Bitcoin is like a box of chocolates...
5862  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: August 17, 2017, 12:41:29 AM
Alas, I would have a question. Starting from a private key, can you generate another similar address?

Let me give an example:

Suppose I have the private key of the address:
1PasqAbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbcgehnE

I want to generate another similar address:
1PasqRbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbcsaSgf

Can you generate it from the private key of the first address so you do not have to "generate" keys by causality?

Thank you

Sorry for my English

No!  If it worked that way, Bitcoin would be worthless.
The hashing algorithms used are one-way functions - you would never be able to find
1PasqAbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbcgehnE base58 decoded is 0004456E03A3A379310A0DAB1718A3463EDD73E0436DC23977
1PasqRbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbcsaSgf  base58 decoded is 0004456E07D8524025C216494E6313E49A11D579A0CD20FA28

Now you can take off the last 4 bytes (checksum) and the first byte (network id)
1PasqAbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbcgehnE; 04456E03A3A379310A0DAB1718A3463EDD73E043
1PasqRbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbcsaSgf;  04456E07D8524025C216494E6313E49A11D579A0

to get the public keys, you have to undo the RIPMD160 hash and then undo the SHA256 hash on each of those results however, there is no known reverse function for either of those.
Even if you could get the public key this way, the public key doesn't map to the private key as this mapping is also a one way function.

So let's see if I understand having the private key of: 0004456E03A3A379310A0DAB1718A3463EDD73E0436DC23977

I can not generate another similar public address. By assuming the private key of: 0004456E03A3A379310A0DAB1718A3463EDD73E0436DC23977

To do this I should cancel RIPMD160 and SHA256 on the private key, right?

Thank You

Well, you need the private key to derive the public key (this cannot be reversed) and you need the public key to derive your public address (this cannot be reversed)
 This number: 0004456E03A3A379310A0DAB1718A3463EDD73E0436DC23977
is simply the hexadecimal version of this base58 encoded public address:
1PasqAbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbcgehnE

It's not possible to undo the RIPEMD160 or SHA256 hash functions so you can never go backwards and if you start with similar private keys, they map to entirely different points on the ECDSA curve (so the public keys will be very different) and even if those turned out to be similar, the hash functions will produce very different results on similar numbers.
example:
private key: 0A0000000001 yields public key:
04BADACBF295A97C139B70150AE361E864187A6152A149335568C2B7F3B35482E1D6B0D12818EEF 9A9C2DBDE947B542C220A97F54329BDA2CE2995E12195FB6A41

private key: 0A0000000002 yields public key:
0471AFF13951BDE978F0AA1F1D5AD9FFB38C900CD33127A651826A308F734B54ACD734A0D1052EF 95F921DC23FA962C0E0FCE72F7DF564B56F9710A7248F1E1639

You can play with the hashing yourself here

Ok fair does I thought you were attacking me for no reason, no harm done.

Those bookmarks don't relate to anything that could tie into my personal Id but I'll delete it anyway.

Can you try a search on all boards? Does it work?

I tried a search on all boards and it doesn't work.

Something else that helps serve as a marker:
If you have a good magnifier you will see that the wiper (the part that turns, has the tiny cross in it) also has a short flat area. That flat is in line with 1 arm of the phillips screwdriver cross.

Anywho, to run my sticks @ 200MHz I have that flat up at the top (top being the USB plug) and tipped just slightly past the horizontal maybe 5 degrees.

edit: looking at that clock pic on mine the flat would be a line from the 11:15 tick to the 1:15 tick marks.

Great info. Thank you.

Works great and easier on the eyes.

Where from?

I purchased a Drok from Amazon but there are cheaper meters out there all the way down to $6US

Yes I think it needs to be reported as it does not work when it used to work before.  Why wouldnt i report it?  You say its a valid error but my point being it used to work and now it does not.

What you posted is a work around it does not solve the issue.  When i pick under 5 boards then it works.  When I search with the check all box selected I get the error.

No I did not know how to post an image hence me asking how to do it.

Whats wrong with not knowing how to do something and asking for a bit of help or direction?

image redacted

I didn't say there was anything wrong with not knowing how to do something, I was saying that since you don't know how to do the most trivial of things on this site such as post an image, what makes you feel that this message you received was not your error but rather a site error which needs to be reported?

My turn.  Did you consider the consequences of posting a snapshot of your browser without redacting personal information such as your whereabouts and your business interests?  It might be a good idea to remove that image and replace it with a less personalized version.  Your call.

Good old 蒋信予, Jiang Xinyu. He will be turning 31 this September 14th from what I understand. I have been working on tracking down the cat, he can't disappear forever.

Since it seems that he owns a decent stash the stockholders could try to organize to recover something. As an owner of 200 shares on Havelock I would happily pay 50% of whatever is recovered in my name to whoever does the job.

lel is Havelock even online anymore?

Yep!  I just sold all my AM shares a couple of weeks ago for nearly dust.  I had a lot of trouble connecting and maintaining a connection while doing the deal (they must be running the site on an iPhone 3GS) but eventually it worked.  I even transferred the coin to my wallet - it took a couple of days but they arrived.

edit: I mean months; not weeks.  Just checked now and it is still accessible.

I get the above error message any time i try to search anyone know how to resolve?

