Glad you like it!

Also a massive thank you to those who helped us with the coin creation Smiley  you know who you are!

and a massive thank you to dreamcatcher!  His pool looks smooth..

Apart from the first few blocks, I won't be mining this one, but for those who are (and im sure this will be a very popular coin) the pool http://gplcoin.com comes highly recommended!

if we all get behind this coin it will be a real winner !  but don't forget the other coins Smiley

Did anyone bother to research how a "currency" would be perceived by Star Trek fans?

Quote
According to Tom Paris, it was around the 22nd century that "money went the way of the dinosaur." (VOY: "Dark Frontier")

Under the New World Economy material needs and money no longer existed and humanity had grown out of its infancy. People were no longer obsessed with the accumulation of things, effectively eliminating hunger and want and the need for possessions. The challenge and driving force then were to improve oneself, to enrich oneself and the betterment of all humanity. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, TNG: "The Neutral Zone", "The Price", "Time's Arrow, Part II", Star Trek: First Contact)

However, the Federation continued to deal with other cultures which had money-based economies. The Ferengi in particular were scornful of the Federation's economic system:

"I'm Human, I don't have any money."
"It's not my fault that your species decided to abandon currency-based economics in favor of some philosophy of self-enhancement."
"Hey, watch it. There's nothing wrong with our philosophy. We work to better ourselves and the rest of Humanity."
"What does that mean exactly?"
"It means... it means we don't need money!"

    - Jake Sisko and Nog, "In the Cards"

http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/New_World_Economy

In the Star Trek Universe, money/currency is only used by primitive or corrupt cultures.   Grin

So no pool for 24 hours?

What about the CPUMiner dream was working on... will he at least get what he needs to put that into use?

Dream has the source to make the pool and his GPU and CPU miner!  He wanted us to release it, and we will soon!

It looks like its irrelevant anyway because someone is GPU mining by the looks of it!

I am working on it. There is an issue and I am identifying on which end it is coming from.

Once fixed, I will get the pool up and the CPU miner available.

But by the looks of it, i should just go ahead and release the GPU miner also...What do you guys think?

If you have it and it's working best to release it !

because if someone is getting 90% of the coins it really unfair on the other miners! everyone would love a slice of the pie ! Smiley

GPL version 2     - RELAUNCH -  Cool

Scrypt-jane

proof-of-work (CPU mining) until someone finds a way to use a GPU (but cpus should still reamin viable)

Proof-of-stake (Client generated Interest)

0.2 GPL per block (5 blocks to make 1 Gold Pressed Latinum bar)

1 million total bars (5 million blocks)

30 second block target

2% transaction fee

RPC port 8344

p2p port 7688

To mine these with CPU something similar to the following .conf file will be needed.

gen=1
daemon=1
server=1
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=HardToGuessUsername
rpcpassword=Str0ngS3cur3Passw0rd1

src
Will be released after 24 about hours,  we are trying to limit the potential fork that may happen if GPU miners start before the diff has risen.   While the network is weak, it is not worth the risk in our opinion.  We may release the source earlier depending on the reaction.. But we really are doing this help limit the potential fork and no other reason.

addnodes if needed for the first week of launch are;

addnode=46.105.233.209

but these should connect automatically and should not be needed.

GoldPressedLatinum - Forked - Relaunch today or tomorrow.

I want to make sure enough people are aware that to old coin is dead before we relaunch!

Please help us spread the word !  Relaunch may be tomorrow not today to allow miners time to time to grieve and stop mining to old coin.  Not a single Ferengi was harmed in the death of the old coin!

This is embarrassing!  but a restart is needed.

We were aware of a potential issue yesterday but we needed to fully investigate before we called halt on the coin !

Thanks to all the miners and sorry for your time wasted, full explanation above.

A special thank you to the person that first raised concerns to me yesterday and the hard work they did to nail down the reason for the potential issue.

The coin is ready for relaunch we just need time to get the word out that the old coin is as dead as a dodo!

Better now than before we hit an exchange !!!

The relaunch will be posted in this thread.  There will be no pre-mine again.  just first few blocks to test the network.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] GoldPressedLatinum - Broken BlockChain - relaunch today..STOP MINING! on: August 30, 2013, 09:34:24 AM
 Sad

First off all sorry to the miners out there who have been mining this coin.  Without going into too much detail (because we do not fully understand what happened), it appears that the block chain is forked with some users stuck on block 20262 and others mining with rejects at almost 70,000 blocks.

