61  Other / Meta / Re: [Poll] What do you think of the forum's usage of reCaptcha? on: February 25, 2018, 12:56:07 PM
It is fine other than:
1) The necessary use of JavaScript at the login page.
2) For people who log in and out frequently. This is not an issue for individuals such as myself, who are pretty much always logged in.
3) May be annoying to log in on the phone.

As long as it combats some forms of attacks, it is fine as is.

That's true, it can be quite annoying when were selecting photos using our phone. It tends to misalign when you try to zoom into it then when you zoom out as well. Sometimes when you try to scan through the selections, it  tends to select when you just want to browse. I just feel that its response when using a phone is slow. It's not a big deal though, but it can be time consuming at times.
62  Economy / Economics / Re: Beliefs about money and wealth on: February 24, 2018, 05:29:43 PM
Everyones hasn diferent beliefs about money and wealth. See for example 35 different ways of thinking about it here:
https://daringtolivefully.com/powerful-beliefs-about-money

One famous author, not my favourite, yet an influential one is Robert Kyosaki. In his book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", he examines two different beliefs and states that those believes will shape your success.

What of these do you agree with? What other beliefs do you have about money?

1 - Millionaires are greedy, that is why they become millionaires.
2 - Company managers just want to use the workers to make themselves rich and others poor.
3 - Having money is a question of luck, if not of "gods grace".
4 - Debt is always bad.
5 - To make money, you just need to have a great idea nobody thought off.
6 - Cryptos are the way to make money and be successful without having to put effort into it.
7 - To become rich I just have to believe in Bitcoin because many people have become rich doing that.
8 - To become rich I just have to be more clever and streetwise than everyone around to get my share of the cake.

Your turn to think ...

(EDIT: These are NOT my beliefs, at least not necessarily, is just a list to think. Is not the list by Robert K. either.)

Rich Dad, Poor Dad is a book someone really dear to me has lived by and I can say that he has lived a fruitful life. He may have not lived by some of the conditions on the list but he knows how to make fortune and truly handles his money well. Among the ideas on the list that you came up with, I truly agree in 5 and 8. We all know how something new can really make a fortune in this world especially if it's innovative and interesting. Take into account Science, a unique discovery can give you an out of this world opportunity as it can truly change the perspective and way of living of people. That's why researches are paid abundantly, they share knowledge that can help and guide people. Here's to discovering something new for the betterment of human race and the fortune that may come with it!
63  Other / Meta / Re: Merit rewards for Signature Campaigns! on: February 24, 2018, 11:42:13 AM
The merit system allows us to have the power of judgement, which somehow makes it subjective because I think we all have our criteria of what and what not constructive is. Although your idea has great intentions, I think the new system also implies freedom for each and every one of us to award merits to those who we truly believe are deserving. If a campaign manager is obligated to give out merits as a requirement for their job, they would be urged to give just because they are required. Also, sooner or later, they would run out because not all of them are merit sources. Let's give them the freedom to choose and just let them do what they have to do, managing numerous members is already hard what more to read through all their participants post carefully looking for those that are deserving? That would truly be time consuming and inefficient.
64  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Hit $20K in few weeks time? on: February 24, 2018, 06:20:40 AM
With Bitcoin, I learned that you can never dictate time because anything can happen at any moment. So when you say that Bitcoin will hit $20,000, sure it will; it can even exceed that rate. However, we don't know when that would happen since Bitcoin is highly volatile making it uncertain. Right now, the present can only be the one to tell us the state of Bitcoin. What tomorrow or even later can bring can still be so uncertain that no one can predict it because that's how the trend works.
65  Economy / Speculation / Re: what will happen on: February 23, 2018, 07:24:22 PM
When I was a newbie, I also had my fears when it comes to Bitcoin's abrupt decline due to it's volatility. It will take a lot of getting used to, but what you always have to put in mind is that Bitcoin will be worth it in the long run. Patience is truly the key here to earn great profits. It's volatility may lead to uncertainty, but do know that Bitcoin always come through, so just hang in there. Better days will come.
66  Other / Meta / Re: Some posts are deleting on: February 23, 2018, 05:34:00 PM
When I was new in the forum, I also wondered why my activity lessened from time to time. The reason is simple: threads that are not helpful are being disregarded since they have no importance or contribution to this forum which is why it gets deleted alongside all the replies that thread had. Sometimes, even "mega-threads" gets deleted as it contains numerous replies that are just repetitive and simply uninformative. We are in the journey of making this forum great again, which is why the moderators are doing their best in cleaning it up and establishing systems that would help in bringing it back to its optimum state.

