61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: nvOC v0019-2.0 Community Release Shrinked Image on: January 23, 2018, 12:18:52 AM

Thats exactly what Leenoox says to use Lubuntu or some thing lighter.
But I think changing OS needs fullzero consent and its not our place to fully change his OS.

Ubuntu 18.04 is coming in less than 3 months
lets see how it works with gnome-desktop and new kernels, and hopefully fullzero will show up till then too.

Quote
nvOC boots in less than a minute and I dont see any reason to migrate from it and go for lubuntu or any thing else when ubuntu has the most users and many are familiar with it.

Only reducing the weight of the image for first. That will facilitate downloading and flashing. This reduced weight would permit smaller USB KEY too.

As was mentioned above by another contributor, a script that will be added to a normal version of ubuntu would be largely superficial. Not necessarily need to download a complete system as currently. It would suffice to say that it must install these scripts packages on ubuntu VIRGIN

For Fullzero, will we see him coming back one day?
Nothing is less sure.

I know we've already talked about all this, but the more time passes and the more difficult it is to continue without giving you access to you and other coders like Leenoox and Stubo or others I probably forget . You can not even edit the description of the thread and readers are forced to type in the entire thread to understand what is happening. Not really optimized all that.

I'm just a user, but I still read posts that say they downloaded version 19-1.4 instead of yours.

Ubuntu is heavyweight OS and it's desktop Unity is nothing but trouble. Even Ubuntu is abandoning Unity in its next release and are switching to Gnome which is even heavier (but more stable). I doubt we need a full featured desktop environment for mining purposes. Why carry all that heavy and resource hungry desktop environment when we don't really need it.

If we want to stay within the Ubuntu ecosystem my proposal was to switch to Lubuntu which is using LXDE desktop which is much lighter and less resource hungry than Ubuntu's Unity. But... Lubuntu is switching from LXDE to LXQT in the next release in few months which is even greater and doesn't make sense to build, apply tweaks and optimize it when in few months will change its core system.

We are stuck at crossroad with Ubuntu and its derivatives (Lubuntu) at the moment as major changes and new LTS versions are coming in 3 months time, not worth the effort to rebuild nvoc on a new base Ubuntu system now.

On the other hand, as my opinion is not very favorable towards any Ubuntu (or derivative) as being built for masses and thus introduce features that create overhead and inherit bugs we don't really need in mining OS (Bluetooth, printers, sound, media), I am leaning towards building linux from scratch by using Manjaro Architect (Arch linux based) or start with plain Arch linux and add only what we need in the mining world (latest kernel for greater hardwer support, light desktop, compilers, script support, php, Perl, etc.), which will shed all junk and bloatware that comes with Ubuntu and will be extremely light, responsive and easy on resources.

In my opinion this would be natural progression of nvoc as we will transfer everything from nvoc into a new base system with the added benefits of better hardware support (latest kernel), security (latest software updates), compatibility with new miners (CUDA 9.1), stability, less resources, etc. The beauty of Arch linux is the use of rolling system which means there are no new releases, there are no releases and end of life, the system is always the latest, you can take years old image and will bring itself up as if it was installed today with all latest software and packages.

In my opinion this will not steer away from fullzero's beliefs or nvoc's open source way but will help us keep nvoc up to date with bleeding edge hardware support and up to date softwate.

I am not saying that this will be easy or can happen overnight. There is a lot of work to custom build Arch linux, apply tweaks and adapt nvoc's scripts to the new ecosystem but once it's done we will have rock solid mining OS without any bloatware that will have very small image to download and could probably use only few gigs of space.

If there's enough interest and positive feedback on this, I could start working on it Wink

Man I love your idea!
And I think to the nvOC should be added some fee for guys working on this project at lest 0.001%.
Because you spend lots of time etc.
It has to pay off, me thinking
 Cool
62  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: January 22, 2018, 11:22:37 PM
Guys, is there someone who has successfully paid for Antminer S9's with USD? I see a lot of issues with statuses and some minor differences in the posts. I am planning to stockpile some cash in my USD account so I can quickly react if they open a new batch next week.

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens with my US wire. Timeline etc... I agree though that the best option would be to take the fiat and
buy BCH for a smoother transaction. Just have it ready. That was my path until I jumped the gun and actually captured one in my cart. Didn't have much of an option at that point. Felt I'd better buy it.

I paid for my L3+'s with a wire transfer.  After the transfer was complete you have to upload the confirmation from your bank to BitMain.  After I did that it changed to paid in about 3 days.

By confirmation i assume you mean what they call "transfer proof" - a pic of the actual wire page?
The only other thing I saw that was unique, (that I'm wondering about) was in the instructions from Bitmain it says, choose "pay all fees" when you wire payment?
I was warned by the Bofa bank person that Bitmain's bank may deduct a small fee from the total (after we sent the wire - mind you) and I do see complaining about the wires showing up short a couple of bucks. But BofA were adamant about not having an option for pay all fees. So I hope I don't get clipped that 2nd wire for 10$

That just happened to me, they recieved 5$ less i sent a second transfer had to waste 55$ thnk god i bought 6

i hope they dont cancel my order because the second transfer was a little late

Next time ill just send an extra 20$

Extra $20 is not too much.

