Exactly my sentiment too. Actually I am pretty annoyed by the XMR / BTC ratio being so low, but there seems to be some improvement on that lately.

As i recognize, and as Monero naturally behaves, the up stream will be pretty rocketing  Cool

Hallo Zusammen,

Hallo 600Watt,

kein Stress, alles gut  Cheesy Wink
Super, das freut mich ganz riesig! Herzlichen Dank an ALLE!!!  Shocked Grin Grin Grin

Wäre glaub ich effizienter, was meinst Du/Ihr?

Nochmal vielen, vielen, Dank an euch!!!

68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 10, 2021, 12:27:21 PM
Monero was (and still sort of is) my favourite altcoin of all time. Comparing to other speculative coins with nearly absurd claims, monero is doing what it suggests: allowing you to do transactions meanwhile staying anonymous. People still can't realize how important anonymity is to avoid ridiculous wealth taxes forced down in their throats. Anonymity was my favourite thing when I first learned about crypto but people just don't mind it all now, joining markets that forces you to do KYC.

In my personal opinion there is a legitimate use case for both, leaving it up to you if you want and/or need to be transparent or not.
Let´s make a use case for transparency: If for a example a NGO needs funding, why should that not be transparent? Or funding of a political party or a fundraiser for a start up or what so ever.
For anonymitiy: If my employer pays me, nobody needs to know how much i earn, the taxes are still, either directly or indirectly, paid by the employer, and besides that, it is in the papers of my employer. Needless to say, that my purchase i do is nobodys business as well. For objects as real estates i can do that also, hence the value and paid price is also in the papers.

I think, this is a never ending discussion, hence a gun per sé is not dangerous, the finger on the trigger and the mindset of that finger is important. I also think there are two core ideas for crypto
1. Speculation object (as reals estate, Rolex clocks, E-Typer Jaguar) were nobody cares of the idea and the true value of the speculation object
2. Idealistic use cas

73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / XMR MONERO - crack monero wallet *.keys file to restore YOUR password on: February 05, 2021, 08:13:39 PM
Dear all,

in the past there have been affected users who lost their passwords to their wallet *.keys file, if you got the mnemoic seed you are fine -hopefully-, if not then you are truly scrued... Roll Eyes
Please keep in mind and be advised, that cracking a wallet *.keys file is ONLY legitimate if it is YOUR wallet *.keys file, all other operations in that manner would be ILLEGAL!!! This "how-to" is intended to safely get back YOUR password to YOUR wallet *.keys file.

Let me introduce you to John-the-ripper, also known as JtR, which is a password cracking tool intended for ethical -also called "white-hat"- hacking and penetration testing.

Official homepage with a mailing list for updates. Please read the documentation before you start working with JtR, hence i will take no responsibility if you brake your own system or another system and i will not be held liable for any other damage that may arise out of this tutorial.
https://www.openwall.com/

Official mailing list for JtR users
https://www.openwall.com/lists/john-users/

This "how-to" is largely based on the work of this kind user, who made a very good introduction into this topic, so this "how-to" is more or less just a quick summary of the great work! Please feel free to read all 5 sites built, i will serve you with the landing page of that topic  Smiley
https://miloserdov.org/?p=4961

In order to make use of the module that we need, we need the community driven branche of JtR, also called JUMBO.
As you may notice, i will base this on UNIX system, to be more specific, on a Debian based distribution.
For UNIX users you will have to compile that for your own system, there are no real binaries for your system.

You need some libraries for compiling on your system
Code:
apt install build-essential libssl-dev yasm libgmp-dev libpcap-dev libnss3-dev libkrb5-dev pkg-config

Installing video drivers for NVIDIA on Linux
Code:
apt install -y ocl-icd-libopencl1 nvidia-driver nvidia-cuda-toolkit

If your CPU supports OpenCL, then install the following packages:
Code:
apt install firmware-misc-nonfree intel-opencl-icd

Get the source files, either by downloading the zip archive and unzipping the archive or by pulling the git.
Code:
wget https://github.com/openwall/john/archive/bleeding-jumbo.zip
unzip bleeding-jumbo.zip

Navigate into the source files
Code:
cd john-bleeding-jumbo/src/

Compile the source for your binaries
Code:
./configure && make

If all went without any errors, navigate into the binaries folder
Code:
cd ../run

Do a test, to see, if you have a running binary
Code:
./john --test

The module that we are looking for, is called
Code:
monero2john.py

Assuming that we work in the JtR JUMBO /run folder, the wallet *.keys file is in the home folder, ~/ is mandatory

Place the wallet *.keys in to your home folder. You need to work in the ../run folder in JtR JUMBO

Issue the command in down below, in order to turn the wallet.keys file into a hash file for JtR JUMBO to work on
Code:
./monero2john.py ~/wallet.keys > ~/monerowallet.hash