There is an issue where the blockchain is mixing with a different chain due to an issue in the code.

and possibly exacerbated by the fact that, the wrong ports posted on the other forum (where this info came from i am not sure)

Please be aware that all coins currently mined will be abandoned and we will relaunch this coin later today!  if you know anyone mining this coin please spread the word (use chat rooms, forums, trollboxes)

I expect to get abuse for this issue, but please be aware we did not have an inkling that this was a possible issue until we started to get reports from miners and developers.

A special thank you to   the person who initially brought this to our attention and pointed out where and how the problem arose.

People mining will need to delete all traces of there previous install,  and destroy their wallet.dat and all other files in the roaming folder.

C:\Users\your_windows_username\AppData\Roaming\GoldPressedLatinum

This is a hidden folder, so make sure you have turned on at Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization > folder options (view) > show hidden files and folders.

After you have deleted your coins and (i know this will be difficult) watch the startrek thread for the relaunch info...

Again please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of the scificoin team.   Embarrassed

Sounds like you are having a hard time!  I hoped this would be smooth...  does sound like there is some hope.  Only Darsek is based on cosmoscoin, I was not aware of an issue when I picked this coin to clone.   Sad

I did not know that! I guess the old saying about ASS U ME applies here.  Cheesy

I had just assumed both coins were Cosmo based coins and had only been testing with Darsek.

SO I am happy to announce:

The Federation CryptoCoin Mine has been switched over to stratum

I have tested it and it works beautifully.

The mining address port remains 4444, those who are mining will notice your miners automatically switched to stratum.

http://ufccoin.com:4444  works

stratum+tcp://ufccoin.com:4444    also works

I will continue to work on Darsek.

Well done Smiley

I will update the original post!

Please post your address so that i can send the bounty! Smiley for ufc

any news on trading KED guys?

KED will be accepted on the new exchange.  The dev has given me a time scale of 2 weeks for beta testing.  Then it should be maybe 2 more weeks and we are up and running.  no promises! but we will do all we can to get this up and running ASAP.

coins that will be accepted on the exchange so far.

Staple Diet:
BTC
LTC
XPM
NMC (maybe)

SciFi Flavor:
DPS (DollarPounds)
UFC (FederationCredits)
KED (Darsek)
GPL (GoldPressedLatinum)
ORB (OrbitCoin) [highly likely]

Any other SciFi / fantasy / Comic / collectors type coin will be considered.  For  example Sauron Rings etc.  But we do not want to grow too large.  Coins that do not fit into these categories will never be on the site unless they are very popular and can bring initial investment.  We would love to have a site without BTC and the others but this is not feasible as investment needs to come from outside the SciFiCoin world.

Please bear in mind that any coins with a premine, will need to justify this with clear plans for it's future and where the premine will go.  We realize that coins are not free to make, either time or money or both is required.  So we understand that some premine for the creator is normal for their time and effort.

Thought i would give everybody an Update:

I have been working pretty much non-stop since last night. In fact when testing new solutions to the mining issue, I finished a faucet for a different coin, finished enough of the code changes in CCEC3 to release test version 3.4.

I must have tried and then tried to fix about a half dozen stratum packages (Plain scrypt and scrypt+POS).  All the while trying to get a couple different versions of Pushpool to stabilize. i solved the "Too many files open" issue, but now instead they just lock up. No errors or anything, just lock at random.

All the stratum back-ends display this error when submitting a block:

Code:
ERROR bitcoin_rpc bitcoin_rpc.submitblock # Problem Submitting block 500 Internal Server Error
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/home/ked/ked/mine2/stratum-mining-litecoin/lib/bitcoin_rpc.py", line 49, in submitblock
    resp = (yield self._call('getblocktemplate', [{'mode': 'submit', 'data': block_hex}]))

And the daemon debug simply show:

Code:
submitblock
Sign failed

At this point I cannot guarantee uptime with the pools, I thought about temporary taking them offline as I cannot babysit them 24/7. However I will keep them up and when I catch Pushpool freeze up I will reset it.

I would HIGHLY suggest setting up solo mining as a fail over so you do not lose hash power. Cgminer will switch back automatically when the LP comes back up.

I will continue to work on the problem, but I have to sleep sometime...I Think  Huh

To the Coin developers - Cosmocoin is known to cause problems with stratum, a fix would go along way towards exapnding the coins. I will try from my end, but I believe the answer is with the coin daemon itself.

