mint pal is a good exchange. you should work with their API to put the exchange valu in the digibyte android wallet Smiley
i think it will encrease the popularity becose some people are doubt in this coin Smiley
i know that you still work a lot. but it would be great to see the value on smart phone Smiley

I was not aware mintpal had an api, I was looking for it yesterday but missed it. I'll work on updating the exchange feature to use mintpal, thanks for pointing that out!!
coinmarket.io has a ticker api as well

So people have been "testing" out the the new re-target system and it is working great! Hash has jumped from 500 mh to 2000 and back down. Difficulty adjusted as it should.
Been watching.

Is it just me, or there some perverse gratification in watching the hash rate jump through the roof, and then imagining the DigiMan skillfully blocking Tongue

Feel just like a shield block when the difficulty jumps and blocks the hash lol.
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] Custom MP Code ✈ DigiShield v2.0 Mandatory Update ✔ on: February 28, 2014, 09:34:15 PM
Especially considering there are literally hundreds of altcoins now, some of which have fairly similar specs to DGB.  The one thing that sets Digibyte apart in my mind, and is what made me invest in it in the first place, is the dedication and apparent intelligence of the Dev team.  Most of these coins seem to be made by and for retards, with their only goal to succesfully pump and dump a premine.  Obviously this isn't the case with DGB, but we need more projects to help the coin gain visibility.
This is exactly the point that needs to be spread. What we can do as individual community members, is try to grow the community. Every person we bring in, every comment in this thread, every reddit subscriber, every merchant like martins that begins to accept DigiByte - this is how we grow the currency. And we achieve that by making it known that DigiByte at least deserves a look because it has a competent and professional development team, and no shenanigans are in place. The funny part is, the fact that the coin is nearing 2 months old and no one has been scammed and the dev is even more vocal then on Day 1 - I mean this is a damned special case! Most altcoins that don't perform well as trading fodder, those that don't explode in price are abandoned and dead within a couple weeks. This community does talk about price yes, but I think unlike most altcoins people are mostly concerned about the future and whether or not they should continue to mine/hold their DigiByte stash. Not everybody that is concerned with price is planning on dumping ASAP.
So - if we want to succeed we need to grow, there is no other way around it. We especially need more merchants like martins, and we only get them by casting out our nets. There needs to be a marketing push both by the community and devs for a weekend so we can make it known that DigiByte is not like the rest, and here's why. The main sticking point we face, I believe, is this nonsense about the premine. Now, I personally scratch my head when people say DigiByte had an unreasonably large premine - because I see 0.25% being held whereas tons of popular coins that are trending have had 1, 2, 3, even 5% or more premine with IPOs and all this other garbage. I really am confused on how DigiByte has gotten lumped into this bad "premine crowd". I think DigiByte has one of the more sensible and realistic uses of a relatively small premine. I do agree with some detractors that the initial giveaway phase wasn't handled the best it could be, and perhaps half of the premine could've been used better - but wow, what other coin has open discussion about such a thing? NONE! By then the dev has cut and run, because most premines ARE get-rich-quick for the devs. This clearly isn't, at the absolute worst you can criticize the devs for selfishly trying to secure an income off of DigiByte's success - but my god, who doesn't get paid for a job? And even further, in order to get a nice paycheck from his reserved funds, he's gonna have to work his absolute ass off for years.
The held premine is worthless if the coin doesn't succeed. Even if he wanted to dump now it's not that much money. Even if he dumps at 200 satoshi, which he won't - it's still considerably less than he could make in salary doing even freelance development. There is no window for this man to dump into life-changing money until the coin has succeeded enough that his dump would be a momentary hiccup in the market. There is a very important reality check here some vocal critics need to piece together. Why would Mr. Tate cash out after 3 or 4 months and take home at best a year's salary? If I were a dev this competent and now had this sort of crypto experience, if I was looking to get rich I would just launch another coin that was built to make me rich, and the community would eat it up for a week or two just like all the rest. The fact that Mr. Tate hasn't disappeared, is so vocal, has shown his actual face (or so we're lead to believe ;P) - how much more proof do you need that he isn't planning to screw everybody over? There are much better ways to scam BTC, and trust me, this man has the skillset if he was so inclined. DigiByte just isn't a good get-rich candidate for this dev, plain and simple. Even the most stringent of skeptics should be able to settle on this conclusion. If Mr. Tate wanted to scam, he could. Instead, he's hoping to be rewarded for a lot of hard work. I personally am ok with this.
We have to find some way to settle this premine bullshit once and for all when it comes to DigiByte, because it does not belong in the same grouping as other premine coins. Premine isn't inherently bad, and I think aside from some minor criticisms about the initial giveaways, this is one of the shining examples of exactly how to do a premine correctly and to the benefit of the community and currency. How do we overcome this stigma? We need to figure out a way to address these criticisms once and for all, and we need to then push that message outward beyond our usual hideouts. We need to show people why DigiByte deserves some attention. We have a great name, great branding/logo, a transparent dev we know by name, the most evolved anti-multipool code in the altcoin market, and a wildly active and positive community. If we can push this message with competent answers to some of the popular criticisms, I believe DigiByte can see some nice growth very soon. But it depends on us to spread the word.
I personally would be happy to devote some time to joining an official PR push run by some of DGB team, if creativecuriosity would like to do something like this.
Very inspirational an indepth analysis.
I am also willing to join the collective organized effort.
Love it!  The community is really strong, and lets keep generating more ideas.  No limit to what this coin can do.
+1
Also, why don't we as a community agree upon a cause for us to start a donation for? The dev can hold the wallet for donations and once we meet the goal of XXX DGB, we can donate that to the cause we agreed upon from the start!
I think this will definitely gain attention!

A well spoken argument.
We won't count how many times I have "bump"d this thread to the top of the sub-forum Smiley
Of coarse, I agree Smiley

Launching a successful coin is not cheep. Why should we work 12-16 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week for nothing?

I'm sure. And I like the coin and how you are trying to be different. I push the coin as professional. AND PERSONALLY, I am fine with this particular coins pre-mine.

HOWEVER, you do have to recognize that

A. premine has become a negative term in the community.

B. coins can launch without a premine and be very successful, very fast.. even more so today now premine is not palatable to many people.

C. cryptsy is less likely to add a coin with a major premine.

I get coins have to make money, perhaps VC Cash would be a better idea, than premine.
and yeah i get many of the non premine coins are all copy paste jobs.. but they are trading better, and have more miners and are doing better.

Pretty much every single coin without a premine, released AFTER digibytes is doing better ATM. Of course new coins depend on this limited community while long term efforts depend more on the normal world.

I'm just saying there are legit concerns and issues with all premined coins, that being said yall are the most transparent on the issue thus far.

A well explained, thoughtful comment from an old hat in the community.  +1 Much appreciated.

There is no "pretty sure", it's both copyrighted and trademarked
On the other hand...Getting sued by the hollywood mafia is all the rage these days. All the cool kids are doing it. Could bring some publicity...hahaha

I'm thinking the upcoming Warner Bros movie, "The DigiMan" is more than enough incentive to play by the rules Smiley

Awesome!  Though, when these images are designed please note where the assets came from. This one seems to be from a stock photo site.  Also, since we are dealing with open source and such, if all of the assets are your own, a comment releasing the art into the public domain is important in case anyone wants to use it.  Might be hard to track anyone down who knows when down the road Tongue

Great shield though, very cool/prettty Grin

anyone knows whats going on with coinmarket.io?? I hope they didnt run away like mtgox ??
Sad
i dont like coinmarket.io theyr going down every time a coin listed by them got a pomp in other exchange, it's like being ddosed or something fishy to me...
I don't want to eat my words, but it is easy to forget that coinmarket.io is still extremely new and working out issues.  I have a lot of respect for coinmarket.io, as if I remember correctly they were the first to list DGB.  Further, they have consistently and quickly met all of my deposits and withdrawals.  They have been down a bit here or there, but they always seem to come back online.

I wouldn't worry too much, but then again in crypto you never know.  Just thought I would share my personal opinion of coinmarket.io.  They seem to me to be a strong competitor for some of the larger exchanges, as the framework behind the site seems to be humming along extremely efficiently.

Please to meet you Jared Smiley

Same here, pleased to meet you Jared Smiley

The pleasure is mine! Smiley

I look forward to getting to know everyone much better in the coming weeks and months! Thanks again for all your support!
hi nice to meet you.  i am new to crypto and when i was looking for a coin to invest in i was looking for one that had a good community and active devs and i decided on this one i have been buying quite a few and holding them with hope that later they will pay off.  i am not very good with computers files and things so with this new wallett should i send my coins to the exchange then just get a new wallet then send them back? is that ok to do? i have quite a few invested and would hate to lose them over something i am not sure how to do. thanks for any help you can give.

If you click "File -> Back-Up Wallet..." and save the wallet.dat file some wheres safe you should be fine.  Just make sure you have that wallet.dat file saved to a safe location, and as long as you have that wallet.dat you could screw up just about anything, and someone could help you set it straight.  The key is to make sure you have the wallet backed up.
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] A Professional Cryptocurrency ✈ Android Wallet, CoinedUp ✔ on: February 22, 2014, 07:43:44 AM
Would be nice if you could let everyone know a definite time when the update will be released, you have missed 2 time slots so far.
We apologize, we are getting closer.

We have ran through some very in depth tests. We have proved the KMG is not all it is cracked up to be. We have been up working on it for 14 hours now today so it will be tomorrow morning as it is approaching 2 AM here. We would much rather have a delayed update than a failed one.

I've fiddled with the wallet before, and if I understand correctly your simulating hash increases and decreases...  That has got to be miserable, lol.  You get to experience how it feels to have a multi-pool spike the difficulty over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again........

Good luck with that, lol.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] A Professional Cryptocurrency ✈ Android Wallet, CoinedUp ✔ on: February 22, 2014, 03:31:50 AM
We wanted to give another update to let you know that we are testing and comparing the Kimoto Gravity Well implementation against our own custom re-target code. We wanted to make sure we release the best possible solution for the current multi-pool problem. As no one has been able to give us a technical description of KMG, nor can we find much reading material on it we are testing exactly how it performs under load with DigiByte code.
We have recompiled and tested about thirty different code configurations over the past few days. We are timing re-targets and averaging them out over several hours. We are also simulating up to a 40 fold instant hash increase or decrease. We want to find the best possible solution that will serve DigiByte many years into the future.
We apologize for the delays, but we would rather do things right the first time then have to re-fork and re-update a few weeks or months later.
Slow and right is definitely better than fast and fail Tongue

Much agreed.

Was hoping for that difficulty adjustment to come in a bit earlier. Multipools are really messing with the difficulty now

I believe the code is planned to be released today.  Lots of last minute testing to be sure everything is perfect last thing I heard Smiley
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Premines and why they are bad on: February 20, 2014, 07:00:51 PM
BCX you always make me laugh.. you come out of no where LOLOL

i don't think a coin should be made if it requires a premine.. if you can't afford to release one fairly then don't do it.
why do a scammy premine and make excuses for it ? maybe leave the currency creation to people more qualified ?

and no i don't trust that DigiByte guy why the hell should i ? and that is a major issue with premines.. do you trust the preminer ? should you ?
plenty of warning bells went off for me on that guys coin.. such as he has devs implying he is not one of them.. so who is he then ? pitch man ?

as i'm writing this i see the last guy is saying the same thing lol

always justifying bad behavior i see around this scene..
and i have loose morals myself and i don't have a problem with people wanting to bend the rules.
what bothers me is all the endless lies, games and deceitful bullshit these two faced scammers pull.
it would be different if a coin releaser said hey.. you know what ? i premined it because i want some money for myself.
that would be waaaay easier to choke down than the usual scammy pricks roaming around crypto playing dumb about it.

