draw towards you till it gets to your desired price level. It make take some practise and patience but i'm sure it will work.

Nice to wake up to three pages of unread posts and a still rising Dash price. There could be some profit taking around the corner no doubt but its looking good so far.
I just want to thank the trolls in here (you all know who you are) for bumping our thread up so much, we all really appreciate it.
I also want to thank the bitcointalk forum for having had the foresight to implement the ignore option which as we can all agree turned into a priceless feuture.

looks like we are rising again price-wise, hopefully another little breakout is forming like our previous one.

There was a major consolidation during the last 4-hour correction which lasted days and completed a few hours ago without even breaching support at 0.0125. There's now substantial new support at the 13 level and no significant resistance till 14 or 15.

Looks like the market has put in a new base.

if i had to deal with a dashing young upcoming competitor that has created a solid base framework, already has a very very strong netwerk and which seems increasingly focussed on spreading their name and influence i would call it snake oil too .... all is fair in the war between competitors they say.

Can that same renamed wallet, say called Tantes.iou be used live?  Or is that just for saving somewhere before you rename it to wallet.dat again?

I believe the command line is added when you start the QT wallet.  So it would be used live.

Wow, that is cool!  Can Bitcoin do this also?  Anyone else?

If you happen to know where the tutorial is, I'd sure love to do this.  (I'll search later if not, LOL - thanks!)

I dont know a specific tutorial, its just one of the command line options that we took over while integrating bitcoin i think.
On a windows system you just add -wallet=yrspecificfilename in the shortcut (where you normally also add -datadir= and other command line options)
and then rename the wallet.dat to the filename you choose in the shortcut.

There is one condition : the renamed wallet.dat file needs to be in the same directory as where the wallet.dat normally would be
(it doesnt work when you place it outside that directory). And make sure you do all this before running the wallet, not during an active running wallet !

edit : and as mentioned before the .dat extension is not necessary with the renaming of the file, it does not need any extension. The name in shortcut and the actual renamed wallet.dat file just have to match name.

note : if they mismatch the wallet will assume a wallet.dat does not exist yet and will create a new wallet.dat, so make sure they are matched as name
you can also keep a new (empty) wallet.dat as decoy for possible spyware Grin
5589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW, Darksend and InstantX on: July 14, 2015, 06:35:03 PM
third, with commandline -wallet=XXXX you can rename your wallet.dat to something else, the .dat file extension isnt even necessary in that case.
This will make things more difficult for accidentally installed spyware..
Good tip! Today I've read that even #HackingTeam has such a spytool
http://arstechnica.com/security/2015/07/hacking-team-broke-bitcoin-secrecy-by-targeting-crucial-wallet-file/

First response is obvious.  Add passphrase.  This has nothing to do with what I am saying.  I'm not asking to keep them safe, I am asking for my history to be safe.

Second point is also obvious.   Encrypt the file and delete it, then unencrypt it before loading up wallet.    This is also not ideal.

So far this appears to be the best option out of the 3 you stated.   (don't use the file name WALLET.DAT).  This will help if u get infected and someone is looking for the file but if someone confiscates your machine,  finding the wallet file would be very easy.  Especially if u have it linked via a shortcut.

I appreciate your responses,  I still feel that the QT wallet should do this for you.   Once you encrypt the file,  don't allow the file to be read by the QT wallet unless key phrase is entered.    Exposing all the public keys and transaction history without any native projection is silly from my POV.

I'm really not asking much...   Smiley

Well, i think we still have this one somewhere in the planning (in the longterm planning i think) : https://dashtalk.org/threads/feature-2-factor-authentication.3176/

Given the nature of DASH.   Can we please move away from a wallet.dat file that can be opened without password?    Would be nice if the file was encrypted so if it was found on your computer or someone was able to grab it they couldn't see all of your transaction history.

First, if you encrypt your wallet with a pass phrase, nobody will be able to access your coins.  Second, all you have to do to keep anyone from actually opening the wallet.dat file is use a compressor, such as 7zip, that has the ability to encrypt the file.  Then you'll need that pass phrase to unzip it.

third, with commandline -wallet=XXXX you can rename your wallet.dat to something else, the .dat file extension isnt even necessary in that case.
This will make things more difficult for accidentally installed spyware..

seems someone got a bit lost in the altcoin discussion section so i'm posting his post here :

if you know the answer be a good samaritan and reply to his post .. thanks

i just adjusted my forum profile so i dont get any emails about pm's and have them also all on ignore,
as these private messages are mostly about  deleted posts which for me turned into spam, nothing more and nothing less.
Seems to work well so far and is much better for my bloodpressure  Grin

God i'm glad the forum profile allows us to disable getting emails upon receiving PM's, some of these PM's are becoming nothing less then
spam these days, now if only i had a spam folder they would end up in automatically.

Edit : cool, this forum has a PM ignorelist in profile. Bye Bye spam PM's.
If anyone needs to contact me privately they can use the dashtalk forum.

