10 months past October...But I'm finally running two 500GH BFL rigs (1/3 of my total order; still waiting for the rest) on BitMinter with BTCGuild as my backup pool.

YEAH BABY!!!!!
62  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] First 500Gh/s BFL unit up and running! on: July 09, 2013, 08:33:14 PM
giga, have you received eight 500GH units so far?  Do they all actually run ~480GH?
63  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Largest BTC share ever found? on: July 09, 2013, 05:21:25 PM
How does one calculate the difficulty of a hash?  I wasn't able to find anything via Google.  Would love to know!
64  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL SC Pre-Order Information on: July 08, 2013, 09:35:55 PM
My 7/9 order now has a status of "FPGA pending".  Looks like they are moving along.
Always good news to hear. Thanks for updating us!
That means they're waiting for you to return the FPGA for trade-in.  Whether it's actually time to do so is another matter...Depends on your order date.  I have a trade-in order for a few Single SCs from 6/26/12 and am going to ship my FPGAs back today.
65  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why people holding their coins when the price is going down for sure... on: July 04, 2013, 05:40:10 AM
How you can deacresed your BTC by sellig at 85$ and buying back at 75$ ?

Pretty easily when it goes to $90 instead of the expected $75

Want take a bet that we hit 70$ first ? Smiley

I fucking hate your avatar. But I have nothing against the real guy.

Also the number of ignores you seem to have tells me much people agree you're an idiot Smiley

Or maybe they dont want to listen the truth ? Smiley
If anybody ever belonged in the BTC-e trollbox, it's you.  It's more than obvious that you sold and simply wish to spread FUD so others will lose while you buy back lower.

The price will continue to fall for the next 3-6 months as all these shiny new asics come online.  People will want to dump coins in order to recoup their investment.
This makes even less sense now than it did back when the block reward was 50 BTC.  As difficulty adjusts, the number of coins generated will be comparable to what it's been since the end of November (roughly 25 every 10 minutes).  The number of people selling freshly minted coins (a small fraction of overall trading) will also be similar to what it's always been because ever since people started spending money on hardware to mine BTC (ie. near the beginning), they've been dumping coins to recoup their investments.

The only thing pushing the price down is fear and speculation.  Since it's indisputable that a volatile market mixed with speculation and emotion is a formula for even more extreme market fluctuation, it's impossible to be sure what the price of BTC will be tomorrow, nevermind 3-6 months from now.

What is this? A block with 0 work?

243093    2013-06-24 12:16    0m    0    19,339,258    0.0%    0.000    BTC    hellerstern66    119 left

Wondering on that one myself.
I'm also still wondering about this.  How can a block be mined with zero shares submitted to the pool?
67  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~1300Gh] [Private Pool] A few good miners needed on: June 27, 2013, 07:14:06 AM
Any chance you're merged mining (NMC)?  I like the idea of a private pool and I have a significant farm, but the extra coin from NMC is hard to pass up right now...

Merged mining is on the development list but has not made it to the top yet.
Has merged mining NMC made it up the list yet?

Thanks for the kind words Smiley

E-Mail notifications when an active worker has stopped sending work

That's one of the top priority items now. Smiley

Awesome, thanks!

Hi Doc,

Thank you for all you do.  Your pool is the best there is.  I've never mined anywhere else for more than a day except for backups.  One day anywhere else always brings me back here.

I'd like to see if I can possibly bump a feature that's been on your to-do list for a long time.

  • E-Mail notifications when an active worker has stopped sending work

This is one of the few days that I haven't had a chance to glance at my two mini-rigs, and I just realized they have been down the the last 12 shifts (host PC crashed).  I don't want to be pushy, as it's your pool and if I don't like it, I should go elsewhere.  I refuse to do that because this pool is both awesome AND still merged-mines NMC.  If you can't get to this feature any time soon, that's cool and I understand, but I figured it's worth asking.

Thanks again for the greatest pool in the world.
70  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: U.S. residents no more Dwolla + MtGox now what? on: May 17, 2013, 01:46:05 AM
Pretty sure I'll start using CampBX to get USD out when I sell BTC.
71  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox account in the USA has been seized by the DHS? on: May 14, 2013, 10:27:08 PM
I do not really care much about getting dollars from MtGox. But I mainly use MtGox to transfer my government currency to bitcoins. They have been the cheapest, 25 cents for Dwolla plus .5% at MtGox.

