5681  Other / Meta / Re: Can we make posting 3-10x in a row illegal please? on: June 06, 2014, 03:23:53 AM
it wasn't all junk posts, so i don't mind PG doing all that.. i wouldn't read through all of it though.

They don't need to be junk for it to be spam.... there is no reason he can't edit posts to add more information like the rest of us. That was probably the mildest of his multi posts, just go back through his history. The 11 post streak I remember was literally 2 mins between posts, adding more and more stuff.

I guess for some post count is more important than not spamming everyone else. I have him on ignore but 11 ignores in a row sure takes up half the page.
5682  Other / Meta / Re: Can we make posting 3-10x in a row illegal please? on: June 06, 2014, 03:20:37 AM
I think it's annoying, too. But isn't there a character limit for posts and threads? I think it'll be useful only then, though.

The limit is very, very, very high. You'll probably never see an overflowed post in a month.

Only issue I have with this is with people who are bumping a thread where they are selling/offering a service. Would you have them delete their old post and repost again...

That is exactly what the rule is. Bump once, after 24 hours you're allowed to bump again, but you should delete the previous bump.
5683  Other / Meta / Can we make posting 3-10x in a row illegal please? on: June 06, 2014, 02:27:11 AM
Here is just ONE example from ONE person: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=633178.msg7131718#msg7131718

I'm only using PG as an example because he posts 10x more than anyone else, but if you look through his post history he continually does it. Rather than editing posts, he will just continue to smash new posts in to boost his count.

The largest post streak I saw him do in hardware was 11 in a row, and around 25 in 30 posts. It just causes spam.
5684  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My second attempt at BTC mining- need advice on: June 06, 2014, 02:23:28 AM
You have a lot, lot, lot more googling to do before you post something like this. All the information about bitcoin is out there in the public domain as it has been since the start.

It is just preliminary.
there are holes for 8 trough hole connectors on the board.
We'll see how many we need during the initial tests

Makes sense
5686  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: June 06, 2014, 12:58:52 AM
I installed my first S2 yesterday using only Dogie's thread for guidance and the unit was hashing at full speed within minutes of arrival. Thanks, Dogie!

Some odds and ends of possible interest -

The power cord that came with mine will not fit normal Canadian (American) 120v. wall outlets. I used an old 'puter power cord instead, of the kind we all probably have lying around. It and the one provided are each rated at 10 amps. My kill-a-watt says the S2 is drawing 8.85 amps at the wall and the cord is slightly warm to the touch. To be extra cautious I've ordered a 14AWG replacement from Newegg, rated at 15 amps which is overkill but what the heck.

The Canadian government has been helping itself to $30 (through the UPS courier) for each of my S1 deliveries, but for the S2 it grabbed $300 - something to factor into your ROI calculations (heh) if you don't already, regardless of what jurisdiction you are in.

The S2 is noisy enough that my wife has put her foot down about where it can go in the house. She didn't fuss much about the once-loud-but-now-dead BFL LS or about S1s. I don't think I'll risk the noise of an SP10 now though. Because of the noise issue I moved the S2 from its planned ethernet-wired site to another room without ethernet cable. I used a little Netgear WiFi adapter that I had available (WNCE2001) and so far it works flawlessly. I'll probably change it to something more substantial Real Soon Now.

In noise terms, an SP10 is about 15x the pressure so yeah, if you want to remain testicle'd then I'd say stick with what you have.

I cant even think of a 1KW PSU that has 8 either :/
5688  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Novello Technologies new Mining System Project, prices as low as $0.3/GH on: June 05, 2014, 06:07:06 PM
I'm not a fan of this. The market is moving on from preorders (or trying to), and this is a pre of a pre of a preorder. The chances of actually ending up with a mass marketed manufacturer on time are less than 20%.
5689  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: June 05, 2014, 06:05:23 PM
What USB hub would be good to accommodate this (RX-BOX)?
What USB hub would be good to accommodate this (RX-BOX)?

We have had great luck with the Eyeboot 49 port powered hubs, and the Orico 10 port powered hubs.
http://minersource.net/collections/frontpage/products/49-port-powered-usb-hub

Surely its just a data port, so as long as its powered, any cheap hub would do?
5690  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: June 05, 2014, 12:51:31 AM
Heck, I'm interested - I'd just rather see the BE200 on a StickMiner instead Wink  If Rockminer made one of those, I'd be all over that.  As it is, though, the price for the R-Box is not at all bad - unless you go to dx/ali, the heat sink + fan assembly alone is ~$25

These chips are slightly too high for USB based, after ~1.2A you start needing beasty USB hubs which defeats the purpose.

I noticed that. The link only takes me to my mega account (or to the login screen if I'm not already logged in).

Sorry, link was truncated

I don't talk about overclocking on these ones as the product is already at the part of the power curve where any higher power consumption makes it ridiculous. We should really talk about underclocking.
5692  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: June 05, 2014, 12:08:11 AM
You're not testing with one board alone are you? That slot throws up errors if all the ones above aren't populated. Its also the most sensitive to low power or power issues.

I tested all possible combinations of boards. First slot shows ------------ on all asics, no 0 or X.

Edit: reloading bitmain.img did not help, but i learned how to make bootable drive  Smiley
You are probably right about power- don't know how to check it apart from using my spare EVGA1300.
My suspicion is that either my enermax or enermax cords are defective in my machine.
My understanding is that slot#1 is fartherst from the enermax, not closest.

After I reimaged theflash drive with bitmain.img, I got a nasty message after trying to ssh into S2

How this could be remedied apart from hopefully going back to the old SD card? Is this normal when reflashing the SD card with bitmain.img?
How one finds out a correct host (mine) key?
Thanks. Right now I cannot ssh into the machine because of this.

I don't usually SSH in so can't help you there. The first part of the message is common but I've never seen it become a problem.

Your slot problem is hardware though, and doesn't sound like power. You'd get a few chips working/dead rather than all blank.
5693  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: June 04, 2014, 11:26:58 PM
This is a phenomenal thread.  I've had some S1's for awhile and now I'm going to pick up an S2.  I have a question about PSU.  I have a couple of HX 750 laying around.  Could I just use 2 of the HX to power the S2?  Run 3 PCI-E to each one?  Thanks for the great thread.

I'd advise against it. Even though the PCI-Es likely share the same power plane, there is a significant risk of cross loading or one being loaded more than the other. Stock PSU is fine until it dies, mine is still going after months and months.

thank you;
but i don't think hardware problem; some think software problem... but i can't found  how to fixes software

how to firmware upgrade procedure,

only wr703n  upgrade
or reflash raspberry pi bord sd memory ?

I think with the new software update is now not see the cards of avalon

You sure your pool details are correct? That can cause issues. Must be in the right format.

yes i'm tested  back to old working firmware but   but same problem Sad

Then its likely something hardware based. You're not running the hardware as in the OP so its hard to know what that CN clone is doing.

Dogie's comprehensive setup guide is now up!

Great guide as usual!

I also really like the ~34 mb picture of the board...

bfgminer is supporting rbox already?
Not that I know of. Was a stray line, sorry.
