Sometimes Reddit is wonderful. Vitalik Buterin and other heavyweights discuss Counterparty.

Because there are so many free news streams, I think it would be difficult to monetize a news feed. Is there something unique about your news or information that potentially makes it worth a few cents or GEMS to a user?

(I realize that this might be part of a much bigger conversation about the need to pay reporters and writers for their original work, but I am just trying to get a sense for what your product is.)

@Spartacuss: I'm going to assume you're part of the Gems dev team, and reply accordingly.

I am flattered, but, alas, I am only a fan of this project and a likely investor. Thank you for your detailed response.

Like Ads ? i certainly wouldnt charge someone to view my postings....oh man if there was a window shopping tax....just to look at stuff and get charged for features...NAH  Roll Eyes

If what you wrote was in response to my message then; No, not like ads. News is not an ad.

What kind of news? Like Announcements about Gems?

Now would I run a page about GEMS? I have nothing to do with the project.

When I say news, I mean real-world community news that people pay money for, that kind of news.

But why are we so hung up on news. It could be any information with value which people would be willing to money for.

Because there are so many free news streams, I think it would be difficult to monetize a news feed. Is there something unique about your news or information that potentially makes it worth a few cents or GEMS to a user?

Very promising coin! I am keeping an eye on it!

"promising"?
Nxt doesn't just make promises; it keeps them.

Thank you, freeworm.
And thank you also for stepping in to support the TOKEN/UNITY/SuperNet ICO when Poloniex was unable to continue. I bought a bunch on Bter with BTC.

The asset gained NAV again. Now at 5.6 NAV and more assets for free to come. Amazing, you can literally buy the inventary at a 15-17% discount and still have the value from the free future assets!

Which is the ID of the official jl777hodl?

And can someone provide a desctiption how this works and why I should purchase this asset? What gives it value?

http://www.nxtreporting.com/?as=6932037131189568014

NXT-2AHU-UXZW-K9Q2-HENLW is the jl777hodl account where the value is derived from

Thank you! As far as I understand correctly, there are no dividends, nor can you withdraw any asset in exchange for jl777hodl. What gives it value then?

This is exactly the right question, and we need a better answer for it. Because we, in the West, have been buying into and trading derivatives for a decade now, we (with short memories) forget that a financial product must be tied to something. So mcjavar is asking what this product is tied to. The tie is not just what is supposedly put into the basket of goods that bear the name of the asset, but what one can get in return for the asset. If the asset is simply pegged to a NXT-value of assets that themselves have value, then there is no redemption, but only a peg. There is only the expectation that this asset can be sold to someone else who believes that the asset has a value, and that that value derives from the peg.

So what's the better answer to mcjavar's question? The better answer must include a reference to the redemption value of the asset, and not simply the supposed input value of the asset from the supplier's side.

Right now, Chris has leveraged off the supernet brand to promote his websites. Now I cannot see anything substantial apart from sites anyone could make given enough talent and a few hundred dollars.

Instead of building the user base for the current asset, he creates a new one to get more money.

How would supernet get a return for the money it has helped generate for Chris (which he could not raise in a failed ipo before) and how would the people that purchased assets at inflated prices make their money back.

I'm saying this not out of hate or anything like that, but if this venture by Chris turns sour it would help to tarnish the supernet brand which is what I care about.

Concern troll detected... It only takes to 2 seconds to find the keywords.

people have such a loose concept of words like "troll" and "fud"; they have become meaningless

it's good to see people making critical posts. if nobody posted their concerns with projects here, this place would deteriorate into scam city quickly. developers need to be put on the spot more

Amen.
We risk becoming a cult where everyone is afraid to say anything critical, and everyone else is focused on outing the naysayers.
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: September 15, 2014, 03:43:52 AM
Other coins cannot clone the developers. This is important. People who think that the only value of a coin is its code forget that code needs to be maintained, and that other developers will want to build functionality on top of the code. ANC can be the place where people go to find the smartest guys in anonymity, and that is, I think, a way to market ANC when the source code is released. Let's remember that if implementing Zerocoin were all that straightforward, someone else would have done it already. So there really is something special about the development team here, something that, I hope, investors will choose to invest in.

Release of code is not in contest here..... only the timing is.......

Yes, I understand that. I think you missed the larger point about why someone would invest in one coin vs. another. If it's just the source code, then a clone is as good as the original. But my point is that it's not just the source code.

I am not making a case for any particular code release schedule. I am only pointing out that efforts can be made to characterize ANC as more than its code when the code is released.

I tell you another stories about Trolls.

BTCD was sitting crying the death of boolberry in the river at the hands of the trolls, His other lovers nxtty, rootcoin and vericoin were with him trying to cheer him up. Then suddenly a troll's spaceship landed in the roof of supernetwork house. Two trolls stepped out.

Then they walked up to BTCD, their feet making squishy noises against the cold, wet ground. Then they said "Take me to your bathroom!"

BTCD took them back to his place and they locked him out. Then, they screwed nxtty, rootcoin and vericoin and drank his vodka. The trolls visitors had carnal knowledge of his coins companion and imbibed the entirety of his supply of Russian spirits.

Finally they painstakingly dismantled the whole supernetwork house, jubilating and returning to the mother ship with shouts of 'mission accomplished.

They stumbled out to their ship and got onboard with big smile faces. BTCD could see through the tiny window, one was waving goodbye with one finger whilst BTCD, nxtty, rootcoin and vericoin sat down on the ruins of supernetwork crying.

This story tell you what Trolls are like, they just like to destroy, create damage, pain.

