Remember also there is the letter of the law and the practical law. How many of us record and calculate gains from a spring garage sale? I think I'm supposed to, but I don't. Or let's say you find a wedding ring while hiking in a park. You must claim the wealth you obtained from your treasure, but I bet very few do.
If you really want to be accurate you may find that you have very precise records from your bitcoin client, exchanges, and the blockchain. I was able to find almost every transaction I have done. That allows me to do "first in" accounting. Those first coins I bought for pennies are going to be taxed dearly. Over time that should reduce if the price stabilizes. Or I may have to pay more if the price climbs again. Either way I'm only paying on my profits.

What do you think the bitcoin foundation has been doing? This is why lobbying lawmakers is so important. Can you imagine what they would have come up with on their own?
I'd rather not get into what I think teh foundation has been doing... But I don't think this is the result of lobbying. I think it is the result of their internal study. The BTC foundation has about as much clout in Washington as does the Old Ladies with Too Many Cats Foundation... And I don't mean AARP! Are you aware of the efforts going on right now? With the addition of two new tier 1 lobbyists the BF has real clout. Your just out of the loop man. You can follow here. https://bitcoinfoundation.org/forum/index.php?/forum/16-regulatory-affairs/ @Holliday lol, that could also be all the drugs. At least that's what it turned out to be in my case.

I consider it super good news. There never was a chance of it not being taxed, so the question is which taxes apply and at what rate. The USD I work hard for are taxed as income at around 30%. My bitcoin gains, which mostly I earned while sitting on my ass are taxable at the lower capitol gains rate. even better, If I had a loss I could claim losses now. This is going to be big news for businesses sitting on the side lines. They have been waiting for a ruling that gives them some direction in implementing bitcoin.

So BTC is going to $5-$6 USD? Wana bet? Say $50? You state that this will happen in 6 moths to a year. How bout we time stamp it here and revive the thread in 1 year? If bitcoin is below $8 USD you win! (even giving you a buffer of like 30%+) If it is more, then you owe me; deal?

Obviously they are not using babies for heat. They are incinerating them as per legal requirements dealing with bodies. They surely also burn tumors, severed limbs, etc. Kinda gross, but not as shocking as it sounds.

Anybody who trades based on this nonsense will, and arguably should, lose their money. People who know about money know that even the very best Wall St. analysts rarely do better than random chance. What we see here is people guessing. Just guessing. If you have been here a while you know how this always turns out. I can't say the OP is wrong. But I can say that he and I do not know what the price is going to be.

i'm curious to how easy it is to double spends. is it something average joes can learn to do or does it take some college kid genius with glasses and shit to do it?
would it be safe to accept with 0 confirms with, lets say a $10k purschase as a company?
It's not easy. In fact, it's never been provabley be done in the wild. It's entirely theoretical. Listen to lord MoonShadow. If you read the news you would think bitcoin is "hacked" all the time. In fact it is trusting others that leads to theft by hacking. The protocol is very safe, unlike your credit card. P.S. I would wait for some confirmations if it was $10K.

Since bitcoin may be made illegal in some places, your also participating in a criminal enterprise.

CPU mining is a lost cause. It should cost you more for the electricity than you will make. Sorry
Ok , thanks, and can you guide me that which type of mining is better , and how much it could costs to buy the simple hardware for mining, This is what a bitcoin mine now looks like. You need one of these.

the funy thing is that they were relly inteligent few hundred years ago ...
It's true that Copernicus got his idea of the sun as the center from Najm al-Dīn al-Qazwīnī al-Kātibī, an Islamic scholar. It's not that some are smarter than others, just that some are more willing to accept the provable truth over their preconceived notions.

If an alt-coin, or even bitcoin, needs me to hold it's hand and protect it then it is not going to work anyway.

They are still having problems and I would not recommend using them until they have it sorted out. A friend emailed me this morning to say that his money order is now a month late. That's B.S. that a backlog does not explain. It takes an hour to fill one out and drop it at the post office. Do they expect us to believe that they have so many checks to write that they are a month behind? While we can see the low volume at their site? Looks like another exchange bites the dust.

As mentioned above, where you got that link is important. If you got it in an email or something that would be typical. But if you searched and this came up, or if you typed the normal address into the browser and it changed to this... You may have much bigger problems.

Funny how people believe in something so provably wrong. You can go in your back yard with a toy telescope and a calculator and prove the Earth revolves around the sun. It's like saying evolution is not really happening, despite us seeing it everywhere.

Reading these forums you would think the future is predictable, even though it has never happened in the past. Might I recommend to our prognosticators that you be a bit more cryptic in your answers? Take a lesson from Nostradamus. His predictions are still followed by the stupid to this day. How? By being unclear in his predictions. So instead of saying "The price will drop to $20 on April 1st.!!!!!" Try saying " With the flowers and showers comes a dragon who will un-lift the thrown of the sayers who's eyes will see the benefit." Now no matter what happens you can claim victory for a spot-on prediction. You may also want to write in an obscure language and send it to a bad translator. Here is what google translate can do to enhance your prediction by translating to Russian and back. "With flowers and showers comes the dragon that will not be thrown out of the elevator-Sayers Who's eyes will see the benefit." Now your prediction is complete.

Finally, got the paper wallets made & now am ready to send BTC to them. Just wanted to ask how long does it usually take before the transactions to them are confirmed?
Secondly, I have 2 BTC in one wallet but want to send each BTC to a separate paper wallet. If I send one, will the other one automatically go to a change address? I'm not that certain about how change addresses work.
Thanks again.
I assume you that before you created your paper wallet you created some receiving addresses. In that case just send BTC to the receiving address and you should have your first confirmation within 10 mins. You can check to see if the coins have transacted by searching at one of these sites: https://blockexplorer.com/http://blockchain.info/If you see your transaction there, you have completed your transaction and sent BTC to your cold wallet.

Hey, there is a new place in here in Madison Wisconsin that takes BTC. It's called Bandung restaurant and the food is really good. They also have a bar, and there was some crazy band playing traditional Asian instruments. Best of all the prices are low. My wife and I ate for $35. I had my weapon on, so that price is without alcoholic drinks. But we will certainly be back! Here is their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/bandungindonesianrestaurant

Why are people surprised that Russia is tyrannical about economic freedom? When have they done anything different since the czar? It's not like the oligarchs are into sharing.
I think it's very unfair to paint the people of russia as bad because they happen to be run by corrupt oligarchs who also control the media they see. If you watch Russian TV you would think the west is demonically plotting against the russian people. It's somewhat sad that they seem to have gone back to the days of believing what they are told by the state, just like China, North Korea, Iran etc... I do not blame the Russian people. They are just the same as people everywhere. I just find it interesting to see everybody forget their history. Suddenly China is a favored capitalist trading partner and Russia is just another European power. Why do we think that? In reality China cheats at every turn and Russia is practically a criminal empire.

I recommend ARMA. It is by far the best war simulator ever developed. It is used the world over to train troops and run sandbox missions. Battles may include vehicles, aircraft, artillery, ships, anything really; and the scale of the maps is beyond huge. It will be a lot different than counter strike. There is almost no running and gunning in this game, just as there is none in actual combat. If you run 100 meters, you will be out of breath and your shooting will reflect that. This really forces you to work together on missions. Check out this game play by a great ARMA 2 team, 15th. MEU. As you will see, the games are slow and methodical; and very tense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2ZR65m5XGk
