5781  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So when will we see a high budget Bitcoin movie? on: December 15, 2019, 04:03:32 PM
A lot of the films I've seen reviewed on the forum (there was one thread in particular that I'm thinking of) weren't in English, so I doubt I'd even have access to them even if I could get through them with subtitles.

You'd think bitcoin would be a great plot point or even just a McGuffin, but I haven't seen bitcoin even mentioned in any recent film--and I watch a lot of movies.  Don't know why that is, but maybe it'll change someday.  I have to think that bitcoin's young age, i.e., the fact that it's only been around for ten years, and it's relative lack of mainstream acceptance and understanding, contribute to it being absent from film.

It is a good thing that there have been low-budget movies about it, though.  That's a start at least.  And I'm at least happy that all those documentaries came out, because some of them were really good.
5782  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price- If Tether (USDT) go down, will it be good for Bitcoin? on: December 15, 2019, 03:27:55 PM
However, if tether breaks and it turns out to be not backed up by USD
How would it break?  And isn't it always backed by USD?  I can't say I completely understand how the backing works, unless it's like how Libra is supposed to be, but it should always be pegged to the dollar.  And if that's true, then I'm not even sure how it can go down in value unless the dollar does.  That would actually create an arbitrage opportunity, because you could then buy Tether with dollars and wait until it stabilizes (I'm not an expert in arbitrage, but that's basically what currency traders do).

And man, if the US government is giving Tether such a hard time, I very much doubt they're going to let Facebook proceed with Libra.  Things are not looking good on that front.
5783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, Spouses and Divorce on: December 15, 2019, 01:06:47 AM
Address = Never Give to Wife  = courts don't know jack
LOL.  You're probably not married or you don't have a wife that's concerned about her husband's money--and I'll be damned if that isn't a rarity these days.  What you wrote would be sound advice if it were practical, but most married men tend to not have a surplus of funds in the form of crypto unless they have a really good job and can take care of their kids' needs and whatever the wifey wants with money left over to buy bitcoin with.

And as far as the courts go, they'll find your bitcoin, believe me.  And if it comes out later that you were hiding assets, forget about it.  You're toast.

It's better to not get married anyway IMO.  Read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair and you'll get an idea of why men end up miserable and broke.  It's a great old book and it's still relevant to today's world.
5784  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you ever trade at work? on: December 14, 2019, 06:12:10 PM
This is such a funny question--funny because it makes so much sense to me, and I relate to anyone asking it.

I don't really do much trading in general, and I haven't traded crypto at work, but I've spent a lot of time fooling around on the work computer with various crypto things, so that sort of counts I guess.  Only a hardcore crypto addict could understand the need to do this, so I guess I'd have to put myself into that category.  It used to be the stock market that I'd have pulled up all the time on my job's computer, but that was years ago and now it's all about bitcoin for me.

It isn't terrible to trade even while at work.
Not terrible, but jobs tend to frown on using their time and computers to screw around with bitcoin.
5785  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin go to $8000 soon look this fractal on: December 14, 2019, 05:04:03 PM
I think everyone should know this fractal, bitcoin is already below and will soon recover quickly above $ 8000.
How soon is soon?  The OP's post above was written a couple of weeks ago, and it looks like we might be headed toward sub-$7000 levels very, very soon.  Bitcoin is at $7053 as I'm writing this.

This is a good example of why I don't look at charts and why I rarely make serious predictions about bitcoin or anything else.  Those patterns you see sometimes don't tell you the truth of what's really going to happen.  And I even figured bitcoin would be going above $8k soon, too, even without seeing the snippet of a chart that OP included.  Oh well, that's bitcoin for ya.
5786  Economy / Currency exchange / [N] 0.00211885 btc [H] PayPal at preev 1:1 on: December 14, 2019, 03:17:23 AM
As stated in the title, I need exactly 0.00211885BTC at preev 1:1, which is about $15.35 right now. We can use whatever preev is at, at the time we finalize the deal.  You'll have to be able to send the bitcoin to a segwit address.

I will not send first unless you have significant green trust or if I've done business with you before.

