A forum thread posed the "snack machine problem" to the BTC community way back in 2010, and the earnest suggestions about the perceived issues were (sorry, still laughing). See for yourself, but be nice if you post there - they were doing their best, and I mean them no ill-will:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=423.0

The thread was necro, but Lukas_Jackson revived it to mention the DASH soda-machine breakthrough. The next poster grumped that the machine only used DASH and not BTC. Woot!

Human nature is the enemy of us all. We mustn't be blind to our own flaws (says he, suppressing another chuckle).

I was checking that thread after I posted few days ago and just came back from there and I see your post  Shocked WTF  Huh
 Grin
Lucas_Jackson, thanks linking to dashndrink.com on that discussion.  It was the perfect passive way to promote Dash.  The comment "Can InstantX be used with Bitcoin?" was humorous.

Thanks for the link.  We actually received this comment a lot. "Hey, if you accepted bitcoin you could sell a lot more soda."

My response was, "Yeah, but we didn't want set up an SMS server and put people in queues waiting for a text message when their transaction was confirmed in a block around 10 minutes later."

Responses to that:
But 0 confirm = double spend - Then we add 10% to our cost pay for double spends
But lighting = high fee (I would guess $.25.  Add 30% to the cost of the soda)

...has anyone tried running a Masternode off of a smartphone?  I have a Samsung Note 3 and Note 2 and a couple of high end tablets.... I mean most of these new smartphones/tablets are pretty powerful.  I have them sitting around doing nothing.  thoughts?

Bad idea.

First, masternodes secure the network by having 100% uptime.  While theoretically possible to run the daemon it will hurt the network when it periodically goes offline.  We are building a reliable network that should have nodes in professional data centers, not phones or even home networks.

Second, if your node goes dark for 70 minutes (I think), you will move to the back of the payment queue and start the cycle over again.
Smartphones are pretty expensive for a server, even if they were better.  You can run a node on a PI (similar ARM chips as in phones) but the internet service needs to be reliable and a datacenter can do that better and usually with cheaper IP addresses.

I would like to see a backup IP address option.  So when your node goes offline it can fallback to a second IP running a redundant node and stay online.  Similar to websites that link to more than one IP so they can stay online even with high traffic or maintenance.

I am amazed at how well-done and attention-grabbing the soda machine project is. The best part is that the machine can be reused and so can the Dash:
1) Hand a conference-goer a paper wallet with 0.4 Dash on it
2) Have them scan the funds to their phone
3) They spend the money in our soda machine
4) Use the Dash collected to print more wallets for the next conference

The only thing we'd need to fund on an ongoing basis is the soda! If only we could move the soda machine easily.

When we open our first Dash offices, we need to make sure we have a Lamaseu ATM and a Dash soda machine in the lobby of the building!

The wallets will have .25 dash -- soda's will cost .19 (plus 0.01 ix fee) to make an even .2 per soda. Leaving each person with .05 dash in hand.

--

I'll have to get with Lamassu to help them get InstantX on their ATM's -- another win! Smiley

Oooh yah, instant withdrawal of cash for Dash would be very nice (especially for tourists)   And those paper wallet give-aways sound a lot more realistic from the numbers I've heard bandied about.  I wonder how many wallets you're able to make?  And how many people are expected to be there?
I printed about 600 wallets.  (Don't worry about the TSA confiscating, they won't get funded until the day of the show.)

TheDashMan made a nice backgournd for them too.  Thanks TDM.

So on to more important business at hand... Is the voting open for the new proposal?

I think we already passed the 2MB block proposal.  Sweet, we did that in a day!

1808/3 votes yes/no per Dashwhale.org
About 3500 masternodes * 33% that need to be yes = 1155 to pass.

1805 > 1155 Looks like it is going through.

We have 2MB blocks(after research and code is approved) for Dash's 2nd birthday.

the transaction (the send) actually occurs on 0:08 and the blink at 0:10 (and a half) is the IX confirm. Smiley

By the way, I like that confirmation blink, is that a regular feature for a vending machine?  Or did you add it?  Cheesy

That blink was added as part of the Dash Customization Process(DCP).  We did it to make the transactions more obvious and bring attention.  The loud INSTANTX voice and tornado siren was dismissed unfortunately.

Regarding the post asking for wallets....

We have all flavors with IX.

Iphone - now with IX.  I don't do Apple, so would appreciate any feedback.  There will be a revision on this tomorrow to fix a bug.

We tested the android walllets and they work, but there could be issues with specific phones.

Android - FullTimeGeek - This will be the fast wallet for the show.  It can scan paperwallets in seconds.
https://github.com/fulltimegeek/Dash-Wallet
www.dashndrink.com/dwftg.apk

Android - HashFastEngineering - This is the existing android wallet with updates for IX.  It should be on Google in a day or two.  You can install over your existing wallet and it should keep your dash.

