61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$XVG] VERGE [POW][MultiAlgo][BLACKHOLE][Entire Line of TOR/i2P Resources] on: June 23, 2017, 05:23:13 AM
any chance the supply will get a cut in the future, i think what is holding back this wonderful coin, is the immense supply, if it can be reduced to million instead of billion would be better imho, i know it require a hard fork but its worth the risk

First I want to say our Dev Team is doing a Top Notch Job - keep it up!

Your suggestion needs to be analyzed.  At this point the space has gone into "Hyperspeed" and we need dramatic and intentional moves.  "Coin Reduction" would be a BIG MOVE; raising scarcity would increase value.

I would add that adding PoS immediately would be of great benefit as well.  It's hard to park your cash in a coin that doesn't pay dividends for holding while almost all other coins that share our objectives are providing STAKING incentives.  For the holder Staking represents some assurity during the inevitable "Pumps and Dumps" plus it provides a double incentive of value:  The rise in coin value (XVG $1.00) + the Staking Dividend.  For Hardware Miners it becomes a triple incentive if they choose to hold what they mine.

This is definitely a race, so reminiscent of 1999 with another emerging technology at that time.  I know by these suggestions we're asking a lot from the Devs but I strongly feel we have a strong community willing and able to support our Team in whatever is necessary.

So, Coin Reduction + PoS = Rise in Coin Value

Btw, Coin Reduction becomes very meaningful when RSK is implemented.

Yes to all of this.
This is not happening and it's a dumb choice on many levels. Dev has already discussed this. Read the post history before telling Dev what he should do. It's really assuming, naive, big headed, and annoying.

correct. i am not going to hard fork to take away users coins. that's absurd.

First and foremost the amount of $XVGs in my portfolio allocates the greatest portion of the pie.  Also I'm not "dumb" nor do I make it a practice to make "absurd" suggestions; I'm not naive nor am I presumptuous and I definitely don't have a big head - And just to throw it out there I was an Assembler Programmer before many, I would imagine, of the "Senior Members" were even born and yet I don't consider any of that a basis to make me a so called "expert" but like most on this forum I like what Verge has to offer in relation to its price.

Take away Coins?  Say what?.... I agree that would be, if you allow me, "VERY, VERY STUPID" but that's not what I'm suggesting at all.  What I'm suggesting would revolutionize $XVG and correct me if I'm wrong but maybe it would be a first in the world of Crypto.  A halving of circulating supply with immediate doubling in price is what I'm suggesting; in the traditional Stock Market is called a Reverse Stock Split, we can call it "Reverse Coin Split".  Here's how it will work:

Designate a block that when reached will half Circulating Supply while AT THE SAME TIME signal all participating exchanges, wallets to DOUBLE THE PRICE when that block is hit on the chain.  To a certain extent Kraken did something similar with my account with ETH/ETC I've had double coins ever since that fork.

This suggestion is open for discussions but the main objective is to overcome the "Psychological Barrier" related to circulating supply.  If you'd like to see the barrier for yourself study the "Price to Supply Ratio" of the top 100 Coins and you'll see it.  Things are moving too fast now and powerful new players are entering the space.  It's just a matter of time till a new "Coin" a new "DAO" if you would, with the objective of being a transactional or micropayment Currency hits the space.

We have a slice of time in which we could become Relevant and if we miss the now in becoming "Great" it would be very difficult to do it in the face of a new coin created on the basis of the "Wisdom of the Crowd" and all the collective wisdom from all the errors made from existing Coins.

Cheers!  Go, go $XVG

Hello everybody,

I do appreciate what Kryptomaniac proposed. I am a financial science enthusiast. A stock merge. This may be a marvelous idea. The number of coins outstanding halves while the price per coin doubles, thus preserving the total market value of the asset. For example, 1000 units with 1 EUR per units gives 1*1000 EUR total; 500 units with 2 EUR per unit gives 2*500 EUR total, and so forth: 3*(1000/3)... This seems to be a very good idea. I am not a programmer. But if this is feasible after the developers properly evaluate the how and are persuaded that it should be done, hey this may be a game changing rule. Wow!

Hello everybody,

I need to understand some things with the XVG web wallet.

1.
The current balance in my web wallet is not reflected by the prohashing block explorer
https://prohashing.com/explorer/Verge/
My XVG address is DRQzMiThNaSsUEok8Nos8gKDKuQGyBCkTu.
The prohashing block explorer indicates 24 XVG as current balance, while in reality the balance is 4.88431600.

2.
A problem connected with the previous one is that the block explorer shows a transaction I have never made. Specifically, I have never withdrawn 9.8 XVG from the address.
When I first saw this transaction I was scared because I thought that someone had used my wallet. Then I tried to rationalize and withdrew the entire balance to check if I could do that. I managed to withdraw, which showed that the wallet amount, which was greater than the prohashing amount, was the real one.
Can anyone explain what's going on here?

3.
When a withdrawal is effected, there is no indication about the network fee being charged. The withdrawal is executed, BUT if the entire balance is withdrawn this will result in a negative balance, which can be corrected only by adding funds to somehow unblock a pending payment. This actually happened to me: the payment got unblocked as soon as the negative balance was solved by adding funds.

Thanks in advance to anyone who wants to reply.

