5901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core app and the unlocking of the icon… on: May 05, 2018, 03:25:17 PM
[1]
The other 2 screen shots clearly show HD wallets and the icon unlocking…
[2]
[3]
Based on the low resolution (blurry) images, [1] is Bitcoin Core wallet?, [2] I have no idea, can't tell by the looks and I'm positive that [3] is Multibit, which are all made by different developers.

It's not about being HD or Not, it's simply based on how they set and display the lock icon's function.

My assumptions are:
  • The Lock icon can be an indicator that the wallet.dat/file is encrypted, thus, there is a lock icon whether it's opened or closed.
On non-encrypted wallets, it will not display a lock icon.
  • There could be a list of wallets (in 2&3) GUI which has a "locked" icon if it is encrypted (none if not), after selecting & entering its passphrase, the wallet will open and display the icon as "unlocked".

Those are based on theories, I never used any other fully functional 3rd party wallet other than Electrum (excluding coinbase/bitpay/coins),
I could be wrong.
5902  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig died :( on: May 05, 2018, 06:54:54 AM
Almost all of your hardware should be safe, simply open the power supplies and check their fuse. If you find a blown up fuse everything else will be fine.
Do not do this unless you're a qualified electronic technician or confident enough to handle PCBs with high powered capacitors.
Seriously, this is dangerous and the problem might not even came from the PSU.

Yeah thats my only advice, try resetting the CMOS on the motherboard.
Another one, resetting Cmos memory isn't a magical all purpose solution.
This is the first time I saw a reply like this, "reset the CMOS" of a non-booting system.

It could be the Board (shorted).
The power strip had a short-circuit connecting the power[+], power[-], reset[+] and reset[-] pins which could kill a MoBo.
Try this:
Try to attach the new PSU and short the mobo pins, if you dont have power buttons on the mobo (?) Maybe you dont have restore on power feature.

Do you have PC? Remove the GPUs and put them 1 by 1 in your regular PC to check if they are dead...? You can do this with ram as well.
And since you're going to a repair shop with your PSUs,
I'm not going to recommend testing them by shorting the PS Start (green) and neutral (black) cables (I'm not going to say how to test them, no) Wink
A local technician can do that better with a PSU tester.
5903  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos Doesn't love the Forum Anymore ?? !!!!! on: May 05, 2018, 06:01:02 AM
Is this because of this thread that didn't get a response from the Admin?
But whoa, the cringe when I saw "love the forum anymore".

Better send an application to become a local board moderator or nominate someone deserving for the position that you can contact.

As far as I know, Mods aren't randomly selected or picked based on the user's activities.
5904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cannot find my BTC from 2014 on: May 05, 2018, 03:39:49 AM
If your backup private key starts with 5, K or L, the chance that it's a real private key is high.
Recovering your bitcoins will be as easy as logging in an account.

Warning: Do not trust anyone (PM) who's asking for the private keys, you must do it yourself.
5905  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Block time on: May 04, 2018, 08:14:23 AM
It's not like that.
Bitcoin mining is designed to adapt to the total hashrate of the miners based on the previous block.
The difficulty will always change to maintain the average of 10 minutes per block. "Average" means that sometimes, it doesn't guarantee that the difficulty can accurately "harden" the block discovery.
So sometimes, a new block was discovered in less than 2minutes, sometimes, it can take 30 minutes to mine a block.
5906  Economy / Services / Re: Yahoo62278 Sig & Avatar Campaign(High merit required)(OPEN) on: May 04, 2018, 08:02:34 AM
That is a lot of input addresses. Have you checked out the others?
I only found 3 so far,
The thing is, those're exchange/payment service provider addresses and the company (coins.ph) has the control over the private keys.

I already PM'ed yahoo about this and provided a screenshot of coins.ph app.

-edit-
Here's an uneditable old post of mine in a locked thread that I've mentioned coins.ph: How do you store your bitcoins?
5907  Economy / Services / Re: Yahoo62278 Sig & Avatar Campaign(High merit required)(OPEN) on: May 04, 2018, 07:51:40 AM
I hope you have read/considered my PM.
In addition to that, even Yodojodo's address (3Le1oPWrUUxd3N7eY3LEhseNhyjTQDSYNa) was used as an input together with BTCeminjas's (3CsLEvn8Sy6scPbK6pVo9q59CwSRXXPjKq) and my address (3LgUWbSkwvKoTdn8xexf7GqpVBRLwMs6TE) in this Transaction:
f7566545d06038852f67f19420d3f563ba753625e46355bd737561c3dd98c9b3.
There's too many (ctrl+f) to find another coins.ph receiving address.
5908  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sign a message in a p2sh segwit address. on: May 04, 2018, 06:45:22 AM
AFAIK The current version of Bitcoin core cannot sign any SegWit address.
Only Electrum and other 3rd party wallets can sign a message in a "nonstandard" way.

Means whenever the SegWit-signable update came, those signed message through Electrum can be invalid to the new standard method.
By that time, those 3rd party wallets might update to support the standard signing method of SegWit addresses making the old signed messages limited (verifiable) only to their platform.

It is widely known in the "Stake your Bitcoin Address" Thread.

In the contrary, Electrum's way could be standardized if core developers use its method (ThomasV is a core dev)
5909  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My solution to keeping cards cool as summer temperatures rise: Hydroponics tent on: May 04, 2018, 04:53:37 AM
Cool but how can you manage the airflow inside the tent?
The inside looks congested with racks.

By the way, here are some of the images from OP's album above, for reference. (imgur sometimes displays an invalid link)
5910  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Floating Island Project - French Polynesia on: May 04, 2018, 03:39:18 AM
Is this going to be funded tru ICO?
If yes, will the tokens allocate the shares among the investors or will be the base currency when dealing with properties?

