582  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase, the Final Death Blow? on: April 02, 2013, 03:04:59 PM
Overall, I've been very happy with Coinbase.  The lack of buy side liquidity hurts those who have no other way to buy, but in the long run it is not a big deal.  However, they could simply tighten the buy/sell spread so that they could match more orders and entice more people to sell.  It is actually a very good opportunity to gain market share for Coinbase.  All Coinbase has to do is eliminate the buy/sell spread for short while, gain more sell side orders (not that much of a stretch considering Coinbase does not have the tiny $ transfer limits in place at Gox), then they match order flow instead of relying on filling orders from Gox (I'm not positive they do this, but it seems really likely considering they typically match the Gox buy and sell bids).  Coinbase already has pretty high volume, if they went this route they could become very serious competition for Gox in a very short period of time.  Transform from intermediary to exchange in one fell swoop.

I just verified my Coinbase account and am hoping to buy bitcoins in less than 3-4 weeks (which has been the case with Bitinstant lately)  At least Coinbase tells you "We've exceeded our normal buy limits for today" instead of taking your money and giving you the coins weeks later.  You have the choice to buy in the future (not great, but all are having liquidity problems right now).   If 3000 orders were started on Bitinstant TODAY, then 3000 people would be out of luck until they get their funding back up to par (not a good business model).   Can't stand having my money in 'Limbo' for 3 weeks at a time.  I am also waiting for Gox verification.  Seems the cheapest method out there.

don't see mt.gox as an option on bitinstant anymore.
I'm guessing they pulled it temporarily to catch up with orders and such.

If BitInstant can't scale up as Bitcoin becomes a world class currency, then they deserve to fail.

Me personally?  I am finally doing what I should have done - I am verifying my MtGox account.  Then I can fund directly from Dwolla and won't have to pay 20 per $1000.  This is horse-shit.

But you are still going to use Bitinstant, right? Also when you dump funds into Dwolla they hold them for 7 days. You can't do anything.

That really depends.  It would be hard to say at this point because I did my 'instant' transfer on Thursday - got answers late Friday.  I was very upset, having lost the opportunity to buy back in at $77.00 (had it been instant), knowing that I HAD timed things right and now, it's nearly 4 days later, and we are nearing $100.00 again on Gox - I got several emails explaining things but no resolution.

Last I heard it was queued and would process, Friday night, blaming the MtGox API and DDOS attack.  But, MtGox is fast now, and volume is only 21k (rare to see it that low).  If Bitinstant were my business, I certainly would not take the weekend off - nor would I leave this many people hanging for so long.

Not worried about Dwolla. I can deal with a system where I know they are going to hold my money for 7 days - I just maintain $5-7k there so I don't have to wait to make transfers. (the bank pays no interest anyway.)

Well, we will see what happens when Yankee resurfaces tomorrow.  If he handles things, I will try one more - within unspoken limits and see if it goes through.

Haven't checked this thread in a while...holy crap! People are STILL trying to order through bitinstant? Folks there are plenty of other anonymous options out there...ziggap, cryptocurrent, blue sky traders and others. I sincerely hope that bitinstant gets their act together because they were once awesome...now not so much. If people stop ordering from them maybe they can focus on resolving their undoubtedly high backlog of support tickets and get back on their game. In this case it's buyer beware!

cb

Yeah, mine is going on 24 hours shortly.  Yankee (Charlie) took my order number by email AGAIN and asked me to confirm - done - now no word.  Thanks for the list of options.  I thought that most of those need to eventually go through Bitinstant anyway.  If not, which is the most direct route?

My transactions are always 2000, 2500 or 3000 never less.

Here are the last few:

2013/03/18
18:38:22
deposit      $2,940.30000   $2,967.64272
Transfer from bitinstant: BitInstant transfer
2013/02/28
14:15:32
deposit      $2,450.25000   $2,459.81636
Transfer from bitinstant: BitInstant transfer
2013/02/08
14:15:59
deposit      $1,960.20000   $3,001.75816

Those are all violations, Im investigating why they went thru.

Limits are strict, and legally we must follow them

Still nothing in my MtGox account.  You should investigate.

If I ever get this transaction through, I will try one for less than 500 and see if it goes through without having to spend an entire day trying support and posting on this forum.

While waiting for processing.... (20 hours now).  I went to the site to see if I could catch a glimpse of the TOS that I violated.  It says 'by continuing, you agree to the Terms of Service..."   but there is not link TO the terms of service - clicked every link on the site and can't find them anywhere. There used to be a check box I had to click, but that's gone now.

Does anyone have a copy of them?

Do you have an Order issue?

Hi Charlie,

I was nice and patient for the first 8 or 9 failed transfers - Rachel and Seth were nice about it, but it's always 10 to 30 hours to get a transfer put through.

