5701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ‘More Than Just a Fad,’ Morgan Stanley CEO Says on: October 22, 2017, 08:26:09 PM
Tom Lee, former JPMorgan Chase managing director, Josh Brown and now the latest Wall Street pro, Morgan Stanley CEO, taking the opposite stance to Jamie Dimon:

Why don't you post the article?  Ain't nobody got time for links.

Not every Wall Street bank chief is bearish on bitcoin.

Morgan Stanley Chief Executive Officer James Gorman takes a more measured view on the cryptocurrency than crosstown rival Jamie Dimon, the JPMorgan Chase & Co. head who earlier this month called it “a fraud” that’s in a speculative bubble worse than tulip bulbs.

Bitcoin is “certainly something more than just a fad,” Gorman said Wednesday at an event held by the Wall Street Journal. “The concept of anonymous currency is a very interesting concept -- interesting for the privacy protections it gives people, interesting because what it says to the central banking system about controlling that.”

The digital currency has soared in recent months, spurred by greater acceptance of the blockchain technology that underpins exchange and optimism that faster transaction times will encourage broader use. Prices have climbed more than four-fold this year -- a run that has drawn debate over whether that’s a bubble.

“I haven’t invested in it,” Gorman said. “I’ve talked to a lot of people who have. It’s obviously highly speculative but it’s not something that’s inherently bad. It’s a natural consequence of the whole blockchain technology.”

Gorman did wonder “at what point do regulators -- like the Chinese have been saying -- just decide we want to control monetary flows for money laundering and privacy and capital outflows and all the other reasons.”

Dimon differentiated between the bitcoin currency and the underlying blockchain technology, which he said can be useful. He also noted that his daughter had bought some bitcoin.

5702  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Fees and Transactions on: October 22, 2017, 04:28:24 PM
Does Fees for transactions depend upon wallets we use? Are transferring funds from one wallet to another cheaper in one wallet than another?

It most certainly does.  However, you can generally take control of the fee.
Use extreme caution if you try this because people have sent a fortune in fees by mistake and generally you can't get it back.
5703  Other / Meta / Error fetching preview on: October 22, 2017, 04:22:43 PM
For the last couple of weeks I have been unable to preview my posts.  On clicking the button, the page would hang on "fetching preview".  Since I have always (for the most part) used Internet Explorer, I put it off to a busy server and carried on.  Yesterday I was motivated to try a different computer with Internet Explorer and it still didn't work (so again figured it was the server).  Today I got a little more curious and opened the console in IE11 while I tried to fetch a preview and here's what I got:

Code:
SCRIPT438: Object doesn't support property or method 'includes'
File: index.php, Line: 266, Column: 6

This is line 266 of index.php

Code:
if([95, 241].includes(current_board))

As it turns out, Internet Explorer doesn't support the includes() method (and seemingly never has).  So what has changed?  Do I have to relinquish my age-old habit of either using a Microsoft browser or previewing my posts?  Can you fix this or do I have to fix myself?  Damn... I'm getting too old to change.

5704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining disaster with 34 L3+ ASICs, need some serious help!!!! on: October 22, 2017, 02:02:25 AM
I wonder if the electric company is throttling my service or something? That would explain why all of them were affected (and the fan too). Maybe some machines are more sensitive to decreased wattage/voltage than others, which explains why now some work and some don't? And that would explain why the lighted ends of the extension cords still work, yet they won't power a miner. It's clear whatever happened was a result of some house electrical problem (again, the fan) but the question is, did it do lasting damage to the miners.
Also, an electrical surge doesn't seem likely since miners in both the attic (behind a whole-house surge protector at the sub-panel) and miners in the garage (no surge protection) were affected. Other than a surge, what sort of electrical derangement can permanently damage a miner?

yeah take one of the bad miners to a working outlet and see if it works , do this one by one to trouble shoot all of them and separate the bad from the good.

I have a 50 amp surge protection on my panels as well and it has saved my equpiment from brownouts several times

btw you would have got a letter from the power company , if there was an issue and they cant throttle your power , its either on or off unless they come out and fuck with the meter

Surge protection doesn't normally protect equipment from brownouts.  What product have you installed?