To avoid getting your posts deleted, make sure that when you share an idea, it is interesting and new. You also have to assure that what you're posting doesn't resemble the replies of others as it would be useless if you would just have the same thought as everybody else. Don't be afraid to go against ideas or have a different answer than anybody else especially if you believe yours is valid, we all have our opinions and the freedom to share them in this forum anyway. Choose where you post and make sure it's interesting!
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investment strategy on: February 23, 2018, 04:38:04 PM
I think in order to have an effective investment strategy, you should learn to diversify your options and your choices. Someone once told me that for you to become successful in your venture, you should learn to explore, take risks, and have multiple sources for your profits. Maybe what you can do is invest a certain amount in multiple platforms that you're willing to lose at any moment (I guess you've heard this many times too) so that when one fails, you have others to back you up and still support you. Also learn about other ventures as well, putting some in crypto and others in another type of platform would surely help in multiplying your profits.
68  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-22] SEC charges former bitcoin exchange and its founder with fraud on: February 23, 2018, 06:29:25 AM
It appears that the SEC will come after past exchanges if they gather enough evidence that fraud was committed in the past, no matter if an exchange has already closed.

This might be the beginning of a hunt or maybe even a persecution of any exchange they decide to judge of wrongdoing.

To keep the government away from our affairs, the exchanges should make it their responsibility to regulate themselves, because if not, the government will impose stricter rules that might make it impossible to have an open environment for trading.

If they were persecuting former exchanges for merely existing and serving their clients normally, then naturally that would be cause for concern.  But if evidence of fraud is clear, then what's wrong with having the perpetrators investigated and charged?  That's better than leaving people with the impression that using crypto grants you some special dispensation to rip people off.  Fraud is fraud and exchanges shouldn't be above the law in this regard.  And why would the exchange no longer operating have any bearing at all? Crimes from the past are still crimes.  I can't imagine someone getting away with muder just because they claimed they aren't in that line of work anymore.    Roll Eyes

Everything that DooMAD said is on point. Wrongdoings especially those affecting the credibility and reliability of a person or a company should not just be forsaken. Despite the time that passed, justice should be served accordingly so that people won't just feel that they can do anything with cryptocurrency. Even though the aspect of decentralization is evident in cryptocurrency, punishment should still be served for those who uses this platform to deceit others. Situations like this also gives a wrong impression on the reputation of cryptocurrency. This is why people often think that cryptocurrency would always lead to a scam or something no good.
69  Other / Meta / Re: Can a bad post recieve merit and then be deleted to hide it, and KEEP the merit? on: February 22, 2018, 07:22:17 AM
It amazes me how people can become so creative when it comes to abusing the systems in this forum, they find a loophole and then strikes right at it at the best given chance. The system is new which is why it should be expected that there will still be shortcomings from it that needs some polishing. However, people should be mature enough to not exploit the situation at hand.  Hopefully, the moderators would be able to find a way to solve this sooner and the members would report the wrongdoings to assure the effectivity and success of this system.
70  Other / Meta / Re: Is it even possible to Merit would be cancelled? on: February 21, 2018, 06:23:23 PM
It's almost been a month since the merit system was implemented to promote constructive posting. I think that we are still currently on the testing or adjustment stage of it, so most likely its cancellation won't be any time soon. Also, if this system comes out to be successful in eliminating abusive users in this forum, then I think it would stay longer than we expect it pr even for good. For now and for always, do your best and view the system as an encouragement to do better and to be a good contributer on this forum.
71  Other / Meta / Re: Giving merits to an OLD post or thread is legal or illegal? on: February 21, 2018, 12:33:51 PM
That's fine for old posts but not for alt accounts. If you have evidence of this then make a thread about it with the evidence in Reputation.