This will be a neutral feedback transaction.

Send me a PM if you're willing to help me out, as I might miss seeing this thread if you post here.

Local rule:  Please do not post here unless you're interested in doing this deal.  PayPal is very risky because of the chance of chargebacks, but I have never done this and won't ever.  Also, I won't deal with anyone under Full Member unless they're willing to send first.

Edit:  Deal done, locking thread.
5787  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [H] $15 BTC [W] $13 PAYPAL on: December 14, 2019, 02:50:59 AM
I sent you a PM, and I can give you my e-mail if it's easier to communicate since you're limited as to how many PMs you can send as a Newbie.  Let me know if you're interested.
5788  Other / Meta / Re: DT members repeatedly reposting their deleted posts from self moderated threads? on: December 13, 2019, 06:23:18 PM
I though you must NOT repost your posts after the self moderator deletes them??
That's not the case at all as far as I know.  I don't even think it's against the rules to repost something that a moderator deleted, but I have to confess that I haven't read the forum rules in quite a while.

When members get their posts deleted in a self-moderated thread and repost it in their own thread or another one, it's probably because it was one that the member thought was important.  I don't know, but I don't see any problem with it since we're not talking about post that necessarily broke forum rules.  They got deleted by a member who isn't staff, so what's the problem?
5789  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to $5k? Tone Vays on: December 13, 2019, 04:41:37 PM
I've heard the name Tone Vays before but I haven't a clue who he is.

If he's saying bitcoin's going to drop to $5k and then go higher, that's quite a specific prediction--and since he can't see the future any better than the rest of us, his prediction is probably as wrong as any of us could make.  This is why I hate guessing about what bitcoin's going to do.  It just seems so pointless.

But even more pointless would be to listen to predictions like this one.  Sure, it could happen but I don't think bitcoin is going to go as low as $5k and if it does, I'm not sure when it would even get back to where it is right now, which is just above $7k.  Getting down to $5k would be very, very bearish.
5790  Other / Off-topic / Re: Twitter CEO and pro-Bitcoiner Jack Dorsey strikes again! on: December 13, 2019, 03:34:17 PM
It is not clear what is meant by the decentralized standard for social networks.
Me neither, though I didn't click on the article and just read what OP quoted.  Wouldn't a decentralized social media app put Twitter and Facebook out of business?  If you didn't have to rely on a company like one of those for sending tweets or whatever, it seems like they wouldn't be able to make money--but I don't understand any of the details of what the CEO is proposing, so I'm just thinking out loud.

This doesn't do anything for bitcoin, though, and I wish the Twitter CEO would figure out a way to incorporate btc into their platform or something.  Bitcoin is impractical as a tipping mechanism unless it worked like a faucet where you'd have to accumulate enough of it to withdraw, but there could be some other uses for it on Twitter.  Maybe.

I don't use social media and don't care much about it, so I don't know how important it is for services like the ones Twitter, Facebook, and the others provide to be decentralized.  If that meant that your personal data couldn't be stolen or exploited, I'd be all for it.  But I'm not sure if that's what it means at all.
5791  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: December 13, 2019, 03:25:31 PM
Royse777, meet JJG “wall of text” JayJuanGee
I don't see what he wrote above as a giant wall of text, though it was certainly a long post.  I have no real problem with that, either.  At least he puts a lot of effort into what he's writing, and I actually respect that quite a bit.  Nor is he a shitposter, and I base that on previous posts of his I've read.

TOAA = cunt
JJG = good people
Agreed, though I don't know JJG that well.  But compared to TOAA, everyone else might as well be Satoshi.

As far as this thread goes, every month I look at the rankings of the top merit-givers and I keep slipping downward despite trying to spread as many merits around as I can.  I guess that's a disappointment for me personally, but I'm really glad there are merit sources who are giving away such large amounts of merit.  The whole system would fail if that wasn't the case, so it's a good thing to see.
5792  Economy / Reputation / Re: Legendary merit seller on: December 13, 2019, 03:07:20 PM
I think that at the moment tagging for him will be enough.
Yeah, but merit abusers don't really get tagged anymore and haven't for a long time now.  I gave up doing that after I started a thread about the practice and got some opinions from the community.  Plus Theymos doesn't really approve of giving negative trust to merit abusers, either.  If this guy was linked to an account that was abusing bounties, I'd have no problem tagging him but there's no evidence of that here.

