5662  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: June 05, 2012, 09:04:11 PM
Hi all, I'm looking for some advice - I have some more fiat to invest and I've been racking my brain on where to put it. I'm new to Bitcoin but I've been buying heavily for the last 2 months. I already have decent physical gold and silver stacks. Here are the choices I've narrowed it down to:

1) More Bitcoin (though I have to admit I am hesitant to let my Bitcoin investment get into 5 figures)

2) More physical gold (I'm leaning towards this right now)

3) Mining shares (you know, the ones that the people on KWN are always saying are going to the moon)

4) Managed forex account (I know 90% of them are just scams, but I was hoping there are a couple of legitimate ones out there that could return at least 10% a year. If anyone knows of any, please share.)

All opinions are greatly appreciated!

Invest some of your bitcoin on GLBSE, then you can buy more without breaching 10k.

I'm predicting this is a false swing. With Bitcoinica gone there's far less trading with leverage. The manipulators lost both their tools and funds when Bitcoinica went belly up. We won't be hitting 6 for awhile.

You seem to be assuming there were more bullish speculators than bearish speculators.

Governments can buy debt from eachother simultaneously and at will.

Some countries have debt/gdp ratio limits.
5665  Economy / Speculation / Re: are you all watching? on: June 03, 2012, 09:01:59 PM
if only.

i personally do not find it seductive to sell into 5.20 wall.
Will not support it either.

Yes looks like it's stuck at $5.20-5.27

Not going anywhere.  Might as well wait for the real price increase in December, since there is no reason for the price to really go up unless demand overtakes the daily inflation of bitcoin.

Forget about the effect of the December change from 50 BTC to 25 BTC as price predictor. This is already priced in as it is public knowledge.

It's also public knowledge that the price will reduce to 12.5 BTC, to 6.25 BTC, etc.  Would you say this is also priced in?

I would say that is priced in as much as the 50->25.  You either know the story or you don't.  The 50->25 may catch some by surprise since you don't have to understand these details to actually use bitcoin, but after a few halvings people will know what's up and it will be completely priced in by the time it happens.

5668  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA Rig Photos on: June 03, 2012, 03:06:34 AM
very interesting, the oil set up... with those temps it seems like a much moe effcient way to run a rig compared to air or standard liquid cooling. unless i'm missing something obvious.

Oil can absorb more heat then air but that's it. It may cool the rig for a day or so while the oil heats up. After that, the oil will not have any effect. I don't really know what this guy is thinking. He must think the oil traps the heat and then stores it in another dimension.

It wouldn't be hard to run some copper tubing in that space and run water through it and a radiator if there isn't enough surface area to disburse the heat.  Plus 6 FPGAs isn't a whole lot of power.

Another 26% increase in the ICE commercials' USD short position, on top of last week's 71.8% increase - that's more than double the dollar short positioning of the big boys from a scant two weeks ago; sheer madness. The dollar will retest and possibly breach the highly significant 72-73 level soon - later this year if not early 2013.

Or, they will be forced to cut their losses and it will rocket even higher.

Pffff, fine, I'll pick my money up.

I would have picked it up if I had been home earlier.  Care to drop it again?  Tongue

I should totally buy this and replace the fuel injectors on my 2 liter v4.

The center cannot hold.

A solid futures gaming explanation and analysis by TF. Technicals aren't worth a damn in this situation - reliability here lies only with the fundamentals. Also, some very interesting charts.

I finally understand... you base your analysis on charts from the future.
5674  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!!!!! on: June 01, 2012, 04:13:01 AM
N can be anything where N mod 3 = 0. The larger the number, the higher fractal degree you are dealing with.

For example 8 = fib(6), and 6 mod 3 = 0.

So we get:

5 steps forward, 3 steps back ( three times ), giving you 21 steps

then,
5 steps back, 3 steps forward, 5 steps back ( once ), giving you 13 steps

for a grand total of 34 steps

Thanks, although I can't seem to get the 21 to add up.  5 forward and 3 back is 8 steps.  If you repeat that 3 times, that's 24 steps.  Do you leave off the last 3 back to make it line up with what comes next (the 5 back, 3 forward, 5 back)?

Edit: oops.

Don't believe the depth chart.  Sometimes it's a trap.

I'm stating to think "fake walls" are a thing of the past

I'm starting to question your position, but I would welcome the outcome if you are right.

now I'm thinking bear trap,
5,20 REALLY wants to be sold into

It is likely he has more powder.  I imagine his reaction would depend on how it went down.

3 steps forward, 2 steps back. Repeat.

More like half a step forward, half a step back Sad

Or:
fib(n-1) steps forward, fib(n-2) steps back ( three times ), giving you fib(n+2) steps

then,
fib(n-1) steps back, fib(n-2) steps forward, fib(n-1) steps back ( once ), giving you fib(n+1) steps

for a grand total of fib(n+3) steps

then repeat the whole thing! Smiley

( cool random fact: corrective waves, impulse waves, and completed waves can be determined soley from the # of steps by doing inverse-fib and then modulating by 3 )

How is n determined?

Someone is seriously trying to keep the price from moving up and losing $100ks in the process. I fail to see the agenda. With such volume it is better to sell/buy marginally and have at least minimal profit to use later then trade at a loss trying to scare the market with stupid ask walls.

How do you know they're losing $100ks?

It's going up.... he just KNOWS it.

Even if we have highest historical December-like volume and all negative it is still not sufficient to push the price down enough to stop current upward momentum. I’m not saying that it cannot happen, just that it is highly unlikely. There is no point to swim against the current in such circumstances unless you can explain what is to gain from not selling less/higher.

Don't believe the depth chart.  Sometimes it's a trap.
5679  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin just a stupid game for bored nerds? on: June 01, 2012, 03:16:33 AM
so I assume they, like Ferrari engines, don't last long before needing expensive maintenance?

Right, except they have no expensive moving parts (only the fan) and not anywhere near as much heat.  As long as you keep your fan from accumulating too much dust and throwing a bearing, they should last at least a decade.  If the fan does go, most miners will shut themselves off.  As soon as you replace the fan for < $10 you'll be good to go again.