Long Live James

You're like my crazy, genius uncle when he gets drunk at the family picnic.
"troll's spaceship," "'Take me to your bathroom!" "they screwed nxtty."
I love your stories!  Smiley

Gals you got scammed hard, my condolences. Here's the cold truth and reality about JL777: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=781323.msg8807178#msg8807178

Jl777 is nothing but a smart ultra scammer taking advantage of you guys' endless greed.

Skinnkavaj is right in everything he posted. Neglect it or get real. See you on the Monero side.
I tire of this troll blabber. If you are so sure it is a scam, just make big bets against SuperNET making top10 by year end

In your mind this is free money right? So where are all the big bets?
https://www.fairlay.com/predict/registered/new/supernet-in-top-10-of-coinmarketcap/
https://www.fairlay.com/predict/registered/new/supernet-in-top-5-of-coinmarketcap-before-2016/

Talk is cheap. If you are so convinced you are right, put your money where you mouth is. Otherwise, kindly leave.

James

This is silly. If you're scamming everyone and will eventually run away with thousands of BTC, putting up a few as a bet against you being a scammer is hardly convincing.

I'm not saying you necessarily are, but this is not adding you any points.

Reposting this:

Is the post ICO buywall going to be at the original price or at the 15% increase? I suggest at the original price if you're not looking for an immediate dump.

James isn't creating those bets, Fairlay is. James is merely reporting that if someone thinks this whole thing is a scam, they can place a bet against him/it.

y'all are leaving out all the hot steamy romance.

Exactly! The SuperNET romance.

Episode 2: See what happens when BTCD comes home with a virus. Will BBR catch it? Will she stay?
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: September 13, 2014, 04:53:43 PM
Just FYI, I have brought my JLTRADINGCOIN trading token, which was the first actual trading token on ClearingHouse, to CounterParty due to bugs constantly encountered on the ClearingHouse platform.
Essentially, I was unable to sell JLTRADINGCOIN's to BCT members' buy orders and had a PM inbox full of "I'm unable to purchase your coin due to errors" messages.

Anyhow, I'm hoping the CounterParty platform does better!

JL

We're glad you're here.
I'm just curious: why did you go with ClearningHouse initially, and not Counterparty?
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET - ICO conducted by BTER + ... on: September 13, 2014, 04:42:01 PM
Also, now as like to give example of how I interpretate Supernetwork, BTCD flirted with BBR and the become boyfriend and girlfriend and decided to live in the same house ( supernetwork), now BTCD is a flirted cowboy and continue flirting with other coins leaving his BBR girlfriend backhome unattended that's why is not growing much more now, as BBR needs a failthfull boyfriend,  BTDC is a womaniser and as soon it touch another coin that coin get excited and grow only till randy BTCD find another coin and so on, sorry I know its not a good example but that's my feeling, a coin will get a peak only at the beginning and then will stabilise without further big growth.

Analogies help me understand the high tech stuff, too.

I love this story SO MUCH!!!   Smiley
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET - ICO conducted by BTER + ... on: September 12, 2014, 08:12:49 PM
Words are important. One word that keeps coming up is "access." Users of SuperNET will have access to the features of other coins, and access to a fiat gateway. Developers and users of these coins will have access to a much bigger, more diverse market. (See the recent posts by Este Nuno, valarmg, and torshammer, who each use precise language to describe SuperNET.)

One word that comes up on the criticism of SuperNET is "control," but this is in error. James is not seeking and will not have control over any of the internal workings of these coins (except for BTCD, for which he became core developer prior to SuperNET). These coins will not be granted control over any of the interoperabilities enabled by SuperNET. Advertisers will not be granted any control over the functionalities or appearances of any aspect of SuperNET.

Bter is allowing trading under the official price  Smiley

Who is selling and why? Aren't those prices lower than today's best sale price?
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET - ICO conducted by BTER + ... on: September 06, 2014, 11:34:10 PM
I know that most people here are pretty lazy when it comes to calculating prices. So here is a quick overview to show how elastic the NXT price really is!

Good job, Twin.

Can we get this on the front page?

Yes, this is helpful. Thank you. Though it's just a snapshot at one point in today's price with the discount, it might be confusing to those who do not calculate or understand the price fluctuations. Post once per day would at least give them a rough idea of the day's prices with discount.

Many will demand that I document all this ahead of time, but that is not how my mind works. I am at heart a simple C programmer. So, I only am seeing the next thing to do that improves things. Then that makes me see another improvement, etc.

So this is organic improvement or something like that. It is not for everybody, so please make sure you are accepting of my method. Many call me crazy, doing too many things, but I cannot help that I have more than one idea per week

It should be resolved within 24h. Don't worry guys. Fractastical (Joel) of SWARM is reliable and knows what he's doing. He reported the bug to Counterwallet devs when he noticed it, and they are cooperating on fixing it. He took the time to write it out comprehensively and screenshot everything that was wrong. Nobody is throwing anyone under the bus, and there is nothing 'mysterious' going on. With software that is constantly being developed, sometimes bugs appear. Just give it a day or so.

It was rapidly resolved. I don't think this is a big deal. These things come up in the course of many projects and people just need to be patient since software is complex and technical issues can take a bit of time to resolve sometimes.

Yep. Got my SWARMs. Thanks, Joel!

I recall reading that TOKENs bought on the Nxt AE should NOT be transferred to Bter, as this would make it impossible to credit the proper owner with the UNITY coins at exchange time. Can anyone confirm this, or am I misremembering?

Edit:
Ah, good timing. I just saw this on the other thread. It looks like you have to keep your TOKEN on whichever exchange you buy it.