On the order Paying page stated that they received $50 short!
How am I suppose to pay now? Make another expansive bank wire
or they will send me BCH address???

It's getting worth and worth Angry

Hi guys,

Re: Bitmain, what's the ballpark timeline for US wire transfers going from "unpaid" to "paid"?  I've sent the wire and uploaded proof. I can see it in my account.
Today will be the second day after sending proof and it still says "Unpaid". Not freaking out - just wondering what others have experienced as far as wires go.
Btw, i used BofA and it is my first time ordering with them.

Thanks
I have exactly same problem
and already created ticket for their customer support

Just installed the wallet looks interesting and I like it so far it has BTC, ETH etc.
The only problem for me as a miner I can not use it for BTC/BCH mining switching
To my surprise it doesn't have BCH yet!!! Another very much miners loved coin ZEC
is not there as well. Roll Eyes

Interesting when Enjin wallet will start to attract as miners and add BCH and ZEC
 Huh

Yes.  Just make the coin "NICE_EQUIHASH" and enter your NH BTC wallet address (BTC_ADDRESS) in the proper place in 1main.

Thanks for the answer
about proper place, did you mean 3main?

Sorry for probably "simple" question
Is it possible to mine Nicehash-Equihash in nvOC?

 Huh

One of my 1070 gpu used to act the same and I fixed it by changing riser (both sides), USB cable and the molex power cable
Don't know which one was faulty

I'll try to replace riser, hope it will help

I installed nvoc 19 1.4 it works fine except - auto temp control
I'm constantly getting this message -

sudo: unable to resolve host 19_1_4
Power limit for GPU 00000000:0E:00.0 was set to 150.00 W from 150.00 W.

Warning: persistence mode is disabled on this device. This settings will go back to default as soon as driver unloads (e.g. last application like nvidia-smi or cuda application terminates). Run with [--help | -h] switch to get more information on how to enable persistence mode.

All done.
GPU 12, Target temp: 70, Current: 58, Diff: 12, Fan: 30, Power: 50

I've setup PL to 150W but somehow it shows Power 50
Can you help me please?

I don't know if this will totally fix the issue but the sudo error re: host resolution can be corrected by fixing the hostname. In 19-1.4, there is an issue in that the hostname in /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname do not match. IIRC, /etc/hostname has 19_1_4 and /etc/hosts has m1-desktop. Edit one or the other or both and make them match. If you edit /etc/hostname, you will have to reboot.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response.
If I'm not mistaken they looks same

Open Maxximus007_AUTO_TEMPERATURE_CONTROL

find this line :

Code:
POWERLIMIT=$(echo -n $PWRLIMIT | tail -c -5 | head -c -3 )

and change it with :

Code:
POWERLIMIT=$(echo -n $PWRLIMIT | tail -c -6 | head -c -3 )

You can also edit your host name with

Code:
sudo nano /etc/hosts
sudo nano /etc/hostname

Thank you temp control is working now it shows my PL (150W)

but sudo nano /etc/hosts and sudo nano /etc/hostname shows same picture

77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining v0019-1.3 on: October 16, 2017, 01:53:06 AM

Yep, @papampi is doing awesome job and @hurvajs77 as well, there is no doubt about it. I'm not completely denying the fact of using WTM, my whole point is not to just rely completely on WTM json coin list, as it is not just covering the whole bunch of coins which are mineable.

Like I said before, I was very much interested in mining the highest difficulty drop coins based on WTM (purely based on difficulty drop not the profit), so I had that smartMiner, but when looking into the new ANN pages, I have seen lot of upcoming potential coins (can't see them in the json)

Just interesting what is an ANN pages?

Hi!

I tried to mine Mona Coin on Lyra algo, but when the miner starts, he closes after seconds! i didint overclocked at the test.
i have 10x 1070 and 3x1060 with the new NVOC

At the Miner:

ccminer 1.8.2 for nvidia gpus........................
..................
.................

Intensity set to 21
Starting on stratum+tcp://mona.suprnova.cc:2995
NVML GPU Monotoring enable
13 miner threads started, using lyra2v2 algo
Stratum difficultly set to 1

After this, short time nothing, than screen terminated.

Have someone an idea what could it happens?

nice greets, thanks

I can confirm that your pool details are fine, make sure your worker details are set fine.

Code:
MONA_WORKER="suprnovaWorkerName"
MONA_ADDRESS="suprnovaLoginName"

May be try to reduce you intensity a bit probably?

But where I have to setup my e Wallet address?
and where to get "suprnovaLoginName"?

I've formatted another drive with 0019 and it just doesn't boot into ubuntu now.
It loads to a login screen with user M1 and when I put in miner1 is just hangs....
Try it once again with HDD Raw Copy Tool. I had the same issue a few days ago and now everything works fine.

Might be a problem with Etcher and v0019.

Well, I was using etcher (Win7) for making v0019 image
and it works just fine