That's just me, though.  That doesn't mean another DT member couldn't tag the guy, and I'm sure there wouldn't exactly be a riot about it on the forum.  Maybe a complaint by tema to the tagger, but that's probably it.
5793  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin going to $9200? on: December 13, 2019, 03:02:48 PM
Just another pump analyzer.  Grin
I don't know what that means exactly, but it sounds like the article might be just that.  That isn't real news media, by the way, if they're writing articles hyping bitcoin or any other coin, nor would I trust a website that writes crap like that.

As far as whether bitcoin is going to $9200 (and I'm not sure where that price came from since I'm not clicking on the link), yeah I'd say it's going to, but not this year.  It's got to break $8k first, and even that seems to be an insurmountable barrier in the short term--even though bitcoin was above $9k not too long ago.  When bitcoin gets stuck in a range, it gets stuck for a long-ass time.

Next year, man, next year.  It's going to be a much better year than 2018 and even this year, at least I'm really hoping it will be.  I have a feeling the halvening is priced in already, but I can't say I'm 100% sure about that.  I said the same thing about the last two halvenings and I turned out to be wrong.  Anyway, we'll see about that but in any case bitcoin is due for a bull market sometime soon.
5794  Economy / Reputation / Re: Legendary merit seller on: December 13, 2019, 02:55:15 PM
Good evidence, OP.  I tend to believe there was something shady going on with all that merit being sent.  Fortunately tema hasn't sent or received any merits in at least 120 days, so he's probably out and won't be getting any more.  Plus most of those accounts that are connected have been banned.

Funny how these things tend to work themselves out, eh?  I don't know if tema is an alt account of one of the banned accounts, but maybe someone with some good alt-sniffing skills could check into that and see if he's worth a permaban as well.  Seems like he'd deserve it.
5795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to gift Bitcoin this Christmas (+cool Bitcoin gift ideas) on: December 12, 2019, 05:08:21 PM
A paper wallet is a horrible way to gift bitcoin. The person who is receiving has to trust both your honesty and your technical capabilities 100%, that you haven't secretly kept a hold of their private key and that you have created the paper wallet in a secure fashion.
I completely understand your point, but keep in mind that this would be a gift, and a gift that could be redeemed immediately and secured in a wallet that the gift-giver wouldn't have the keys to.  And since it's free to the recipient, there's no risk to him or her.  They don't have to keep the coins in the paper wallet, that's what I'm getting at.

I think it's a great idea if you know someone who might appreciate a gift of bitcoin.  Unfortunately, I've got nobody in my life who'd want to get bitcoin in their christmas stocking.

Edit:
If the person doesn't fully trust the person then he/she could just send the crypto to his/her own wallet after they receive it.
Ah, I didn't read your post before writing mine.  That's what I was getting at.  It's easy enough to verify that the paper wallet wasn't compromised and easy enough to secure the coins it contains right after receiving the gift.
5796  Other / Meta / Re: Readdit Karma whores=Bitcointalk merit whores :) on: December 12, 2019, 04:50:37 PM
I have limited experience in Reddit, but I don't know of real use for that Karma.
I probably have even less experience with Reddit, and I've heard of karma points or whatever they're officially called but I never understood what their purpose was.  I think they're just for bragging rights on reddit, and I guess you could consider merits to have that same function here, even though merits do serve a useful purpose, forum-wise.

On the other hand on Bitcointalk the merit is necessary for ranking up, and higher ranks translate into admission and higher pay at bounties.
Right, and that's why members (especially lower-ranked ones) find them so important, and it why there used to be so many threads in Meta a while back dealing with merit issues.  I'm glad that trend finally burned itself out, by the way.  It was getting really annoying in Meta for a while.

