5981  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Trading View or Coinigy : Which is better on: September 15, 2021, 07:15:27 PM
The comparison will help traders to decide which one to buy for trading purpose ?

I'd say that if you do a comparison, maybe bitcoinwisdom (https://bitcoinwisdom.io/markets/bitstamp/btcusd), cryptowat.ch (https://cryptowat.ch/) and coinalyze (https://coinalyze.net/bitcoin/usd/bitstamp/price-chart-live/) could be added to the list too?
However, I expect TradingView have most of the fans.

and it's a pain in the ass even for those who have 20/20 vision.

I think that it's not even the reading that's the worse... One can get used to keep rotating his phone and zoom in or out by his needs.
The most painful is handling the quotes (especially the nested ones) in your replies.  Cheesy
5983  Economy / Reputation / Re: Laszlo and jercos on: September 15, 2021, 02:08:52 PM
Indeed, the name is there in the relevant post.

I just want to report that I successfully traded 10,000 bitcoins for pizza.

Pictures: http://heliacal.net/~solar/bitcoin/pizza/

Thanks jercos!

But that day nobody posted that he would have been actually ordering.
Maybe theymos could tell if that name came up in laszlo's PM, but I wouldn't make too much hopes.

Alora mici li se pun bete in roate.

5985  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-11] India's upcoming cryptocurrency law seeks to balance stability and on: September 15, 2021, 12:43:14 PM
But with Bitcoin, the government is really powerless. They can't track how much money is being received by the freelancers. This is the reason why they came up with a very authoritarian law a few months back.

That's correct. Usually the main reason behind stronger surveillance is not to avoid terrorism funding, it's more to find more easy sources for tax. And here it looks to be exactly the case.
This this kind of law many people working for Bitcoin will have to declare the coins and - in a way or another - pay income tax for them. And the normal, honest people will comply. Easy money for govt.
5986  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Frustration with third party KYC services in crypto platforms on: September 15, 2021, 12:34:01 PM
Some websites are using AI at first for KYC verification. Seems a lot of websites just have bad AI that can't understand a single thing on images. My friend wanted KYC verification in one casino and despite the fact that everything was clear on image, he was unable to verify. At first AI was telling that there was light issue on his face, then it couldn't read the text on passport. He had Huawei P8 and this phone doesn't really take bad images, you can check it yourself.
Finally, he had to go in their local office and give his card to operator and then he was verified in a second. He didn't have a verification problem on Binance, he was verified in 1-2 minutes and in this case again, the photo was taken under the same conditions.

I had - some years ago - a similar issue. I contacted the support and I was told that the automated tool was believing that the ZIP code of the street from my address is different (+1) than the actual/real one. I had to put the other zip code in the address I've submitted (edit address) and then the papers were accepted.
The reasons are various. The tools are far from perfect. So the proper solution usually is to ask the support for help, instead of guessing.
5987  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: will electrum wallet be backward compatible in near future ? on: September 15, 2021, 12:02:49 PM
or should i store copy of electrum's source code along with my seed phrase, for future use ? you know for worst case scenarios ?
so i could compile it then and could access my coins.

If you want to go on this path (storing source code), the source code from https://github.com/FarCanary/ElectrumSeedTester should be enough.
It's browser based and with it you can retrieve the private keys for your seed; and the tools/wallets will always allow import of private keys.

But as said, the chances you cannot recover from Electrum seed in the future are slim to none.
5988  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BITCOIN WALLET on: September 15, 2021, 08:55:19 AM
I’m talking from personal experience where someone was very irresponsible and lost a significant amount of coins, and then I was the one who was most responsible for it - because I made someone deal with it at all - it’s that classic accusation “that you didn’t mention Bitcoin, I wouldn't lose money". I paid a loss out of my own pocket for someone not to blame me for something my whole life, but this is the last time I will allow myself something like that.

Sad story. The lesson should be to tell people clearly (and emphasize too!) that it's completely their decision for what they do with their money, whether you do this online or in real life.

I will not exaggerate if I say that from my personal experience at least 90% of people are not ready to be their own bank, and anyway they are only interested in how to profit, preferably in a very short time.

100% correct. And most people prefer to blame anybody else than themselves when something goes wrong.

I made a decision a long time ago, I will not help anyone to invest in crypto if that person does not understand some basic things before, and if they will keep their coins online or in a mobile/desktop wallet on devices they use every day for various activities. Then it's just a question of when something bad will happen, and then it's usually someone else's fault that it happened.

For newbies I lately recommend HW exactly because of this. Then the chance that the blame is on me decreases greatly.
5989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cannot recover electrum wallet with 12 seed electrum phrase on: September 15, 2021, 08:42:39 AM
(this is no longer possible on newer versions of Electrum)

Interesting. Thank you.
I've corrected the other post to match the actual reality.
5990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Algorithm will still be Surviving, Used & Secure in 25 Years time? on: September 15, 2021, 08:15:18 AM
So basically everything in that list comes under 2 categories which are PoS & PoW?

Even worse. You had DAG, which is the "database structure" used by certain coins instead of blockchain. Then there was PoW and some of the PoW algos, then PoS and of some ways of having PoS.
You wrote even CryptoNight which I don't know if any coins still use it, at least Monero has moved from CryptoNight to RandomX.

The environmentalists will say nuclear risk will destroy the planet so I doubt PoW will flourish under nuclear energy, it has to be renewable energy for PoW

Are you aware of the differences between nuclear fusion (I wrote about) and nuclear fission (used in Chernobyl)?
5991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cannot recover electrum wallet with 12 seed electrum phrase on: September 15, 2021, 07:31:57 AM
Try that page: https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ (legit!)
~
Then enter your seed (if it is indeed BIP39) and then play with BIP32/BIP44/BIP49/BIP84/BIP141 paths & addresses.