I hate to be negative but, something like this (a self-sufficient/sustainable system) will constantly require external expenses and manpower for maintenance, considering that the owners (token holders) aren't capable of the hard-labor and "scientific" operations.
What would be the "financial responsibilities" of someone who owns a property and a token holder?
5911  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is this trafic normal For bitcoin core on: May 03, 2018, 06:51:09 AM
In addition, there's an almost complete information about running a full node on https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node.
It's worth the while if you got any other questions.

From the link (a little bit late):
Quote
It's common for full nodes on high-speed connections to use 200 gigabytes upload or more a month. Download usage is around 20 gigabytes a month, plus around an additional 140 gigabytes the first time you start your node.
Indicates a heavy (mostly upload) traffic.
5912  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: May 02, 2018, 10:59:00 AM
Are there any trusted vanityget forks that are worth checking? An increase in performance would be ideal.
Speaking of performance, have you tried using Oclvanitygen instead?
With a single GTX** GPU, you can generate a customized first 5-character address in less than 10 minutes, that's "fast" as long as you have the sufficient hardware.

Example: My address 1two34E2WcKXUNqnjSLKnc8fvmCST1iuW (two34 prefix) was made in just 6 minutes.
Not bragging since it's quite slower than others' but with this, vanitygen (Oclvanitygen) might be the fastest (standard address) generator available.
5913  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Faster and Autonomous Large Bitcoin Collider fork on: May 02, 2018, 07:26:16 AM
I extracted a list of dormant addresses with 5++BTC and it is only 71.500 entries in it.
Dunno why LBC search for the dust (15mln wallets) Smiley
Are you sure that those are dormant addresses?
Some are just in cold storage or paper wallets locked in a vault since 2010.

This is what the previous replies have told you: nobody would help you knowing that this can potentially hack their own private keys.

Haven't you found a key yet?
5914  Other / Meta / Re: Off topic has been inactive for 3 months. on: May 02, 2018, 04:24:04 AM
there is an awesome flat earth thread on off topic.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1009045.0
Checked the link and I saw that the OP was ignored by me and realized that the author "nobatman" was the same person who's trolling in the Altcoin Mining Board (last year).
He's probably just posted flat earth topic for the lolz.

But the reply about "Hollow Earth" seems interesting minus the advnced races in the diagram. Cheesy

Off topic now has less new topics but still unnoticeable to outsiders.

Should the mods just close it since it was pretty pointless anyways?
Every other forums got an off-topic board where the spam goes.
We now have the Merit system so, an unnecessary spam in the board is a pointless action for account farmers.
5915  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 10 part series with pictures and video of my Shed to Farm Build on: May 02, 2018, 03:04:13 AM
10 part series of my shed to farm conversion. All videos and pictures are on the page now.
https://www.northeasttexastechnologies.com/the-farm-build/
Better if you display the images ([img][/img]) right here in your thread after you rank up to Jr Member.
Some users are hesitant to click url/external links.
If you're the author, it's safe to include even the text as long as the source is specified and (dis)claimer about you being the Author.
5916  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How do i get my Bitcoin Cash using electroCash? on: May 01, 2018, 02:10:31 PM
Uou can't use your private key in case your wallet had a 2fa on any electron version above 2.9.3
That's because a 2FA electrum wallet consists of 3 private keys
which you own only 2 out of the 3 keys, the 3rd key is controlled by TrustedCoin (Electrum's 2FA Service Provider).
5917  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are centralized cryptocurrencies safe? on: May 01, 2018, 08:13:01 AM
Pretty much the same as: Are banks safe? or Is Paypal safe?

When it comes to centralized systems, it all comes down to their integrity. If the developers are trustworthy, endorsed by the Government/prominent users, it could be safe from a ban.

Governments aren't banning coins based on their design.
Did you mean: "Can centralized cryptocurrencies survive even when the Government bans it?"

BTW, the idea is a great alternative to classic systems that requires more solid security like (Central) banks.

@mdayonliner (B) has a central body too, where did you get that image?
If those were Bitcoin Nodes, it will look like a haywire. (each dot should have a line connected to each of all the dots)
5918  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An blackout can kill a mining rig??? on: May 01, 2018, 05:59:31 AM
Oh, the 'ol computer-breaking non-proper shutdown thing.
This is because of old Hard Disk Drives spin can't be stopped in the middle of the operation.
If it happens, the data might get corrupted or worst, bad sectors.

Most mining rigs however, uses SSD which is far less vulnerable to data corruption by power loss.

If you are using SSD, a surge protector is good enough.
5919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need Help Sifting Thru Recovery Data For Old Wallet Identifier and/or Data on: May 01, 2018, 05:05:31 AM
To lessen your workload, move the .dat files that comes with the names: index, data, cache and user.
A ".dat" file is commonly used by applications as a generic data file.
Your wallet.dat couldn't be named like those except if you intentionally named it that way.
5920  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Custom Token Platforms on: May 01, 2018, 03:03:30 AM
First of all, this is Bitcoin Dev & Technical Discussion Board.

Now let me rephrase that:
You... are... asking on your competitor's lawn about how to make an Ethereum token for something that's already there or as an improved version of it...
Lympo something I guess (< his/her post history).

By the way, a feature that benefits the hodlers by trading the token is an easily exploitable gimmick, opportunists will bite it.
Unless it was really planned to be like that because it's just the small part of the whole profitable "plan" for that token.

Please. move the thread to Altcoin Discussion (moved) where you could find the interested audiences/developers.
