plans on: June 29, 2012, 01:23:08 AM
Are there any cell phone plans out there where you can pay with Bitcoins?

If not, would anyone be interested in such a plan?

All anonymous, you buy the phone yourself then get turned on to the cell phone plan paying with Bitcoins.

For Prepaid wireless:

BTCBuy.info
 - http://btcbuy.info/CallingCards.cshtml

Tangible Cryptography / CellCoin
 - http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=82924  (Prepaid and real-time reload (RTR) )

And coming someday, BitcoinWireless
 - http://signup.bitcoinwireless.com

Tangible's will be for post-paid (subscription) plans when they start offering bill payment capability.
5594  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: FastCash4Bitcoins: Sell your BTC and get paid cash today. 8 different options. on: June 29, 2012, 01:00:19 AM
For those waiting on MP; I am fulfilling the orders now.   I was delayed because all the local 7-11 pulled MoneyPaks from their stores.  Not sure if it is a contract dispute or what.  They had no cards on the shelves at the first 7-11 so I thought they had just sold out.  The second 7-11 had cards but they wouldn't ring up and then one cashiers said to the other "I told you we were suppose to take all the greendots down".

I wonder if 7-11 will only be doing Netspend refills now ... for refilling PayPal prepaid cards, for instance.

5595  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: USD to BTC on: June 29, 2012, 12:53:00 AM
I was wondering what's the best/easiest way to convert USD to BTC?

Depends on a number of factors.  Where are you (country) ... urban or rural?  How much are you looking to buy?  What's more important, price or how fast before you can get the BTCs?  Is privacy a factor?

Most options are listed here:

5597  Economy / Securities / Re: Can someone explain 2 factor auth to me? on: June 29, 2012, 12:06:33 AM
Are you trying to withdraw and then get the error message:  "Your authentication code is incorrect, please try again"?

Yes

Ok, hmm ... and you don't remember setting it up.  So ..., that probably means you signed up back when GLBSE had a bug and was automatically marking accounts with multifactor.  I think e-mail to GBLSE ( support@glbse.com ) is the only way to get multifactor removed (without already having scanned your QR code into Google Authenticator).
5598  Economy / Securities / Re: Can someone explain 2 factor auth to me? on: June 29, 2012, 12:01:29 AM
Is your problem logging in or withdrawing?

As far as two factor auth, when you set it up in GLBSE, then from your mobile you scan a QR code that contains a secret.  The Google Authenticator app will use that secret in the future.

At a later point in time, you will be asked for an auth code.  That auth code changes periodically, like once a minute.  Google Authenticator is an app that creates these codes, based on that secret that you scanned earlier.

This is the first time I have ever tried to withdraw.

It tells me I have 2 factor thing set up, but I didn't do anything like that when I set up my account.

Please try to be a little more specific.

Are you trying to withdraw and then get the error message:  "Your authentication code is incorrect, please try again"?

It is almost like ... Forbes wants to have it publicly known that they (and they alone among their peers) had the foresight to recognize Bitcoin as being "a big deal" and as a result gave it more than its share of real estate in their online and print publications?

Or ... they just like bloggers on the edge who drive traffic:
