61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Fedoracoin - The Community is Taking Over [GIVEAWAY] on: January 15, 2014, 05:11:24 PM
So regarding the website, should I begin to throw some mockups together or anything? Or should we wait until we have a solid group of people to put our heads together and figure out exactly what we want/need to do?

The guy that made the website is still active on IRC, maybe you should start with him.

I'd love to get involved in the strategy of the web design and branding, in the mean time I have been promoting TIPS on twitter and will continue to. Follow on Twitter @FedoraCoins

Nice Twitter feed, but you need to get some more followers.

I suggest you check out Twitter feeds for altcoin-related topics (or those of other altcoins) and follow the people that follow them.
I know that sounds a bit spammy, but it's the only (free/effective) way to target people that are potentially interested.

Once you've done that and you have a decent amount, do a giveaway on Twitter for retweets so the first x people that retweet a certain tweet get a TIPS reward.
That way, you can reach the network of your network.

Don't be so quick to disregard us Smiley

We've had some other projects sneak time away from w/ last week, but after this week we should be able to devote more and more time to making it the best payment platform yet.
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / w/ Fedoracoin: Now accepting merchant sign ups on: January 13, 2014, 09:42:11 PM
w/ Fedoracoin, the first and only dedicated payment processor for Fedoracoin (TIPS) is now open for merchant/developer signup.

If you don't know w/, check out http://pay.withfedoraco.in/ for more information.
We believe that TIPS is a coin that can truly bind a community.
But for it to be useful, there needs to be a payment processor, and that's where we come in.

Developers and merchants can now sign up to get access to their dashboard.
From there they can check out the documentation and see development progress.

Are you a developer/merchant looking to accept TIPS?
Go to http://dashboard.withfedoraco.in/ to get started.
We'd love to hear from you at contact-us@pay.withfedoraco.in

We are now open to developer registration!

Please go to http://dashboard.withfedoraco.in/ to register your developer account.
Once you do that, you can start reading our documentation and see development progress.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
Don't forget to check out http://pay.withfedoraco.in/ to find out what this is all about.

So it has been a couple days and still no word from invisible, has anyone heard from this guy? Like w/ Fedoracoin says you can contact him but he never responds, never posts about fedoracoin, does he still have any plans for this coin at all past the payment system?

I think he's on a holiday.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [TIPS] FedoraCoin - Euphoria - Enlightenment - Intelligence on: January 08, 2014, 10:23:00 PM
I have emailed him, I didn't get a shout back.  But no matter. I just wanted to confirm that TIPS had a heartbeat.

The bottom line is that this coin has some potential and it clearly has great support around here. Some people, like myself, actually purchased TIPS and I'd like to see it work out. I'm relieved to hear that there's active development behind this coin.  Any sense that tech support is gone will kill the price-- I think we've seen that.

Which is why we all need to stay calm for a bit Smiley.

(partly a reply to the other thread where you asked if we were planning on releasing client versions)

The edit we made to Fedoracoin was not interesting for end-users, just for people running services.
If it ever comes to that, we'd be prepared to release new versions of the client, but I don't see a need for that at this moment.

Everything is fine for now, but be assured that there are developers enough that care about this coin to help out when needed.

it seems to me that you either know the developer, have the ability to contact the developer or maybe YOU ARE the developer.

I've personally spoken to him a lot over IRC, but I wouldn't say I know him.
We all have the ability to contact the developer - his email address is all around.
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Payment platform for Fedoracoin coming on: January 08, 2014, 12:50:24 PM
You're putting all this work into this payment system for a coin that has no development support.  It looks like (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=391192.180 ) the developer started this thread on 12/30 but has since vanished.

We've spoken with the developer on numerous occasions.
While we haven't seen him around lately, we've began adding some features we were missing to our own fork of fedoracoin.

I don't see why it would be relevant that the dev is no longer active.
We're a team of developers, we support this coin.

Small update for those interested in w/ but not following  the main thread: we're almost done with the developer dashboard and we will be accepting developers soon.
After that, we'll incrementally roll out features of the platform and their respective docs.

If you'd like to show your support of w/, you can do that  by visiting the site.
We check the number of hits daily and if we see a lot of people are interested, our morale goes up and we'll work harder!
Bumping threads is also a good way to show that you're interested of course!

So, having them "mining" is not really about mining at all, it's about engaging them in the network and making them a user.

Wouldn't a faucet accomplish this more efficiently?
I'd be hard to actually get shares in with that hashrate.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Payment platform for Fedoracoin coming on: January 06, 2014, 10:24:45 PM
How's the payment platform coming on? Does it work well?

Development is currently on-going.

is there any reason why this coin could be unsuccessful?

what a great contribution. do you accept any donations?

We'll post an address soon

I envision a TIPS wallet within Facebook. Could we also allow the app to mine?  That would be awesome. Obviously, that would bring so many more people in to using TIPS.

Allowing everyday people to participate in the mining process is key to achieving actual utilization. If people could do this through Facebook, a mobile app or an easy to use client it would be huge!  Ultimately, the focus needs to be on the user.

It may be too late to integrate these things into this coin.

JavaScript mining would be terribly ineffective, probably below 1kh/s
A TIPS wallet within Facebook would be possible, we might pick this up as a next project.

Sneak preview of the developer dashboard!

Crossposted from https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=395995.0, that thread isn't very alive.
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Payment platform for Fedoracoin coming on: January 05, 2014, 03:24:31 PM
Would it be possible to integrate this in to a Facebook app?  The major hurdle for cryptos is to actually be used as a currency rather than a  speculative commodity. Introducing TIPS as a form of currency within the Facebook community could be effective.

No problem, we have lots of experience with Facebook apps.
What did you have in mind?

80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Payment platform for Fedoracoin coming on: January 05, 2014, 09:08:31 AM
will this be only for fedoracoin and if so what would the benefit of this service be over say coinpayments.net?

For now, yes.

I didn't know that site, but they don't support TIPS.
Other than that, we plan on making the payment process a bit more developer and end-user friendly.

Right now, we have the following APIs planned:

  • Simple REST API; you request the transaction and get an address which you can show to your users, we will ping your callback when it's done and you can poll for changes
  • JS client flow; you load our JS library and start a transaction, a modal window shows up that handles the payment and will call a JS callback when done, then you use the REST API to confirm
  • Simple client flow; you redirect users to our site, they complete te transaction there, we redirect them back, you confirm using the REST API

The first is obviously the most work to implement, but also the most versatile.
The second gives a superior user experience with a known and trusted UI right from your website. It will use websocket to our API to listen for updates.
The third option is the easiest to implement: just point your users to our URL and we'll handle everything. This is the method that for instance PayPal and iDeal use.