If it continues to happen make this same request, preferably with screenshots in the Meta board. That's where issues and questions for the forum administrators occurs.

The most logical thing to do would be to not to select more than 5 boards when you search.
Look to the bottom of the search window where it says Choose a board to search in, or search all - uncheck the "check all" box.

 or

Use the google search which searches the entire site without caring how many boards there are to search.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha

looks like this post has been moved already, how do i add an image?  i click on "insert image" and it brings up (img][/img)??

You have to use a valid image source between the tags.  The link you use must point directly to an image and not a web page containing the image.

Seriously, you don't know how to add an image on this board, and yet you think
Select no more than 5 boards at a time.  error message
is something that needs to be reported?  I already told you how to stop getting the error message but you seemingly persist without acknowledging whether you are in fact selecting more than 5 boards or not.  If you are selecting more than 5 boards, then you will find the solution is to stop selecting more than 5 boards.

The contextual search in the upper right searches the board you're on and all subboards. If this results in more than 5 boards, but less than all boards, then you get that error (recently-added for performance reasons).

If you want to search the entire forum, you can go to the search page or to the front page. The limitation I added is that you can either search all boards, or limit it to 1-5 boards. But you can't limit it to 10 boards, for example.

ie This is a valid error message.  Stop searching more than 5 boards.

According to pionline, Americans have $25 Trillion in retirement assets.  Considering only this and giving Bitcoin only 50% of the 1% of the crypto-currency investment, each one will be worth $7575 and that doesn't include assets from the rest of the world Wink
I would also like to urge everyone to invest 1% of their portfolio into Bitcoin!
5874  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 15, 2017, 01:29:30 AM
here ya go folks...a bunch of babbling buffoons baffled by bitcoin.... ba ha ha ha !! Grin

In the video the chick knew what she was talking about - the old dude was totally lost. She even called him out.

Newbies are not going to read that article. In the FOMO phase the video is way more influential than words n stuff.

She said to put 1% of your portfolio into Bitcoin (or I should say Crypto) so if everyone in the world (not saying they have that large of a following but...) puts 1% into Crypto-currencies, how much would that be?
5875  Other / Off-topic / Re: Exactly how much of you data is out there? on: August 15, 2017, 01:14:01 AM
Hypothetically speaking, if X was to know the name of person Y, how would X go about digging up personal details such as phone numbers and addresses online.

Asking because I saw a film (a while ago) where the hero goes online and find this info on a villain after knowing their name.

A long, long time ago, there was this thing called a phone book.  Everyone who had a phone had their name, address and number published unless they were willing to pay a fee to keep the number unlisted - few people did so.  In North America, you can dial 411 and ask but there is a charge.

Woke up.

Checked Bitcoinity.

Punched self in face.

Checked Bitcoinity again.

Did the math.

Made a quarter mil in my sleep.

I think I should just go back to sleep.

For about 2.5 more years.

Wow!  Financially speaking, you're set for life but...

I'd say you're going to get it soon.  Wink

I've seen mine get to 99.8% but I haven't watched it enough to see it pass that.

Ok it's enough. I give up. After 99.9% the Prob section disappeared and it's 12 more hours since then without results Sad

Can we ask what prefix you were looking for?

1Sapiens

Interesting, have you confirmed it can find an easy address like "1Sap"?

If you ran up to 99.9% and didn't find it, technically you should find it within 50% of the next try.  It's additive over time and doesn't restart searching through the same addresses it did last time.

Yep I did that check before and It has been successful in 10 seconds.

How can I be sure it will continue the work on restart? Does it save some hash/stuff somewhere? I will try another 50%. I'll let you know

EDIT: Ok i'm a naaab. I did the check with CPU and it was ok. Then with OCL I have a lot of CPU/GPU hash mismatch and I didn't know it's an issue. with -S option it seems running well but with half of Mkey/s.

Ok. I will dig deeper over amd driver problems after my vacation. I've found some threads from 2013, is there some solution for current AMD drivers (Windows 10)?

Past a few lines of output so we can see if there is a problem.
Code:
c:\oclvanitygen>oclvanitygen -d 0:0 -k 1Sapiens
Difficulty: 51529903411245
[25.70 Mkey/s][total 629145600][Prob 0.0%][50% in 16.1d]
The difficulty of 1Sapiens is very high for an 8 letter prefix because the capital S after the 1 has a lower probability of a match than other possibilities.  Based on one of my machines running @ 25Mkeys/s the difficulty for 1Sapiens (case sensitive) is 51529903411245 and I'm looking at ~16 days for 50% probability.  For an 8 letter prefix, you've picked a doozey.

I was using -i, It's not a must the S capital letter.

Code:
$ ./oclvanitygen -d 0:0 -i 1Sapiens
Difficulty: 805154740800
[26.12 Mkey/s][total 184549376][Prob 0.0%][50% in 5.9h]

The solution with AWS instances with NVIDIA GRID GPUs is still a valid solution? For a couple of bucks I could save myself burning alive in my bedroom Tongue

Yeah you could use AWS but use split-key generation to make sure that your key isn't compromised.
If you're going to do that, there are members on here who will generate keys for fees. It might be a little cheaper than AWS costs.
I think Shorena does it but I'm not certain.
