Seems a bit stupid if you send out a phishing email, with no phishing link in it  Roll Eyes  Huh

That's because it's not a phishing email.
62  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] FULL MEMBER on: May 26, 2015, 11:22:33 AM
Are you trolling me, i want to buy an account from him thats all, let me keep it as my business with him, no need to poke your nose inside.

No, not trolling. There's no need to post publicly that you PMd someone either but didn't stop you doing it. Maybe just best wait for him to reply to you via PM.
63  Other / Meta / Re: how do i speak to a monitor about my account on: May 26, 2015, 11:19:41 AM
A moderator? Just PM one or ask over in Meta (and this thread should be over there - you can move it yourself at the bottom left I think).
64  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] FULL MEMBER on: May 26, 2015, 11:12:29 AM
PM sent.

I never understand why people post stuff like this. It's utterly redundant. I see it on Facebook all the time too. Literally no need to post publicly that you've PMd someone as they'll get your message (and if it'd to do with sigspam then you wont get paid the post on bitmixer because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements so what the point?).

The reason can be to warn OP. Sometimes people starts a thread buying/selling sth. Then they get some pms but dont return senders even if they are online. So the purpose maybe publicly notify or warn.

Yeah, I have send him a PM and did not get any reply. I commented to give him a notification, if he does not see or missed my PM.

He only started the thread an hour before you posted and it was the last post he made today. People need to be given time to respond but private messages are usually the first thing they see when they log on and respond to so I could only understand your logic if it had been days and no response even though he'd been online or posting.
65  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Why are there no legitimate HYIPs? on: May 26, 2015, 11:08:35 AM
Every single business following the HYIP model has turned out to be a ponzi scam.

Why are there no legitimate money trees? They're scams because they're scams. Nothing is sustainable forever and even good businessman will eventually lose money or have a failed investment. If someone was really good at their job investing they would just keep doing it themselves, but when people ask for others money that's when you know there's something up.
66  Other / Meta / Re: [2015-05-25] Is Joshua Zipkin Responsible for the Bitcointalk Hack? on: May 26, 2015, 11:05:11 AM
I wouldn't trust anything CryptoCoinNews puts out. They're a bunch of amateurs and will post anything just to get some hits to their crappy site. The hack was probably just done by an opportunist who found a hole and attacked though I'd like to see evidence or find out the ultimate reasoning behind the attacks. .

Betteridge's law of headlines

Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no." It is named after Ian Betteridge, a British technology journalist.

Haha.

40-years-to-life in prison will be his sentence. They will make an example out of him.

Probably, especially since this is the first of its kind. I think he'll get between 20-40 years. He'll appeal but if he's lucky he may even get a retrial because of all the shenanigans that went on with the corruption of the law enforcement officers.
68  Other / Off-topic / Re: Who said that English is Easy :? :P on: May 26, 2015, 10:56:38 AM
That image is stupid.

English is one of the easiest languages in the world.

Says who? I only speak one language but of those people I know who speak more than one they say English is very difficult. It's probably very hard to gauge what is the most difficult language though, especially if you don't speak at least several.

I don'tunderstand why peoeple doesn't enter the  email in profile , it was specially designed for these cases , if you haven't inserted your mail , do not complain about the timing

Some people dont because they do not want to be spammed with newsletter every 3 days or so. This happened quite alot if you are entering your email for subscription then be prepare to get your mailbox full of newsletter .
Although Stunna has given his words on that the email will be solely use for account restoration, some people still tend to avoid providing their email since email is considered as a sensitive stuff to be known as well

If that's a consideration (sensitive info) then you can always create a mail address just for that site.

Creating multiple email addresses is a wise idea, especially if they're used for bitcoin related sites. If you use one that's one consolidated point of attack and if it's compromised then you're screwed. Imagine if you used the same email for this forum, blockchain.info and PrimeDice (amongst others). You could easily have all your accounts cleaned out and lose your forum account here as well which can be worth a bit of money too.
71  Other / Meta / Re: Influx of Hacked Accounts on: May 26, 2015, 09:25:28 AM
This is silly and a waste of time. I don't think Theymos intends to do the right thing and change all passwords to have sufficient entropy until they are reset by email, so I am going to walk away from my account and close my email previously associated with the account. The trolling and the hack was merely the straw that broke the camels back... this forum has been going downhill for a while.

Goodbye bitcointalk.

Well, I thought theymos should disallow users to change email for a certain period of time.

That's no good for people who want to change them since they've been exposed. All those people who created fake email accounts could get socially engineered themselves so its vital people need to be able to change them.

When will this forum enable Google 2FA? I suppose this will help relieve some worries even certain users may have used relatively weak passwords.

Probably have to wait for the new forum. If it was going to be implemented it likely would have been already.
72  Other / Meta / Re: Received email from account NOT associated with bitcointalk on: May 26, 2015, 09:19:32 AM
I got the same one. Doesn't worry me too much who sent it, since there's no links....

That makes no sense, did they (perhaps) forget to insert the phishing links?

Hes probably just talking about the genuine email theymos sent out about the hack.
73  Other / Meta / Re: Not receiving PM notification emails since yesterday on: May 26, 2015, 09:16:24 AM
The email system here has always only worked occasionally for me. Theymos just mentioned that isps might have started blocking mails since he sent a load out to everyone to reset their passwords. You should probably consider changing your email or at least making sure its protected since its been exposed now, though.
74  Other / Meta / Re: The server hack of May 2015 and it's effects on *YOUR* accounts on: May 26, 2015, 09:12:46 AM
Who takes responsibility IF someone faces monetary losses because of THIS incident ?

