61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bringing decentralization back to the Bitcoin network. on: January 21, 2012, 12:27:08 PM
I switched to ABCPool because of their no fee at the time which they have since raised to a whopping 4%. Since the 4% fee their reliability has taken a dump and I have lost a lot of mining productivity due to this.

One DDoS and their reliability "takes a dump"? Every single pool* is vulnerable to a DDoS and all the large ones have been attacked and taken down for hours or days at a time. ABCpool has a good track record of reliability and low stales. A whopping 4%? They are the cheapest PPS pool available right now. Deepbit charges 10%.

* All conventional centralized pools
62  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [499 GH] ABCPool PPS - you should join now! <0.1% invalids & immediate payouts! on: January 18, 2012, 04:29:28 PM
They seem to be back up.

So a 4% fee does not include DDOS mitigation?

A 500Gh pool with a 4% fee equals 20Gh of mining power for abcpool.co not to mention other donations.

At an average of $5 / BTC, that's around 16 coins a day for a total of $80. Over 30 days, that's $2400.

Seems like abcpool.co is making enough $$$ to mitigate the attack.

Why aren't you doing this for your loyal customers when you say you have the most reliable pool?

This is an obvious weak link in your reliability.

It's an obvious weak link in every pool's reliability. Not even deepbit will stop a DDoS and they are a much bigger pool with a ton more money pouring in (%3 fee, 3500 ghps, ≈$15,000 per month). How about BTC Guild or Slush? They choke within minutes of an attack and will stay down at the discretion of the attacker. It's not realistic to demand expensive protection from pool operators for these attacks. BTC guild was literally blackmailed to keep a botnet on their server. When eleuthria finally banned him the pool was taken down within hours and didn't come back for days.

It's a very frustrating time for abcpool. I know they're working around the clock to mitigate the attack and it completely sucks to see your hard work get taken down like this.

Three more have been purchased. Only three remain. Already have some interest, so they won't last much longer.

I don't really care about efficiency, as a kWh here is about 0.02$.

What do you live?

Buyers also take note, only Yubikeys issued by MtGox will work there - these won't. However, these are still full of win - I have a whole keychain of them =D
My favorite use for them is with LastPass. Works great.

That's a good point. I never understood why Mt. Gox did that. They have a seperate configuration for logging in and withdrawing funds. I don't know how splitting them up makes it any safer and I don't know why they couldn't just go with a generic yubikey.

I also use it with lastpass. It's great.

Will you ship internationally?

Sure, I'll just have to figure out the rate. It shouldn't be too much more, they are pretty tiny.
79  Economy / Goods / [Sold] Yuibkey! $15 Shipped on: January 03, 2012, 11:08:07 AM
I bought ten when they were on sale. Still in their original packaging and I've never used them.

What can I do with a Yubikey? I personally use it for lastpass. Couldn't have an easier multi-authentication implementation.
