Sadly, the only industries I can think of that readily desire bitcoin's inherent properties are the very industries that governments like to control or keep off the radar: Why would you want anything else ? If you ignore moral aspects, then those activities fullfill what you were claiming for. I don't use gold as an ornementation personnaly, and yet I own gold because I know some people love gold jewelery. You don't even need to ignore moral aspects since there is nothing wrong about pleasure.

If bitcoin is to compete with credit cards it has to be a lot faster than it is now. Waiting 10-30 minutes is out of the question for any payment processor.
The answer is simple imo. Trust 0/unc for small amounts unless it becomes a problem, keep credit on account if that doesn't work. For large amounts you have plenty of time, those fancy dildos don't need to ship until morning.

Mt Gox says the volume is about 2000 bitcoins. But bitcoinwatch says 115000 was sent the past 24 hrs. I wonder if this is a result of dark pools.
I think you misunderstand something. Mtgox trades show up in mtgox volume and not on the block chain. Bitcoinwatch tells us how many coins have been sent on the chain (and change as mentioned). Either can be bigger than the other with no contradiction.

That works great Seth, I can only do a small amount now, about $500, likely more in the new year.

And your great-great-great kids, which presumably be something on the order of 55 of them.
I think that's a compliment, but I'm not sure.

Interesting, there are three within 25 miles of me, so maybe I am one of those.

Very cool, are locations generally accurate? I'm not seeing myself, but I almost always have bitcoin open.

Please, don't keep spreading the word that Satoshi is from Japan. While I found a mention of somebody with his name graduating from a high school in New York (on Classmates.com), there is no reason to suspect that is even him either.
Also..... don't say "bitcoin.com", which is a completely different website based off of a completely different concept, but still is electronic currency or at least electronic money exchange. The confusion is something that I think the "bitcoin.org" community is going to need to confront eventually, but it generally is easy to distinguish between the two ideas.
Might be a good investment to try to pick it up from that company. I bet it'll be worth a lot more as a bitcoin wallet than whatever is going on there now. Googling "bitcoin.com" give bitcoin.org as the top hit, lol. I actually placed a backorder on the domain as of last week when I realised it expires soon. I didnt want to bring it up in case the owner googles it and sees the interest before it expires. If they renew it the other option is to setup a bounty to purchase it from the owner. I did this because I came across a forum where they were saying how crappy bitcoin was and they werent even talking about bitcoin.org I had to sign up and fix their assumptions based on the wrong domain. Oh, I hope you get it easily. I'm going to tell my grandkids all about how grandpa knew bitcoin was the new money and how I generated 9 blocks ON MY OWN back in 2010. But that's not nearly as cool as owning bitcoin.com.

I like it. About how much are they? Are they even for sale yet? I think I would pay $100, maybe more depending on details of durability and battery and such.

Next stop Erie, PA. He should arrive late Saturday and be available for a day or two.
what is your usd/btc rate? It depends on how far out of the way you are for my guy and how large you want. For >$500 10-15% over mtgox depending on my current stash size and my feelings about the volatility of the price at the time. Sorry to be vague, but it depends on a few variables. I only have 5000BTC for sale at this moment, but more soon. If someone is going to want the opposite trade send me a message and I'll try to arrange cash delivery. Depending on reputation I may want coins sent to me before I send a guy out loaded with paper money. I'd like to set up some relationships with generators and/or merchants. This will help me offer larger amounts and better rates. Also, if anyone happens to be on Oahu, send me a message.

How much business is this guy getting?
One successful trade so far.

Bosco, I've been listening to the show. I enjoy it. You should put an address on the donate page, I'll be the first.

I think the lottery analogy only helps if the person is hung up on figuring out why they aren't "getting closer" to finding a block.

We are all thinking about people keeping their coins on their own devices, but people may use web services too. If both customer and retailer use MyBitcoin for ex., transaction confirmation could be instantaneous. In the future probably there will be many sites like mybitcoin, and they will have ways to integrate their transfers. Mostly like the banking system, "only" without the central bank. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) It seems more likely to me that there will only be one site like mybitcoin. Though not necessarily mybitcoin. Like how there's only one paypal, wikipedia, facebook or google. Little sites shake out until only the most popular one is left. Visa, MC, AMEX?

I also think a promotor could better be a someone who is not from a minority group fom a marketing point of view and it should also be someone who picks the communication channels somewhat better.
It doesn't matter if someone is better everyone who wants to will promote. This isn't an election. Everyone is from some minority group anyway. I'm probably in 6. I think Bruce is doing great work.

Frott seem to think the success of bitcoin is inevitable or something.
Yes, but curiously the guaranteed riches do not seem to excite him.

anyway, i just take what i get. ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Of course it's his choice whether or not he releases the source. I am very interested, however, in knowing why he doesn't want to release it. This is the last I'm going to say about it in this thread though. We already have an alternative to this closed source cooperative mining service. It's fully open source, nothing's hidden. Anyone is free to look at and modify the code. Due to the way work is distributed, every client can verify they are getting their share before they start hashing. If the server crashes and burns immediately after a block is generated, you'll still get your share. Anyone can run a pool server. Please check it out and help make it better : Pooled/Remote MiningI do like the way you distribute coins. I was trying to get in the other pool though since it's bigger. But I'm too dumb to make jgarzik's work so i'm sticking with the little guy.

Frott, people who find out about bitcoin and start earning them 6 months from now are going to be early adopters from a wide perspective. If you think there is no risk being taken by amassing coins then you should be glad at this opportunity.