FullTimeGeek, HashEngineering, and QuantumExplorer have put in a lot of effort here.  Thanks for the effort!

$4.16 on Livecoin. $1.3M volume on coimarketcap. I would say our sleeping giant has finally awoken.

...and has assumed the form of a white soda machine.

ROFL , I never thought that dashnet would become self-aware via the vending machine route.

We have plans to use Wifi in our next project called Cyberdyne.....don't worry it has nothing to do with Skynet.

Because hosting a masternode can be profitable only if you buy at the bottom and then sell higher.
Not true.  Masternodes earn a fixed amount of coins every month.  Depending on your hosting cost a masternode should be able to make a positive return even if dash loses 8% each year.

There will be more masternodes at higher dash prices because the hosting fees are less of the value of the dash earned each month and longer waits between payouts are acceptable.  If the Dash price goes down, the masternode count will fall until the payout time is short enough to be profitable again.  To compliment this this there will also be market sellers at the highs and buyers at the lows.  A masternode owner could actually choose either strategy.

Would anyone be interested in a budget proposal that is actually a non-binding resolution that Mike Hearn is a great guy and sends like 1 dash to a burn address or some donation address? It is another a cool thing we could use the budget system for.
No, but I probably would vote for a proposal Mike Hearn submits to add a new Dash feature for X amount of Dash.

If you want to burn a Dash for him.  There is a Dash address below.  I will take care of the burning for you.  Honest.  Smiley

Bitcoin.com can really put out some good articles!

And to include a back to back media post for Dash.  Amanda lays out some Bitcoin drawbacks pretty thick, and then brings up Dash with a few solutions.

Waiting ~22min (or more) to withdraw some BTC? Well, now you know why Dash is the future:

https://youtu.be/Lqyuit570A8?t=620

Look at Amanda with BTC vending  machine:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3lClVS9VyI

I wonder how is it possible to spend such fresh unconfirmed bitcoins? Video-tricks? Smiley or extensive vending risk?

just saw that too
- how do you spend them so fast coming out of a ATM
- how do these vending machines work then
0 confirmations i guess ?!
Here are a few bullet points.  Of course, we need to know our competition.

  • Check out 1:19.  A mysterious frame skip.  I suspect that was a bitcoin block time warp, but not necessarily.
  • The purchase was 0 confirmation.  Maybe Peter Todd can demonstrate his point again and fill his belly with some double spend snacks.
  • I would estimate the ATM and 2 BTC transaction fees to get that $1 into the machine is about $0.35....sorry doesn't sound as cool now does it?
  • They certainly don't have Moocowmoo coding that machine.  What they are trying to do with Bitcoin in 8 seconds, Moocowmoo is able to do much more with Dash in less than a second.

Solar, you should have some water at that list, plain water
Water is a hard sell when you have the top voted beverages just a slot or two away.

Seriously, we can only put cans in.  Water is only sold in bottles from what I have found.

I don't care about Coke, I do the Dew! I'll have to add to its numbers a bit....

Thanks.  Oops, Tungfa is in for Coke.  We will see if there is some retaliation.

Yeah the TheDashGuy did a fantastic job!  Raptor73 also helped with that cool 3d image.  There are a few corrections I need to make on the text, which I will take care of in the next day or two.

We are making progress.  All the screens work, IX TX work, relays trigger.  We(as in Moocowmoo coding fixes and I supporting the best I can) are now focusing on running over 24 hours without a bug.  Camosoul is hard at work sanding and painting.  Hopefully, some android wallet changes will be announced soon.  Good stuff happening here.
How is the soda voting going? Or is that over now?
Soda Voting Results for the InstantX Vending Machine as of Today:
TAO, not good for coke, look at rootbeer.
We have a big entry for 7up with a 3.71 dash donation.  Thank you.

I'll put one more online tonight or tomorrow.
And I will try a new VPS service (19$/year). There was an option at 14 but took the $19 for my MN to be more confortable  Cool

I highly recommend these folks.  Their currently doing $12/year.  Zero downtime.

https://my.hostus.us/cart.php?a=confproduct&i=0

Tks I'll try them for the next MN, as I already paid the $19 for this one Smiley
These guys do not have 24hr support.  They also have everything expire at midnight....and then they are not awake for 8 hours to fix an "oops".  Be careful if you have a server with extra IPs, whenever anything expires(or you don't want to renew) they will shutdown your entire server until they fix the "oops".  As for downtime, they had an internet connection(server was still up) out for an hour in the last 6 months, not too bad.  The support guy is Andrew Clarke...I shouldn't know that right?  LOL.