BTW, does anyone have experience mining scrypt-jane? With gen=1 in my conf file my processor is running smoking hot

It will run all threads at 100% as far as i know.  lucky I have a decent cooler on mine so it's not an issue.

Not sure what if any, flag to lower the intensity, maybe the is some command that you can do from the console?

anyone else know ..  I am also a s-jane novice.

Hello guys!!

Is there official sites of coins in plan?
If there is need I can help with sites.

Also it would be great to have some words with Star Trek fans online shops like http://www.roddenberry.com/ ,  http://startrekshop.co.uk/ and main http://shop.startrek.com/  for future acceptance of the coins.

There are many plans for the future! first we need to build a mining base, and spread the word. later Today or early tomorrow we will see the third coin released.  it's going to be Scrypt-Jane and will be called....

GoldPressedLatinum

But for now get your FREE UFC coins (free federation Credits) 100 (2 x blocks) each.

scificoin, if I could make a small request, could the next coin (I'm assuming Gold Pressed Latinum) not be premined? Bounties could be paid with denominations of the other coins in the Star Trek inspired group.

The reason for this request is I think this is great fun and I really want these coins to succeed. My feeling is that, if you have a 'flagship' coin that is not premined/has a fair release, it could be picked up by the traditional Crypto-Currency trading sites and give credibility to the whole brand of scificoins. It would make the next steps of having an exchange for all scifi coins, and giving those arbitrary values much easier.

Just my 2 Darsek Smiley

That is a fair request!  We will abide by this!  we will post here!  We will not premine this one at all.  Will be back intouch tomorrow !

How can you forget Gold Pressed Latinum???  I have wanted to make GPL for some time now. lol

Me being a Coin collector for some time. I thought of even coming out with GPL talk about with others
to release a coin, they say it is Hard Work that I can not put in now.

But Happy to see that somebody jump on it. Hope you guys stay with these coins even if you
guys are looking to make money or not, I love the that you guys came out with these coins.

Making a Trekkie very happy. Grin

Hey Xaltotun. Do you know the exchange rate for Quatloos to Federation Credits. I do not think it is very much since the occupation oops, I mean the help they had given to the Bajorans after Cardassians did their occupation of their planet. I got to bet on some Thall fights back in the day, But it has been a nightmare trying to find one nowadays, kinda hard finding one nowadays because most are educated after Kirk had free his crew members, messing it up for the rest of us.

But I will mine Quatloos as well. It will bring back to my days on Triskelion. Betting on Thall fights with the Quatloos i got from the work i was doing for the Providers.

Hey heres a thought get enough of these scifi coin together there could be one exchange for all these scifi currency. With just Star Trek currency i see it but, others could be fun to trade specific on own exchange, or stupid idea all together probably most likely.

Others as well From Star Trek Traded as currency is

Beryllium - is an alkaline earth metal, one of the basic atomic elements and number 4 on the periodic table.

The Dirak - a unit of currency used by the Dominion member the Karemma.

The Dorak - a monetary unit used on Barkon IV in the village where Garvin was town magistrate

The Frang - a unit of currency in Takar

The Isik - a unit of currency preferred by the Vlugtan government and was interchangeable (or easily exchangeable) with latinum.

The Kelada - a monetary unit used by a pre-warp civilization on a Class M planet in the Delta Quadrant.

Kevas - are used commonly for traded goods among merchants during the 23rd and 24th centuries

The Lek - a Cardassian unit of currency.

The Lita - a form of money used on Bajor during the 2370s.

The Renn - is the Mari unit of currency.

Transporter Credits - a rationed unit of exchange that allows for use of transporters on Earth in the 24th century. They are used at Starfleet Academy. It is not known if they are used elsewhere on Earth or off planet as well.

A Voucher is a unit of exchange. On Ophiucus VI, Harcourt Mudd once used fake Federation Vouchers to fool two miners out of a year's supply of dilithium crystals.

A Credit Chip - a device used for the transfer of money in the 21st century. It was similar to a debit card and could be inserted into most computers and served as a general checkbook.

Dilithium Crystals - traded but not recommended Wink

Sorry for the long post guys will try not to do this again.

Don't worry this is our plan!   we wanted to keep it all quite until it's ready though !   the domain is already purchased.  We will release the coins first slowly over time and then there will be an exchange at scificoin.org

watch this space.