Has CoinBase gotten their act together to allow for larger purchases?

Transferring $1 out of MtGox to Dwolla to test this out btw.

The max limit is still 50BTC per day.  It used to be 100BTC before the price rise.

send them to my account. I can withdraw 1000 BTC per day. Grin
It's wonderful not being an americunt. lol

I'm American (F U btw) and my BTC withdrawal limit has been set to 1000 BTC/day since my Gox account was verified 6 months ago.

Ditto.

Guess I might have to look into direct bank transfers for withdrawals in the future.  Any other thoughts for reliable USD withdrawals?
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] RoyalCoin - a new scrypt based coin on: May 09, 2013, 05:44:08 PM
So I tried solo mining these about an hour after the launch and did so for 8 hours.  Tons of rejects, but mostly just new blocks detected on the network.  Didn't get a single block.

Can anybody advise me on appropriate CGMiner settings when solo mining a super low difficulty coin?  I'm guessing that was my problem.

adding these params
Code:
 -s 1 --expiry 1 --queue 0
might help to reduce the rejects.
by setting scantime and expiry to 1 second you avoid working on blocks that are solved already.
Cool, I'll try that next time.  Thank you very much.

Another explanation is that some party is conducting a block withholding attack on the pool.  That is:

They direct hashpower at the pool but modify their mining software to not submit shares with a target value greater than X where X is less than the current difficulty.
The result is that they collect coins without every contributing to the pool.
Such a strategy would be a very viable attack on competing pools.
I can think of several easy mechanisms to address such an attack, but I doubt that any pools do so today.
This is patently false. Please think about what you are saying before you start typing such things.
There is no way to perform a MITM attack or block withholding attack where the miner withholding receives the coins instead of the pool.
I thought Entropy-uc's post was pretty clear, and mentions nothing about a Man-In-The-Middle attack. Let's put it this way:

1) I direct my hashpower at a pool.
2) when my (custom) mining software detects that I have found a block, it does not submit it.
3) when someone else finds a block at the pool, I get paid my share just like all the other miners.

So, I have contributed nothing (and never will), I have performed a 'block withholding attack', and I still get coins. Granted, there is no direct benefit to me by doing this (and even my rewards are lower because of it). But if I point enough hashpower at the pool, it is possible to 'discredit' the pool's rep by imposing what appears to be an ongoing (and perhaps never-ending) run of bad luck because of my block withholding attack.

I'm not suggesting this is what is happening. I merely point out that I don't see anything 'patently false' about Entroy-uc's post.

Thank you.  I don't have any reason to know it is happening either.

But it is a possible attack, there are people with motive to conduct such an attack, and there is enough misfortune appearing for many different pools lately to move my threat indicator from 'coincidence' to 'enemy action'.
Perhaps an analysis should be done on whether any high hash users are finding no blocks for the pool or perhaps far fewer blocks than is statistically likely.

Litecoin in my view is only a liability for bitminter. Also it's the botnet currency of choise : (
...but litecoins and TRC are setup as non-Asic or gpu only
I certainly don't see the problem with LTC support at BitMinter.  I think it's a fantastic idea.  However, I'm afraid TRC is not ASIC proof in the least.  Avalons have already been used for TRC once or twice, causing a lot of complaints among its mining community.  I'm just speaking from my experience listening to traders in the BTC-e trollbox who complained about their incredibly slow confirmations (like 2-3 hours for one) for about a week.  Here's a thread that discusses ASIC being a threat to TRC:

Can you expound a little on this point?

Right, this seems pretty dead on. Try turning off your bitcoind (if you're on 0.8.1 anyway, which by your post I'm assuming that's your problem) when the lag seems pretty bad to see if it goes away like we did. We also realized that this started happening about the same time we upgraded to 0.8.1. Only thing is that your lag stops when you stop mining?

Well, turns out that mining had nothing to do with it...Just a coincidence that led me to believe so.  Closing the 0.8.0 client makes my high latency go away almost instantly.

Thanks so much to Doc and farfie for bringing up this topic.  The high latency was driving me nuts when gaming!
