5601  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-01-21] Coinbase Exec Predicts Bitcoin Will Turn A Big Corner This Year on: January 21, 2019, 05:28:33 PM
As long as people retain the option to ignore the conventional services, and there's absolutely no way of stopping them anyway, then it's got to happen for it to progress deeper into everyday life. The probing that exchanges throw up is way more outlandish than most traditional services. Hopefully proper regulation will stop them from pulling the shit places like Bitstamp do.

That corner being more regulation.

I can see where they're coming from regarding traditional finance types. No way will most experiment until there's a guarantee in place they won't have their botties spanked. I guess they want to keep their fines fund just for their conventional crimes.
5603  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-01-18]Daily bitcoin transactions on darknet markets doubled on: January 21, 2019, 03:24:29 AM
according to a study by data firm Chainalysis.

Some of those users might have only little understanding on cryptocoin privacy. I reckon they do not know how much danger they have placed themselves and their families in by using bitcoin for darknet transactions.

Pah. They'll be fine. It's just a bit of speed or MDMA or whatever.

If junior is shifting industrial quantities of heroin to his customers without applying diligence that's a different matter
5604  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do any of you feel guilty? on: January 21, 2019, 02:12:36 AM
I know perfectly well how weak and useless most people are when it comes to monetary matters. No way would I suggest it to anybody and a few have been talked out of it.

I knew the bubble was over when my mate called me up and asked whether he should buy 3 dollar Ripple and a load of Doge. I went straight over and deprogrammed him.

It's a much better despair without falllling trolling us. Last time we had to endure his cut your loose spam.

But then he infiltrated us again using the name riiiising.

That is some three letter agency psyops right there.
5606  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-01-18]Daily bitcoin transactions on darknet markets doubled on: January 21, 2019, 12:50:40 AM
Interesting how little we hear about these markets but plenty must be ticking away. Now r/DarkNetMarkets is gone, is there anywhere else vaguely public to go and be nosy about them?
5607  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance and centralization on: January 20, 2019, 09:12:07 PM
I'm a bit more skeptical about their entry into fiat trading. Their fees seem ridiculous compared to competitors. Binance.je is charging 7 GBP/8 EUR for deposits, 20 GBP/20 EUR for withdrawals and 0.1% trading commissions -- no maker/taker. Coinbase Pro charges 0 GBP/0.15 EUR for deposits, 1 GBP/0.15 EUR for withdrawals, 0% trading commission on maker orders and 0.1-0.3% on taker orders. It seems like a no-brainer, especially when you consider the size of the order books.

Yup. They're going nowhere with those costs. I guess we'll see how that develops.

USD is the biggie but if they start to dabble in that they're going to be in a whole new world of pain. Without that they're going to be big but not overwhelming. Even if they avoid USD at some point they'll be brought to heel regarding the KYC stuff. Japan already did it. I expect others to follow.
5608  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Snapshot of the Crypto Market: Where are all of the women? on: January 20, 2019, 07:37:47 PM
Sometimes women are more observant but male logic is higher than women. Here we play to get high logic and advanced technology so that with extensive knowledge to bring women into crypto and coding.

If you were logical you would wait for crypto to iron out all the shit it's stirred up and then start using it. Getting in at a very early stage is the opposite of logical. You're choosing to follow intuition and hope. It might look logical in retrospect if it's a success but so does everything else.

O the humanity.

I want to believe, but Max holds absolutely zero credibility with me.

He's a shrieky nob but he has been shilling it since it was a dollar.
5610  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Wirex - Scam again on: January 20, 2019, 12:15:55 PM
You can read in what I quote that Wirex is just working by UK financial services regulation, so there is something there which allows them to block accounts and seizure any assets without additional explanations. It is true that bad reviews start to shown recently, maybe something is changed from start of this year and now they have much stricter rules.

I see many old customers are blocked, and many waiting too long for any response - I just hope it is just bad support, and people will get their money back.

They're all screeching about password changes. I just checked and indeed one was forced on me too. The change went OK though.

I don't see how it can possibly be legal for someone to help themselves to your money without a court judgement of some sort. Their wording is weaselly so from now on I'm only going to use them for very small amounts.
5611  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Virtual Credit Card on: January 19, 2019, 10:18:36 PM
this list only benefits US citizens and EEA, it seems that the rest of the countries are part of another planet.

What became of Wagecan? They didn't care where you were.

They did charge something like $200 for a card and it took a week to load so there's no way I would ever use something like that. Their website doesn't refer to cards any more but their twitter alludes to ongoing card loads.
5612  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-01-19] Binance Sees Massive Uptake on: January 19, 2019, 10:12:34 PM
Considering the fees I find this hard to believe.