I think there's nothing wrong with crediting old posts with merits especially if it has been helpful and informative. I've seen high ranking members here who goes through various threads and giving out merits to posts that were made some time even before the merit system was established. I personally received a merit from a post I wrote last year, so I guess there is really nothing illegal about it. However, giving merits to your alt account is definitely unacceptable as this shows dishonesty and improper use of merit. As hilariousandco pointed out, maybe you need to show a proof of merit exchanges happening from one alt account to another so that we can determine if what they did is really inappropriate.

72  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Not Yet Legal But Not Banned on: February 21, 2018, 05:02:07 AM
This is the perfect way to describe the current state of Bitcoin here in our country: not yet legal but not banned. However, there has been some news circulating around that our central bank is initiating the usage and acceptance of cryptocurrency for transactions in the near future. Knowing how my country works, there is still a chance that this won't push through and a part of me wants that to happen. I do want my country to develop and show progression when it comes to innovative ventures but based from my experiences and how the government is ran here, there would be a high chance that the cryptocurrency would pave way to the worsening of corruption. People of power here are very hungry and I am sure that they wouldn't let cryptocurrency live at peace especially since it's very profitable. I think that if Bitcoin was legalized, the taxation would be extreme but it wouldn't be worth it since we don't even know where our taxes go here. The "not yet legal but not banned" state is a pretty good state to be in right now. Maybe when the government starts to not be selfish then we can consider the involvement of cryptocurrency in our country.
73  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-19] Canadian Bank to Offer Secure Vault for Cryptocurrencies on: February 21, 2018, 03:19:28 AM
I actually don't understand why we need banks now to store our Bitcoin for us when the wallets that we own are good enough. I thought one of the aspects about Bitcoin that people loved is how it is decentralized and you attain the financial freedom you can't have with fiat. Bringing in crypto-vault banks would just defeat this purpose. Also take note that the bank establishing this idea is the smallest bank in Canada in terms of assets. Doesn't that seem a little bit fishy? We all know how cryptocurrency has been making headlines all over the world. I feel like this bank is trying to be one step ahead of others by having a crypto vault with all these features that they offer without understanding the true stucture of cryptocurrency. Don't get me wrong, the intention is there but there's just really something tricky going on here.
74  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-16] Spanish Government Eyes Tax Benefits for Crypto Companies on: February 20, 2018, 10:08:26 AM
In a country where in last years lot of corrupt politicians and businessmen have been caught for his fraudulency atcs(i know what im talking about...), i'm a little bit scared that this will not end well.

I somehow had the same thought as you did, okae. I am not from Spain but corruption is rampant in my country and maybe I get a feeling that when the government is  hard to trust due to their previous faults or shortcomings, it's hard to believe that they can bring something so good and promising without abusing it. Hopefully, the intentions here are genuine and that they aspire only for the betterment for their country's development. Here's to change and acceptance, may everything go well with their plans to promote innovation and flexibility.
75  Other / Meta / Re: can merit reduce account dublicate? on: February 20, 2018, 02:45:35 AM
With the implementation of the merit system, I don't think holders of several accounts would be encouraged to maintain their alternative accounts especially if their posts aren't recognized or merited. There are certain campaigns now that require a significant amount of merit scores. It would be hard for them to handle accounts and apply to campaigns especially when the requirements are not met accordingly. Maybe due to this, they would rather just focus on one account to assure profit.

Quote from: The Pharmacist
I think with some campaign rules in place, this forum would really get cleaned up.  It wouldn't even require much extra effort from the mods.

So I totally agree with The Pharmacist. With improvements in rules and its strict implementation, this forum would be back to its optimum state.
76  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin hit 15000$ by the end of this month ? on: February 19, 2018, 03:36:02 PM
I remember seeing threads last year about the chances of Bitcoin hitting $15,000 by the end of December and as we all know, it reached a remarkable value of about $20,000 when most people just aspire for $15,000. Bitcoin really does break and go beyond expectations, so I guess with just a few days left in the month of February, reaching the $15,000 mark is not impossible. We might never know, Bitcoin can even hit a greater value than what we most expect, just like how it did last year.
77  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Source Quotas on: February 19, 2018, 01:55:43 PM
This is a bad idea and the situation you compare it to (Police quotas) are equally as bad of an idea. I appreciate the intention behind it; you would like to see merit freely flowing to the posts you believe to be deserving of merit. However, merit quotas for the sources would change everything for the worse.