Come now, Spoetnik.

BitcoinTate, a.k.a. Digibyte Dev is not a bad person - I have talked with him at some length.
I understand completely some of your arguments and why you would be skeptical, but you are being a bit unfair in your criticisms of the DigiByte team.  I suppose, skepticism is always preferable to blind trust.  However, let a team's actions speak to their character.

Whether you are interested in looking deeper or not, is up to you; but with even a brief look at DigiByte you should see quite a difference from the classic pre-mine scam your exposing in this thread.

Who pre-mines as a scam and then publishes, right on the announcement thread, a spreadsheet of all expenditures from the pre-mine account?  And please, don't argue that the 'ledger could be fake'.  Last I checked, the blockchain was public.

I applaud you for this thread, as insta-mining and pre-mining has been a scourge on the community.  It is not fair, however, to call scam when you haven't even taken the time to research or get to know the team in this particular case.  These people have invested hours and hours supporting and promoting crypto-currency and developing DigiByte.  They have quite assuredly done more for crypto (the reason we are all here) then either you or me.

If you don't believe, don't participate.  Although, I think everyone over in the DigiByte thread would much enjoy your company and constructive input.

But don't claim to have knowledge you don't - that is called ignorance my friend.

That said, keep preaching the skepticism, that is a healthy and helpful pursuit!
Please just don't target a group of people that don't deserve the negative lime-light as everything I have seen, heard, and come to know about their intentions in entirely well-intentioned.

well i appreciate you having some balls and replying to me (even if your name might mean your a girl lol)
in all honesty i would have probably been nicer had i thought you would actually take the time to reply back Ahahaa
Look around this forum section is full of shadowy anon cowards that pull dumb stunts and hide and ignore etc
- If this is not your first coin you need to be honest and up front about what other coins and forum account you have used.
- If you use a pre-mine it has to be reasonably small and it should have some sort of ledger etc.
- If you make a coin it should offer something new.. it does not need to me a risky experimental change
i could think of endless things off the top of my head with no effort what so ever.. so having a clone is bad and there is no excuse for it.
further more your road map of goals mentions nothing useful.. such as improving the coin itself.. and no the other ones are not "good enough".
copying something and saying what i copied is good enough is a pretty weak reason to do it lol
Want some ideas for coin improvements ? how about working on the Windows QT etc ? why not add auto-updating or at least notifications ?
Should i go on ? i could for days on end.. quite simply its crystal clear no one is looking at improving anything.. it's a copy and paste job.. like 90% of them all.
And your a "professional" who came along and seen this coin spamming going on and figured you could do better ?
although i am not sure i buy it.. you may be just a front pitch man/women as many other coins have.. or the coin was paid for and cloned by request etc
Although i give ya an edge on most of these scam coins at least your still trying to move forward since release day and ya your changes sound reasonable.
At least it *looks like your trying to make a currency and not just some half ass attempt at a scammy joke ponzi scheme to pump and dump.
So your handling things pretty good and your coin does not look that bad and i don't have too much to bitch about lol
If you being honest.. if you are i want to make sure i support people *trying
I have 8500 coins from mining for 24 hrs and i am just going to leave them in my wallet and i don't know if i will try mining again either
for me i am finding a ton of coins including this one is making me the same amount of money :/
Rather than wishing "you get hit by a bus" i will say "good luck with your coin"

Thank you for the cool-headed response Smiley

As far as I know, this is the lead Dev's (Forum Name: BitcoinTate) only coin.  He has said as much, and I certainly don't remember ever seeing his name on the Dev list of another.  That said, there definitely are a lot of anonymous people on this forum; and of coarse some have multiple accounts.  After our conversations, I think I know enough about the lead Dev I could track the poor guy down if I wanted to, lol.  Not that it would be necessary, as I believe he intends to release his LinkedIn profile quite soon.  If you wanted to talk to him in person, you could always go to the Crypto Conference in April, as he intends to speak there as well on behalf of DigiByte.

