So why is s1d2a3h4 on the list? As a mod he decides who gets whitelisted and who not... Is it ok, that he competes?

I'm a mod too, we do decide who gets whitelisted, but we have no idea who our referrals are. On top of that, if a person that doesn't chat well gets whitelisted I'm sure another mod will de-whitelist it sure enough and ask the mod in question why he was whitelisted.

so mods can see who white-listed who? Man, you guys (and gals) have some neat-o toys. (:

We can't specifically see who whitelisted who, but we can ask the mods and there's no reason to lie about who you whitelisted.

Well that's not quite as cool, then. lol (:

66  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New BitCoin Service In the Works on: July 08, 2013, 02:38:21 PM
I want to see something that makes a serious attempt at replacing ebay.  Something that people will actually use, because right now, if you want to sell anything, and you want the widest possible audience, your stuck with ebay and Paypal. Both of which suck you dry of fees.

A p2p ebay.  You pay to use it, but the money goes to those that run the nodes.  And anyone can run a node.

One of the sites I came across as I was looking for a place to sell my own poetry, recipes, and digital artwork (some of my better stuff is seemingly lost, so I'm starting from scratch on that end) is BitMit, not sure if this meets your exact needs but it is definitely auction-focused (almost trying to go after the look and feel of eBay, too).

I do agree we need more sites like that, though. Perhaps its something we could even start up at BitSale, but right now I think we need to focus on the launch of our core service before trying to spread our wings, so to speak, and compete with other types of services.

I'll definitely keep this thread watched.

I don't have much BTC to donate, but I'd be willing to donate some of what I have toward making this a reality, where do I sign up as a supporter?
69  Bitcoin / Project Development / New BitCoin Service In the Works on: July 08, 2013, 02:41:18 AM
Hi everyone,

I know many of you will not recognize my face or username, and my involvement is rather new in the whole BitCoin scene, but I'm just as avid as any one of you in seeing this and other crytpocurrencies succeed in the long-term. To that end I'm planning on teaming up with a web developer to get the ball rolling. All I need now is to begin raising the funds for this. I'm willing to put every last BTC I have into this (which isn't much, truthfully) project, as well as a significant investment in time and 'real' currency (you know, those paper and metal things many of us still use) to get the ball rolling. I do need your help, though.

The name of my service is BitSale and our official launch blog can be found here. I would appreciate any tips you can spare to see this project to initial fruition.

For now you can send such tips to 1UZvLk9Uceyq9KmNV5N72cuqopJcxMM9V and don't forget to bookmark the BitSale Launch Blog to be kept up-to-date with the progress we're making and general cryptocurrency news. You'll also be able to find a link to the blog in my sig (after I make this post).

What is the purpose of BitSale, for those who haven't clicked over to the blog yet the idea is simple. A mostly automated venue for you and I to sell our goods (digital to start with) for BTC. Instead of long wait times for approval of this or that, their will instead be a user feedback/abuse report system in place to flag inappropriate content (and there will be content guidelines, but they should generally be fairly lax in their final form). We'd also be well positioned to enable conversions from BTC to LTC and possibly other currencies which would be completely transparent to either person involved in the transaction.

Why not some other service? Well, for various reasons, including complaints about long waiting times for approval to sell or join the affiliate network (which we'll also have available though not implemented until it could be continuously funded to ensure proper payouts). Also, they seem to be the only ones really involved in strictly sales. BitMit is more of an eBay styled auction house, which while awesome is not something we're looking to replicate.

There are some questions I won't have answers to, as I'm rather new to this sort of business (I own a handyman and electrical business as my day job), but I will do my best to get back to you all with answers. I'll also be reserving the next post for an FAQ and anything else that really doesn't fit here. Edit: Or not. Well, I'll just post any FAQ and errata on the blog and be done with it.

Thanks for reading, thanks for your help if you've tipped, and God bless.

I'm slowly getting to the requisite number of posts. Need to find more threads to comment in though.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to save Bitcoin on: July 06, 2013, 02:45:25 AM
If you really want to save BitCoin and keep the bankers/forex traders from having such an effect on BTC's value? Quit comparing it to USD. Take only BTC/LTC/devcoin/etc. and ignore these other fiat currencies. As long as cryptocurreny values are compared to fiat currencies and we do not set (and stick with) what we feel the value to be, then we'll continue giving the Big Banks and forex traders all the power they need to destabilize our nascent economy.

good day my group works to help people all around the world everyone needs to get involved to make this work...Ira

I agree, to a point. BitCoin and cryptocurrency in general is made for anonymous transactions and to get money out of the hands of government and bankers. Taking BTC or LTC or whatever to Wall Street is not the solution for any cryptocurrency, it's just recreating the nightmare we already have.
72  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is Dead on: July 06, 2013, 12:54:24 AM
There is always an opportunity for Bitcoin because the transaction fees are lower than Visa and Paypal.

