A defective or cheap power supply has an 80% chance of destroying everything in your computer.

Newegg's got a few 5830's left @ $130 - Great for Mining!

Dont these make about 0.18 BTC (@ 300 mhz) per 24 hours now - at just todays difficulty level? (without factoring electricity)
Isnt it a false economy buying hardware these days for mining?
Would be grateful of some ROI calculations Smiley

Each card will pay for half itself(at $0.20/kwh) within 30 days. If the bitcoin market fails within that 30 days, you can get a refund and still keep your $60 profit.

A bat file is a macro, it's can't do anything past what command line can do.

If you get caught, it would be considered theft of resources such as electricity and you could get fired.

Got one, raising my 900Mh/s to 1.2 Gh/s. These cards are very reliable and fast.

The network lost 5 terahashes. Does anyone know the negative consequences of a big power loss like that?

I hope you made a backup of your wallet. If you didn't and it's indeed gone, you will never get it back and there is nothing you can do about it. Search your computer for wallet.dat.

You can get larger hashrates by not using crossfire.
71  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Masterpiece(3x HD 5830, aircooled, 800mhash) on: July 06, 2011, 05:42:20 AM
Good.

Not great, but good.

Now, if you want to design a greatest masterpeace, try 4 x 6990 with Ultra x4 1600W PSU, OC'd, all aircooled in a 8x extension case with 2 x 200mm fans hacked to work on 24V DC adapter.

That's the one I am working on atm

I hope to post pics when ready

Can't wait to see that monster  Shocked

It looks like I can also fit another HD 5830 in the case to give a solid 1.2GH/s.
73  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Masterpiece(3x HD 5830, aircooled, 800mhash) on: July 05, 2011, 12:15:17 PM
Ok, I overclocked it to 1010Mhz and set all fanspeeds to 65%. Temps are now hovering around 70c. However, after 5 minutes of running, it crashed. I will probably need to up voltage. I estimate that I can achieve aircooled 1GH/s with 80% fanspeed. This Antec 1200 moves tons of air. Kill-a-watt measured 555 watts at 900MH/s.

All cards are tightly packed together with no extensions inside an Antec 1200. A scythe 135cfm fan is blowing directly onto the video cards. I'd also like to mention that it's also quiet, you can place it in another room without hearing it in the next.

I know I can overclock these to get 1GH by shoving fanspeeds up higher, but how much higher can they run before wearing down the fans?

Seriously, an upper limit should have been placed so that it's less likely to stop.

So bitless, how far are you in Computer Science?
79  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 3% faster mining with phoenix+phatk for everyone on: June 27, 2011, 04:14:06 AM
The more efficient you make miners, the higher the difficulty rises.