UPDATE 20210208:
Find a offer in down below, tested, not checked if legitimate. Watch out, you need to upload your wallet *.keys file in order to get the hash for JtR to work on. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! This is NOT a recommendation! --> https://www.onlinehashcrack.com/tools-monero-hash-extractor.php

In this example we know, that the password has 4 lower lever alpha characters, thank fully. JtR JUMBO can crack passwords without knowing how many and what characters the password has, but as you can imagine, the longer and more complex the password is, the more time and ressources are needed. In order be efficient, it is good to know, how many digits your password has.
./john is the command to run the binary
--mask is an option by which passwords are generated (lower case alpha only, upper case alpha only, numbers, specials and umlauts)
--min-length and --max-length are parameters of how many characters your password has. Doesn't have to be exact, you can also define a range, but later more to that.
--progress gives you an output of the actual process, interval defined in seconds
--session is a name for the procedure you are running. If you have to stop the procedure you can resume to the session without losing the work your system has already done
/path/to/file in this example ~/monerowallet.hash

Let's start and give it a try. Please be informed, that with this hash, JtR JUMBO will not stop when a password is found, due to the possibility of finding more than one password.

Issue the command for a known lower level alpha 4 character password
Code:
./john --mask=?l --min-length=4 --max-length=4 --progress=10 --session=monerowallet ~/monerowallet.hash
Note: This format may emit false positives, so it will keep trying even after finding a possible candidate.
Using default input encoding: UTF-8
Loaded 1 password hash (monero, monero Wallet [Pseudo-AES / ChaCha / Various 32/64])
Will run 12 OpenMP threads

As mentioned, we crakced a lower level 4 charater long alpha password only. If you for example do not remember the actual length of your password, you can also define a range of characters
Code:
./john --mask=?l --min-length=3 --max-length=5 --progress=10 --session=monerowallet ~/monerowallet.hash

You can also define the --mask option to try ALL known ASCI II characters for your 4 character password
Code:
./john --mask=?A --min-length=4 --max-length=4 --progress=10 --session=monerowallet ~/monerowallet.hash

You can also define a range for the length of your password
Code:
./john --mask=?A --min-length=3 --max-length=5 --progress=10 --session=monerowallet ~/monerowallet.hash

As you can imagine, the length and complexity of your password is the biggest impact for cracking the password, the duration is bottle necked by the ressources you have, so go and rescue your password and get back a hold of your Monerujo  Grin Grin Grin

I restored from seed on the latest GUI v0.17.1.7 to be a cold wallet in an offline machine. I then generated a view-only wallet from it which I synced in an online machine. My balance is off. All transactions shown are "Received" (green dots). I was able to identify a recent "Send" transaction that is indicated as "Received" (green dot) so I assume the rest of my outputs over a few years (which I am unable to identify) are the same. I shouldn't complain since my balance is a bit more than it should be but I know this is gonna haunt me later down the line. Did I miss a step in setting up this cold/view-only wallet? What gymnastics do I have to do to resolve this issue?

Try exporting the key images from the offline wallet and subsequently importing them in the hot wallet. See (5):

https://github.com/monero-ecosystem/monero-GUI-guide/blob/master/monero-GUI-guide.md#send-monero

Thank you for your assistance.

Importing the cold/offline wallet key images after the view-only/online wallet had synced did not fix my balance issue. I also consequently did "Settings>Wallet>Rescan wallet balance" but this feature did not do anything at all. I even downloaded and synced the blockchain from scratch, just in case the existing one was somehow corrupted but to no avail.

To reiterate, I restored my cold/offline/air-gapped wallet from seed (i.e. from scratch) and created the view-only/online wallet from it. Since the "seed" is the ultimate in terms of crypto backup, I assumed that it would just work without any hitch right off the bat. Did I miss a step in my procedure to restore my cold/view-only wallet setup from scratch?

Furthermore, several seconds after GUI v0.17.1.7 Wallet and Daemon fully sync, it would go back to syncing mode again with "Daemon blocks remaining: 2". Sometimes, it would drop to "1" momentarily then goes back up to "2" again but would never fully sync again from here on.

Please try applying the ban list:

1. Download this file and place it in the same folder as `monerod` / `monero-wallet-gui`: https://gui.xmr.pm/files/block_tor.txt

2. Go to the `Settings` page -> `Node` tab.

3. Enter
Code:
--ban-list block_tor.txt
in `daemon startup flags` box.

4. Restart the GUI (and daemon).

This worked. Thanks! Do I need to keep these (ban list file and daemon startup flag) in there from here on? If so, does the list need to be updated all the time and/or updates would be incorporated in subsequent releases?

Regarding the cold wallet setup, do you know how to operate the CLI?

With respect to the ban list, you should be able to run v0.17.1.9 without it.

Can my balance issue be fixed via CLI then?

If your balance is on your wallet, it will be displayed by both CLI and GUI  Wink