Another opportunity is international transfers which cost up to $40 from a US bank.

And that is part of its value. It's nearly immune to insane fees (unless you really want to pay someone 10% to make a transaction for you, which is silly). I love BitCoin and I've only been in this for a few short days. I love it because it's something that cannot really be controlled or traced. It's just me and whomever I'm doing business with. How many Satoshi I have is my business and mine alone. If crytpocurrencies want to talk take off, they really need to get in gear in the advocacy department because I've only heard of BitCoin twice in my life before going after some. First when BitCoin first took off and then again when I started looking for alternate ways to make some money (about 4 days ago now).

Will never happen.  Fiat is Bitcoin's only link to reality, to real economy.  Just like the rest of fiat currencies, Bitcoin is created by fiat.  Unlike other currencies, Bitcoin's worth is not backed by political clout, military might, or an economy -- it's backed by nothing.

And who cares? If you hold 1BTC to be worth something you've created, whether it be digital or physical, goods or services then that is the worth of a BitCoin. Do you think people all of a sudden said, "Well, this gold is worth 1,000 chickens, so unless I get that I won't sell." No, worth and valuation came as people began trading with gold. Some people got more for the same amount of gold, others less. Prices weren't really fixed though merchants who could go long distances knew how to play the markets enough to make a real killing (but even that didn't come around until later). The value of some amount of gold was 1,000 chickens for some people, and for others it was 20 horses (which might be worth 1500 chickens to someone else).

The point is BitCoins (and other cryptocurrencies) will only have value so long as it is used by those willing to accept a certain amount of Satoshis for whatever goods or services they offer. The same was true of fiat currencies before they were fiat. Their worth was determined on how people bartered with them. When governments stepped in to regulate their worth, it pretty much spelled their doom due to future inflation.
74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People a lot of times forget that we live in a digital world on: July 06, 2013, 12:41:27 AM
You're right, a dirty person will make a dirty machine, but we are talking about technological advancements here. People get weird when we talk about absolute truths( ie value exist) and when it's common among everyone as in this case currency people always feel ad they are being exploited by the powerful and untouchable. Crypto cancels out this untouchable factor and everyone has to play their part in the laws and physics of financial reality

There is nothing wrong with absolute truths or morals, but we need to keep things in perspective, too. Computers? Great devices that may or may not actually help make things easier. Far from perfect (otherwise they'd never break down) and that goes for the software too. I love your post though and your last sentence, that is very true:

Quote
Crypto cancels out this untouchable factor and everyone has to play their part in the laws and physics of financial reality

If people would just get this and quit this worry about what BTC equals in USD/FRC/RUB/EUR/GRB/et. al and just get on with the reality of using them as replacements for those currencies, then we'd have something with value. Until then we're just playing in the digital sand.

I didn't even know it was a problem, I do like the idea of a private security force with me at the atm, though. It's a nice thought.

We do everything on devices. I barely even use paper anymore with the exception of my ass. Value has to be stored to retain its validity . Fiat gets stored in centralized banks? what a joke. Totally inefficient and has no mathematic logic to it. People are Fallible. a machine especially when it's a well built machine isn't fallible. I'd trust a machine over a banker any day of the week

Except you are forgetting machines are built and programmed by people. Even machines that build other machines are first built and programmed by people. I agree people are fallible, but to claim something made by (fallible) people is infallible is nonsense.

I like you're point. People tend to forget that machines are made by people. Like you said, even machines which build machines were first made by a person. What's the famous quote? "All computers are stupid". They can't think for themselves, they take instructions and operate because something is telling them to do that certain action. When you are on the computer and click to open a document the computer doesn't go "No, piss off. You haven't cleaned me yet". Computers don't have AI. They are programmed by a person and operate on that persons instructions.

Even an AI would have had to initially be programmed by someone, and therefore will have similarities (including any foibles) to that person and their personality. Group programmed? Will have a conglomeration of quirks and personality traits. Even if it were advanced enough to trace its lineage through several self-reprogammings it would still have all the human problems of greed, pride, desire for power, etc.