There are much cheaper EUR options and now Coinbase has GBP up and running there's not much reason to shop elsewhere for Brits either.

Good luck to 'em all the same but they're going to have to go some to compete.
5613  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Virtual Credit Card on: January 19, 2019, 08:49:13 PM
Examples of non-virtual ones? I can setup VPNs or find someone from a specific country, so location is not important.

You'll probably have to verify with all of them so VPNs won't be much use if you're somewhere awkward. A local could work.

Wirex for the EU. Coinbase and Bitpay for the US.

It makes a lot more sense if you have a local exchange to send to your normal banking if it has a debit card.

5614  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-01-17]Ripple says Confusion on Crypto related holding back Mass Adoption on: January 19, 2019, 08:35:57 PM
I am sure that many are also asking the same question if Ripple can be categorized as a cryptocurrency in the first place. This is an ongoing debate with both sides sure of their stand. Well, as with anything, only time can tell which side will eventually win this debate. But as for me, I am leaning on the side doubting if Ripple should have a space in the cryptocurrency industry...maybe they should be acting like the modern PayPal and many would agree.

Well, it looks like the decision was made long ago and enough people believe it should be involved in this market. It's not as if it's going to be evicted. I will never understand it all the same.

The securities question is the big one. I'm not sure when it's going to be cleared up or whether it's been cleared up. I was under the impression there's still an ongoing court case that may drag on for a long time to come. The longer it goes on for the more of the SEC's buddies make money and 'suggest' they avoid the security tag.
5615  Economy / Economics / Re: Just a friendly reminder.... on: January 19, 2019, 08:28:11 PM
As long as other people accept it for the things I require to stay alive it's absolutely fine with me.

If you need to preserve your wealth there are many options available beyond it. Hopefully crypto will become one of those go to choices for the many in time.
5616  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Using an offline designated MacBook as an offline wallet in 2019? Is it safe? on: January 19, 2019, 08:12:23 PM
I have a dedicated laptop for crypto fun. The first thing I did was take out the wifi card and bin it. With the possibility of going online gone completely it's much more relaxing fiddling with seeds, QR codes and more.

No way would I ever feel 100% comfortable using it in that capacity if there was any possibility of it hitting the internet again.

There are wallets that can sign transactions offline and broadcast with an online counterpart - http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/coldstorage.html
5617  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin balance vs fiat debt? on: January 19, 2019, 07:57:13 PM
Everyone has a different appetite for debt. Some don't blink in the slightest, others get eaten alive by it.

If it were me absolutely no way would I get rid of all my BTC to be debt free. But I would not have gotten into debt in the first place and I DEFINITELY would not part with the roof over my head and retain the debt for something like BTC.

If you could clear it all now and have enough earning power to buy back BTC then I'd consider it.

And this guy put the money from his house sale in BTC, no debt involved though - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=508254.0
5618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Snapshot of the Crypto Market: Where are all of the women? on: January 19, 2019, 07:41:35 PM
If you want a tl;dr, the article says that women have different interests than men, they don't choose careers in tech because they don't like it, not because they feel intimidated.

i think that's correct to an extent, but it's probably more complicated than that. for years, i've seen incessant complaints from women about the misogynist culture of silicon valley and the tech industry in general. i don't think it's fair to just write them off, especially as things like this become so prevalent. with crypto being a small subset of the tech industry, it seems prudent to at least acknowledge the possibility that it's more complex than "boys and girls like different things".

I think that's valid. It doesn't count for adoption though. No one cares who is buying, selling or using it and you never have to interact with anyone else while doing it.

Tech noodling and suicidal risk are much more prominent in the male psyche. That's how it's always been and always will be.
5619  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Virtual Credit Card on: January 19, 2019, 07:34:42 PM
Or maybe there is a service where you could send BTC and ask them to buy a specific item / service, like (now gone) all4btc?
TheBigCoin looks pretty legit. You can use Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero and Dash to buy anything you want (even a car apparently).

ANN: TheBigCoin - Pay with Bitcoin Anywhere Online & Anonymously!
URL: https://thebigcoin.io/

Those fees are shocking though I guess the market supports it.

Any crypto debit card is hard to come by these days, let alone virtual ones.

OP, where are you located? There might be some specific services for your part of the world.
5620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The reasons for Satoshi's anonymity? on: January 19, 2019, 07:32:03 PM
Staying anonymous and walking away is the second best thing he could possibly have done after creating it.

It doesn't matter if Big Brother created it. Big Brother has zero control over it. It's in the hands of its users.

And no one should give a shit what you think about it.
