The problems it has been facing currently are so severe for such a mature coin that it is not worth of using anymore. It is ridiculous how long it takes even to get 1 confirmation. Today it took almost 8 hours with me despite I used relatively high fee - 0.005 BTC.
Hmm. Mine went through in 2mins. Are you sending from bitcoin-qt?

There are some cool wallets around. I use QT because we are still in beta, so it seems best to stick with the reference client. Plus running a full client helps the network.

Good call. All I learned studying martial arts for seven years was that fighting is dangerous. Even if your opponent is a pushover, you could still lose a tooth or an eye. For a girl? No way.

The price of a bitcoin no longer has anything to do with Mt.Gox. It is pointless to consider because the market there is so distorted by uncertainty. The Gox price is more of a bet about the likelihood of ever getting your money out after a sale.
Alright, then lets conisder the price on gox then. There is no way the price will skyrocket if withdrawals are made possible. Ppl will sell off everything they have because they want to get out of gox ASAP. going down is the only logical possibility. Box price is 350. If btc withdrawals are enabled, then people will buy to arbitrage to bitstamp, etc. Only if $withdrawals only are enabled will the BTC price drop, and this won't happen. Any of those scenarios are specific to Gox, and distorted by their bad situation. Why not say bitcoins are $800? That is what they would cost me using localbitcoins.com.

All of the "things I will never be able to do with bitcoin" are things I have already done. I guess this guy learned a lot during the time he made two posts at the forums. What with his big discovery about bitcoins failure and all. Something tells me his foray into "bitcoin investing" has gone awry. Anyway OP, thanks for the heads up but I am all good.

Amen. It has been a struggle to evolve a culture when so many are always streaming in. Especially when so many newbies have misunderstood what they are in for. They heard in the news that they can get rich making tax free on their PC. Once here they get distracted by scams or irrelevant side projects. No wonder they leave frustrated.

Interesting ideas. All it takes is looking beyond a few buzz words and pre-conceived notions. Reggie can do it. Why is this so hard for people? Perhaps it is the loss of brain plasticity after youth. Or just that some have built a world on the old financial system and feel threatened by the massive changes happening now.

Why do you have the imaginary "new ice age" and not the scientifically proven fact of global warming? Warming is very frighting. Especially because there is no reason to believe it will stop before exterminating humans, maybe all life. Nature doesn't love you, she does what she does.

The smartest move bitcoiners could do was to buy 1 Oz of gold at with 1 BTC when the BTC was worth $1200$
I guess that makes me 10 times smarter than the smartest move. Actually gold crashed a bit right after I bought, but it has since moved into the profit zone. I don't know about any correlation. It may take years to accumulate enough data to see. But there certainly is an inverse correlation with the stock markets. For me, gold is a stock market hedge.

Sad, but yes. Stuck in the blockchain forever. You could see them sitting at an address, but without the private key no one can move them to another address. I suppose you could say that they are not lost, rather locked up.

|

I like to tell them that I was about to buy something but I couldn't find their bitcoin address. "Can you please send me an address so I can pay you? Because I certainly am not going to give out my bank/credit card info".

Bulls are optimistic / Bears are pessimistic
It's that simple. What you think of future prices could be bullish or bearish.
|
|
|
Just as a side note; you don't have to be synced to receive coins, just to spend them. For example you could create a wallet and some addresses then take the un-synced wallet offline. If someone sends to that address you wont see it with the client, but it is recorded in the blockchain. Later when you sync you will have the ability to spend the coin and see it with the client.

|
If your starting from zero it will take days. Transactions will show up as the block they are included in are downloaded to your client. (bitcoin-qt)

Tell us more of the future. Will there be flying cars? And who will win the world series in 2014? That's an easy one compared with knowing so much about a global currency network.

allow me to translate:
"i took your coinz lol!"
That cracked me up.

I'm still optimistic about bitcoin's future. I have seen drops before, no big deal. I only look at fundamentals. Is bitcoin still the cheapest, fastest, and most private way to buy on the internet? Buy? You actually use BTC to buy things? What are you, one of those fanatical nutjob koolade-drinking "believers"? Don't you realize that Bitcoin was created way back in November for the sole purpose of speculative trading? Of course I don't buy things. I'm just in it for the Ponzi.

In the case of a place like SR, sure the cops will investigate that. But I am not aware of anyone who has successfully gotten restitution from the police in a bitcoin scam. Has anyone?
