io coin seems to take ixcoin source, make a couple line tweaks and release it. I think nasakioto might be working on ixcoin, don't know as the ixcoin.org site is down and he has not posted here in two weeks. He might be mining before the announcement or just given up.
I'm still around. Just having some server issues with ixcoin.org but it should be back up soon. I'd prefer to go the merged mining route like namecoin with Bitcoin as the primary chain. I still need to look into this in further detail. If someone else has the time inclination and wants to port merged mining to the current ixcoin client, I would be happy to award 5K IXC from the 10K coding bounty. |

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I'm going to look into merged mining for Ixcoin then as I don't see anyway to counter 51% attacks without a a-la-Solidcoin centralized approach.

Yeah, I'd say get the time travel exploit fixed first before even thinking about merged mining.
Would a fix for the time travel issue be sufficient to reassure DoubleC into reinstating his IXcoin bitparking exchange? |

It is not either/or. You have to fix the exploit regardless of whether you do merged mining.
I've seen the "fix" (sorry, no link handy) but am left wondering, Why not update difficulty continuously? Pseudocode:
Interesting idea. I think the key issue (for Ixcoin and maybe other altcoins) is to get a substantial number of miners mining the chain to prevent 51% attacks & co. Maybe a continuous difficulty adjustments could help to motivate miners but we'd need more proof of concept before going with this. |

Thanks for that. It would require a chain split but seems easy enough. If we'd be doing a chain split for this fix, we might as well look into merged mining too. Twobit suggested https://ixcoin.org/forum/index.php?topic=141.0 we use the MultiCoin client as the basis for Ixcoin. I'm not familiar with it yet, but apparently it supports merged mining and other altcoins already. If it keep sup with the main Bitcoin 0.4 updates then this could be a good option for Ixcoin. It would mean all supported altcoins could benefit from the same code updates. |

I don't care about merged mining, but why not if easy. What I would really like to see is all mining stop after block 50,000 to create the worlds 1st deflationary currency.
If we stop mining rewards without a large ecosystem of paid Ixcoin transactions, then there will be no incentive to mine. There is a danger if a large merged mining pool say 100 Gh decides to drop ixcoin, you might be wait 6 months to get 144 blocks.
Possible, but I don't see a trivial way to prevent this. |

It appears mining on the Ixcoin blockchain has reduced significantly so I was wondering whether we should switch to merged mining like Namecoin. The hope is that more people would mine the Ixcoin chain to make it more secure. Any thoughts/advice/code/reservations appreciated.

We're going to release the 0.4 version of the client Ixcoin soon (to follow Bitcoin's release) and keep promoting ixcoins to vendors/exchanges.
We're also considering having a parallel beta client that integrates experimental features (such as the many pull requests for the Bitcoin client), but still promote the main distro as the main stable ixcoin client. The current dev bounty is applicable here if anyone is interested.

So my question is, come block 20055, will we see an immediate difficulty drop? Or will we have to wait 24hrs for the new algorithm to evaluate block velocity first?
A new difficulty adjustment algorithm will activate on block 20055. The current block count is 19968 so we should hit this count in about ~2 weeks. After that, difficulty retargets every 144 blocks (i.e. every 24 hours) with max increments of 10% and max decrements at 400% (like Solidcoin). The aim is to achieve a much more consistent block rate. (commit) (commit2) You will have to wait until 144 blocks occur, so ~3weeks give or take. I thought it's using the same difficulty algo as Solidcoin though, where if there weren't 144 block solves by the 24hr mark, difficulty would retarget automatically. The new difficulty algo will reduce the speed at block 20130 by 4x. After that, it'll continue readjusting every 144 blocks. If it does take longer than 24 hours to mine the next 144 blocks, it'll decrease the difficulty (and vice versa). By the way, block 20027 on 0.3.24.2 is now propagating. |

I'm still seeing 115+ Ixcoin clients on Freenode's #ixcoin channel and only ~47 on LFNet #ixcoinxx channels, so I'm guessing they still haven't switched over. Once these switch over to the new client, the block count will increment more rapidly.

It'll go down organically by /4 at first, then readjust every 24 hours / 144 blocks. So depending on the mining load, it should go down fast at first then slowly climb back up.
