I don't like the idea about fractional investing. There will be huge swings when some whale plays. Many people woud lie about their actual balances and anything based on lie will go bust sooner or later. If some whale wins large amounts, many of investors go bust and you won't have much of them left. And as was already mentioned, this is another way how you can cheat and take money from investors.

Yea that's to weed out all the idiot investors. After the dumb ones leave the smart people will have a larger % of site bankroll provided so we make big bucks and you make nothing.

The thing is that everyone will be doing it sooner or later, at least for 50% or so. There's not much of a chancefor bankroll to lose that much, isn't it?. If you give people chance to cheat they will do it and eventually everyone will be doing it for not to lose his share on profit. The same happened in the world economy before the financial crisis; everyone was doing risky business in order to survive in the tough competition and at the end everyone was impacted with the consequences. This is not good for investors in general and it is just another way how Dooglus can cheat on investors actually. I hoped that I will never see such things in bitcoin economy but here we go, the greed is too big :-)

I think you're misunderstanding the proposal.  It's not lying in the context of this to enter a local balance that you either don't have or don't plan to invest.  It's entirely valid -and not cheating - to use that figure to control your personal exposure.  Local balance is just a notional balance that you want to be considered, without obligation, as having when determining your exposure to action.

The rest of your concern IS valid - that it could end up pressurising people into increasing their risk exposure to keep up with others.  But that's something investors have to decide for themselves - it isn't (and shouldn't be) a major concern for dooglus (it's a gambling site - so its whole purpose is to allow people to do risky/-EV things with their BTC).

Road to hell is paved with good intentions  Wink

66  Economy / Securities / Re: Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive Resurrected on [BTC-TC] on: July 19, 2013, 08:45:36 PM
quick comparison between bASIC and Cognitive:

bASIC mining - 51625 outstanding shares -
Total hashrate: 925 Gh/s now
Hashrate/share: 180 Mh/s now
Price: 0.73BTC

Cognitive - 10420 outstanding shares
Total hashrate: 393 Gh/s now, 813 Gh/s when BFL delivers.
Hashrate/share: 377 Mh/s now, 780 Mh/s later.
Price: 0.75BTC

What did I miss?

After (or if ever) BFL delivers Cognitive shares will be further dilluted by COG.F conversion. I think you should add 2000 additional shares to current number, if my calculation s correct.

Please note that due to my vacation in Spain, the payout and buy back of the S.DICE shares will not happen until the 28th.
I am sorry for this but I do not have my gpg key and such on my laptop they are on a dedicated computer of which I currently do not have access to.
Best Regards
DeaDTerra

When you pay out, are you going to pay out 100% or 95% of the buyback price?

Thanks!

IMHO should pay 100%; it's not a dividend and 5% from the whole asset value is a bit too much, that's like maybe dividends sum for 2 years.

Final congrats to dooglus for all the charts Smiley
SatoshiDice is being sold, in full, to a new company that will take over all ownership, operations, and management.

Charts may continue. I'm quite curious how the S.DICE will perform in comparison to JD.

As IPO investor I'm glad for this happy ending, though I planned to hold the shares for much longer. It was a nice ride. Thanks Eric and good luck in your future endeavors.

71  Economy / Securities / Re: Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive Resurrected on [BTC-TC] on: July 17, 2013, 04:59:42 PM
why are people buying this for .91BTC. It's not profitable even with 960gh/s now which we don't have. That's 92Mh/s per .91BTC share.
I really liked this asset and have been holding it since GLBSE times, but had to sell now, cause this price is just too high :-) Garett is doing a great job for Cognitive and I hope all well for his investors. Good luck!

If Doog would charge investors for his own mistake, they would flee. We've already seen 12k divested because some investors lost confidence in having their money there. For Doog is best to have a lot of investors money and good reputation. Some investors here in this thread just propose the contrary for their own benefit to have a bigger share of the bankroll.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: July 11, 2013, 03:37:20 PM
From another thread:

Can you please explain how do you calculate the ROI per year of just-dice?

Look at the volume of bets.  Multiply that by 1% (house edge).  That gives the EXPECTED profit (which is what we have to work with).  Now divide that by the time-period in which it occurred - to give a profit/day.  Then divide it by the total capital invested there to give an ROI.

Yes, excepted values. I was asking about historical ones, if anyone have invested and could give some figures Sad

I'm invested like for 2 weeks and got 6.5%. But the site is up more than it should statistically be. It's more than 2% up in respect to the amount wagered. The amount of invested increased since I got in from 10k to 36k and my share therefore dropped to less than 1/3 of the original share.
74  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: July 10, 2013, 04:27:28 AM
How come you made 70% percent loss on S.DICE. Did you not buy at IPO prices? I have like 80% percent back on dividends + I did some day trading with S.DICE shares, but if you bought at IPO you should have like 50% back on dividends (I'm too lazy to search for exact numbers though, so anyone correct me, if I'm wrong).
75  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: July 07, 2013, 05:51:19 AM
does just-dice has any impact on S.DICE betting volume yet? Looks like JD volume and frequency rises much quicker, at least at this time, when there are just a few bets per minute in S.DICE and it looks pretty dead.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: July 06, 2013, 04:42:29 AM
Dooglus is getting some money from advertising on the website as well. And if initial coding is done than he will have less work on the website and can work on something else while profit will be coming from JD. JD is on track to become very profitable for him, it's better than S.DICE and will attract more players and investors over time. So, there's no point of raising commision at this time.
77  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: June 17, 2013, 04:14:33 PM
The poorly thought out MPEX contract is already revealing its problems.

100 % of profits are paid to shareholders. Absolutely zero room for reinvestment. Basic probability theory says it's guaranteed SD will exhaust its pool eventually. What then? Who bails it out? On what terms?

The likelihood of this happening rises enormously with raised limits or lower house edge. A competitor can come along with deep pockets and improve either of those.

Worst it would seem this contract straitjacket cannot be changed. How then can SD compete and survive?

Quite unfortunate. There should have been made room for the "representatives" to decide monthly on potentially reinvesting up to say 10% of earnings. I suspect hubris is what prevented such a common sense clause from being written, along with the other issues like lack of transparent balance sheet.

Erik is not allowed to sell more than 50% of company shares. So it is in his best interest to make it profitable. On the other hand, his latests moves point out that he wants to leave S.DICE or that something bad is going to happen. Anytime a lawyer is involved in a bitcoin world this happens.
78  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: June 12, 2013, 05:16:40 PM
Wait a moment... I thought the money from the initial shares sold went to the pool?

That money went to Eric directly, which is basically the same. But he will say otherwise  Shocked Next step will be taking dividends in exchange for company assets (servers, website, know-how ...)  Wink
79  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: June 12, 2013, 05:08:29 PM
Quick announcement - This month is progressing well with site performance. I am going to take this opportunity to have SD retain up to 4k in earnings for June at the end of the month. This means that dividends on earnings up to 4k won't be paid for June (ie - if the site earns 5k, then dividends will be paid on only 1k of earnings).

Before you yell and scream, let me explain the purpose.

Currently I have, personally, provided an ongoing interest-free loan of roughly 6100 btc to SD that is used by SD as its betting pool. This is money that is at risk of hacks and losses, but I've permitted SD to use it because it needed a capital pool. The risk to me was tolerable when Bitcoin was $10-12 each. Now, however, that's a ton of money, and I would like to withdraw the loan.

Thus, earnings for this month (June) will be retained by SD for the purpose of replacing this pool. The pool needs to be roughly 3-4k btc, so the site is on track to earn this amount this month. It's thus a perfect time to do the swap.

Note that because these earnings are retained and owned by SD, if and when they are ever paid out or released from SD, they will go to all shareholders. Thus the betting pool held by SD will from now on be an asset of SD instead of a liability owed to me.  Therefore MPEX holders will, after June, own 13% of the betting pool fund assets. If the site is ever closed down, sold, etc, these funds would be liquidated out to shareholders.

Hopefully that's not too confusing. Please let me know if you have questions about it.

Kind regards,
-Erik

Not only is it incredibly poor form to make such announcements unilaterally, whether the proposed measure is ever implemented or not, it'd seem on the surface that what you are contemplating is plainly in breach of your contract with MPEx.

+1, this wasn't anywhere in the contract. If you want to squeeze more money out of S.DICE then sell your shares. You already introduced several very questionable monthly expenses and now you want to steal further dividends and throw more risk on investors' shoulders. You already got paid very well and you should stick by S.DICE and make it better, not to flee sinking ship like a rat.

Butterfly labs officially announced shipping... prepare for the bullrun!!

or not...

Coming of ASICs means just one ... selling pressure. People invested a lot into ASIC hardware and they need to cover the costs. The question is if there's still enough buyers to keep the price at these levels after all the news bitcoin-mania ended. We are in the bear market now. The price may slowly go downwards throughout the whole 2013 like it did after 2011 crash.
