I guess interest in the Klondike will spike again once the asics are actually shipping at a fraction of the current costs.

There is still significant cost in the rest of the components and assembly.  Best to apply the design to new chips if possible.

This board run Windows OS need USB driver?

This is a DIY project, if you're asking these kind of questions it is probably not the project for you.

Ceramic Capacitor VJ0603Y682KXXCW1BC 6.8nF - Factory lead time 8 weeks.. none ordered yet.
If anyone knows a place to order the back ordered Capacitor..

Try VJ0603Y682KXACW1BC, just a higher voltage rating I think.

Try Eluthria from BTC guild, I think he mentioned he could get them for 10-11.

Yes, China utilizes online tracking for all customs and can be viewed here with the tracking number (But Avalon didn't provide one):

http://service.customs.gov.cn/default.aspx?tabid=9405

I suspect a lie.

I think he is talking about the shipment to his distribution point from the foundry.  Customs screw-ups are to be expected from new operations, it takes a lot of care and skill to get import/export right.  I believe him, but I also think it is their fault, customs is just enforcing the law (lets assume there is no corruption at work, this might be a poor assumption).

Steamboat, given we're all going to need to extract the most we can from these boards and these is no high current power supply version coming, would you consider an assembly option to only load 12 ASICs on each board instead of 16?  My current plan is to remove 4 ASICs from each board (I've only ordered 4 boards) but this seems wasteful.

If a lot of people were interested in a 12 ASIC version that was overclockable at the same assembly price, would you offer it?

I have chips in a later batch and was hoping to get the chips from #1  'held' and then assembled with the later batch
I am in this same boat.

Surely there is a little btc making opportunity for you both here to gain a little swapping with someone who is in batch 4 and would prefer to be in batch 1? (unless we're talking <16 chips?).

BKK, how much is this following news going to screw you?

Wierd.  Is there some kind of law in Thailand that says everything is illegal unless a law permits it? (or is that article just poorly written).

If Microchip didn't come through, then Alibaba seems risky. That's probably where Microchip gets THEIR chips...

Microchip is the designer, they get their chips from a fab.  The problem is they plan production a long time ahead and, unless somebody tells them, they can't plan for blibs in consumption like this.  I can see them puzzling over why everyone is buying these chips, because of the open source nature of the project, the buyers will be all over the world buying hugely varied quantities.

Am interested in a K16 without ASICs.  Am wondering if you plan to roll these out soon since all the ducks are lined up.  Do you have a supply of PICs?  There seems to be a shortage.

Thanks,
Tom

Is your K16 going to use the v0.3.0 revision board, and are you planning on using the 25 Amp buck reg (IR3847) for the banks or the original 16A one?

As i understand it there is no pcb design ready for the ir3847, it is not a drop in replacement, the p/s section of the pcb needs to be redesigned.  I think I'm going to remove 4 chips from each board and overclock the remaining 12.  Alternately it might be possible to build a separate pcb with the ir3847 on it.

Hi, does anyone know a good (cheap) source of PCI-e power splitters, SATA to PCI-e, and 4-pin molex to PCI-e cables in bulk amounts? I'll need something around 40 PCI-e splitters, 48 SATA-to-PCI-e and 24 4-pin-to-PCI-e. Also, I'm interested in any good prices anyone's found for 550W 80+ gold PSUs.

thanks!

for certains values of cheap....  US. based, reliable, etc everyone loves monoprice

SATA

Molex 4 pin

Get some usb cables and hubs while you are there.

Today I've been trying to verify the Fan Control FET circuit so that the board can be finalized. So far it will only work at 100% duty cycle. I've tried different things but always partial duty cycles cause immediate restart/shutdown. I added a resistor from the PIC output to GND to ensure the FET gate drops to GND when off, but no better. I just have a generic cheapo 3 pin fan and usually they can be controlled with PWM, according to my reading online, but perhaps some are different. (Note I'm not talking about PWM control in the fan like 4 pin fans, but just switching the 12V line with PWM.) I based my circuit off another well known working one so this is odd. I'll keep working on it.

I did this in my miner with an optocoupler and a power transistor (2955 but that is overkill).   PWM controls the cheapo fans just fine, I'm only use 2 pins per fan, relying upon temperature to set the PWM rate with no feedback.

I'm exploring the power supply here.
I have a 100kHz 0.5V amplitude signal in 5mS bursts every 10mS on my 1.2V core power. It's showing on 12V in from PSU, and on 3.3V. Does anyone have experience with what can cause that kind of pulsation? When looking in closely at the 100kHz it's quite substantial spikes with dampening oscillations of approx. 100 MHz, 400mV. That's pretty big on a 1.2V supply.

I guess you would have put the ferrite in somewhere if you could?

Can you isolate whether the noise is in the ground or the supply?

Can you use a bench supply for the 1.2V by removing the regulator?

@All: are there any options of watercooling?
user toolhead created a very nice solution for Burnins Board and Burnin will actually directly assemble (optionally) his boards with toolheads Watercooling block.

so it would be very nice if I could use my pump and radiator for all my boards including my TH's K64.

There is a separate thread on cooling, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=208381.0.

This thread is for the electronics, firmware and drivers.  BKK isn't delivering a product, he's delivering a design - is different point-of-view from Burnin.