(All good pre - December 2012 - within seconds.   Nobody explains why they are all failing - just "I'm sorry, I put it through.")

YES, I have an issue.  I transferred $3000 20 hours ago. And I sent at least 8 requests stating how long this is taking.

Yes, see if you can put it through - but ALSO clue us in as to why this is happening (transfers have failed in times of high volume, low volume, all times of the day and night).  If you are interested I can pull up all the screenshots of all the transfers - and send you all the responses as to when they were manually processed.

Hey,

Thanks for being an awesome customer of ours!

The reason your order failed is because you violated our TOS by transferring over $500 limit, you sent $3000

Under the confirm box it says "limits 500 for all transfers, 1000 for cash bank deposits, 2000 per per day, minimal order 20"

If you email me confirmation you still want this processed, I can process it.

Charlie

I agree.  "It worked fine before".  What happened??

My funds are missing in action too.  Where are the people from Bitinstant? Are they posting solutions? Explanations?

This thread is the (Active Customer Support)

The only activity here are frustrated people who lost their money.

Funds not showing up at MTGOX, I'm sure I got the 6 digit acct. number right, says "MTGox Connection Error"

Fixed I lost out on the opportunity to buy on the dip,, was pullin my hair out sub 80 got in at 89.

Yeah me too - would be up nearly 700.00 if it were truly instant.  You and I got our timing right - it was Bitinstant that dropped the ball.  I was told they have over 1000 open trouble tickets and they hired one more customer service person (I guess that makes six people working at Bitinstant).

Mine is still not resolved - told them "sometime next week would be ok - damage done."

I was just chatting with someone at BitInstant about my 5 hour delayed transaction.  He said he tried to put it through but MtGox ran out of funds.  If some of you have had your issues resolved, that can't be true.

It also doesn't explain 3 or more per month - since December failing - every time.

I would hold off on using bitinstant untill seth can find out whats going on

I would hold off permanently.  I have asked nicely through the last 8 or 9 transactions and nobody is trying to find out what is going on. Believe me.

How does the process work in buying bitcoin with Bitinstant via Dwolla or Mt. Gox?

Well, it doesn't.

First Dwolla holds your money for 7 days - then you go to bitinstant and select 'from Dwolla' and 'to MtGox' - finally, your "instant" transfer fails, and you write countless notes to support (there are only two support people) until they get to their computer and manually process your order.

Find another means - really.  And, let me know when you do.  I am trying to find something that works too.
595  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Official Newbie BitInstant Support Thread (Active Customer Support) on: March 29, 2013, 12:00:58 AM
Yeah, somebody is asleep at the wheel.

I transferred the max I could 3 hours ago when MtGox was at 77 and now it's at 89.

It would have been nice to be able to buy the dip - no such luck.

I am not a newbie. I have been using BitInstant (or Bit-six-hours) for about a year but, it stopped being bitINSTANT in December 2012.  For some reason, Rachel or Seth has to press some magic button for your transaction to go through.

Going to try one last bitinstant transfer next week for grins and see how long it takes if you don't click the "live support" button at the bottom.

The company is starting to look a bit Rinkie-Dink (sad because BTC is getting really popular and they could dominate the market instead of losing loyal customers.)

More later...

Sure.  So many asked for this kind of modification for more control over trades.

597  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Chrome Browser extension: MtGox trading bot on: March 08, 2013, 01:02:06 AM
This bot doesn't work so well when there is an upward trend like the unprecedented rise we've been seeing this last 4-5 weeks.

I'd suggest you wait until BTC stays within +/-5% over the course of a week, then I'd use the bot.

That's for sure.

I watched it buy at 36.00 - saw 49.00 - the bot just ignored the major crash (33.30) and didn't sell till it was back up to 41.50.

Then the bot bought at 44.75 and just now sold at 41.17 (loses never heard of when this bot was written i.e. btc at 5.04 - hehe)

I am currently modifying the code to make trades every 15 minutes (if necessary) in a fast moving market.  It will take weeks to see if this will work.
598  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Chrome Browser extension: MtGox trading bot on: March 07, 2013, 12:31:16 AM
Seems like a dead thread, but if anyone's interested...

I tested the bot with 1000 dollars.    It bought BTC at 36.00 (blue arrow) and successfully allowed MtGox to rally up to 49.00 and has not sold those coins as of yet - at 39.00

I wonder what the benefit is?  The lines for both moving averages have converged.  I am letting it go to see if it ever sells?  Or maybe only after a loss has occurred.

The chart for today.

... But you are running a very old miner version with some serious bugs in it. Upgrade today! Smiley

Thanks for the info.  That machine is just an old MB with a card plugged in. I guess I need to drag a monitor over to it and upgrade it.  My other rigs are running 2.7.6 with no problems. My GPU days are numbered anyway...