Hello everybody,

I downloaded and installed the XVG wallet on my mac.
Since I would like to back up the wallet, I need to find the XVG folder and detect the wallet.dat file.
Where can I find it. I unhid all the files on the computer, but still can't find the XVG-related folder with the DAT file.

Help me out on this one.

You can back up the wallet from the top menu then save it to a location of your choice. No need to find files in the finder.

FILE > BACKUP

Thanks. I understand. BUT in case I need to reinstall my OS and XVG wallet, how can I restore my DAT file? Where do I need to place it? There must be some file in the newly reinstalled software that needs to be replaced with the backup I have. Am I correct? If not, please explain how restoring works.

Thanks in advance!

65  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Polybius bank it is a scam? on: June 08, 2017, 03:59:32 PM
Polybius is a project based in Estonia, which is an antibitcoin and antycrypto country. The country boasts they are technologically advanced. They are for sure. BUT from a crypto standpoint, I would just stay away. Do not trust them. Estonia is the darling of the EU. They are significantly subsidized. They want to be protected, which is why they do as they say. Polybius is endorsed by the Euro Parliament, which makes this project absurd. They want BTC in exchange for their token (PLBT). In what context? A country which is patently against the crypto space. Take Estonia for all smart technology related initiatives, superfast Internet, digitalization of bureaucracy. BUT crypto is not a thing that Estonia embraces. Polybius may appear to be legit. It is from a legal standpoint. And yet, it is a scam from an intellectual viewpoint, which is quite important, I believe.

I would need a legal clarification. While going through the Terms, I read this:

"COMPANY DOES NOT REPRESENT OR WARRANT THAT THE WTT TOKENS ARE RELIABLE, CURRENT OR ERROR- FREE, MEET PURCHASER’S REQUIREMENTS, OR THAT DEFECTS IN THE WTT TOKENS WILL BE CORRECTED; AND (C) COMPANY CANNOT AND DOES NOT REPRESENT OR WARRANT THAT THE WTT TOKENS OR THE DELIVERY MECHANISM FOR WTT TOKENS ARE FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS."

I need to understand the substance of this term (11, Disclaimers). Bold is mine, and this is specifically what needs clarifying.

Another dubious point is at pag. 3 of the Terms:

"Purchaser shall not purchase WTT Tokens for any uses or purposes other than to use WTT Tokens as provided in the White Paper, including, but not limited to, any investment, speculative or other financial purposes."

Again, bold is mine.

How can this not be an investment or a financial context? Tokens will get listed and are thus subject to demand and supply.

I would need elucidations on the two points reported above.

In order to accelerate a response I may contact GigaWatt directly.

Hello,

This is a standard language used in agreements to buy product tokens. Our legal consultants have used this language in the other token sales they have worked on.

As for your conserns regarding tokens, we also engage independent auditors, who carefully check the smart contract code for security, benefits and other possible issues in connection with the attack surface.

As for the language about an investment, WTT token is a useful product rather than any kind of securities so we’re obliged to make sure that we describe it in the appropriate terms.

I would like to add a consideration on the legal terms matter. Though I may respect a company and the initiatives it has, it is crucial to create an agreement that is balanced, meaning that it should show that the company concerned takes its own fundamental responsibility in doing things at their best. "Best effort" in providing a service and assisting the users should be contemplated by the legal mindset because it manifests care towards those who commit to believing in the validity of a project. There should be commitment on both sides: the purchasers (investors, though the term "investment" is not contractually used) and the company providing the service.
That said, I am definitely interested in the WTT project.

I don't think "best efforts" are covered by legal terms  Roll Eyes

"Best effort" may not be covered by legal terminology, but "force majeure" is  Huh

I understand the existence of a legal standard in the production of token contracts. However, the meaning conveyed by the words is important.
I certainly recognize that a guarantee that a token works can't be provided. What could have been specified in the contract is the "best effort" term, meaning that the company would do their best to have a properly functioning token.
Without this specification, I'm using the good faith of the company: I'm hoping that the company will do its best to provide a well-behaving token.

All ICOs with "technical legal description" have "this is not an investment" in their TOS/whitepaper ( at least the one's I read ) but I want to see an answer for the rest of your question.

I mean: If the token is broken, they should repair it  Smiley
The way I may interpret is that of course a correction, a proper functioning, cannot possibly be guaranteed in any manner. But it can and should be sought after. It is admittedly impossible to assure that something will work fine. However, what should be put in place is the best effort to rectify something. I mean: "I cannot guarantee the seamless and flawless functioning of this thing, BUT I will make the best effort to get this thing to function properly."

Hello GigaWatt/Cryptonomos,

what about Hayden Gill's position?
He is indicated as
VP of Sales, GigaWatt Pte. Ltd. However, his Business.com profile is not updated.
https://www.business.com/advice/member/p/hayden-gill/
Nor is his resume on Buzzdron.com.
http://www.buzzdron.com
Plus, his Buzzdron email is fake.
If I am saying something incorrect, please tell me where I'm wrong.
Is he the person appointed as VP of Sales at GigaWatt Pte. Ltd?
Where would it be possible to have Hayden Gill mentioning the WTT project?

Hello Bitcointalk,

I just received an email from Hayden Gill and I do thank him for clarifying his position in person. Which made me feel better. I can just invite him to join us here for a quick chat.
It's always a hard task to invest remotely, so it's awesome when an investor can communicate directly with those who are actualizing a project.
Thanks again. I have a good feeling about GigaWatt.