The seed generated by Electrum is not compatible (may need better word here) with this.

Electrum can use the standard BIP39 seed if you select the checkbox, but when it generates new seed, that one contains some extra versioning info. The seed words are from the same list, and this can be confusing though.

So if you put Electrum seed into Ian Coleman site I expect you end up with different addresses you will get "invalid mnemonic".

Edit: correction
5992  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey running his own Bitcoin node on: September 15, 2021, 07:26:16 AM
Maybe I've lost faith in humanity but whenever I see something like this I immediately remember Elon Musk and others like him who started the same way and people thought it is going to help "in popularization of bitcoin" but it ended up only giving them some popularity which they abused in the end.

I agree 100% that it's all about his image, about his popularity.
But for now I see a difference though: Jack has to maintain a good image in bitcoin community for the sake of his businesses, whether we talk about Square, or his upcoming hardware wallet or whatever he has in mind. On the other hand most of Elon's businesses are - by far - unrelated to crypto/bitcoin and he has his own destructive way to abuse his popularity, proven by his past, even before the bitcoin story.
5993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor buy the bitcoin.Bitcoin prices are likely to rise. on: September 14, 2021, 05:55:49 PM
Until now, I'm still wondering how much cash Michael Saylor and MicroStrategy have

I can tell how much Bitcoin: around 114041BTC
There's a topic about it, but it's outdated now. But if you follow there the correct links you end up at this spreadsheet showing up-to-date amount, including the buy from yesterday.

I've read somewhere that they're selling shares and such for buying Bitcoin. I don't think that he actually keeps much cash (fiat) at hand.
5994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Algorithm will still be Surviving, Used & Secure in 25 Years time? on: September 14, 2021, 05:07:54 PM
I understand Bitcoin is PoW

But do you understand that SHA-256, Scrypt, Equihash and many others from that list are PoW algorithms? That list looks like a salad of terms, really...

I expect that in 25 years literally everything will be different. For example, there's a good chance nuclear fusion will be available until then making electricity basically for free and becoming a game changer for PoW. PoS was shown by plenty of coins that can bring the price to nearly zero in a couple of years, hence it has the potential to bring the demise for Ethereum.
5995  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin in 2022? on: September 14, 2021, 04:48:30 PM
Experts' opinions are needed.

Experts in what? In reading the crystal ball? I'm not sure what you expect. You want to be lied to? If not, just go by this reply, it's pretty good.
All I'd add is to not get your expectations too high. This way Bitcoin will not disappoint you and will keep bringing wonderful surprises.
5996  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: different instances of Electrum on Tails (without persistence) on: September 14, 2021, 02:31:03 PM
It will do the trick, but from what you are saying, also Tails with persistence and 2 different wallet files (and you load up one or another as you wish) should do the same job, easier.

Another thing that came into my mind is that if you think that this is cold storage, you're wrong  -- you need 2 watch only wallets on a system that goes online and keep the Tails always offline.
5997  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Using Ledger on Electrum - "the sign path is unusual" on: September 14, 2021, 02:20:07 PM
So this is exactly it.  Regarding Point #2, I see that the address shown that the larger transaction is going to is in my "address" tab on elecrum, as a previous receiving address.  Does this indicate that I am able to approve the message?

I won't say what you should do, I would be uneasy too with such messages (and I don't know how good you checked the addresses, no offense).
I've sent you quite a long message in private, I don't know how your tx looks like, I will post it here too:

Quote
It depends also how you do it.
If you have value_x on Your_Address_1 and just want to send value_y to Coinbase_Address_1, your transaction will be

In: Your_Address_1
Out_1: Coinbase_Address_1
Out_2: Your_Address_2 (the change, meaning value_x - (value_y + tx fee))

Now, if you have made yourself the transaction as "Pay to many" and put yourself Your_Address_2 you wanted, this may be the problem; in my case this was it and I've fixed it by NOT using Pay to Many and instead only send to Coinbase_Address_1 and let the wallet do the rest.

Problem 1: I don't know what you actually done and you don't look as somebody that would have been using pay to many.
Problem 2: This kind of things should be discussed publicly because I may be a scammer trying to get more info from you and steal your money. And it should be public because others may also have good ideas.
Problem 3: I don't know if your Electrum is clean. I don't want to scare you, but another direction would be to uninstall Electrum, download it, verify the signature and install/run it again; just to make sure you don't have some odd Electrum clone that's trying something fishy.  --> update, this may not be the case if the second address is indeed part of your wallet

Since my use case differs from yours, since I didn't do multisig (and I don't have experience with that), I'll leave to the others find a way that maybe the Ledger won't complain. I think that such direction would still be option #1.
5998  Other / Off-topic / Re: URGENT APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE on: September 14, 2021, 01:43:38 PM
It would therefore be safe to assume iOS 14.8 patches the issue associated with the Pegasus spyware

... so yeah, those with Apple devices should hurry with the patching.
5999  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Using Ledger on Electrum - "the sign path is unusual" on: September 14, 2021, 01:30:23 PM
Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't remember the exact error message, but I've got some similar strange error (but it was telling about the change path - is there a chance you've misread the message?) when I wanted to send the change of a transaction to one of the funding addresses in my wallet. (But it was not multi-sig).
My point is that:
1. I'd agree with the previous post that's probably 2 outputs, not 2 transactions.
2. I'd expect that the large transaction is the change. In that case, if you go on this path, make sure it indeed goes to an address from within your wallet.
3. If you want to avoid that error, look at the transaction you make and change something (like for example don't set the address for the change yourself, if it's the case)