Purely out of curiosity, how much pre-mine would you consider too much?  DigiByte included a 0.5% pre-mine (much less than some of the 2%+ coins) of which half has been publicly disbursed with a ledger Smiley  It isn't ideal, but I think it was reasonably well done.  There is always room for improvement of coarse Grin

Concerning development and updates, don't forget that the coin is still a toddler, lol.  In just handful of weeks, the Dev team has already added QR code support directly into the wallet, developed a smoothly operating Android wallet on GooglePlay, further improved the website, launched a fledgling forum, and will be improving the difficulty re-target in the next week.  In my talks with them, there are certainly a host of other things they intend to improve - alas, time is limited.

I am not a front-woman, however, I suppose in a way I could be considered one.  I have been mining and running a DigiByte pool since before the launch of the coin.  I have enjoyed the community and certainly have a vested interest, as all miners do, in the coin doing well.  Not a shill account or anything though Grin

I just genuinely enjoy the company of the people involved in developing, promoting, mining, and using this coin.
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] A Professional Cryptocurrency ✈ Android Wallet, CoinedUp ✔ on: February 18, 2014, 09:05:34 AM
After running through several equations with the options we listed it appears that a block reward reduction of about 0.5% every week is the sweet spot. Actual numbers varied from .3% - .5%. We think 0.5% will be much easier to explain to people for marketing purposes.

0.4 % is about 20 years time.

This is a 26% reduction every year.

+1 Good Good.

Hope retargeting time will be done at the same time or even before.

The nearly immediate difficulty re-set is definitely part of this release; so no worries Cheesy

Hello Spoetnik, and welcome to the thread!

First, I am sorry you have gotten a poor first-impression of Digibyte!  Let us take a look at some of the things you've mentioned.

The Pre-Mine:
Pre-mine is a very sensitive subject.  This is understandable.  In the past, there have been some extremely unfortunate abuses that have soured the community's opinion of pre-mine, and rightfully so!  The pre-mine on this coin began at 0.5%.  Any pre-mine is suspect, however in my opinion, this is a reasonable amount.  It is worth considering that this coin is a very large distribution coin, thus the numbers are indeed large.  Of this 0.5% pre-mine, half of it (0.25%) of it has already been disbursed in giveaways and bounties to the community.  You can review the transaction records of this account as it has been publicly posted to be transparent.

The other 0.25% exists in the development account.  These funds have not been spent or dumped at market; despite the fact that at one point in time the development portion of the pre-mine was worth over 136,000 USD if you consider BTC at roughly $650.  I speak with the development team quite regularly and in my honest opinion there is no intention to do anything of this sort.

Cloned Coin:
Does this coin add anything experimental to crypto?  No.  I don't believe this is such a terrible thing.  The specifications work fast, confirmations happen very quickly, the distribution is large enough to accommodate widespread use, the brand is endearing as opposed to meme-ish or inappropriate.

Changed Reward:
Please take a moment to read the block reward changes thoroughly.  At the original two-year halving mark, the block reward will be essential be exactly the same.  The primary change was to increment this change in reward out over many smaller changes, as opposed to one large reward change at the two year mark.  The actual amount of the reward decrement still equals halving at two-years, but takes place in 0.5% increments.  In addition, the total money supply(M) does not change.  Are changes to the coin, post launch, distasteful?  Yes.  I believe the concern was that stability is part of users and merchants expect.  Large changes in reward(read inflation) do not lend themselves well to stability.

These are just a few things I would ask you to consider before judging this coin.  I know the development team personally, and can assure you that they are not the ill-intentioned people you seem to have heard somewhere.  I do, however, understand you reluctance - this is a very shady and unsure community in such turbulent times.  Skepticism is preferable to blind trust.

Yours Truly,
Samantha.