No one, just like every other hack.

The person responsible is the hacker and they should be held accountable, but the forum as well as any other site shouldn't be expected or relied upon to keep your info invincible or 100% safe because things like this can always happen. It's also the user's responsibility to make sure all their other accounts are safe and if your other accounts get hacked because of the leak then thats your fault for having poor security practices. The only thing you wouldn't be responsible for is your forum account getting potentially hacked but if you've changed your details then all should be fine.
75  Other / Meta / Re: About the recent server compromise on: May 26, 2015, 08:53:45 AM
The NSA hacked the forum to link users' information (nicknames, emails, IP's, passwords) with illegal activity made elsewhere..  Roll Eyes

Why would they need to hack the forum when the NSA likely has access to all this info already?

have a strong feeling they inserted a backdoor somewhere or a keylogger.

something that would keep them getting access to the forum and retrieve data

I'm sure theymos checked for this kind of stuff or would have noticed if this had of happened. Probably why the forum was down for so long.
76  Other / New forum software / Re: [MEGA-Q&A] The Forum Software, NodeBB, Cloudflare, +18 - Those Kind of Questions on: May 26, 2015, 08:48:46 AM
Hello!

I am very concerened about the forum and if compared to other forums, this looks quite old-school these are my Questions:

1) Can we use NodeBB (Modded for AltCoin Symbols)
2) Why spend $ 1.5 Million United States Dollars when you could get open source software, afterall A Simple Machine Forum is Open-Source
3) Why there is no reputation system?
4) Why are accounts > 3 Years old but never used and is only "Brand New", "Newbie", "Jr. Member" Not Deleted
5) Why is this $ 1.5 Million USD System Open-Source
6) Can Anyone Develop a Logo for this forum?
7) Can Anyone Use CloudFlare Paid DDoS System?
8 ) Could BitCoinTalk be Held on Multiple Servers and have Mirrors?
9) Why exactly would you spend $ 1.5 Million and when will the new forum come out?
10) Could you please you 2FA Authentication?
11) Please Ban +18 Stuff!
12) What is the Square Root of Infinitum Divided by 0.

P.S. 1) I can setup a NodeBB System with the Forum Imported & I can use temporary free CloudFlare!

Also! Please don't be angry about me ranting about the $ 1.5 Million!

2) Think they wanted one specifically tailored to their needs and simple machines is pretty dated with lots of issues
3)? Pretty sure the rep system that is used here will be transferred over
4) Why should they be? Someone might use them in the future
6) Sure. Go ahead. Not sure if they'll use it but someone might.
9) When its ready. It's being tested so problems can be minimized
10) 2-factor is coming.
11) Lol. Why would they ban 18+ stuff? This isn't a forum for kids.
77  Other / Meta / Re: Disable Account in the Forum on: May 26, 2015, 08:44:24 AM
I can understand why someone would want to delete their account and in some cases they may really need to for whatever reason, but if it was allowed it could easily be abused so it will probably cause more problems than its worth.

Me too, want it gone or username changed

Who do I need to email hourly to get this done.

Afaik, only theymos has the power to change a username, but he rarely does it because there is no need. If you really want to change your username  so bad, you can donate 50btc and be a donator, and choose username you desire. Wink

And BadBear I believe.

Me too, want it gone or username changed

Who do I need to email hourly to get this done.

I have an admin account here now, PM me your desired username and I will change it for you.

Never trust anything from GOX.

Especially not a hacked account that suspiciously gets reanimated after the hack  Grin
78  Other / Meta / Re: The server hack of May 2015 and it's effects on *YOUR* accounts on: May 26, 2015, 08:40:11 AM
Hopefully people can learn from this and take it as a kick up the ass to make sure people protect themselves as much as possible and not rely on others to keep your personal data 100% safe. I think its absolutely essential that people don't re-use passwords and I'd recommend using a different email here compared to all your other things. If the hackers have your email then its already vulnerable and exposed. If you used it to sign up to other bitcoin related sites like exchanges or web wallets than that could definitely be a problem. I'm sure problems will start arising soon from the leaked data but hopefully this can be kept to a minimum and if people change all their exposed info they should be good (but we know not everyone will).
79  Other / Meta / Re: Are these attacks preventable? on: May 26, 2015, 08:33:18 AM
It's impossible to protect yourself 100% and there's always weaknesses and vulnerabilities and things that can be cleverly bypassed. Even 2-factor isn't foolproof. A hacker could call your mobile phone provider if he got enough details and convince them that your phone was stolen or whatnot and to block the phone and send a new sim to his address or something. Similar things have happened before. You can also reset things like google auth so nothing is ever watertight its just about minimizing risk and keeping yourself protected as much as you can.
80  Other / Off-topic / Re: TV Series Recommendations... on: May 26, 2015, 08:27:49 AM
The Flash and ofcourse, the walking dead and game of thrones.

I can handle Arrow, but The Flash is too cheesy for me.   I thought it was also cheesy when they brought the Flash into Arrow this last week

Agreed, but I think most of these new Superhero TV shows they're doing are cheesy. The Flash, Daredevil, Superwoman or girl or whatever it is etc. I'm sure there's more. Seems people love cheesy superheros.