5708  Economy / Economics / Re: Reliable comparison between mining vs. buying and holding on: October 21, 2017, 11:34:24 PM
It is true that it is quite pointless to buy an ASIC miner and mine from home today. Overheads alone from electricity and cooling alone may outweigh your profits from mining, and your own hashrates may not be high enough to compete with the bigger miners around the world, resulting in much lower mining earnings than expected. These days, the best way to mine is to join a large mining pool - a pool large enough with a combined higher hashrate where all members of the pool pull their resources and work together to stand a better chance at validating a block. I am currently doing that with BitClub Network (BCN), in summary, for the following important reasons:

1. BCN's mining farm is located in Iceland where electricity tariff is low due to the use of geothermal and hydroelectric power. This significantly reduces overhead, leaving more of your bitcoin earned to be kept as profit. Cooling is provided naturally by the cool ambient air.

2. BCN is given a guaranteed hashrate by the manufacturer of AntMiner S9 that they currently use, which means that if there is any drop in hashrates or downtime in machines, additional resources are deployed to keep the hashrate at the agreed number. This sort of arrangement is not possible if you were to mine with your own rig, and you would need to constantly monitor its performance for downtime.

3. BCN is doing actual mining as can be verified on the blockchain.info website on the hashrate distribution chart for major miners across the world. The crowdfunded community is constantly growing with an increasing capacity in combined hashrate, with mining carried out with actual mining hardware. There are companies out there who claim to be doing mining but who don't actually possess or run their own machines, and some even go as far as to use the bitcoin phenomenon to capitalise on the gullibility of the public, without doing any actual mining at all.

4. One of the most important aspect of BCN's operation, which cannot be downplayed or underestimated, is their program for repurchases. This allows the current batch of mining hardware to be replaced and upgraded to the latest version when it becomes available, in order for the community as a whole to remain relevant in the mining race against other miners around the world. The older machines are sold off in the second hand market. This arrangement is possible without reinjection of funds by members, due to a repurchase plan and earnings apportionment that sets aside bitcoins mined for future use, equipment maintenance, and purchase of partial shares that keep the contract perpetual. Without this in place, the community as a whole would not be able to mine profitably and sustainably in the long term.

5. BCN has referral and compensation plans that allow members to build residual incomes, but only if they choose to want to do so. Earning bitcoins with BCN does not require members to do this, and most members are quite content with parking and sitting and earning bitcoins over time without doing much else. However, the compensation plans are there for those who wish to build. This building portion cannot be underestimated as well, as with this incentive for members to spread the word about bitcoin, BCN has been instrumental in bringing awareness about bitcoin and cryptocurrency to many parts of the world. If the price of bitcoin increases due to supply and demand, and from mass adoption or public awareness, then BCN is playing a small role contributing to that.

6. BCN has other cryptocurrency-related projects which they have and may introduce along the way. A more detailed description of the advantages and benefits of mining with BCN is provided at http://www.coinpurveyor.com/benefits-of-joining-bitclub-network/ and http://www.coinpurveyor.com/faq-bitcoin-mining-bcn/.

With bitcoin price often hitting all-time highs in the recent months, mining may still be a viable (and cost effective) option for anyone to accumulate bitcoin for future value appreciation.

For more information on getting started with bitcoin mining with BCN, kindly forward your queries to db6@coinpurveyor.com.
Seems like you shilin' fool.  All of your posts are about this "Club"

It's because of the Ponzi-like nature of the club.  You have to sign people up and prey on their prey.
It's multi-level bullshit using a pittance of mining for the illusion of credibility.  It's totally unsustainable but the top-level fucks are raking in the cash from the morons signing up, hence the trip to Iceland.
Too bad people are so gullible.

I just checked again and, holy crap, they're up to 11.3M accounts. That's 1.3M accounts added since.  Shocked

5710  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Member Here! Gherik's The Name, Crypto's The Game! =) on: October 21, 2017, 03:57:13 PM
I decided to look around before posting, and found this thread for beginners and newbies, etc. I have read some of the rules, and am aware of no pointless threads as they create clutter.

With that said, I would like to then ask a few questions that I couldn't quite find answers to.