Thanks for the update.  Here is to attracting more developers for our fast growing Dash project and here is also to
reaching many more new users in the coming years and raising the public awareness of Dash out in the world.

most ''Dash bag holders'' are getting revenues from running masternodes .. tbh its rather profitable too.
5599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash, most viewed thread .. less talked about thread, why ? on: July 11, 2015, 03:57:16 AM
pls discuss !!

it's scamming start has been talked about quite a bit.... where have you been?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=560138.0

here check it out.

so the scamming part keeps it from being discussed in the altcoin section ?

not really, the coin is discussed in the alt coin section as much if not more than most other coins. The scam part often comes up during such discussions though.

look through just the last 24 hours i see many threads related to dark/dash xcoin.

pls point me to a post thats related specifically to Dash in the last 24 hrs.. and remember we are talking about a coin that rank 4th on coinmarket : http://coinmarketcap.com/

well in the last 24hrs they have been on the first page here anyway being discussed....where are the doge, ripple etc?

You're all over the dash thread.... you're a hero member and asking such questions here only now?

Show some concern for ripple and doge? start asking where their threads are on the alt section. PPC ? stellar? all the other top 10?

However, you're correct. Dash can always do with some new discussion.

Let's start with these points.

Let's take a look at the first 5 h of Darkcoin (XCoin at that time)...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4589219#msg4589219
Edufield said (after failed launch) that he will wait the next day to launch DRK (XCoin at that time) it is 11 pm.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4591407#msg4591407
Edufield disregard windows wallet and daemon and hurry up his launch, presumably to not have windows miners on board.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4592827#msg4592827
Edufield say he added four nodes for the launch at 4 am (5 hours later, despite his promise to wait). The 4 nodes from Edufield are 3 amazons AWS + another unknown (whois IP). Launch started at 3h54 am.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4593601#msg4593601
Edufield said the github version was not updated, nobody could compile and only Edufield was able to mine until that time. It is 5.09 am and Edufield instamined alone 1153 block at 500 DRK + 60 block at reward 277 = 593120 DRK for him alone in about 1 hour.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4593987#msg4593987
No windows wallet confirmed at 5h47 am, despite a user attempt to make one avaiable, that Edufield dismissed quickly.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4594096#msg4594096
Illodin, understand dev has instamined alot of coin.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4595573#msg4595573
From this list of nodes, at 8h34 am (4h40 after launch) there were 50 Amazon AWS node and 50 microsoft cloud computing instamining DRK (checked using IP whois service). This is 100/124 nodes using cloud computing to instamine DRK. We are at block 2870 and block reward is 500. From block 1153-1729 block reward is 277. After that it is 500 again hence 2294 block at 500 + 576 at 277 = 1306552 DRK (worth about 13M$ now) were instamined in less than 5 hour by Edufield and coworkers using about 100 cloud mining instances. Edufield himself instamined in not even 5 h from 600K to 1169K DRK ((1306K-600K)*100/124 + 600K) depending how many of the 100 cloud mining instance were its own. All this while having purposefully set the difficult ridiculously low and block reward 100 times what it is now.

From 6M$ - 13M$ in 5 h, Edufield did some lucrative work here!

Edufield is nominee for the Master Scammer 2014 award!

thanks for your information, however you neglect to mention that Evan Eduffield has also won the award of proof of honor

http://www.newsbtc.com/2015/01/11/darkcoin-dev-evan-duffield-wins-proof-honor-award/

so i ask again : why is this coin so much less discussed in this altcoin section then virtually any other coin ?

lol so let's get this straight.

1. you're all over the dash thread ( dash shill)

2. you're a hero member and just decide to ask today why there is not enough dash threads on the alt section?  a typical dash shill attempt at getting some attention under the guise of an innocent question.

3. it is explain to you that there are plenty of dash thread on the alt section ... more than enough considering it's a proven scam.

4. I present the evidence for you of the scam. It is there in black and white. It's a scam.

5. You're now trying to defend the scam by referencing some tiny poll voted on by basically nobody.

Let me try and explain it again to you even though you already know the answer.

There are less dash threads here than you would like to see because a lot of people here are fully aware of the scam that dash is. So the dash shills mostly don't bother trying to spam their coin here that often because they get the evidence of the scam a served up to them again along with anyone else reading the thread.

thats your opinion and you are perfectly entitled to your own opinion, however i would like to hear some more opinions with a bit more motivation then Dash being nothing more then an ordinary scam coin..

edit : i have to catch some sleep so that ends my contribute for today to this thread..
5600  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash, most viewed thread .. less talked about thread, why ? on: July 11, 2015, 03:52:01 AM

* jwinterm points at this very thread discussing the scam known at various points in history as xcoin/darkcoin/dashcoin.

nice try but i cant see any real evidence of Dash being discussed as much as if not more than most coins in the last 24 hours .. so far i found one single post.
for a coin that ranks 4th .. i wonder why ?

maybe because it's a scamalicious piece of dashtrash with the price propped up by the masternode operators now collecting interest on the ~50% of current coin supply that they instamined...mebbe?

incorrect, its 47 % .. where did you get that 50% information ?

Tilde (~) means approximately, fyi. I think 3% difference falls within "approximately".

okay, so what exactly is wrong with having a network of almost 2800 masternodes earning 47% Mn payment per block while keeping
the network strong and keeping it attractive to invest in ?

You misunderstood what I meant - I meant that 50% of the currently available coin supply was instamined in the first 24-48 hours, and now those ill-gotten coins are being used to run masternodes and collect "interest", i.e. get more free coins without even mining.

okay, thats clear and has never been denied, Dash had a instamine problem in the first 24-48 hrs due to difficulty readjustment. Which represents approximately 10-15% of the total money supply that will ever be issued. That doesnt explain why this coin that ranks 4th is so little discussed in this altcoin section.

pls discuss
