5803  Economy / Economics / Beliefs about money and wealth on: February 20, 2018, 01:45:21 PM
Everyones hasn diferent beliefs about money and wealth. See for example 35 different ways of thinking about it here:
https://daringtolivefully.com/powerful-beliefs-about-money

One famous author, not my favourite, yet an influential one is Robert Kyosaki. In his book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", he examines two different beliefs and states that those believes will shape your success.

What of these do you agree with? What other beliefs do you have about money?

1 - Millionaires are greedy, that is why they become millionaires.
2 - Company managers just want to use the workers to make themselves rich and others poor.
3 - Having money is a question of luck, if not of "gods grace".
4 - Debt is always bad.
5 - To make money, you just need to have a great idea nobody thought off.
6 - Cryptos are the way to make money and be successful without having to put effort into it.
7 - To become rich I just have to believe in Bitcoin because many people have become rich doing that.
8 - To become rich I just have to be more clever and streetwise than everyone around to get my share of the cake.

Your turn to think ...

(EDIT: These are NOT my beliefs, at least not necessarily, is just a list to think. Is not the list by Robert K. either.)
5805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO horror stories on: February 20, 2018, 10:53:45 AM
Hi guys,

There is a lot of talk about ICO scams. I'm curious about specific examples. Care to share your ICO investor horror story?

Thanks!

I have not invested in any ICO that turned out to be a scam as such, but I do feel I have been mistreated as an investor in Ripio Credit Network and WAX by getting the tokens distributed very late and loose the first days of market.

5808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's the right length for a whitepaper? on: February 19, 2018, 02:58:25 PM
Hello folks,
I recently wrote a whitepaper for an ICO project, and to prove my integrity and concept to investors I made it as comprehensive as possible. It got to 80 pages.

But since then several people have suggested that 80 pages is too much, saying I should reduce it to 20-25 pages.

I am undecided. What is the right length for an ICO whitepaper?

There is no right length. Attracting investors has several stages. First, you need to grab their attention, typically that was done with an "elevator pitch", 2 to 3 minutes. Then you need an executive summary, no more than 5 pages and then comes the business plan.

Please, notice that while everyone talks about White Papers, some of the ICOs need a Business Plan. A White Paper is something to discuss technology and principles and many business do not have any innovation in terms of mathematics or software engineering.

One liner: If you can't convince me of spending more time with you in 2 pages, forget about writing anything else.
5809  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING Why Arcblock <ABT> is potentially a scam ::) ::) on: February 19, 2018, 02:51:28 PM
Arcblock ICO sold out in minutes just now.
As far as the ICO is concerned, it went well. The progress is transparent.
Since our personal cap is 3ETH, I'd like to have a try.

Would you set a personal cap on a scammy project? No way, you want as much as possible from everyone on such a case.
5810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING Why Arcblock <ABT> is potentially a scam ::) ::) on: February 19, 2018, 02:48:28 PM
If you give me 300 million USD, i'll give you a paper with some black text on it, a wordpress site, and create a telegram channel with 40k bots too. NP, lets begin ScamBlock 3.0 ICO right now

You don't need 300M USD, in fact you need less that 1 M, what the f*ck, just hand me 10k and I can do that myself. But what you can't fake is having a real and verifiable team behind, investors and advisors + all the signs of being legit.
5811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING Why Arcblock <ABT> is potentially a scam ::) ::) on: February 19, 2018, 02:45:17 PM
This project is overhype. And their bounty program most likely allow newbie which i see as a spam. They maybe reach their ICO goal but i'm skeptical that this could be a huge money grab from them. Their project being not OPEN SOURCE is a big red flag.
Agree. I search google for them and there are tons of red flags and it is not looking good at all. Probably a scam ar at least project with no future.

Dear newby user, could you point out those "tons of red flags" , whatever a red flag means for you. (hint: a red flag is not a scam sign , is just a clear flaw in the business proposition).
5812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING Why Arcblock <ABT> is potentially a scam ::) ::) on: February 19, 2018, 02:44:36 PM
there is one big argument that arcblok is a scam, because it's necessary to send an aether to an Iso not to the address of a smart contract, but to many different addresses that are issued in a personal account to users
did not even bother to make a smart contract

It is fine not to trust that method, but it is not a proof of a Scam. Look for other stuff because scams usually have more that one tell tale sign.
5813  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Source Quotas on: February 19, 2018, 11:06:59 AM
I understand that Meta is flooded with Merit postings, but I believe I have found the one simple solution to solve everyones complaints: Merit Source Quotas.

If a merit source ultimately has to reach a quota, similar to police officers issuing tickets, the merit system will be a raging success. More merits will be passed around and post quality will increase just as it would without the quotas in place.

Why? You ask...

In a given set of 10 posts, there will inevitably be the best post. A merit source will then in effect, be forced to choose the best post out of several posts, instead of arbitrarily picking posts that meet their personal requirements. This leads to more merit being passed around, and users ultimately being awarded for posting the best posts - not just the posts that meet highly specific "quality" requirements.

There is no need for demerits and no need to adjust merit amount to level up.

Yep, this post sounds as good as the "Useless Ethereum Token (UET) " .

a) It addresses a need that does not exist, that is ranking up members. Ranking up a certain number of members is not an objective of the forum per-se AFAIK.

b) Addresses it in a counter productive manner: By forcing sources to merit even if there is nothing to merit. That is, if everything is shit, they would have to find the ones that are less of a shit, yet still being shit.

c) Measures "success" wrongly: The objective of the system is NOT to let merit flow, but to increase the quality of the posts. Merit flowing is desirable, not an absolute need.

d) The only end of the post is to address a personal "need" of ranking up, not to improve the community.

e) It is biased mentioning "everyone's" complaints. People who are here to share their concerns and learn would have no reason to complain.

If you want to shitpost or go bounty-only you are free to do so (I do bounty hunt myself),  just don't expect to be rewarded for it and don't try to force sources into it.

Dónde has leído eso?
5816  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: Cada vez me gusta menos el bitcoin... on: February 18, 2018, 09:17:25 PM
Yo tambien.

5817  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 18, 2018, 11:00:59 AM
Is any action going to be taken when members are found abusing the system? There are a couple of threads of "abuses" and I don´t see any particular action taken to discourage it.
5818  Local / Tokens (Español) / Re: [ANN] ICE ROCK MINING - INGRESOS DE POR VIDA - MINERIA DE BITCOIN - Con video!! on: February 18, 2018, 10:52:25 AM

5820  Other / Meta / Re: [List] Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0 on: February 17, 2018, 08:07:17 PM
There's a lot of users are abusing merit points, if you can't notice some of them are continues doing this. But the list given in this thread are only suspected so it means that most that the evidence given are not yet proven. I was sad because some of users are continues in buying merit or they can exchange with the others. I advise to them stop doing that because karma was always on the back. Maybe you improve your post, give the best quality you can and be creative and informative your post to easily earn merit points.
I want to quote your post, because you have a point. But the sudden reality is no one cheaters will admit their sin, even they are caught in the act. For now it's better to watched all users in the list because they have now starting to attempt cheating. In addition if we prove that this list are continue making some malicious act, then report them into the moderator. For now since we have no concrete evidence it's better to be quite and observed their move.

I think that the damage to the system that the standard user can do to the is very limited, since eventually they would run out of merit. Only merit sources can possible cause the system to malfunction by selling large amounts of merit, and I am sure those will be under certain scrutiny.