1. I am also a member of another crypto forum (CryptoCurrencyTalk), though I won't post URLs of other forums as I know some forums do not approve of that (hope just mentioning the name doesn't cause any problems, simply trying to explain where I came from). As such, I would like to know more about posting on this site, as I have read that repetitive posts of ref codes, etc. would just result on spam / clutter. However, I do not post repeatedly the same thing over and over, I usually only make 1 thread, and update it from time to time, and bumping it up (being the only ref thread I will have, and not creating multiples). Is it okay to have at least 1 ref thread, that receives consistent updates as I explore and discover new sites that I may find to be decent, and refer to other users? (I do research into sites before referring, as I know there are many scam sites. I also provide links to new sites newly discovered, but have little info to them, in which I then play guinea pig and put myself at risk for the sake of others, and would also update info on it as I would discover more on said site). Also curious if it is okay to have a ref thread, could I simply copy / paste my information I have obtained so far from my thread over in CryptoCurrencyTalk to this site?

2. Are we allowed to post our BTC or ETH (or any altcoin) addresses in our threads for donations? (not saying I'm a begger, simply asking if it's okay to post an address to my wallet if anyone is feeling charitable or thankful that I would provide information or put myself at risk at trying new sites for others when little info is given on sites)

3. Does bitcointalk.org serve cookies at 4 PM, with a cup of tea? =) (not specifying any time zone, so feel free to be creative with this one) ^_^

4. I know reputation must be earned, and I read a little into the trust system. Kinda like that idea, and I believe CryptoCurrencyTalk has something similar (as I have already received +2 within a month so yay me). ^_^ I will try to be active, though I do have a job and a life unfortunately. >_< Looking to reach retirement early if I succeed with cryptos, and also intend to diversify my money across multiple platforms (besides cryptos, I may do stocks, invest more in my 401k, perhaps bank CDs, and other means to achieve decent passive income to where I may not need to work anymore). Having free time and funds to support myself, and extra funds to possibly work on personal projects would be very nice. I also considered possibly starting a charity of some kind, but still not sure on what yet.

5. I have a bad habit of typing alot, and don't know when to stop, would now be a good time to stop? XD

Sorry for the long bible of an introduction, just thought I'd throw myself out there and not make such a short thread about it. If anyone took the time to actually read all this, I thank you, and sorry if I may have bled your eyes dry. =P

1. Copy pasting could get you banned (since nobody knows if it belonged to you or not).
2. In your sig
3. you're not that funny - give it up
4. that is one disjointed talking point but I gathered that you were going to try to be active until you found out newbies had to wait a few minutes between posts and that caused you to give up? huh
5. you should have broken 4 into several points and skipped this one - it was painfully obvious.  Are you related to JayJuanGee?

Wink

why don't we see this spike on other charts on https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#24h

There are other things wrong with this chart.  I have painted a stripe down the left side of the image using the same colour represented on the lowest tier of the graph.  As you can see it also matches one of the small upper tiers and yet I cannot find this same colour in the legend.  I would imagine there are some coding issues.

It was also slow, clumsy, and delicious to eat (reportedly). On the other hand, the honey badger, although fairly fearless, seems to lack the other qualities.

Also it shrugs off venomous snake bites. Fucker has nothing to fear, thus it doesn't.

Well we know it protects its young from zebras so it must sense the danger.

5718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Restarting miner boost the speed on: October 18, 2017, 12:07:09 PM
Is there a relation between restarting the miner and the hashrate , as i realized many times if i restarted my miner for any reason my hashrate increase at the begining of work it shows on the miner speed and also show a peak speed at the mining pool site .

Hash rate is calculated based on the number of shares submitted in a given period of time; it is a simple calculation of shares/time.  I suggest you graph the results to see if there is any real correlation or you are selectively remembering the higher rates while ignoring lower rates.  Perhaps you are submitting shares from the memory of your device when you reconnect to the pool which would skew the average.

... Yes, of course they are 5V. That is the voltage spec for USB devices...
What matter is how much current PER-PORT the hub will provide. You want to have at least 2A (2000ma) per-port to run a 2PAC at nice speeds. As a general search, look for 'Charging hubs' made to power tablets and such.

Um there is a thread not to far away specifically about powered hubs and 2PAC's...

edit: Ok, so the thread was 3 pages in so   here is 2PAC powerd hub thread.

good to know I will be pack when I get a better usb hub. fyi it really sucks that the ones they are usually are not available on amazon anymore, but at least I know what I am looking for so 10-12amps per usb slot should be plenty I hope

You wont find a commercially available hub with specs like that.  Charging ports are 2.1A and you generally can't charge and transfer data at the same time.  If you can find something ~2A per port that does both, buy it!  Also, watch the rating on the power supply - most powered hubs come with a shitty 40watt adapter these days which means you can't use all the ports at the same time.