What would be the purpose of the thread?
Ridicule certain folks? Make fun of them? Discourage them from posting?
Probably, and I don't think a list will get made anyway.  There aren't any "merit whores" that I can think of, and I never thought of anyone who wanted to earn merits really badly in those terms.  In fact, the reason I try to be a good merit source is to help out members who need merits to rank up.  Merits aren't exactly like Reddit's karma points in that they aren't just used for ego-boosting purposes (which I think is what the karma thing is all about).  Anyway, no merit whore nominations from me.
5797  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC to GOLD on: December 12, 2019, 04:41:42 PM
is there any news about gold will experience a drastic increase ?
Hell no there isn't, and even if you read those so-called news articles telling you gold is overdue for a bull market, don't believe them.  If you go to coinflation.com you'll see all sorts of articles written by gold bugs and/or sponsored by gold dealers, and they've all said the same thing for years, that gold is the only true money, you need to own it, blah blah blah.

I wouldn't trade any bitcoin for gold or silver right now, and probably wouldn't ever.  Whether the halving is going to produce another bull run or not, I have a feeling bitcoin is going to increase whereas gold is probably going to tread water indefinitely.

We can say that gold is a much safer investment with a fairly stable price, but also with less opportunity to earn when compared to Bitcoin.
Exactly, I couldn't have said it better myself.  If you don't want your investment to grow, buy gold.  If you want to make a profit given enough time, buy bitcoin.
5798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else notice that when share market down, crypto price goes up? on: December 12, 2019, 08:12:41 AM
Quote
when share market down, crypto price goes up

OP, can you put that in a chart? I highly doubt that it's true! Tongue
I'm wondering if he can put it into words, because I have no idea what he's talking about.

Share market?  OP, are you talking about the stock market?  And even if you are, you've only been watching the bitcoin market for two months, so I don't think you're looking at enough data points unless you've actually researched past price movements.

the percentage of BTC always increased.
What do you mean by "the percentage of BTC"?  You really should be posting all of this in the local boards, because there's an obvious language barrier here.  Nobody is going to be able to answer any questions for you if they can't understand what you're asking.
5799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Bitcoin scampany got rekt! on: December 12, 2019, 07:47:12 AM
looks like only US government is in the act of moving against this scammers?if US can do this why not the whole world can't?
I don't know why this seems to be the case, but I'm glad this scam got busted.  This was a sort of cloud mining scheme, wasn't it?  This is exactly what I think happens when I hear about how shady cloud mining is--you pay money for supposed hashing power, but there's no mining going on, and the company pays you out of new investors' money (if you even get paid at all).

US prosecutors and laws tend to be tough when it comes to scams.  As to why we haven't seen a lot more of this, it's probably because crypto scams go under-reported for whatever reason.  And I bet part of that is because people don't want law enforcement to know that they're into bitcoin.  We all know how much of a bad rap it gets.
5800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ‌Uganda Police Arrest Leader of $2.7 million Crypto Scam. on: December 11, 2019, 08:53:36 PM
Not being a racist, but no matter what race or nationality, when it comes to crypto currency. Have trust issues.
Nah, this has nothing to do with race or even what country the scam originated in.  Hell, there have been scams galore in the US and one of the first was Bitcoin Savings & Trust out of Texas if I remember correctly.  Scams are everywhere bitcoin is to be found, and that's the truth.

Still, you don't hear much about Uganda around here.  If a country in Africa gets mentioned on the forum, it's usually Nigeria and not necessarily because of any scams happening there.  I just think crypto is really popular there.

Every time something like this would happen, we need to clarify to the people we know that this was not what Bitcoins for, instead we tell them that is is the scammers who only use the name of Bitcoins or other cryptocurrencies to stole the investor's money.
Yeah, I hear you but crap like this still gives bitcoin a bad name no matter how much clarification you do.  Everyone here on bitcointalk knows that bitcoin is just the form of money involved in the scam, but try to tell that to the general public.  All they ever hear about bitcoin is stuff like Silk Road and the darkweb and all sorts of criminal activities.  It's a shame.