Currently there is no obligation for active you are, how much time you spend on the forum, how many posts you read or how you dish out your trust/merit. If we enacted a quota for merit sources, then it would be necessary that a merit source is active X amount of time per day, reading Y amount of posts and meriting Z amount of them. This would inevitably promote spamming beyond belief; if there are quotas and you can only find spam posts, you would inevitably be "forced" to give a spam-post a merit just to keep your merit source status and keep up with criteria.

It would serve to benefit those that don't deserve merit and it would put extra strain on merit sources, which would lead to them doing a worse job at distributing their merit, not a better job.

Out of 10 posts there will be a "best" post, but "best" will be subjective and the "best" out of those 10 could still be horrible and not worth a merit.

Everything that EthanB said is on point. Abuse in many forms has been rampant in this forum, let's not corrupt the merit system by promoting something that would lead to its misuse. There is a reason why merit sources are appointed by the moderators of this forum and it's because they know what quality is. You don't have to force them to give out merits just because they need or obligated to reach a quota. What will the point be if out of the 10 posts you submitted the "best" is not sensible at all? We all have freedom here in this forum, let's not suggest things that would not lead to the betterment of this forum.
78  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to go below 4000$ on Feb 20 on: February 18, 2018, 03:19:39 PM
I hope not mate as you can see bitcoin is slowly but surely recovering this month with the loop side down on it's price when it reaches 7,000 USD marked and now that it is reaching 10,000 USD marked again well let us just say that it can possibly reached 13,000 - 15,000 US dollar by the end of February.

Cipher-x_09 and I share the same thoughts. So glad to see that Bitcoin is on the good path after weeks of declining. Five days after the OP's prediction, Bitcoin luckily broke the pattern and is gradually rising. I am sure that most of us here are hoping that it would continue to take the good track it is in right now because there's a possibility that this is the start of its ascent towards reaching another remarkable rate. However, we all know how unpredictable Bitcoin can be due to its volatility; so here's to hoping that things continue to go well and that we're far from experiencing another downfall.
79  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Regulation Can Also Be Protection on: February 18, 2018, 02:12:00 PM

Regulation is a good thing it makes usage of bitcoin beneficial for the government and citizen but at the same time it looks opposing the basic nature of crypto currency that is decentralization. The crypto was found to be used as a currency without any intruder in between, now government will record the transactions by means of regulation. So we have to pay taxes and other stuffs to the government as using fiat money. But regulation will protect(maybe) the crypto currency market from illegal activist. So it is a good thing right for the government and for the citizen also.

I think if the crypto currencies were totally regulated the people may lose their interest on using it because it also looks same as using fiat.So there maybe more price fall in crypto market if more countries regulate the usage.

This is why the concept of cryptocurrency can be quite complicated, you enjoy freedom through decentralization but it comes with the price of being unprotected which can bring you so much risks that you may end up with nothing in the end due to its ambiguity. In your mind, clashing thoughts would be prevalent and you'll be thinking of what's more important to uphold but at the end of the day, it's the challenge and risks you're willing to conquer and take that over powers any decision. As supermine mentioned, Bitcoin is a decentralized platform. Establishing regulations would defeat this purpose making it not the genuine Bitcoin that most people know about. On the other hand, regulations are what would protect you if something unfortunate happens in this venture, a must in transaction you do. Take your pick in what suits your situation, otherwise try to make both aspects work harmoniously to have a win-win situation.
80  Other / Meta / Re: Delete unmerited massages on: February 18, 2018, 05:47:30 AM
Just because a post hasn't been merited doesn't mean it's not relevant. Users which aren't sources are likely to be more hands off in handing out merits and will only give it to truly exceptional posts.  I agree that there should be an option for viewers of a thread to only see merited posts once we have a few hundred merit sources but, to delete unmerited posts would be unnecessary in my opinion.

What Welsh said is true, deleting unmerited posts just for the reason that it was unnoticed and unrecognized does not mean that it is insignificant. There are a lot of posts in here that are overlooked but are truly sensible. It's just that threads get congested and you really have to say something new to get noticed nowadays. Remember, you would need both activity and merit to progress in this forum. Disregarding one aspect won't help you advance further. Just hang in there!
